00:01:30Absolutely epic, the most stirring piece of music in sport. Bold, rhythmic, loaded with energy, much like a race around this great track.
00:01:44And the start to that race will be absolutely crucial. Let's head to Kroon at the Skypad to take a look.
00:01:50Let's go back to last year. We had the two McLarens on the front row. Lando Norris on pole on the left. Oscar Piastri alongside him.
00:01:59Now, Lando came across to the right-hand side to cover off the inside, but that gave Oscar a bit of a slipstream.
00:02:05It also allowed Oscar to go on the clean side of the track under braking for the first chicane.
00:02:10Lando did a great job defending on the way in, but had a bit of a snap on the way out.
00:02:15Now, Oscar's in the slipstream here. He's got a great toe coming all the way around the Curva Grande.
00:02:20Lando's fully aware that he's there, covers the inside line. Oscar goes for the outside.
00:02:26If we just slow it down here, you can see Oscar is momentarily in front.
00:02:30And at this point, Lando's in a tricky position because he's aware Oscar's not going to back out of this fight.
00:02:35So he's got to then slow down. There, now, look, he gets a snap of oversteer.
00:02:39That costs him a whole heap of momentum. Piastri now takes the lead.
00:02:44But that snap of oversteer and the lost momentum allows Charles Leclerc and the Ferrari to get a run on Norris and get past into Lesmo 1.
00:02:52So the battle on the opening lap isn't just about the first chicane.
00:02:56We've got to watch out how it goes all the way up to the Lesmos.
00:03:01Absolutely brilliant stuff. How much would Lando like to do that to Max today?
00:03:05Exactly. He can get his revenge after last year.
00:03:07So it'd be interesting to see what they do with the tyres.
00:03:09I think there will be a few people going aggressive to put a soft tyre on to make the most of that lap one in the start.
00:03:14Others will think maybe long game with the medium or the hard.
00:03:17Oscar Piastri looking very cool, calm and collected there.
00:03:20Nothing seems to faze that guy, does it?
00:03:21No, I can confirm that. I just spoke to him.
00:03:24He's just so relaxed, so composed.
00:03:27And that's why he's leading the World Championship.
00:03:29That is his greatest strength.
00:03:31That mental state is phenomenal.
00:03:34It's such a strength.
00:03:35Well, it was Max LeSappen who put it on pole, though.
00:03:37The car was standing right next to right now.
00:03:40Let's hear from him.
00:03:41He's with Rachel.
00:03:42It's a fantastic lap yesterday, and the pace actually looks pretty good in your car.
00:03:47If you get away at the start, can you control this?
00:03:51Friday was all right, yeah.
00:03:54I know, of course, that McLaren normally steps it up in the race compared to qualifying,
00:03:57so that will be a tough battle.
00:03:59But we just need to focus on ourselves, try to do the best we can, keep the tyres alive,
00:04:05and then we'll see where we end up.
00:04:06What would it mean to you and the team to win this one today?
00:04:09I mean, we always want to win.
00:04:10That's always the target.
00:04:12Of course, today, that is our target, but let's see how realistic that is.
00:04:16Go.
00:04:19Okay, well, the crowd expects.
00:04:21What can they look forward to in this race, Jamie?
00:04:24Will we be able to see a result from one of their drivers?
00:04:27Kimi Antonelli, obviously, an Italian driver, doesn't drive for Ferrari,
00:04:31but they'd love to see a great result from him, wouldn't they?
00:04:33Exactly.
00:04:33Never say never.
00:04:34I mean, this place is always going to conjure up something special,
00:04:37and we've seen that in so many years gone past, so never say never.
00:04:40There's extra energy they're going to have here, so hopefully they can use that.
00:04:44And Nico, Gabriel Bortaleso there starting a career-best seventh for Salva,
00:04:49and it's testament to the trajectory of this team
00:04:52that he was actually a little bit disappointed with that qualifying yesterday.
00:04:55Yeah, ever since Mattia Binotto joined that team,
00:04:59it's been on an upward trajectory.
00:05:00I think he brought a couple of secrets along there, maybe.
00:05:04So that's really positive to see and reassuring for next year when Audi is coming in.
00:05:08I wonder what they're doing there with Lando's on.
00:05:10Uh, mouthwash, actually.
00:05:12It's like mental mouthwash.
00:05:13It gives your sensation or your body the sensation of feeling cold.
00:05:16It's very weird, but if it tricks your brain into feeling cooler, then it works.
00:05:20So I used to put Tiger Balm on my whole body,
00:05:22but it's pretty extreme because you're, like, actually shivering.
00:05:25It's so cold, although it's, like, roasting hot.
00:05:27But I guess it's a good technique.
00:05:29Wow, you drivers are interesting characters, aren't you?
00:05:32Okay, on the way next, we have got the Italian Grand Prix.

00:06:58So, Max is on pole, the 45th of his career.
00:07:02Lando is alongside him on the front row.
00:07:05The championship leader, Oscar Piastri, in third.
00:07:07The scene is set.
00:07:09A drama of daring and a crescendo of courage.
00:07:12It's time now for the Italian Grand Prix.
00:07:15Ah!
00:07:16Ah!
00:07:22As you're driving into the track,
00:07:24on the one hand, you're feeling this atmosphere,
00:07:26the history of this racetrack,
00:07:28and that it's such a huge day ahead.
00:07:31You'll see a sea of red Ferrari fans.
00:07:35As soon as they see you driving by,
00:07:37they start knocking on the windows
00:07:38and you're really trying to focus.
00:07:40You try to switch off everything, all the distractions.
00:07:45Monza is so fast.
00:07:48And it's so challenging.
00:07:50Bumps, big braking,
00:07:52hitting those curbs in the chicane, fast corners.
00:07:54It is an incredible challenge.
00:07:56Being a Ferrari driver and racing in Monza
00:07:59is loaded with responsibility
00:08:02because you feel that you're racing for the entire country.
00:08:09I'm so grateful that I got to experience
00:08:11what it's like to win here in this historic place
00:08:14and to stand on that podium,
00:08:15which is one of the most spectacular podiums of the whole year.
00:08:20The person who gets to stand on the top step
00:08:22should really just take in all that history
00:08:26even if you're not in Ferrari.
00:08:34It's just an incredible moment.
00:08:36It's just an incredible moment.
00:08:56It's a pleasure.
00:09:07It's a pleasure.
