00:00:00Let's go then. The countdown is on from 10 all the way down to one here in Zandvoort for the
00:00:08Dutch Grand Prix to Abu Dhabi to finish off this season in 2025. Welcome back after the summer
00:00:14break for what is the 35th World Championship Dutch Grand Prix and a race that has been won
00:00:19from pole position for the fourth Dutch Grand Prix we've had since it returned to the calendar
00:00:24in 2021. 72 laps to come today a new track lap record yesterday by the pole sitter Oscar Piastri
00:00:31and his teammate Lando Norris only 12 milliseconds away on the front row. Who's going to come out on
00:00:37top today as McLaren chase a fifth consecutive one-two finish. The tyres are a step softer
00:00:43than last year so the C4 has been introduced the medium is the C3 that was the soft last year the
00:00:50hard the C2 that was the medium. Could anyone start on softs? We think one might have taken a gamble.
00:00:56We'll find out in just a few moments time. The weather is cooler than it was in qualifying.
00:01:00There is a 60% chance of rain for the race to come and here's your starting grid then for round 15 of
00:01:07this Formula One season. Starting in the pit lane with a brand new power unit is Oli Behrmann for
00:01:11Haas. Lance Stroll who crashed in Q1 starts 19th ahead of these two Esteban Ocon both Haas cars out in
00:01:17Q1 for the first time since Imola. Nico Hülkenberg has gained 10 or more places in four races this
00:01:22season. He's got to do it all again from 17th. Colopinto is 16th for Alpine. Alex Alba misses Q3 here
00:01:29for the first time in three years. Pierre Gasly is 14th and alongside him Gabriel Bortoletto out
00:01:35qualifying his teammate for the fifth race in a row. Yuki Tsunoda starts 12th never scored here at
00:01:40Zandvoort. Kimi Antonelli first Mercedes to miss Q3 three times in a row in the hybrid era.
00:01:45Ten on the grid has won this race twice in the last seven runnings. That's Fernando Alonso
00:01:50today. Carlos Sainz starts ninth with Liam Lawson ahead of him in eighth and Lewis Hamilton
00:01:54starting seventh. Ahead of these two Charles Leclerc six for Ferrari out qualifying Lewis Hamilton
00:02:01for the 11th time this season. George Russell starts fifth. He's only once qualified outside
00:02:05the top six this season. Isaac Hadja a career best fourth on the grid for him alongside Max Verstappen
00:02:12who starts third and then the all papaya front row of Lando Norris last year's race winner
00:02:17and Oscar Piastri the championship leader. Six race wins so far this season but we think
00:02:24Karun Chandokhi is going to be under pressure today because it's been nip and suck between
00:02:28those two McLaren drivers all weekend long. It's been incredibly close between them. Lando
00:02:32fastest in all the free practice sessions. Fastest in the second part of qualifying but at the end
00:02:371200s a distant slipstream from Isaac Hadja's racing bold dragged Oscar Piastri of the line. They were dead
00:02:44equal before the last corner and it was 1200s. However at the start they have got to watch out
00:02:51for the home hero Max Verstappen as we speculated before the start this man will be starting
00:02:56Crofty on the soft tyre. Now that's not going to be a massive advantage off the launch. It's only
00:03:02164 corners 164 meters to the first corner. However for the first half of the lap the soft tyre will
00:03:10work better than the mediums that the others have and that could be something where Max is hoping to
00:03:15count on. So Lando Norris who got overtaken by Max Verstappen at the start last year might find it
00:03:21happening again this year and it took Lando 18 laps to get past Max once again in the running of this race
00:03:2612 months ago. Max is not the only driver starting on the soft. So is his Red Bull teammate Yuki Tsunoda
00:03:32and so the Alpine of Franco Colopinto and the Sauber of Nico Hülkenberg. Esteban Ocon will start on the
00:03:38hard tie. The rest are all on the mediums but how long can they go in the race? It's worth a gamble I think
00:03:44from Red Bull right? You know I think Tsunoda is outside the points. Their challenge with him is trying to get him
00:03:49into the points somewhere 7th, 8th, 9th. With Max his only chance, his only chance to fight the
00:03:56McLarens is if he can get ahead of them on that opening lap. So I think it's worth the gamble
00:04:00and then they'll have to sort it out. At some point they'll take some pain. Will they get that early
00:04:05performance? It will degrade. He might have to pit, likely pit earlier. He'll take some pain then but
00:04:11they're going for track position because this is not an easy track to overtake on. And it has to be said
00:04:17as the drivers then move off the grid for the formation lap that Andrea Stella, the team
00:04:22principal at McLaren, was not counting his chickens before they come out of the shelves. Oh lock-up
00:04:28going into the first corner there by Isaac Hadjer in the Racing Bulls. Andrea saying don't discount
00:04:34out Max Verstappen here. Yes we are the best car so far but we might not have the pace that everyone
00:04:40thinks we have. Just to let you know in the last half an hour or so Lewis Hamilton on his
00:04:47reconnaissance laps to the grid has been noted by race control and passed to the stewards for a yellow
00:04:55flag infringement. Now this is going to be investigated after the race so I assume the
00:04:59stewards want to go and see him and the representatives from Ferrari but he's under
00:05:03investigation and will be throughout the entirety of this race. Bernie Collins is at
00:05:07race control afternoon Bernie. Good afternoon Crofty good afternoon everyone at home so just want to
00:05:11bring you some insight in that soft tyre as Corinne went through very important will give some extra
00:05:16grip in that opening lap is that Max's best chance to split the McLarens make their even a little bit
00:05:23more difficult. It will push him into an earlier stop lap so what to look for is what does the traffic
00:05:28behind Max Verstappen look like. Can he go long enough on that soft tyre around the lap 15 mark and
00:05:36not have significant traffic if he emerges on a hard tyre. That's going to be the crucial point of their
00:05:42race on that soft start tyre. Thank you Bernie and confirmation from the FIA that Lewis under
00:05:47investigation for not lifting under yellow flags during his laps to the grid. You see a yellow flag
00:05:52you know as a racing driver you've got to show that you've seen it responded and lifted off and
00:05:57the FIA wants to know why he didn't. Yeah no normally that's a very difficult one to argue but we'll
00:06:04see we'll see if they've got some mitigating circumstances that he can try but Crofty from his
00:06:09perspective as you said that's going to be investigated after the race so for now they've got to put that
00:06:13aside take that out of their mind just focus on the job for the next two hours. And the job for
00:06:19McLaren is to continue their dominance at the top of the Constructors Championship. 299 points their
00:06:25lead they could take a holiday an extended holiday and still come back for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix in
00:06:30November and be leading that Constructors Championship which they can win at its earliest in Baku in the
00:06:37two races time after this. In terms of the Drivers Championship just nine points in it and the last
00:06:43time Oscar Piastri led by nine points was after the Miami Sprint race and also after the Spa Sprint race
00:06:51and he went on and won the next Grand Prix. Is that an omen for today or is Lando Norris going to continue his
00:06:58recent run that has seen him win three of the last four Grand Prix. Such a tantalizing prospect this race
00:07:05it's going to be a brilliant battle. The driver's got to keep calm as I was saying before if you just
00:07:10imagine you put your hand up put your left hand up and try and precisely move it two centimeters
00:07:15in a controlled way. That's what they've got to do in a few moments time to get that launch perfectly
00:07:21right. They're going to judge the wheel spin feel it through their right foot in terms of the torque
00:07:25demand and get that right. And the light rain is coming in about 12 minutes time I'm being told. Dark
00:07:31skies on overhead bright light shining in front of the drivers there's five of them it's lights out and away we
00:07:36go and I think Lando Norris got a slightly better start than Oscar Piastri who's going to cover him
00:07:41off. Max Verstappen goes around the outside of Lando Norris and into second place but he's gone wide.
