00:00Big trouble brewing right now.
00:01Yeah, AccuBether meteorologist Tony Laubach joins us from Burlington, Colorado.
00:05This is where he's tracking tonight's severe storm threat.
00:08Tony, tell us about what's happening where you are.
00:13We are pretty much neck deep in severe storms behind me.
00:17This is looking off to the south about 10 miles.
00:19This severe thunderstorm right over the city of Burlington in Interstate 70.
00:24Warned for golf ball sized hail.
00:26So this is going to be a major issue for folks traveling on I-70.
00:29And of course in the town of Burlington.
00:31Over the last few minutes I have heard what I think are tornado sirens off in the distance.
00:35No tornado threat with this particular storm at this time.
00:39Not sure why they're blaring the sirens.
00:41This is a pretty powerful storm with golf ball sized hail though.
00:44So certainly nothing to take lightly right now.
00:46This one of two storms that are severe.
00:49One just off to my north which was the one I've been kind of sitting on for the last 30 minutes.
00:53That one worn for quarter sized hail.
00:54The one down to the south really has blown up over the last 20 minutes or so.
00:59So that's going to be a big threat again as I mentioned to motorists along I-70 both east and westbound.
01:04From Burlington points east into Kansas as well as over toward the Goodland, Kansas area.
01:10Those are going to be the areas right now that I would certainly be weary of you if you are traveling.
01:16We do have a severe thunderstorm watch in effect.
01:18I'll show you that graphic.
01:19This watch pretty much straddles the Colorado, Kansas border right now.
01:23So we're looking at a watch that goes until 9 o'clock p.m.
01:27That's mountain daylight time.
01:29So again kind of along the Kansas-Colorado border for the next I'd say four or five hours here across portions of eastern Colorado and far western Kansas.
01:40That is going to be a threat for large damaging hail.
01:43So we could be looking at up to tennis ball size, maybe a little bit larger, and then damaging wind gusts.
01:48Tornado threat non-zero, but I would say unlikely at least early on.
01:52We are expecting a second round of storms overnight in this region with temperatures a little bit cooler and the low-level jet picking up.
01:59You might see a storm or two that acquires a little bit of rotation.
02:02So maybe a brief tornado threat further along into the evening.
02:05We'll bring you back live here.
02:06You kind of see the rainbow over my shoulder from the storms, the rain shaft that has kind of moved through here.
02:12It has dried up pretty quickly.
02:14You can't really tell where this was all mud when I rolled in here.
02:17The rain has pushed on as this cluster of storms, again, continues to work its way on off to the east.
02:22Behind the storm, again, pretty nice looking sight here.
02:25But again, just to the south in Burlington, Colorado, again, severe thunderstorm warning for golf ball-sized hail.
02:30We're very early in this event, so this is going to be a problem here over the next several hours.
02:34So motorists in the region, eastern Colorado, and that extends all the way south in the Oklahoma Panhandle, eastern Colorado, western Kansas.
02:42Certainly be cautious if you are traveling, particularly along I-70, where that hail could be an issue.
02:48Folks, if you do get stuck in a hail, pull over the side of the road.
02:50Do not park and block overpasses.
02:53You don't want to be under those blocking traffic when these storms roll through.
02:56Great advice there, Tony.
02:58We'll check in with you in about an hour.
02:59Thanks for that update.