00:09:09Welcome, everybody, then, to the Italian Grand Prix here at Monza,
00:09:36the track that staged more Grand Prix in the history of the World Championship than any
00:09:40other circuit. This is the 75th Italian Grand Prix in that World Championship to take place
00:09:46here in the Royal Park, in which is the 75th year of the Formula One title parade. Here's
00:09:53the 3.6 miles, and glorious it is, too. Top speeds with DRS in qualifying of 230 miles
00:10:00an hour. Two DRS soaks to help overtaking. In the last two years here, we've had five different
00:10:05leaders and five lead changes, and none of the previous five pole-sitters have gone on
00:10:11to win here at Monza. The tyres today, the soft, might be a bit too soft, but if you fancy an
00:10:17aggressive start, the C5 is one for you. C4, the medium tyre, the favourite race tyre, and
00:10:22C3, the hard tyre, which will come into play. And it's a glorious day here, too. Track temperature,
00:10:2744 degrees, the air temperature hovering around 27 degrees. The sun has been out, and it's baking our
00:10:35starting grid. There are 18 cars on it, because two start from the pit lane. Pierre Gasly's got a new
00:10:40power unit, as has Isaac Hadja, who was out in Q1 for the first time in his career. In the last three
00:10:46races before this, the racing balls had all reached Q3, but they were both out in Q1. Lawson, 18th, and he's
00:10:52alongside Conor Pinto in 17th. Lance Stroll starts 16th. 11 Q1 knockouts for him this season. Esteban
00:10:59Ocon down in 15th, where he started last year. Two Williams drivers side-by-side and level at 8-all
00:11:04in the inter-team qualifying battle, Albon and Sainz. Hülkenberg starts 12th, his highest start since
00:11:10Canada. Oli Behrmann starts 11th, and he's equaled his half battle with Esteban Ocon at 8-all as well.
00:11:16Lewis Hamilton starts 10th with a five-place grid penalty. He's alongside Yuki Tsunoda. Top 10 here for
00:11:22the first time ever. Fernando Alonso starts 8th, his highest start here in three years, and he's
00:11:26alongside Gabriel Bortoletto from his management stable. It's the two Mercedes level on the third
00:11:32row of the grid. Antonelli, his highest start since Canada, alongside George Russell, his fifth.
00:11:37Charles Leclerc won here from fourth last year. He's got the championship leader Oscar Piastri alongside
00:11:41him, and the front row is the same as it was in Miami. It's Lando Norris who starts second, and Max
00:11:48Verstappen, with the fastest lap ever to take pole yesterday. It was a magnificent effort from Max
00:11:54Verstappen, and the thing is, Martin Brundle, when you walk around the paddock, nobody will be surprised
00:11:59if he can't go on and win the race as well. He's certainly got some pace in the longer runs on
00:12:04Friday, too. Ferrari has decided not to do anything different for Lewis Hamilton down in 10. So the top
00:12:1013 start on the medium compound tyre. That's the sort of rational one-stopper medium-hard compound.
00:12:17Only one driver out there in 18th, Liam Lawson, on the soft compound tyre. So pretty much a consensus
00:12:25then in the front of the grid as we look at the world championship leader calmly waiting for the next
00:12:32part of this process. They get pretty used to it these days. It's the fourth longest run down to
00:12:37the first corner, but it's very tight when you get down there, and your rear tyres are quite warm
00:12:43because they've transmitted 1,000 horsepower all the way down there. Your front tyre's less so. You've
00:12:48got full tanks of fuel, and you've got to pick a braking point. Brake too early, somebody will run
00:12:53into you. Brake too late, you'll run into somebody else. You've got to get that absolutely right. You don't
00:12:58want to square off your tyres before you've even got round the first corner. So it's always a tense
00:13:03moment for the drivers and the pit wall. Max Verstappen then on that pole position. He has won
00:13:09here twice before from the front row in 2023 and from grid spot number seven in 2022 when his red ball
00:13:16with a new power unit just sliced through the field. And a lot of Ferrari fans hoping here that Lewis Hamilton
00:13:22and Charles Leclerc can slice through the field today. A podium would be good enough is what I'm
00:13:27being told by the Tifosi. We shall see if they can go and do that. And Charles Leclerc winning from
00:13:33fourth on the grid last year has given them a bit of hope that history could repeat itself as we tick
00:13:38towards our formation lap. It's three o'clock here in Monza. We welcome viewers on Sky Sports' main
00:13:47events to the Italian Grand Prix where McLaren go into this race with a 324 point lead in the
00:13:53Constructors' Championship. They could seal that next time out in Baku and it's a 34 point lead for
00:13:59Oscar Piastri in the Drivers' Championship which will go on a few races longer. Medium tyres for most of
00:14:05the starting grid. It should be a one-stop strategy but let's see if the safety car comes into play
00:14:11on a track where if you do tangle there's gravel waiting to catch you out, Martin.
00:14:15But down in the first corner there's a couple of get-out-of-jail-free cards. It depends how far
00:14:21you get round the corner. You can go straight on and zigzag through the polystyrene bollards and then
00:14:26you've got to work out how to feed back in where you would have been had you basically not have
00:14:32overtaken a lot of people by outbreaking yourself. Or if you get into the first corner you can bump
00:14:37across the inside the apex of turn two. But that seems to carry a lot of penalty and can damage the
00:14:43underneath the car. Max wants a very hot formation lap doesn't he? He's really stretching the
00:14:49fielder and getting on with it. Tribute there to Giorgio Armani who passed away on Thursday, aged 91.
00:14:55He sponsored the Ferrari team. He was very close with Charles Leclerc as well and a collaboration and a
00:15:02friendship too. Charles saying he was an exceptional person and an honour to get the chance to meet and work with him.
00:15:08And his passing very much felt here in Milan country. It's Ferrari country but it's the two papayas who are leading that championship battle.
00:15:19What's... Lando Norris, nothing to lose, has to go for it. He's ahead of his teammate and if it finishes second and third I don't suppose Oscar Piastri will be too upset by that.
00:15:29Yeah, but at the same time Lando doesn't need, you know, take the front corner off or front wing off. He's still very much in the championship although it's become somewhat more difficult since last weekend.
00:15:41What Lando Norris does need is a slipstream down to the first corner somehow. So he'll be trying to duck in whether Max comes his way or Lando goes Max's way. If he can he'll be desperate to try not to be punching hole in the air for everybody on the right hand side of the grid.
00:15:58And that is very bad news for Nico Hulkenberg before we even get going. Down at Sauber they're telling him to peel off into the pit lane to retire the car. So I would imagine a mechanical issue for Nico Hulkenberg who's got power at the very least.
00:16:16Have you got Jonathan Wheatley yet on the... Oh man, are you serious?
00:16:22Well Jonathan Wheatley is our friendly pit boss for the weekend. We'll get him on as soon as we can.
00:16:26Exactly, yeah. So we'll find out directly from the Sauber pit wall as to what the problem is. But that, my goodness, sometimes the car lets you down on the formation lap.
00:16:36But to actually get a radio call to park what appears to you to be a relatively healthy car, those two going in the pit lane are obliged to do that because they're pit lane starters.