00:07:46Norris can find this back and Verstappen has to concede as they head now towards turn two. Hatcher in
00:07:52fourth place ahead of Russell and then Max Verstappen does move into second place. Lando Norris has lost
00:07:57out to him for the second year running. That was a wild ride for Verstappen they had to go around the
00:08:02outside of Norris gone on the grass on the inside of three somehow collected it went up the banking
00:08:07and covered it off and not the best scenario for Lando Norris by any stretch of the imagination.
00:08:12But the perfect scenario for his teammate Oscar Piastri who leads then from Max Verstappen on the
00:08:17soft tyres then comes Norris then comes Hatcher and then comes the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc ahead of
00:08:23George Russell Lewis Hamilton ahead of Liam Lawson Carlos Sainz ahead of his teammate Alex Albon who started well
00:08:29Yuki Tsunoda and then comes Kimi Antonelli and Fernando Alonso who has lost out places at the start
00:08:34here started 10th down into 13th. A fantastic start for Albon he's up five places Drafty that's a
00:08:40tremendous start he was really unhappy after qualifying because he thought he had the pace didn't
00:08:45deliver but Williams have got both cars now into the points. So drama on the first lap here in Zandvoort 72
00:08:52laps to come this Sunday afternoon DRS is now enabled as Oscar Piastri completes the first lap a second
00:08:58ahead of Max Verstappen down into turn one Hatcher's under pressure from Charles Leclerc who just has to
00:09:04back off a little bit more than he would have wanted and has lost ground and that might give George
00:09:08Russell a bit of impetus to get after the Ferrari on this lap too. Norris has dropped back he's dropped
00:09:13back over a second from Verstappen I wonder if he's now thinking okay I've got to play the long game
00:09:18I'm not gonna pass him on track what I need to do is bring my tyres in gently and then go for an offset
00:09:25what I mean is he'll try and go longer on this first stint than Oscar Piastri and try and get some
00:09:30reward for that later in the race. I think that's why he's backed off open up that gap to just try and
00:09:36bring the tyres in in a nice controlled way. And is it fair to say Isaac Hatcher is already becoming that
00:09:41that cork in the bottle a little bit. Lando's dropping back but Hatcher's pace is attracting interest from
00:09:47behind him and this is what was being predicted by McLaren by Ferrari by Rebel as well that the
00:09:53racing balls as much as it deserves to be there might not have the pace of the top three. Yeah and
00:09:58I think that's why we saw Charles having a look quite opportunistically even at the end of the first
00:10:02lap and he's lost a bit of ground on this lap but both Russell and Leclerc will know it's critical for
00:10:09their race against Verstappen and against each other really that they get ahead of Hatcher. So out of DRS
00:10:17threat is Oscar Piastri now he's a second and a half clear of Max Verstappen it's all concertineering
00:10:23behind Isaac Hatcher so the fifth place Charles Leclerc under pressure from George Russell under pressure
00:10:30from Russell's former teammate Lewis Hamilton great shot from the drone here as we see that wide line the
00:10:35cars slingshotting the way off the banking and out of turn three and then what I think is the best part
00:10:41of this track the swooping S's section all the way down to turn nine that difficult braking the right
00:10:47hander at the bottom of the hill Piastri out in front and going along very nicely but now his teammate
00:10:52Lando Norris starting to pick up a little bit behind him and setting the best first sector of the race so
00:10:59far in the opening part of the lap. Yeah Lando's gone through that gentle tire build-up phase now it takes
00:11:04about three laps okay we expect class one range for eight minutes round that seven may or may not
00:11:11require an inter unclear unlike a couple of years ago where it required a rudder let alone an inter and
00:11:17some drivers try to try to keep on the slicks and just hold on for dear life others went on to the
00:11:23intermediate tires and we saw 112 passes in that race after the first lap and that's really not what
00:11:30Oscar Piastri wanted to hear because as the leader of the race he's going to be the first one to hit
00:11:35that water when it does come and he's the one who has to judge how slippery is it how how much can I
00:11:42afford to push in terms of the risk versus reward and being the leader that's a challenge just looking
00:11:48at where the clouds are where the dark clouds are where the weather is coming in from I would imagine
00:11:53turns 13 and 14 the final corners is where the rain's gonna hit first here so if put it this way
00:12:01the teams should have plenty of time to warn their drivers if the rain is coming on and just how wet it
00:12:08is out there and the other thing Croft I will say if if we do get a bit of water on the surface
00:12:13having a softer tire a softer slick tire will be an advantage you won't lose temperature as much
00:12:19you'll just generally be able to keep a little bit more grip and that could be helpful for the two
00:12:24Red Bulls lap four of 72 that is the distance between Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen Lando Norris
00:12:31started to gain a little bit I think on Max Verstappen but only by a tenth on the last lap
00:12:36Isaac Hadja running in fourth Charles Leclerc in DRS range as is Russell as is Hamilton as is Lawson
00:12:42as is Sainz as is Albon Sonoda Antonelli Alonso there's a DRS train uh that is uh not so much parked
00:12:49at the station but rolling down the tracks here and that makes overtaking so so difficult until we
00:12:55start to see the tires uh degrading a bit initial getaway here I thought Lando Norris got a slightly
00:13:00better start Oscar had to go and cover him and then he's in trouble Karun it kind of feels a bit
00:13:05like Budapest isn't it where Lando got the better start on both of these occasions but then Oscar
00:13:11in this occasion pinched him Max there look at this gets on the dust then gets on the grass somehow
00:13:17manages to collect it up and get in front that was Lando that was mega control for Max Verstappen because
00:13:23that could have been a very very big incident yeah if you ever needed an illustration that we're close to
00:13:29the beach that was it you can see how dusty watch from this angle as soon as he gets away from the
00:13:34racing line there look the dust is coming up and uh there's the angle there off the banky you can see
00:13:40from the rear wing Lando would have had to just be cautious now watch watch Verstappen's hazard he's
00:13:46gone for the outside he's committed he's just thrown it there and then he's lost grip
00:13:50and then goes for the late downshift gets it gathered up and for him it was crucial at that
00:13:55point to get the car going straight and then use the banking to turn it on terrible getaway for
00:14:00Bortoleto yeah he got really sluggish right at the start that's why he's now running second last with
00:14:04only Ollie Behrman uh behind Gabriel Bortoleto lost six places then at the start that incident for
00:14:11Verstappen actually gave him a lower line through the banking and helps him stay ahead of Lando Norris I
00:14:17think this is Lance Stroll into the chicane tangling with Bortoleto and there's a bit of
00:14:21front wing end plate disappeared from the Sauber as Stroll muscled his way past on board now with
00:14:27Franco Colapinto DRS for his teammate Pierre Gasly but also for Colapinto himself now what's going to
00:14:35happen as we get down towards turn one later on the braking on the soft tyre Colapinto manages to pick up
00:14:42a place good move yeah great move really uh did give him you know much opportunity to come back
00:14:48on the exit there so great move from Colapinto Piastri starting to open up the gap now I wonder
00:14:53if we're starting to get to this point where they think the rain's coming and maybe Piastri's thinking
