00:00The relentless rain in Florida just will not quit.
00:03Afternoon and evening storms continue to fire day after day,
00:06with some dumping 2 to 3 inches of rain per hour.
00:08The main concern is obviously flash flooding.
00:11Meanwhile, today marks the climatological peak of the Atlantic hurricane season,
00:14but it's quiet for now.
00:16With ocean temperatures running well above average,
00:19conditions are primed for storm development later this month.
00:23Let's go now to Key Largo, Florida, a great spot typically,
00:27and again, that's the case right now,
00:29but you can see evidence of recent heavy rain on that street there left of center.
00:33Anna, you can see some rainwater and ponding.
00:35Yes, you can.
00:36That is certainly one of the concerns that we've had today.
00:40You can see some sun peeking through with the huffy clouds there in Key Largo.
00:45Now, the rain, it's a break, right?
00:48We're still seeing rounds of rain to talk about,
00:51so let's take a look at radar zooming in here to Florida.
00:55We're really looking at the bird's eye view right now,
00:57and I'll orient us a little bit better here.
01:01Did not zoom into Florida the best there.
01:03Now, you can see there are thunderstorms to talk about.
01:05Let's zoom into exactly where the action is
01:07because it's actually a little bit calmer right now
01:10compared to a couple hours ago, all relatively speaking, right?
01:13So we still have plenty of lightning here to talk about.
01:16I'm going to turn that off because I want to really let you see
01:19where we have the downpours.
01:20Now, it's in some areas that you've had the downpours for a couple hours now,
01:25very slow-moving cells of thunderstorms.
01:28We're really zoomed in here,
01:29but places like Lehigh Acres really seeing the downpours right now,
01:33the reds, the yellows, the oranges.
01:34This is where we especially get concerned about flash flooding.
01:36This is where we get those rainfall rates one, two, three inches an hour.
01:41It's certainly not out of the question here.
01:43Let's zoom back out a little bit, take a look at the bigger picture once again.
01:46This is really the only action to talk about.
01:49We had some issues in Miami earlier with some thunderstorms,
01:52some more calmer showers, not even as much lightning at one point,
01:58but that has moved out.
02:00Miami mostly dry, though you can see,
02:03especially as we put this back into motion here,
02:06if we zoom into Miami a little bit more,
02:08another round of some showers, it's moving its way in,
02:12kind of coming out of the southwest here.
02:14So just know they're kind of fizzling out,
02:16but you could see a few more showers
02:18as we go throughout the rest of the night.
02:19But let's talk big picture once again,
02:21because there are some changes on the way.
02:23I'm sure it's a welcome sight for a lot of you, probably.
02:27Overall, we have drier air that's going to take hold.
02:30Now, the key here, the culprit behind our rain and thunderstorms, right?
02:34I want something to blame when it's been days of thunderstorms.
02:37It's an area of low pressure that right now is stuck in the Gulf
02:39and a stalled out front.
02:41We get some progress with the area of low pressure
02:43moving off to the Atlantic.
02:44The stalled out front, it just kind of becomes not stalled out,
02:48moves south, and then stalls out once again.
02:51So somewhere like Miami, South Florida,
02:53you don't get the break this weekend
02:54that a lot of the rest of the state gets.
02:56Now, as we talk about that stalled out front,
02:58I bring that up not just because it's the culprit here, Jeff,
03:00but because you're eyeing this
03:02for potential tropical development next week.
03:05Yeah, this would be something we have to keep an eye on.
03:06I can kind of draw it out here on the map.
03:08And whenever we have a front stall over parts of the warm water,
03:11the Caribbean, or the Gulf or the western part of the Atlantic,
03:14this time of the year, if it stagnates long enough
03:17and with limited wind shear in place,
03:19we can see something form along it sometimes.
03:21We're probably not going to see this fully organized,
03:23but it's something we have to keep an eye on.
03:25So we're highlighting that as a low likelihood area
03:28for development over the next seven days.