00:16:46First time Nico Hulkenberg has had a retirement in 2025. It's officially a did not start because he didn't take the lights to start this and he's never had a retirement here at Monza either.
00:16:57So that leaves us 17 cars on the grid. Two starting from the pit lane. Verstappen and Norris on the front row, Piastri and Leclerc behind them on row two.
00:17:07And it's a 476 metre charge down towards the first chicane, the Italian Grand Prix in 2025.
00:17:17It's lights out and away we go. Verstappen then leads them away. Here comes Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri getting a slipstream behind Verstappen.
00:17:26And then Charles Leclerc as Norris gets onto the grass and manages to keep it under control. Into that first chicane we go.
00:17:32And backs Verstappen, goes wide, goes off the runoff area, retains the lead. Charles Leclerc gets ahead of Oscar Piastri.
00:17:40Just having all that to give that place back. I think he'll do that in the least pain he can get away with.
00:17:45And look at the Ferrari of Leclerc right in the slipstream as well. So Max, I believe that he kept or maintained position by going off the track.
00:17:54We'll see it again. But at the moment he is not feeling the need to yield that.
00:17:58Charles Leclerc on the charge. Almost went right into the back there of Lando Norris.
00:18:01But round the outside goes Oscar Piastri. That was bold and brave. And that's got his third place back again.
00:18:07Wow. Not preserving his championship lead. He's going all out of aggression there to win that place back.
00:18:13Yeah, what's this idiot doing? Come on. He's put me in the grass and he's just got the course.
00:18:20And the concern about that is any aerodynamic damage but also grass and that in your radiator duct.
00:18:26These cars are only cooled by passing through the air.
00:18:29Kimi Antonelli's had a bad start. He's down at a tenth. Hamilton is up to ninth.
00:18:34Tsunoda eighth. Alonso seventh and Bortoletto sixth. Race controls no to that incident.
00:18:39Between Verstappen and Norris. Verstappen's been told to give back the position.
00:18:44Where's he going to do that? As he crosses the line ahead then of Lando Norris.
00:18:48Piastri ahead of Charles Leclerc. That's where the position is then given back.
00:18:52Lando Norris now leads the Italian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc is getting involved once again.
00:18:57Down the inside goes Oscar Piastri. Charles Leclerc. Brilliant switcheroo down at that chicane.
00:19:03And I think he's going to get past Oscar Piastri. What a baffle these two have given us.
00:19:07Through the curva grande. The Ferrari's up to third place.
00:19:10Superb driving all around. Piastri taking some gambles it must be said.
00:19:14And trying to go down the outside again. Max let that position go in just the right place.
00:19:19So that they could squabble behind him. And he maintained second. So DRS will now be enabled.
00:19:27And the Stewart's happy. No further investigation for Max Verstappen. Strong is now down into 19th place.
00:19:33And Lando Norris is charging away. Piastri still on the tail of Charles Leclerc. George Russell's on the tail of Piastri.
00:19:40Now let me clarify that. There's no further investigation. Because he's given the place back.
00:19:44Not because they think he didn't do anything wrong. And then Verstappen has just given the place up unnecessarily.
00:19:51And Leclerc's all over the place on the braking. Had to avoid him.
00:19:55And I think that was going into the second chicane. Where Oscar had to back out a little bit.
00:19:59Almost lost a bit of front wing end plate. And he's going to pick up a really good slipstream.
00:20:03Going down the main straight here. If he can hang on to the Ferrari. Through the Parabolica.
00:20:08Which he seems to be doing quite well. Out in front. 7 tenths a gap between Norris and Verstappen.
00:20:13And then Leclerc a little bit further back. Under pressure from Piastri.
00:20:16Then comes Russell. Bortoletto runs in sixth. Then Alonso Hamilton in eighth.
00:20:20He's ahead now of Tsunoda. Into that first corner we go.
00:20:23And there's a lock up there. Charles Leclerc is under pressure once again.
00:20:27And survives this time.
00:20:30The championship leaders. Front wing and front wheels and tyres.
00:20:34Have been in perilously close company with some other cars.
00:20:38And that then is Bortoletto steaming down towards the second chicane.
00:20:42And Bortoletto having a go on George Russell.
00:20:45And Bortoletto for one moment thinking he was going to get past.
00:20:48But nothing doing. Russell maintains that fifth place.
00:20:52Dream ticket for Norris out front. He can run in clean air.
00:20:55That's why he'll be desperate to stay in front of Verstappen.
00:20:59Verstappen of course is within the one second zone.
00:21:02So gets the rear wing open. Gains about seven or eight kilometers per hour.
00:21:07Five miles an hour. The Red Bull's quick in a straight line as well.
00:21:10But the Ferrari is the quickest car in a straight line.
00:21:1325 points for a win. 12 points for fourth.
00:21:16I said Oscar Piastri wouldn't be too bothered if he lost three points to his championship rival.
00:21:2013 points. That's another matter. He's got some work to do to maintain that gap he's got out in front of the table.
00:21:27And Verstappen was close going into Bortoletto corner as it's now called Parabolica.
00:21:32And very close indeed. He'll get the rear wing open. He's got a chance on the brakes down into the first chicane.
00:21:37It's only worth about 10 kilometers an hour of extra speed.
00:21:40And the Red Bull is the DRS. But it's working to great effect there.
00:21:43Verstappen under braking. Gets it slowed down. Norris locks up.
00:21:47Verstappen though keeps it on the road. And he gets the race lead back again.
00:21:52So here on lap four, Max Verstappen, who had to give a place back at the start to Lando Norris,
00:21:57now gets it back and takes the lead and charges onwards towards the two Lesbo corners.
00:22:02And that's, if you saw our DRS feature early on, that's what it's all about.
00:22:06Bring cars into play. Now you would have seen Charles Leclerc cut across where Max Verstappen cut across.
00:22:13But because he's then backed himself up and not had what they call a lasting advantage,
00:22:18he will not take a penalty for that.
00:22:21So I mentioned Hamilton had got ahead of Tsunoda.
00:22:23He needs to give that back. He went to defend and went long.
00:22:27Yeah, we saw, we saw.
00:22:29Oscar sees it a different way.
00:22:31And we're on board with Oscar now towards the Ascari chicane.
00:22:34I said that Hamilton ahead of Tsunoda and the race controllers noted.
00:22:38Potentially Lewis Hamilton for leaving the track and gaining an advantage that hasn't gone to the stewards yet.
00:22:44We got the speedometer on Oscar Piastri here as towards 200 miles an hour.
00:22:49On that back straight we go and then hurtle into the Parabolica and scrubbing off around about 70 miles an hour when they make their entry.
00:22:57Yeah, at peak lateral loads there. You could see Piastri having to just correct the car in the turbulent air.
00:23:03Will he have a run down the inside of the Ferrari this time?
00:23:06It's only about seven kilometers an hour of DRS advantage for the McLaren.