00:14:59you know what I just want to build a little safety margin so I can be a bit cautious when other single
00:15:04four on the first guard hit it so we're expecting this rain to be light initially but we'll last
00:15:10seven to ten laps and also if you're Max Verstappen on the soft tyres which I think are starting to fall
00:15:16away a little bit here a change to intermediates in the next couple of laps Bernie Collins wouldn't be
00:15:21the worst thing on the planet yeah it's a difficult call for the drivers and the teams out there Crofty
00:15:26because if you go to the intermediate and then you have to come back for the dry that's two pit stops
00:15:31that's 18 seconds of pit stop 36 seconds in total so you could lose if it's only 10 laps
00:15:38three seconds a lap and still be better on the dry tyre that's what they're wrangling but as we've seen
00:15:43on the radar very very briefly there's a period of 10 minutes then a little gap then another period
00:15:49of five and it just keeps appearing behind so it's a big big call on the pit walls to be made down there
00:15:54shortly I think it's more about Piastri trying to build a safety buffer margin for him to deal with it
00:16:00because if you look at Max's last lap he did a personal best right and so the tyres I think are
00:16:05are doing okay the soft Piastri is the one who lifted his pace by four and a half tenths on the
00:16:09last lap so I think he's the one who thought I just want to just have a little go here that might need
00:16:15changing as and when Gabriel Bortoletto pits and that has been noted that incident with Lance Stroll
00:16:21by race control but not passed to the stewards yet the gap has come down between Verstappen
00:16:26and Norris the gap has increased out in front to nearly four seconds between Piastri and Verstappen and
00:16:32he's almost Lando Norris got the advantage of DRS Charles Leclerc is a lot closer to Isaac Hadja but still no
00:16:39chance to get past into turn one he's had two potential moments where he can get past let's see
00:16:45what happens at the end of the next lap when the rain might be arriving here at the circuit here at
00:16:51Zandvoort where Piastri leads from Verstappen and Norris Hadja and Leclerc George Russell has
00:16:57got out of the DRS range behind Charles Leclerc Lewis Hamilton still within one second of George
00:17:03Russell and then a gap opening up to Liam Lawson and eighth Carlos Sainz's birthday it is tomorrow in
00:17:09ninth and his teammate Alex Albon who made the best start of all up to tenths on that first lap
00:17:14concentrate on the battle for fourth at the moment Isaac Hadja career best qualifying starting fourth on the
00:17:20grid Ferrari think they've got better race pace than the racing balls they know they need to clear
00:17:24them as soon as they can though I think Lando now needs to clear Verstappen pretty quickly he's within
00:17:30four five tenths of him so he should have DRS for the first time Crofty on this lap and the gap to
00:17:37Piastri 4.2 this is if we get a bit of rain and these changeable conditions there's still opportunities
00:17:44for Lando Norris and he's got to clear Verstappen here look took him 18 laps 12 months ago it's going to
00:17:50take him a lap longer unless he can hang it out around the outside Verstappen's got the inside
00:17:54line Norris manages to squeeze past that was brave and that was committed and that was absolutely
00:17:59necessary for Lando Norris who moves back up in the second place beautiful move didn't waste any time
00:18:05there to seize the opportunity this is the Lando Norris that we want to see fighting Verstappen first of
00:18:11ball and the first opportunity but look they've gone for the hard tyres so do Aston think it's not
00:18:17going to come the rain's not going to come well is this get those hard tyres on now get them up to
00:18:22temperature and we'll be better off on a track that might be getting slightly damp on new tyres that are
00:18:28warm than intermediaries nice job let's go get Oscar or old tyres that are warm it's a big gamble but when
00:18:35you're running pretty much last you can afford to take it but I tell you what Corrine they'll be
00:18:39watching that the strategy teams with a lot of interest Sonoda and Antonelli battling away for 11th
00:18:45place and we can look once again at how Lando got past Max he came from a long way back and you can
00:18:51see just staying on the racing line under braking gave him the grip then Max was very fair with him he
00:18:57didn't squeeze him out wide onto the dusty part of the track gave him the room the McLaren all weekend
00:19:03long has been better than anyone at term one Lando was two tenths quicker in qualifying just to that
00:19:08corner and used all that grip to just confidently drive around the outside but I'm using a very
00:19:14unscientific radar here look at the commentary box so the grandstand opposite of the commentary box
00:19:20no umbrellas or ponchos going up yet the rain's not started as yet it's still t-shirt weather in the
00:19:26grandstands but they're hardy souls here on the west coast of uh hollands and there was Kimi Antonelli
00:19:32hand me a little look at Yuki Sonoda into turn one but just missing out uh once more the uh Mercedes
00:19:37driver who of course finished in 10th place at the last race in Hungary he's trying to get into the top
00:19:4210 uh here but he needs to clear Yuki Sonoda first trouble with this track you either catch somebody by
00:19:50surprise because you're way faster or you make a move into turn one and that they there are your two
00:19:56options and the move into turn one unfortunately for the drivers today they've got a tailwind which
00:20:02makes it trickier you know the braking becomes trickier when the wind is pushing the car from
00:20:07behind but also means the slipstream effect is less powerful than if you had a headwind like we did last
00:20:12year so yeah it is a challenge certainly is now Isaac had just had the challenge of keeping Charles
00:20:19Leclerc at bay for uh the race in its entirety so far there's your DRS advantage round about 21
00:20:26kilometers an hour by the time you get to the end of the straight the trouble is the straight's not
00:20:30quite long enough there uh for Charles Leclerc Norris has just dropped Verstappen like a hot potato
00:20:372.5 2.6 seconds already cropped to the cap the new fastest lap for London London Norris got the
00:20:44message from his engineer Will Joseph let's go get Oscar on the last lap four tenths faster than Oscar
00:20:50Piastri yeah so if Piastri is managing to a certain extent he can't afford to do that uh for the entirety
00:20:57of this stint and he might have to give it a bit of Oscar Piastri hammer time-esque uh lap after lap
00:21:03before the pit stops no rain as yet but we're told it's coming and it's going to be a little bit
00:21:08light Aston Martin are aware of what the weather radar has said they've told Lance Stroll that rain
00:21:14might be coming but they are the team that have pitted so far and have put a new set of hard compound
00:21:19tires on and I think pretty much committing Lance to a two-stop strategy here one stop is probably what
00:21:26most of the teams are going to go for two stop is faster on paper and when the rain comes it could be a
00:21:31three or four stop who knows yeah the two stop is faster if you're driving around by yourself yeah
00:21:38but then as Charles Leclerc no once again he needed about another 150 meters of straight
00:21:44to try and close up but he's doing a beautiful job of illustrating why the two stop won't work
00:21:48as well because that's what will happen if you do a two stop at some stage you'll get stuck
00:21:53behind a car going slower than you on a one stop and I think Leclerc on pure pace is probably
00:21:59four or five tenths a lap faster than Hajar but he's just stuck there and that's that's a shame
00:22:05because actually I'd be interested to see if Leclerc can challenge Verstappen I think the Ferrari's got