00:23:09That's not enough to get alongside the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.
00:23:13But further back there is Lewis Hamilton on Fernando Alonso.
00:23:17Really neat move from him.
00:23:19And he's up into seventh place after starting tenth in this race.
00:23:22This is really bringing Lewis Hamilton back into play in this Grand Prix.
00:23:26And they were right not to try something different for the sake of it.
00:23:29Here's the start. Everybody got away pretty well.
00:23:32And you can see Norris up front on the right hand side got away especially well.
00:23:37Gets a little shove onto the grass but that's just because they ran out of tarmac there to be honest.
00:23:42And this is where Verstappen effectively couldn't make the corner, maintained the lead.
00:23:49Others went through there as well. Tsunoda too.
00:23:51So as has been noted and that is why I think quite rightly Red Bull said give that place back.
00:23:57Yep, so Max Verstappen having to give the place back.
00:24:00This is the battle that continued on towards that second chicane.
00:24:04I think Bortoletto also went into the runoff area in the Sauber at the start.
00:24:08We can see what everything looked like from behind the Red Bull now.
00:24:12The rear wing of Max Verstappen's pole-sitting car.
00:24:15That's Lando Norris alongside him.
00:24:17Oscar Piastri looking to find a way through.
00:24:20He let the brakes go, mate.
00:24:24Yeah.
00:24:25So Max sees it that Lando kind of forced his momentum onto the gravel.
00:24:30Lando and Piastri then with an even better chance on the Ferrari this time if he's late on the brakes.
00:24:35This is going to be tight. This is going to be really tight.
00:24:38And Piastri is late enough on the brakes to squeeze his way through and up into third.
00:24:42Super smart from Piastri.
00:24:44Left loads of space for the Ferrari on the inside so they didn't get spun around.
00:24:50Really, his two moves so far in Leclerc, and vice versa actually for Leclerc, have been top draw to say the least.
00:24:58But, um, yeah.
00:25:00But the Ferrari's fundamentally straight in a fast in a straight line.
00:25:03But if they've not got track position, then it's going to hurt them.
00:25:07That helps Piastri's championship position nicely and track position very nicely indeed.
00:25:13Certainly does.
00:25:14Who says you can't overtake at Monza?
00:25:16Who says it's impossible to overtake at the Temple of Speed?
00:25:19We've seen so many moves in these opening six laps here.
00:25:23And out in front, Max Verstappen by just over one and a half seconds at the end of lap five from Lando Norris.
00:25:29That gap now, 1.8 seconds.
00:25:31So, Lando Norris didn't get pushed on the grass.
00:25:34Basically, it went from three lanes to two.
00:25:36Tarmac turned into grass.
00:25:38And Lando Norris is entirely, entirely entitled to carry Speed into the first corner.
00:25:44He made the corner.
00:25:45He made the apex.
00:25:46He didn't run into anything.
00:25:47So, I don't think either driver have a proper beef there.
00:25:51Lap seven of 53 here.
00:25:54Has the Ferrari got the speed to come back?
00:25:56And Oscar Piastri again.
00:25:57I'll tell you what, the other Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton's got some speed on Gabriel Bortoletto.
00:26:01That's another move from Lewis Hamilton.
00:26:03Started tenth.
00:26:04And he's now up into sixth place.
00:26:06George Russell, his former teammate, is the one ahead of that Sonoda and Hamilton incident.
00:26:11No further investigation by the stewards.
00:26:15So, both drivers clean to race.
00:26:17And Verstappen then immediately into a two-second lead.
00:26:20Pulls himself out of the DRS detection zone.
00:26:23And gives him a nice, comfortable breather up front.
00:26:26Also gives Norris a little bit of fresh air for his car and his tyres.
00:26:32Certainly does.
00:26:33And I think cooling down the tyres in these early stages with a full load of fuel on board these cars
00:26:39might be the order of the day.
00:26:41And then we'll see if the drivers can keep enough performance in those tyres to make some gains,
00:26:47make some moves towards the end of a stint in what is meant to be a one-stop race.
00:26:51Leclerc still in DRS range of Oscar Piastri, but not by much.
00:26:55Lewis Hamilton's got a good race car underneath him.
00:26:58He's now just got one car, two cars between him and Leclerc, and he's moving forward nicely.
00:27:07Behind him, Bortoleto. Behind him, Alonso.
00:27:10And Fernando Alonso, by the way, and his teammate Lance Stroll,
00:27:13will be investigated after this race for their practice starts that they did before the laps towards the grid.
00:27:19There is a box on the right-hand side you are meant to start from, and it could be that the Aston Martins weren't starting from there.
00:27:26So that will be investigated after the race, and we'll keep you posted as to what happens.
00:27:30Leclerc was showing just inside DRS.
00:27:32You can see at the top of your screen now it's popped out,
00:27:34but he didn't have it open down the pit straights at the critical detection point.
00:27:37So he's now starting to come under pressure from George Russell.
00:27:41Here's Charles Leclerc as Piastri just starts to edge down the road.
00:27:45Stewards are looking at Ocon and Stroll for forcing another driver off the track.
00:27:49That is being investigated. Ocon up into 14th from 15th on the grid.
00:27:55And Lance Stroll down in 16th currently.
00:27:58Liam Lawson on the soft tyres has made up places to 15th.
00:28:02Hadja and Gasly, who started from the pit lane, still right by the back.
00:28:05And George Russell, who started 5th in the last two races, still running in the top five currently
00:28:10and gaining on Charles Leclerc as we watch now Isaac Hadja in the racing balls,
00:28:15making a move on Franco Colopinto.
00:28:17Well, trying to, but then realizing, as you were saying, Martin,
00:28:20it goes from three lanes into two, and there was no room to get past.
00:28:24Ted Kravitz was saying just how tight it was down there when he was in the Valhalla,
00:28:28riding with Fernando Alonso on Thursday for the dream ride of his life.
00:28:32Now, the Valhalla was quick down the main straight,
00:28:35but how quick is the Mercedes with George Russell?
00:28:39So he's in DRS range, and the city's catching Charles Leclerc.
00:28:42The Ferrari is good in a straight line.
00:28:44Leclerc hasn't got DRS. George Russell has.
00:28:47And it's not enough to get him alongside into that braking zone.
00:28:50Yeah, they're only two or three miles an hour faster, the Ferraris, than the rest of the pack.
00:28:55They've trimmed their wing level and drag level down a bit.
00:28:58But it showed up there, didn't it?
00:29:00I'd imagine George getting a lot closer than that, than he actually was able to do so.
00:29:05Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli gaining on Yuki Tsunoda in the DRS range two.
00:29:11And there's a bit of a DRS train behind him as he accelerates Behrman and Sainz and Albon and Ocon and Lawson with him along the way.
00:29:19And talking of Esteban Ocon, he's got a five-second penalty for forcing another driver off the track.
00:29:26So when he comes in for his pit stop, he'll remain motionless for five seconds before they do any work on his car.
00:29:32And he'll have to serve that.
00:29:33That's going to hurt him around here.
00:29:35And so if you're wondering why McLaren is not dominant like it has been in recent times,
00:29:42their car works particularly well in 200 km per hour, 140 mile an hour corners.
00:29:48And there aren't any around here basically.
00:29:50This is all about straight line speed and this is about efficiency and downforce.
00:29:55While efficiency and downforce in the low downforce settings were trimmed out as it were.
00:30:02And the McLaren does not excel in the same way in those conditions.
00:30:05Here's George Russell making another bid for fourth place and he is a bit closer to Charles Leclerc on this occasion.
00:30:11But once more, he could do with a few more car lengths, a few less car lengths between himself and the Ferrari to try and get alongside.
00:30:19Starting in the top five at each of the last three Italian Grand Prix.
00:30:22And George Russell trying to get back on the podium here where he last stood in 2022.
00:30:27So the Mercedes has got a little bit more downforce on it.
00:30:30But remember how good George Russell was in qualifying on the medium compound tyre such that he wanted them for the final part of qualifying as well and didn't get them.
00:30:39But so I think Russell's got a really nice set up there, especially for this phase of the race.
00:30:45Now why you're asking is Esteban Ocon got a penalty.
00:30:48So into the second chicane we go and there's Lance Stroll on the grass.
00:30:51And that is why not enough space was left for two cars to remain on the asphalt.
00:30:57And Esteban Ocon picks up the penalty for that.
00:31:00And Verstappen's lead now over three seconds.
00:31:03The gap to him and Lando Norris.
00:31:05And then there's a further gap of about four seconds just over back to Oscar Piastri.
00:31:10Then comes Charles Leclerc two seconds behind him and George Russell who is on the charge once more.
00:31:14Lewis Hamilton trying to gain on George Russell.
00:31:17Last lap was about two tenths faster than his former teammate.
00:31:20Then comes Portoleto, Alonso, Tsunoda and Antonelli in the final point scoring position.
00:31:26It sort of feels a bit like the old days where Verstappen just walking away at the front there with a lot of comfortable speed.
00:31:34But George Russell right now is probably ruining the extra bit of downforce he's carrying on the Mercedes.
00:31:41And what was it six, seven laps in the last six Grand Prix before today.
00:31:45Max Verstappen had led.
00:31:47He's more than doubled his tally here despite having to concede that lead after the shenanigans at the first corner and then pinching it back again with a very neat move.
00:31:57And then Joseph Piastri who was battling away with Charles Leclerc in the early stages now seems to have cleared the Ferrari and is running that kind of lonely-ish race in third currently.
00:32:07And his teammate up in second scoring as it stands three more points than him.
00:32:13than him so the top three on the grid are running one two three as it stands in fact the top five
00:32:19are running one two three four five and we can head down to the pit lane and ten yes so just
00:32:23looking down to the mclaren pit wall they're kind of looking at max verstappen's lap times
00:32:27every lap quicker than lando norris so max building the gap and there's nothing really
00:32:32mclaren can respond with they're telling oscar piastri lando norris we think plan a so they're
00:32:37just sticking with the first choice of what they're going to do on the stops probably stretch
00:32:41it's at 22 maybe try and undercut but with a three second gap and building for verstappen
00:32:47verstappen's got all that covered hasn't he crofton he certainly has it was a mclaren 2-3 here last
00:32:52year if you remember oscar piastri ahead of lando norris it was the second time in 2024 that both
00:32:58mclarens have been on the podium at that stage so far 11 times this year in 2025 another advantage
00:33:05mclaren have had this season is they look after their tires a lot better but this tarmac this
00:33:11new service has matured quite a bit it's not ripping the tire they're not grading up the
00:33:15pirelli have changed and improved the tires as well so it's it's not about degradation the tires are
00:33:21not falling apart so that advantage of mclaren has been taken away too we got 19 cars running in this
00:33:28race nika hulkenberg sadly having to retire before the start jonathan wheatley his team boss is on the
00:33:33pit wall for us jonathan what was the issue yeah it's always sad to have to retire a car at any point
00:33:40in the race uh we had a hydraulic issue we don't quite understand it yet but um with a new uh power
00:33:46unit it was probably the best thing to do and when did that show itself uh jonathan actually the final
00:33:53fire up on the grid uh martin um so you probably saw a bit of activity around the car around the
00:33:58seven minute mark um yeah we did what we could on the grid but these cars are incredibly complicated
00:34:04most of these systems are buried deep inside them so unfortunately uh yeah nico's race uh had to be
00:34:11ended gabriel portoletto running in the top seven what's uh what's his race pace looking like and are
00:34:18you happy with it yeah um we're having all the right conversations about managing tires um just
00:34:24settling down obviously lawson pulled the pin so we're expecting a few other cars to start boxing soon
00:34:29and yeah it's gonna be a long afternoon certainly is but hopefully a productive one thanks ever so
00:34:35much uh jonathan the rookie drivers uh being headed by gabriel portoletto on the uh track currently and
00:34:42we mentioned liam lawson there he did pit to get rid of those soft tires they lasted uh precisely 10 laps
00:34:48and that was that for the soft tire so that'll give you an indication as to whether anyone's going to
00:34:53use the soft tires a little bit later on i think they'll only use those if there's a late
00:34:57latest safety car won't they because they want some grip on the restart it's a medium and hard
00:35:03compound we probably should have been a step softer here shouldn't we to force a two-stopper
00:35:07hopefully they'll change that for next year well lewis hamilton was saying that we've got the c6 now so
00:35:12let's use it pirelli in as they celebrate 500 grand prix's which came in at zandvoort's uh last weekend
00:35:20may be a bit concerned about the uh the top speeds uh here at monza but uh these tires look fairly
00:35:27durable i'm sure the c6 would be as well looking at the portoletto seven tenths ahead of alonso alonso's
00:35:33in his man portoletto's management team their best friend i joked on the grid because i i was
00:35:39walking down to go to the grid and two crazy blokes came along on scooters trying to run each other
00:35:46into the ferrari motorhome it was portoletto and alonso larking around and uh yeah but that's there's
00:35:55the dynamic you've got your manager but you've probably hero worshipped him all through your
00:36:00childhood you've got your manager behind you i love the dynamics of that so it's fabulous great
00:36:05relationship there portoletto's relationship with verstappen as well uh where they race against each
00:36:11other in the in the sim world i think they were also playing call of duty earlier this week together
00:36:15online uh too there's a few places between them on the track and around about 18 and a half seconds
00:36:21uh currently uh but let's see how that pans out for the rest of the race ted down to you
00:36:25well martin was was portoletto also saying all aboard and doing a choo choo because he is very much
00:36:32heading the drs train and just looking into the mercedes garage they're thinking about whether they can