00:22:10some pace here and another fastest lap of the race for Lando Norris and he's now 3.8 seconds behind
00:22:16his teammate Oscar Piastri who continues to leave Bernie Collins down to you yeah just to pick up on what
00:22:22Corinne was saying there Crofty between Hatcher and Leclerc that just goes to show that the four or five
00:22:27tenths of car piece isn't enough you need a tire delta as well so those on the two stop need to go
00:22:33early enough to get the undercut done I'm a bit scared about water letters by the way it's nothing
00:22:40copy so would somebody tell the stewards please I'll tell you what I'll do it myself that was a message there
00:22:45to raise control from Holly Pearman just in case they'd missed it very clear message there Crofty
00:22:52wasn't it but yes you need to go early enough to get the undercut done but in that final stint that
00:22:56all-important final stint when you need to get overtaken you need enough car pace advantage and
00:23:00higher advantage so something in the region of five to six laps at least chasing Yuki Tsunoda for
00:23:0711th and the chase continues and the chase will continue maybe for another lap as Kimi Antonelli
00:23:13closes up to within two or three car lengths of the Red Bull in front of him lap 13 of 72 Oscar
00:23:20Piastri six wins this season so far he's already set a record for the most amount of wins by an
00:23:27Australian in a single season and his next win will take him to nine in terms of career wins and that
00:23:33will equal Karin Chandok his manager Mark Webber and they can have a drink to celebrate I'm sure later on
00:23:40tonight we're just seeing on our timing screen where we get all the information from the stewards and
00:23:45from race control track surface slippery in sector 15 has the rain arrived yeah they also confusingly put
00:23:53the same message up when debris falls so if Portoleto's front wing has fallen off we would get the same
00:23:59message which I don't know why they just can't type D-E-B-R-I-S but anyway we'll see this is the part of the
00:24:05lap where they're coming to we'll say if the rain is falling I mean it's not far away from where we're
00:24:11standing Croft in the commentary box and at the moment outside the window I'm not seeing raindrops
00:24:17it's definitely not looking wet on the track as well but it is definitely where the rain is coming
00:24:22and here is Kimi Antonelli coming again and there's Yuki Tsunoda defending once again he's got the march on
00:24:30Antonelli and maybe he's using just a little bit of extra electrical power extra energy to offset the
00:24:37DRS advantage that Kimi Antonelli has got to protect that 11th place but while all this is happening
00:24:43it's allowing Alex Albon to open up the gap a bit and be a bit more comfortable in 10th place let's
00:24:47look at Lance Stroll yeah there is a bit of debris there and that is a bit of front wing that he's run
00:24:53over yeah so that that's that's what it is um as I say it's it's a bit confusing on the messaging
00:24:59screen but um one thing I was just seeing on the speed traps Crofty on that last night despite Antonelli
00:25:05having DRS and Tsunoda not having DRS they were only one kilometer apart on the straight so it does
00:25:12seem like perhaps Antonelli doesn't have enough of a straight line speed advantage with DRS open
00:25:19to get past the the red bull and that's the problem that's why he's stuck and it's allowing
00:25:23Alonso to to come along with him uh 15 laps so we're on lap 15 we've completed 14 laps here that
00:25:31means Isaac Hadj has now completed 33 laps in his uh formula one career in its infancy it has to be
00:25:37said it's only his 14th race uh in the top four position he'd done uh 19 uh before today
00:25:43and I've got a few drops of rain on my visor says Oscar Piastri his teammate Lando Norris is now three
00:25:52seconds behind him it was 4.4 seconds when Lando Norris got past Max Verstappen on lap nine so that's
00:26:00how the gap has come down in the last six laps yeah so I think this is now where it's going to start to
00:26:07get interesting if that rain does come for seven to ten laps is the pace going to drop off last time
00:26:14around it didn't seem to suggest that the conditions have gotten too bad a 15-4 for Piastri 15-0 for Lando
00:26:22showing that there's still grip in the track pit window is open if you're on the soft compound tire
00:26:27which is what Max Verstappen is on he is lapping at the moment a second slower than Lando Norris he's
00:26:32lapping seven tenths slower than Oscar Piastri that's where the front wing fell off and Ollie
00:26:37Behrman can stop being scared now um he has been noted for driving in an unsafe condition Lando
00:26:43Norris has run over that debris as well you can so easily pick up a puncture if there's bits of
00:26:48carbon fiber on the track and in fairness Ollie Behrman you know that radio message earlier about
00:26:54getting Bortolello changes wing you see the point don't you because that that carbon fiber we saw
00:26:59Norris running over it that can ease as you say put a cut in the tire and you know you'd hate for
00:27:06that to happen to one of the title contenders at Gasly and Colopinto swap positions we saw the
00:27:11Argentine get past his teammate he had the soft tire he had the advantage in the opening stages but his
00:27:16tires are starting to drop off a little bit as well and here's here's something that's quite interesting
00:27:22come the tense Charles Leclerc slower than Isaac Hadja on this lap and he's being told at the moment to start
00:27:28lifting and coasting a little bit just to keep your engine temperature under control because he's
00:27:33been running so close to the racing balls for the entirety of this race so he's got to balance that
00:27:38hasn't he oh there's Zac Brown doing the old-fashioned trick of trying to actually feel what the weather's
00:27:43doing instead of looking at the radar um so they're light droplets isn't it it's not
00:27:52it's nowhere close to being enough at the moment to switch to intermediate tires uh last time around
00:27:58the two McLaren is both doing a 15-2 which shows the pace is still there in the circuit yeah do you get
00:28:05the feeling that the Piastri has has managed it enough and is happy at the moment and is thinking
00:28:10right i'm just going to keep three seconds buffer between me and my teammate here because that keeps
00:28:14him just out of the undercut threat and i haven't got to stress my tires and push too hard that's as
00:28:20close as Antonelli has been throughout this entire race to Yuki Simona and it's still not quite close
00:28:25enough to try and get past the uh red bull Bortoletto is under investigation for that front wing that
00:28:31disintegrated itself on the left hand side after contact with Lance Stroll and still Antonelli uh drives
00:28:37around in 12th place he's having quite a race yeah uh to your point on on Piastri i think let's not
00:28:43forget Lando spent his first two three laps just letting the tires come in gently and that that pays
00:28:50you dividends in the long term Piastri went for it early on to try and open the gap to to Verstappen and
00:28:55make hay while the summer shining early on with Lando stuck behind i think you're right i think he's
00:29:00gone through a little phase now where he's just let the tires just settle a little bit and he's found
00:29:06himself a comfortable pace to just hold Lando at that three second gap the way this is going as
00:29:12well about another seven laps time Oscar Piastri has probably got a pit stop uh window to get out ahead
00:29:20of Max Verstappen probably probably less like so i would imagine Verstappen want to come in a bit uh a bit
00:29:26more a bit sooner so that that two stop strategy i think is open for Oscar Piastri if he wants to put
00:29:33maybe a bit earlier and that's still come out not in traffic i think McLeod can do whatever strategy
00:29:39they want and win the race what what they want to do is be fair to both drivers and give them an equal