00:36:37do anything with kimmy antonelli got a bad start dropped four places now p10 with sunoda as well
00:36:43and fernando alonso for that point and bearman and science and alban behind the portoletto drs train
00:36:49and i think mercedes are going to think maybe of an early stop for antonelli see what they can do
00:36:53about that i'm quite impressed as well as to how george russell is still managing to to run as close to
00:37:00charles leclerc i mean he's dropping back a little bit but he's been behind that ferrari now for many
00:37:05many laps so the temperatures uh on the tires as he just moves to one side to get a bit of cooler air
00:37:12uh going through that mercedes the temperatures will soon start to go through the roof
00:37:17just imagine ted handing out tickets for the drs train in the paddock he'd love that yeah he'd be
00:37:24like an old inspector you know that they used to punch your tickets and uh punch a hole in it
00:37:28with his little peaked cap as well i could see that myself
00:37:32coming to a notebook near you soon out in front martin who we can't see at the moment
00:37:38is max verstappen which is a shame really because he is absolutely dominating this race
00:37:43and controlling it well and the gap now over four seconds to lando norris he's pretty consistently
00:37:48three to four tenths faster than norris norris has just done the fastest middle sector of the
00:37:53entire grand prix of course they're starting now to use up a little bit of their fuel and with it with
00:37:59this low deg as we like to impress ourselves with degradation of the tires often using up fuel makes
00:38:07you go faster than the time you lose as your tires go off so that's always been the case here
00:38:14in monza if i remember back to the days where sometimes we do 50 60 laps approaching 50 lap
00:38:21sometimes pitting on the last lap actually didn't it go as far as you could on one set of tires because
00:38:26you don't really hurt them in the straights this is good nice and clean stay in contention
00:38:33uh hard tires to come uh between laps 25 and 30 maybe but see if anyone does pull the pin and start
00:38:42to pit from further behind the trouble with trying to make an undercut work pitting ahead of the driver
00:38:49in front and hoping that on fresh tires you've got the pace to get past them when they finally make
00:38:54a pit stop is that when you go from the medium onto the hard tire here the hard tire takes a little
00:38:59bit longer to warm up and you can't just go push straight away landowner is saying my front left
00:39:05is the limiting factor for going faster um it's a clockwise circuit and most of the key corners are
00:39:12right handers so uh that is why your front left gets a little bit of stress what i what i think is
00:39:19going to be very interesting is when they go on to the hard compound tires just over half distance
00:39:24probably or around half distance as to whether that moves the dynamics of this grand prix whether
00:39:31it changes who's got the advantage which it often can do the staff and sets a new fastest lap of this
00:39:38race lando norris crosses the line 4.3 seconds behind him george russell has now just detached himself
00:39:48from that magic one seconds he's not in drs range of charles claire and i wonder if that
00:39:54then helps lewis hamilton a little bit lap previous to this lap 15 he was three tenths quicker than
00:39:59russell now he's a tenth quicker than russell does that help lewis hamilton i wonder uh just to close
00:40:04that gap a little bit faster now that russell's not getting the drs benefit behind charles claire
00:40:10we'll see karuna sky race control good afternoon crofty just uh listening in to some of the radio here
00:40:16verstappen is completely in control all the feedback he's giving is cars good pace is good
00:40:21but tires are good so he is he's checked out four and a half seconds with deja vu 2023 now just looking
00:40:28at what russell can do so we think that the undercut here is not as powerful as in holland or in in
00:40:34hungary before that he needs to be within about a second now there's a gap as leclerc has gone 11 the
00:40:40gravel at the second lesmo there's a gap he eats about 25 seconds of pit stop there's a small gap right
00:40:47at the back of the field between lawson and gasly where russell can slot into but then he'll quickly
00:40:53get caught with people the problem for any of the top runners is that the field is still quite tightly
00:40:58punched and you can't pit too early or you'll get stuck in traffic and you don't want to get stuck martin
00:41:04behind the likes of alex album for instance on the hard tire leading a gaggle of cars on the hard
00:41:09tie behind him who are going to go that little bit longer absolutely so they're watching that
00:41:16a long way behind the message from christian horner here actually saying this is our worst race last
00:41:20year with the wrong downforce level and how hard the work team have worked on that package and then a
00:41:26great job because they've turned it around 38 seconds i think max verstappen finished behind the race leader
00:41:32of race winner charlotte claire is down the inside goes kimmy antonelli on yuki sunoda and he's got one
00:41:39place back but the four that he lost at the start there neat little move there from the man from bologna
00:41:44he moves up into ninth it looks like carlos science has been down running through the runoff area without
00:41:51going around the necessary bollard and following the yellow lines he's been reported uh for failing to follow
00:42:00race director's instructions on the runoff zone yeah there's a specific line you have to take and
00:42:06even if you can't get to the right of the yellow line at the start of that particular corner you still
00:42:12need to come on uh later into the runoff area let's see what happened lock up there and he's going to
00:42:18come on before the yellow line you can see it just on the right hand side of your screen yeah that'll take
00:42:22some defending carlos take a lot of defending unfortunately uh so and there's a reason for it
00:42:29it's so that the cars feed back in in a controlled way at a controlled angle lando there uh playing
00:42:38a risky game because that can damage the underneath the car or brings gravel onto the track yeah the
00:42:44gravel can damage the aero parts and then it can pepper those as well that's for all the cars of course
00:42:49to go through it ollie behrman's coming into the pits to try the undercut from 11th it was mentioned
00:42:55to us by ferrari actually just watch out for the gravel if enough of it comes onto the circuit that
00:43:00might necessitate a virtual safety car or a safety car for the marshals to come and sweep it so behrman
00:43:07comes in to the pits and he should i would imagine get out ahead of liam lawson they've decided down at
00:43:14house that that's the gap that they're trying to put him into but that's not quite happened lawson's
00:43:19actually gone through you you do lose a lot of time here 25 seconds in your pit stop because of the
00:43:26speeds that the cars are doing down the straight while you're uh stuck and controlled at 80 kilometers
00:43:31an hour max just walking it in this place now yeah it's a solid max keep building the advantage
00:43:39we know how things can change so keep uh yeah he can have that advantage distance yeah it solid i
00:43:46think is the understatement from gp giampiero lambias who likes to play things down uh at the best of
00:43:52times it's uh it is a master class from max currently well what could change is they go into the hard
00:43:56compound tires and also a safety car something like that or a virtual safety car so um and also
00:44:04this kind of lead he's got now they're going to make a pit stop at red bull and it might be a last
00:44:08minute call uh this for yuki sunoda and they dropped the tires as they were trying to get them
00:44:14out of the racks no harm done they'll be ready for him when he comes in so bearman's pit stop has now
00:44:19triggered yuki sunoda's as well alonso getting closer to gabriel bortoletto and locking up in the
00:44:24process yeah an avalanche of pirelli's there all of a sudden but i was saying out front verstappen with
00:44:31that kind of with a 5.6 second lead they can wait they can afford to come in the following lap
00:44:37of norris and norris and piastri it buys them time uh and a comfort zone uh that's what uh as we see
00:44:45as we've seen him doing so many times haven't we over the last few years so this is why red bull
00:44:49brought yuki sunoda in and why they responded straight away and why the undercut it can work
00:44:56here but not on this case and not on this occasion sunoda comes out from this pit stop still ahead of
00:45:01uh bearman in the house but bearman with his tires slightly more warmed up than sunoda is going to
00:45:06challenge this one going to the uh chicane and by the time under braking they get to the chicane
00:45:12ollie bearman has made his way past uh yuki sunoda very neat little move indeed for the man who won the
00:45:18monza f2 feature race in 2023 and who won the sprint race here this time last year let's see the gravel yeah
00:45:26meister i think yeah and you could hear the bottom of the car couldn't you crunching down the serrated
00:45:33oh you know you can see the sparks that made such a mess of his aerodynamics portoletto's pitted and
00:45:38alonzo's pitted too just keep an eye on that gravel uh through this because that might pose something of
00:45:45a problem if anyone else goes off and we've had quite a few going off this weekend right neat pit stop
00:45:51from aston martin 3.2 seconds looks a bit slower that does look a bit slower and as they come out
00:45:57they look to be side by side let's have a look at the cars as they emerge into the sunshine and alonzo
00:46:02has got ahead at the pit stop of gabriel portoletto and it was a better stop from the aston martin crew
00:46:09as here comes the racing bulls just to compound portoletto's misery getting in between uh this particular
00:46:16fight so the tires come out of the blankets at a maximum of 70 degrees c they need to be around 100
00:46:23that's why you take a little bit of time these days to a few corners to bring them up to where you need
00:46:29them which is why we saw bearman slicing past sunoda as well yeah now lawson uh pitted 11 laps ago to put
00:46:36his hard compound tires on and he's now got himself right in the thick of what was a battle for uh
00:46:41over seventh and eighth place so into the pit lane we go and fernando alonzo really aggressively
00:46:47attacking that the wise old head he took 10 15 meters out of him didn't he uh by being less cautious
00:46:55as long as he didn't break the speed limit there so that put him in play and that made the difference
00:47:00honestly it made the difference that they had to hold portoletto there so portoletto might have slammed
00:47:07alonzo into the ferrari motorhome on a scooter but he's just had a bit of payback certainly has
00:47:13and this is max verstappen and to remind you he is our race leader look the gravel's gone off the
00:47:17racing line that's good uh that's what we want to see there verstappen nearly six seconds clear of
00:47:23lando norris what a dream feeling this must be for max verstappen who of course hasn't stood on top of
00:47:30the podium this season uh since imola uh that's uh the win there and of course in japan and suzuka
00:47:36where he won from pole as you were looking at that data crofty at max was really ringing the neck
00:47:41of that red bull through the oscarish can he is pushing like crazy ted what can you tell us got to
00:47:48give some credit to the aston martin mechanics as well as that uh martin and crofty they did their
00:47:53bit they were giving it a go by following portoletto in they knew that it was a fight between the
00:47:58mechanics and the aston martin it wasn't a two second stop wasn't a 1.9 it was actually more
00:48:03like a mid two to to high two second but they did it and lots of fist bumping and congratulations
00:48:09amongst them they made it happen as much as the south mechanics having to delay portoletto getting
00:48:13out of that bit box uh that is portoletto lawson and behind him ollie behrman behind ollie behrman uh in
00:48:21this race currently is yuki sunoda and he is the last of the 19 runners still going karun to you
00:48:26yeah just a line on on liam lawson coffee is in the middle of that obviously he's the only car that
00:48:30started on the soft tire so bought a letter overtaking him that is for a net position when
00:48:36they all finish their pit stops this group of cars we're looking at they're the first of the cars
00:48:41who have pitted and alonzo and portoletto should cycle back into the point so for ollie behrman he needs
00:48:48to try and get past loss in here his tires are nine laps fresher thanks ever so much indeed karun at
00:48:55sky race control we're on lap 23 of 53 here at uh monza ollie behrman getting very close to liam
00:49:03lawson under braking uh into the chicane desperate i'm sure uh to try and get past i mentioned ollie behrman's
00:49:11credentials uh here at uh monza liam lawson uh no slouch around this track he was on pole in f3
00:49:18in 2020 he was in the front row in 2022 and he got his first f3 sprint podium here in 2019 as well
00:49:27through to the lesmo corners uh they come the two uh right handers the second lesmo it's been a tricky
00:49:37exit it must be said right gabriel portoletto on board with him down towards that first chicane lock
00:49:44up from the racing bull that's just piqued his attention that a touch and just you can hear the
00:49:51wheel spin as they get their uh their foot flat to the floor and not spinning quite so much portoletto
00:49:57good momentum from him and he manages to get past the racing bulls yeah his front wing must have been
00:50:03perilously close to as uh antonelli takes to the runoff area after a lock-up as soon as your wheels
00:50:11stop rotating you've got you've halved the grip you you cannot slow down and you're damned if you do
00:50:18break harder and damned if you don't correct you just can't make the corner
00:50:22you know max verstappen has had to put in an overtake to retake the lead of this italian grand
00:50:30prix we had all the the hustle and bustle and the kerfuffles from the opening few laps but it's settled
00:50:35down now out in front 6.3 seconds the gap between verstappen and norris watching the gap between russell
00:50:42and hamilton continue to close down by two tenths on the previous lap another two tenths on this lap
00:50:49louis taking his time uh to get a bit closer to george russell uh but he's got that gap down from
00:50:55about 2.7 seconds in the last few laps as we cross and go on board to alex albon running in the top
00:51:02nine on the hard compound tire behind his teammate carlos sainz who is uh under investigation or who's
00:51:08been uh noted i should say 24 in the racing line from this lap please i think there's more to win by
00:51:16if guys i don't agree please
00:51:22so what's that instruction all about to turn four keep the racing line so not this one oh fernando
00:51:29alonso is that a right rear puncture it looks a bit it it does look to be a bit low down
00:51:35on that right rear meanwhile here comes alex albon as i say on the hard tire compared to science on the
00:51:41medium tire and i wonder if this is alex albon being instructed by the team that they're going
00:51:46to swap places here carlos science may be not overly happy about it science being told do not defend
00:51:51into what was their turn four keep to the racing line do not defend against albon is what they were
00:51:57telling him which is pretty much same thing as you're saying crofty thank you that does look like a
00:52:02puncture doesn't it uh for fernando alonso just look at the balance of the car as he comes in