00:29:45opportunity uh you know what in Budapest they gave them different strategies and it was it set up a
00:29:51cracking race but they they want to be fair to both drivers give them an equal chance they don't want to
00:29:57let one undercut the other or gamble on one you know i think they will go safe in terms of giving them
00:30:03equal chances yes the strategy team is hard at work on the pit bull as you can see our strategist is
00:30:08hard at work and raise control Bernie Collins yes Crofty i'm trying to be as hard as work as i can i think
00:30:13you're right that the Claire or Piastri versus Verstappen in something like 10 laps would have the gap but the
00:30:20current rate of improvement over Verstappen so that is wonderful both veterans have been told their
00:30:26safety car window is open for dry tires so both of them they even they think now if they had a safety
00:30:32car they would switch to the dry tire and they would definitely come out of Verstappen in that
00:30:37situation so the pit loss is about 18 18 and a half seconds under normal conditions it's about 10 seconds
00:30:42if we have a safety car or a virtual safety car Bernie just to come back to you you know we're coming up
00:30:47now to near enough lap 20 do you think they could do 52 laps you know now if you how early can you
00:30:56pit to put on a hard time go to the end you think you see here the Aston Martin your old team they've
00:31:01committed with Alonso so case of point do you think he can go to the end i think there's a good
00:31:05chance he can go to the end i think what they're hoping for is that even these light showers will slow
00:31:10the track down a little bit so it'll naturally a better bit of management i think in McLaren's case
00:31:15they're thinking if you have a safety car five or six laps of a safety car it's a nice gentle
00:31:20introduction for that hard tire and it's not quite the full 52 laps of recent speed it's more like
00:31:2645 46 47 i can see lots of people in the grandstand in front of you now Corinne getting a jacket on
00:31:31getting a hat on this is definitely going to start to affect the track a little bit it started on row one
00:31:37and it's now just it's like a poncho wave and i know how the tires how's the pace yeah it's starting
00:31:44to struggle a little little bit more now with the rears it's like a poncho wave as more and more fans
00:31:49are now putting their jackets on lando norris was a tenth slower than oscar piastro on the last lap the
00:31:54gap now 3.4 seconds starting to struggle just a little bit with the rears uh he said is that because
00:32:01he's just pushed a bit too hard yeah i think i think if we heard oscar radio and comments might
00:32:10be similar really you know they're running similar pace on they and we see sunoda coming off those
00:32:14soft tires going out of the heart he's going to have to wait to be released because he had two cars
00:32:19coming down so that's going to cost him 3.2 but that some of that loss was having to wait for the
00:32:24sauber to go past now this is all reacting to fernando alonso uh he made his uh pit stop and he's got the
00:32:29undercut and we had the advantage over these guys anyway colopinto comes in and also uh uh
00:32:35hulkenberg comes in too in the sunado something in the sauber with them reacting to fernando alonso's
00:32:40pit stop there's your rain you could just see some light drops falling uh right behind uh the pit walls
00:32:47here okay so he's not playing the piano that's an impersonation of great but sunoda's lost out alonso
00:32:53alonso has jumped in there her position obviously stroll they rolled the dice didn't they with a
00:32:59very early stop 11 laps ago so he's effectively jumped both of them although he's going to
00:33:07struggle for tires at some point it might have to do a second stop 33 laps i think the the hard
00:33:12tire that was the medium last year did in last year's race can you get closer to the car i had
00:33:17i can give you a touch might be the next suggestion from will joseph that i'd like you to uh to try a bit
00:33:25yeah last year uh the uh hard tire which is the medium this year did 33 laps maximum uh during uh
00:33:31the race so that might be a little guide as to what we can get out of this year i don't know what
00:33:37bono says to kimmy antonelli these days or maybe he still says hammer time but this is hammer time for
00:33:43kimmy antonelli in his race against sunoda and alonso they've chosen to stay out and extend
00:33:48on that set of medium tires so uh he's got a 5.2 second gap to alex albon and this is his opportunity
00:33:56in free air to try and use up some of that grip he's not responding uh necessarily by the way while
00:34:01we're talking tires this is the 500th world championship round for pirelli tires who were
00:34:07there at the first round silverstone may the 13th 1950 i think they supplied all four alfa romeos
00:34:13who won and all four maseratis as well this is their 500th happy anniversary pirelli and at least
00:34:20they're going to get a race win on their anniversary too guaranteed success well done to them uh no it's
00:34:25it's a huge commitment to the sport right to be around for the celebrating 75 years of f1 and for
00:34:30them to have been around for so long that is a a big commitment so we talked about charl leclerc backing off a
00:34:36little bit from isaac hadja keep his engine under uh 10 temperatures under control lewis hamilton
00:34:42still right on the tail here of george russell has been uh throughout here and whilst not necessarily
00:34:48looking for an opportunity or having that opportunity to get past he is still keeping george russell very
00:34:55honest here and pushing as hard as he possibly can down currently in seventh place yeah i mean the
00:35:01ferrari does look like a better car here definitely have to undercut these guys it's hard to get closer
00:35:12so will he be coming in uh in a few moments time i wonder if he is then they'll be getting ready in
00:35:18the garage now because he's only got about three corners to go the undercut i think has been super
00:35:22powerful bernie collins you've been keeping an eye on alonso's lap times what do you reckon yeah alonso
00:35:27a little outlap after he did on that pit stop was two seconds a lap faster than the one before now
00:35:33the one before was obviously in traffic the problem for hamilton is his pit window is not
00:35:37particularly clear he come out ahead of gasly and behind antonelli is that the place that ferrari
00:35:43want to drop him i've gone with leclerc yeah leclerc gets the priority because he was the lead ferrari
00:35:50driver hard tires go on it's uh certainly used tires but i think ferrari have scrubbed their tires so
00:35:55they're not it's not a used tire that's done an awful lot of mileage so far there's rain around
00:35:59as you can see on the lens and lewis hamilton has gone into the barriers on the exit there of turn
00:36:06three and while we were talking about the rain and the influence it might have in this race that's
00:36:13going to be a safety car at the very least that's going to be a safety car that is that is going to
00:36:18there we go so this is firmly in the pit window look at the two mclarens are making their way around the
00:36:23final corner now and mclaren say if we need to double stack we will definitely double stack yeah
00:36:28because that's what you have to do watch the time gap in the top left that was down at three look at
00:36:33it's already edged up to nearly five seconds and that's lando giving his pit crew time to do the
00:36:39double stack for leclerc this could work out quite well because he's obviously pitted and depending on
00:36:46how you know how it plays out with the traffic this could work out well for leclerc let's have a look
00:36:51double stack for mclaren go oh no they didn't get the front jack away in time lando norris got held
00:36:57up a little bit more i don't think this is going to work out well for leclerc at all i i think it's a
00:37:02lap too early and sadly for him it's his teammate that's caused the uh safety car in comes max