00:52:08suspension failure possibly what is it going on there suspension failure this is unbelievable oh
00:52:16it's so so disappointing ted kravitz he came into this weekend not expected much and he was having a
00:52:21really good uh race battle that he was winning with gabriel bortoletto yes the front right it's the
00:52:27front right the mechanics are pointing at it uh fernando's so disappointed and wow you can go
00:52:32from elation for winning that position to bortoletto to complete despair alonso can't wait to get out
00:52:37of the well that's that's possibly yeah that's well definitely happening yeah but uh yeah alonso
00:52:43lifting the headrest out himself because he's just so annoyed he can't wait to get out of the car
00:52:48it was quite is gutting sorry ted he was quite high up on the exit curve of the scari and the shock
00:52:54loading the frequency it just it just broke the suspension scored in six of the last seven grand
00:52:59prix fernando alonso and sadly for him that's the second retirement here at monzo in the la monza
00:53:05in the last five years uh carlos science is now under investigation for failing to follow what the
00:53:12race director said in his race notes i.e go off the track you've got to come on at a certain point and
00:53:16he didn't do that at the second chicane so we'll see if there's a penalty coming carlos science's way
00:53:23and his teammate has scampered past him and already broken a drs science currently scoring a couple
00:53:30of points on the bearman uh down in 16th his nearest rival to the championship but bearman has
00:53:36already pitted science has and ocon still carrying a five second penalty there isn't he hasn't served
00:53:41yet in 10th that's absolutely right so he's got a penalty to serve science is under investigation
00:53:47and nobody's really investigating max verstappen much in this race because he's so far out in front
00:53:52and lando norris was should drink plan a plus 15 do you think that's possible
00:53:59i think so oh yes wow so can you go 15 laps longer on your first stint please so let me explain why that's
00:54:07happening those have come in and put brand new hard compound tires on and not going particularly well
00:54:13it looks like sticking with a medium time doing a very very long stint uh from the information they
00:54:20can gather from those at the back that have pitted and that's why they're all they're going to all
00:54:26extend and and hang on to the used mediums they seem a better time right interesting that that can
00:54:31have a bearing on how quick this race is run i don't know if you've got your stopwatches uh handy at
00:54:38home and if you've had your stopwatches on from the start but we passed half race distance in 36
00:54:43minutes oh my god sorry i didn't drop it and and that's crucial because we're on pace to break
00:54:53the record here for the fastest race in formula one history michael schumacher winning here in 2003
00:55:00he did it in an hour 14 minutes 19.838 seconds charles claire last year was uh 21 seconds slower
00:55:08when he won that and if they keep up this pace then we could as george russell pits have the fastest
00:55:15ever formula one grand prix in world championship history so we'll see what happens there as george
00:55:21russell comes in to make his pit stop hard tires going on sure that was the quickest stop we've seen
00:55:27from mercedes yeah 2.9 seconds so he lost about seven tenths uh of a second while he was stationary and
00:55:34he's going to come out now behind uh the uh racing balls isn't he of uh of uh isaac hadja hadja running
00:55:41down in 11th so what so current channel let's head to you sky race control thanks coffee just reflecting
00:55:49on that message there to oscar piastri this morning andrea stella made a comment that the soft tire
00:55:56is holding up quite well and could be an option what are your thoughts about uh continuing until
00:56:02we put a soft yeah i mean you may as well continue for now yeah that's exactly what i was going to
00:56:10say drop the address tell me this morning the soft is a raceable tire and i think that's what
00:56:15they're trying to do extend the medium and put the soft on at the end as liam lawson goes battling with
00:56:21yuki sunoda and his contact between the two cars once twice three times four times and it all ends
00:56:26up getting very scrappy as he moves past second race in a row that liam lawson's made contact with
00:56:33another car i'd rather get the feeling that's going to be looked at meanwhile as a reprimand for carlos
00:56:39science for rejoining the track where he shouldn't have done yuki sunoda's now got that place back i
00:56:45assume uh it's alan permain the team principal down at racing ball said you know liam i think
00:56:50you might need to to give that back yourself before the stewards makers antonelli is now pitting for
00:56:55mercedes that's an interesting uh a reprimand so towards the end of the race it might be worth just
00:57:04banzaiing through that zone runoff zone gain two or three seconds that's a lasting advantage of course
00:57:10and have a reprimand for it right is kimmy antonelli coming out ahead of gabriel bortoletto
00:57:15yes he is that's why mercedes had to pit maybe one lap longer than it would have been an awful lot
00:57:23tighter as he came back out again and important for their race that antonelli is ahead of gabriel
00:57:29bortoletto so that's the overcut working really well there for the mercedes and the four second stop
00:57:35for bortoletto as well hasn't it sort of put him on the back foot bit of weaving from antonelli to
00:57:41generate some temperature look at that that's blistering that's blistering on the right front
00:57:46of max verstappen's car that that's that's a big problem graining is one thing you lose grip and it
00:57:53but that is blistering and pirelli will be nervous about that because you can and so will red bull
00:57:59because you can get because it sort of it comes from the core of the tire you can have tire issues
00:58:06with blistering i'm talking about the integrity of the tire now so a black and white flag for track
00:58:12limits for kimmy antonelli who goes over the white lines one more time and we'll get a five second
00:58:18penalty max verstappen's got blistering on his tires lando norris is six seconds back oscar piastri six
00:58:25seconds back on him and george russell is now the fastest man on track on a new set of hard tires
00:58:30karuna race control you're just looking at the pace though george's time as you said new fastest
00:58:35fan but only three tenths quicker than what the mclarens have done and four tenths quicker than
00:58:40verstappen so you know and and they have got buffer despite the blistering the performance still seems okay
00:58:48in those tires for the leaders it certainly does on this lap though lando norris is already about three
00:58:53tenths faster than max verstappen who as i say that it goes and puts in the quickest uh final sector
00:59:01of a 27-1 and was just over a tenth faster than lando norris but norris on that lap about just under
00:59:08three tenths quicker is is that performance starting to uh to just degrade a little bit on verstappen's
00:59:15red bull so it's the right front wasn't it of verstappen that's blistering because that gets
00:59:19dragged around corners not the loaded tire in these like parabolica but it gets dragged and they ran
00:59:25three degrees of front camber as well but it's it's surprising to see that pattern of blistering uh
00:59:33these days gasoline color sorry mate a gasoline color pinto you saw 12th and 13th uh uh in the uh
00:59:40distance they're going to move up a bit now as are those behind because carlos science has come in to
00:59:45get rid of his medium compound tire and to make a pit stop he has to sit wait now as he stops just a
00:59:55little bit long of his marks before he can get those new tires on three seconds to stop