00:37:07verstappen as well to get rid of those soft tires in comes hager russell's also going to come in and
00:37:12whilst they're making their stop charles claire is at a reduced speed going around the track and can't
00:37:19close in on these guys that he was trying to stay ahead of and he's going to lose a lot of places
00:37:24here yeah you're right he's going to lose to russell and probably to lawson it's going to be very tight
00:37:29here's lawson on the left and there's the clear on the right so keep an eye on that that's the battle
00:37:34we're looking for science is in as as lawson comes out there goes science now and charles claire goes
00:37:41through uh turn one and whilst the pit lane exit does feed you on the inside of uh turn one charles
00:37:47the player should stay out right what happened to lewis hamilton it's slippy here the rain we saw in
00:37:52the pit lane and it's falling a bit harder now and he's gone wide he's gone wide and oh it just loses
00:37:57the rear and that's the end of that yeah just had a snap of oversteer in the middle part of the corner
00:38:03we ended up running wide but then just seemed to sort of understeer on the where the the camber
00:38:09of the track flattens out are you okay yes i'm sorry guys i wonder if that paint is just a bit
00:38:17wetter than the asphalt itself i don't know i mean they're using that paint pretty much every lap that's
00:38:24become the the racing line and yeah you can see when lewis got wide up high bernie and i were walking
00:38:30there this morning you could oh he went i think the lando train yeah he went before the the jack had
00:38:36been removed yeah now but he only would have gone if he had got a green light yeah we need to see
00:38:41that from the onboard don't we to see the green light exactly but just for lewis the way the track
00:38:45is coffee you've got that high banked part of the actual track then it flattens out across the top
00:38:51and i wonder if when he'd gone so up so wide up high whether the car sort of bottomed out because
00:38:57he seemed to sort of understeer into the wall quite slowly yeah you know at that point it was a bit
00:39:02odd is uh is he all right front check yep all good well that's good to hear as well and the advantage
00:39:14for lando norris is that he might have lost time in the pit stop but he's not exactly going to lose
00:39:18time behind his teammate because the safety car and we're all going to concentrate together so for oscar
00:39:22piastri that lead has now gone in terms of the time advantage he's got a position advantage but
00:39:28that three second three and a half second lead has gone when we can get racing again verstappen has
00:39:34gone on to the medium compound tire everyone else is on the hards verstappen running a different race
00:39:40so once again lando norris when we get going again has got max behind him on a what should be
00:39:45supposedly a faster set of tires isaac hadja stays in fourth george russell moves up to fifth charles
00:39:51leclerc lost a place uh to six then lawson signs ocon who's up to ninth and who hasn't pitted yet
00:39:59albon who's 10th and antinelli 11th sunoda big loss fernando alonso lost out to his teammate lance
00:40:05stroll and ollie bearman has moved up as well and he like his teammate hasn't stopped in this race yet
00:40:12so has have rolled the dice with orcon haven't they they've just left him out there to see
00:40:16what happened and for bearman as well to see you know they'll extend and try and pit late i i like
00:40:22what red bull are doing with max because the reality is he's got nothing to lose he's going to have
00:40:28protection from hajar behind him let's be honest i know they can't officially have team order they can't
00:40:34collaborate he's got pace protection yeah exactly that you know hajar is not exactly going to go for a
00:40:39lunge on max's happen is he so will um yeah i like what red bull have done what do you think bernie
00:40:45yeah i do think the red bull have taken some bold decisions here maybe they think they're better on
00:40:49the soft tires than others and they were good that they've held on on that initial soft tire to get
00:40:54all that weight in the safety car just having a look at sort of who won and lost out of that
00:40:58leclerc did lose position to russell so russell ski in the position over leclerc and finally
00:41:04how did hamilton crash did he go on the green and the green was slippery because of the rain
00:41:10uh yes it looked like exactly that he went wide of the white line onto the green slippery at the wall
00:41:17yeah but then you should tell me tell me earlier like this is a race ending bit of information so
00:41:24yep okay cool and i think that's a fair point safety cars ending at the end of this lap so bernie
00:41:31yeah quickly the number of drivers have been told exactly that right information that the paint is
00:41:35going to be slippy in these damp conditions finally norris did get a green light so he reacted correctly
00:41:42to the green light it went but the jack had not been fully removed from the front of the car
00:41:47and we could maybe just quickly show you that actually uh bernie because we've got the onboard footage
00:41:51uh before the safety car period ends this is lando coming in and you'll see the red will turn to
00:41:59green away goes in the jack yeah hadn't been pulled away so it's not blander doing anything wrong that
00:42:03green light shouldn't have come on at the pit stop right karen you ready for some more racing yeah at
00:42:10what point does piastri go you can see them weaving around trying to get temperature into the brakes and
00:42:16tires he now controls the pace the safety cars shot off does he launch himself on the exit of turn 13
00:42:26does he go now before turn 13 he's slowing it right down you can see the safety guard still coming through
00:42:33the final corner he's gone he's gone before 13. i i think that's wise as well just to try and catch people
00:42:40by surprise a little bit and also try and get some energy through that banking into the tires that are
00:42:46going to be a bit cold and the williams there of alex albon has got a really good and carlos sainz too
00:42:51have got a great start here comes isaac had had you under pressure from george russell had you
00:42:56managed to hold him off lawson manages to hold off carlos sainz and there's contact between the williams
00:43:02and the racing bulls piastri still in the lead from norris carlos sainz has lost out a couple of
00:43:07places lawson lawson is going very slowly indeed as around the banking he's passed by one two cars
00:43:14and sainz tumbling down the order so those two have had a coming together and it has cost them dear
00:43:20yeah they made contact on the exit of turn one and one of lawson picked up a puncture there but look at
00:43:25verstappen on those medium tires he's fired them up the track temperature has fallen down to 25 degrees
00:43:31and the hard tire will take an extra lap or two to get that same performance fine drizzle down the
00:43:37pit straight i'm being told so the track not getting too wet but still these conditions greasy and
00:43:44slippy for the drivers as antoneli gets past dock on who along with his teammate bearman has not stopped
00:43:50in this race so far or during the safety car period alonzo overtaken by sunoda he's lost out 12th place
00:43:57as the red bull moves ahead of him and lawson and science now running right at the back and their races
00:44:03were looking promising but not now eight tenths the difference between piastri and norris the two
00:44:08mclarens out in front max verstappen is trying his best to close but he's outside the drs uh range and
00:44:16will not get the advantage of that rear wing opening unless he can get his foot down a bit more on this lap
00:44:22yeah i think oh there's someone there's somebody been off i would imagine so i wonder if that's a
00:44:28lawson or a science uh moment we we saw them tangling earlier on but has someone gone off
00:44:34a bit further on and kicked up a load of dust you certainly wouldn't want to be driving over that too
00:44:39often no that's at the kink i mean it's a completely comfortably flat out part of the track turns four
00:44:44and five but yeah something a bit odd going on there um lance stroll has ended up into the points
00:44:50trophy remember he pitted first of anybody in that group now he's got to try and see if he can hang
00:44:55on with those hard tires to the end but lance stroll who's had two crashes so far this weekend and here
00:45:01comes liam lawson yeah might be about to salvage it you never know lawson and science into the pits
00:45:07yeah rear left the rear left tires off the rim completely there so soft tires are going on as well
00:45:14for the racing balls it's a front wing change nose change for science in the williams
00:45:22he struggles to get a clean weekend in carlos science this it's really disappointing uh to see
00:45:27but let's have a look on board now with science as i say the two williams got the jump really on the
00:45:32cars in front of them which put science into this position and then lawson just moves across
00:45:37and his science has got nowhere to go really yeah it's a sort of classic two into one doesn't go does it
00:45:43you know lawson he's sort of taking the line trying to edge sites out um and at some point
00:45:51they're going to make contact there he's just so stupid oh my god this guy is always the same guy
00:45:57oh and you can see the extent of his problems there um so disappointing for carlos science and well you
00:46:07can see the extent of liam lawson's problems he actually lost uh his uh rear left tire meanwhile
00:46:13gabriel bortoletto is going to be uh investigated after the race for driving in an unsafe condition
00:46:19not a surprise that's from earlier on where he tangled with lance stroll who is now up into ninth
00:46:24place after stopping early another safety car really helped lance stroll keep those hard tires
00:46:29on to the end of the race and look at oscar piastri on this lap 2.1 seconds the gap now between himself
00:46:37and lando norris talk about getting out drs threat as quick as you can he really has done that and
00:46:43meanwhile there goes carlos sites bits of williams bodywork flying up in the air as he powers down
00:46:49the straight and gets the move on lawson done by the time they get into turn one which will bring the
00:46:53huge side relief of because he doesn't want to be uh going past lawson in a narrow part of the track
00:46:59once again yeah lawson's got a long and painful afternoon coming up because he's now going to do 42
00:47:03laps 43 laps on a set of soft tires because they have no other tires left yeah they've only got softs left
00:47:09yeah he has he's used the medium he's used the hard and now he's just got to drone on and oh george
00:47:14russell having a little look into nine but hajar covering him off tell you what we've had a few
00:47:22overtakes but we have had a race so far and we're only on lap 30 that has not been short of incidents
00:47:28and we've lost lewis hamilton for his first dnf as a ferrari driver after running into the barriers on the
00:47:35exit of turn three and george russell uh having his say on isaac haja's uh defense and where we've
00:47:46seen oscar piastri leading from the start we've seen lando norris lose second place to max mustap and
00:47:52then get it back again and since the restart piastri has had the pace advantage but norris is starting to
00:47:58reel him in once again and here goes kimmy antonelli trying to make a move on alex albon and unlike yuki
00:48:04sonona i was going to say albon not putting up as stubborn a resistance but look on the exit
00:48:10albon's got back ahead of antonelli there so he'll have to try again oh frustrating afternoon for the
00:48:16youngster who celebrated his 19th birthday last monday yeah he he's desperately trying to get some
00:48:22points on the board isn't it you know his momentum in the season before the summer break went away a bit
00:48:27and he's trying to recover that this is the move that uh science would have been hoping to make on
00:48:32lawson before they had the contact yeah unfortunately now they're battling for 18th and 19th place and
00:48:39the incident has been noted where they collided at turn one after the safety car resumption lap 31
00:48:47can piastra in norris go we've got a virtual safety car we'd imagine for debris on the track yeah
00:48:52so the race just gets neutralized drivers drive to 40 percent of their racing speed and the gaps
00:48:59should stay the same and that's exactly why fluttering in the breeze a very expensive piece
00:49:03of carbon fiber that well someone could pick up return back to uh mr j val's uh courtesy of grove
00:49:10williams hq uh somewhere in oxfordshire yeah and it doesn't it didn't we have that here once before
00:49:18where we had some debris that stayed on the track for quite a long time it was the mirror of cattle
00:49:22wasn't it yeah but didn't we have it here as well i think possibly i can't remember we would try and go
00:49:27to the end on this our decision will be if to add a stop but the goal should be to get to the end well
00:49:32there that answers the question i was just asking there carun can they go to the end so willando norris
00:49:38that's what they want to do but he's made he did quite well going for a long time with a set of
00:49:43tires in hungary yeah and all this time under the virtual safety car or the safety car you know bernie
00:49:47was explaining earlier the early laps going slowly or these laps going slowly they just help to extend
00:49:53the life of the uh of the the tires there so marshall retrieving into great applause from the grandstand
00:50:01and we should see racing get it going vsc ending imminently and we'll get a green flag for the
00:50:06drivers to get going straight away i i have to say coffee isaac hadja is driving a super race isn't
00:50:14he like you know he's taken on a lot of pressure first from george from charler now george russell but
00:50:21look at these two they're absolutely together on the restart well charlacler has got one part of his car
00:50:28alongside george russell has gone on to the gravel is getting his elbows out as best he can what a move
00:50:34that was from charlacler george russell fought that and fought as hard as he possibly could be but
00:50:39leclaire was fully committed was not backing out that was brilliant from the ferrari driver he's up
00:50:45into fifth place but now russell is coming at him oh that was a very late move by charlacler to block off
00:50:52george russell has he stayed ahead only just but russell's gonna come back again out of turn one
00:50:58and they're giving absolutely everything these two and somehow leclaire is staying in fifth place
00:51:04very opportunistic there from charlacler great defense from from him as well down at turn one
00:51:10managed to stay in front but i think it was coming from george getting a poor restart you can see
00:51:16haggard got going russell then dropped back into the clutches of the ferrari and really brilliant
00:51:22opportunism around the outside i don't think i've ever seen a successful move of two cars a little bit
00:51:28of wheel banging but that that was a really really good bit of overtaking from charlacler yeah nice one
00:51:34charlacler got the position back he lost by pitting just before the safety car yeah while we were talking
00:51:39about that carlos science has been given a 10 second penalty for causing a collision you can tell me
00:51:45about that and your thoughts at the moment as we watch a replay here drs zone and both drivers did
00:51:51have the the drs and the claire it's like no i'm gonna send this lick it send it post it thank you very
00:51:59much yeah he doesn't let the space so he cannot complain well let's see if he does what has the world
00:52:09come to but pre-empting the complaint now as yeah russell getting yeah i don't think he was yeah i just
00:52:23think look look always be on the white line there actually not when not when he overtook him he wasn't
00:52:30yeah at this point he's still behind but did he leave the track and gain an advantage well he will
00:52:35argue that george didn't give him racing room on the on the inside uh this is antonelli and album
00:52:41which we saw on board uh with kimmy antonelli uh where he lost out but on that occasion he's actually
00:52:47made the move stick so antonelli moves up at a seventh yeah he left the track did he gain an
00:52:52advantage because he was carrying a greater speed into that chicane as a result no i'm thinking more
00:52:58about the racing rules in terms of in terms of rights to racing space or you know yeah but i'm
00:53:03thinking that you have all four wheels off the track at one stage yeah but it it's in an overtaking
00:53:10move isn't it so i don't i i think he might have to give that back because he was i'm a community he
00:53:16was all four wheels off the track typically if you've executed a move with all four wheels off the track
00:53:21you'll have to give that place back what's the best thing he can do to not give that place back
00:53:26maybe put another car in between himself george russell i think that's what he's trying to do
00:53:31yeah and then i'll and just pull five seconds gap and try and i'll get the toss later on i've got a
00:53:35yellow flag somewhere i'm just looking to see who's moving slowly and i don't see anyone moving
00:53:40slowly have we got a bit more debris on the track i wonder not sure on the on the science penalty i'm not
00:53:47sure about that i saw that as both drivers could have done more to avoid yeah the incident really you
00:53:54know carlos was there he was alongside if you look at how albon and antonelli handled the turn one you
00:54:02know wheel to wheel battle they gave each other room and i think both lawson and carlos need to
00:54:08share a little bit of blame for that so it's a surprising penalty for me too but yeah analyze that
00:54:13the sky pad later uh while we're discussing that 1.7 seconds the gap is now 1.5 seconds the gap
00:54:21out in front and charlaclaire is coming at you if you're isaac hadja who's running the top four and
00:54:28has done a very very good job so far but he's got a fast ferrari behind him and with drs he's gaining but
00:54:35not gaining enough uh to make a pass into turn one lando with the field spread it's unlikely there'll
00:54:44be opportunities our best set is just go get it straight out race so are they saying now forget
00:54:51the one stop strategy if we've got a field spread we might be able to find you a gap we might be better
00:54:57off pitting once more or are they saying no the opposite i think they're saying there's no spread
00:55:02of of the gaps to to do something different in terms of strategy so your only chance is to pass on track
00:55:09because we can't really do anything different in terms of strategy which is not great if you're
00:55:13trying to manage tires then is it and go uh definitely towards the end i think that's why we
00:55:18have that double yellow there's a bit of mercedes flew off and onto the uh the track someone will
00:55:25clear that way for the back look there's some other bits so there's quite quite a bit of day
00:55:28for it out there actually that becomes even more when other drivers uh go over it well done to the
00:55:34three marshals for collecting as much as they possibly could excellent move 1.4 seconds at the end of lap 36
00:55:44and on this lap oscar piastres is pulling out a bit more of an advantage over lando doris so are we
00:55:50we thinking both mclarens to the end stopping uh without stopping again unless we get a safety car
00:55:57and looking at those dark clouds i wonder if we are going to get a bit more rain i think everyone's
00:56:01going to try and and run to the end you know the first one who could be in trouble could run our tires
00:56:07is stroll you know we know that the has cars need to pitch because they haven't yet got off those hard
00:56:12tires so you know i i think that that's the that's the sort of thing you know the first the first eight
00:56:19cars are in a position in terms of tires to go to the end so the racing as well joseph was saying will
00:56:25have to be done on track in which case then uh don't go anywhere make yourself comfortable ladies and
00:56:31gentlemen because uh by the end of this race i'm sure the two mclarens might be a little closer
00:56:37together and it's going to be a bit nip and tuck between the blue skies in part white fluffy cloud
00:56:45over some of the circuit darker grayer clouds uh moving in too it's a it's a typical zandvoort day and
00:56:52isaac hadja is uh closing in on the car in front of him which is max verstappen fernando alonso is
00:56:59closing in on the car in front of him which is the other red bull of yuki sunoda i say he's closing in
00:57:05on uh max verstappen it's a second the gap between verstappen and how is balance on the hard pipe
00:57:11i don't know you put me always in traffic i don't know yeah don't talk to me about balance talk to
00:57:19me about getting myself out of this drs train um yeah the hadja thing is relevant because he might
00:57:26be losing the drs assistance behind max verstappen here which is not going to help and his fight with
00:57:32charles claire who's also just backed off a little bit so we also wonder if that engine's getting a
00:57:36bit hot yeah i think i think the mclarens are sort of managing their pace in a comfy zone aren't they we
00:57:43we saw before the stop they were consistently between four to six tenths quicker than verstappen
00:57:50but now in this stint you know the staff is sort of hanging on two and a half seconds behind them
00:57:56in this undercut all these people i don't know do something yeah don't worry we're discussing yeah
00:58:02the trouble that fernando's got is his problems have been caused by his bad start where he lost four
00:58:07places on the opening lap lots of undercut them and do what most of them are running to the end
00:58:13the two has cars are the problem they're stuck there so he's frustrated he's got more pace he's a bit
00:58:19frustrated frankly that sunoda is not passing bearman because alonso is losing his race time
00:58:25being stuck there behind sunoda who in turn is stuck behind bearman so what he needs is sunoda to get
00:58:31on with it at least yeah or he needs to pass sunoda somehow and here we go well sunoda might be having
00:58:36a go here ollie bearman on the inside and just about holds off the threat of the rebel into turn one
00:58:45sunoda's got a decent exit though as they make their way towards the banking of turn three but
00:58:49you're going to be brave if you're going to take a low line there and make a pass and that's not what
00:58:53sunoda did he probably lost out in the end in terms of the gap to bearman widening and the gap to
00:59:00alonso then closing as a result of that it was was it a bit half committed there from yuki sunoda he
00:59:07he was in position to keep his foot in go around the outside he didn't do it yeah and i'm a little bit
00:59:12surprised with that to be honest you know you look at the he's got a 19 lap tire advantage over bearman
00:59:17you think of the way lando use that line use that grip to go around the outside of for stopping earlier
00:59:24you know that's the sort of move that you need to make around the outside of of turn one because
00:59:28there's camber on the road there's a bit of banking there not as much as turn three but you have got some
00:59:33banking to help you i mean lando did a brilliant job to use that to pass max and sunoda sort of failed
00:59:40out of it there didn't he that damage that george russell has picked up uh with the contact with
00:59:44charlotte claire which by the way is being investigated now by the stewards it's starting
00:59:49to cost him time antonelli's closing in on russell uh here comes sunoda once again and there goes
00:59:54fernando alonso once again and alonso a lot later on the brakes there than yuki sunoda was and there's
00:59:59only about two car lengths between
01:00:09you
