00:00If you're going to be the Man of Steel, you might as well cut with it too.
00:03Here's your look at the Dallestraw Studio Forge Superman Knives.
00:13And a big thank you to the folks over at Studio Forge that did provide two samples that we would have a look at.
00:19To celebrate, of course, the Man of Steel's success on the big screen,
00:22we're going to be looking at both the Superman Collection two-piece set of the Chef Knife and Pairing Knife,
00:26and over here as well, we're going to be looking at their Bread Knife.
00:30Each of them, as you can see, though, are packed in these glorious-looking, classic-looking Superman boxes.
00:35Of course, you've got the Man of Steel there flying up to the top, and an officially licensed DC product.
00:40Studio Forge is a new creation studio from Dallestraw,
00:43where they're exploring the space between functional art and collectible blades.
00:48The boxes themselves are very similar to one another.
00:50Of course, you can see with the Bread Knife, though, it's just that the Superman is flying towards,
00:54whereas this one here has Superman flying up.
00:56This side of the box does have, of course, the advertised knives.
00:59And on the back, breakthrough culinary tools.

01:46Now, we're going to go ahead and open up the knives.
01:48I've already taken the liberty of removing the wrap.
01:51And with the wrap now removed, let's check out the blades inside.
01:54The blades themselves, actually, the boxes themselves, are consisting of a sleeve.
01:59So we're going to slide that off just for right now.
02:01We'll maybe put it right over there.
02:02Then getting a closer look at Superman here.
02:04We're going to just bring up the camera.
02:06These, by the way, do have a magnetized closure.
02:09So you just open up the side here like that.
02:11What we'll do first is we'll look at the two-piece chef knight and paring knife.
02:14And what's really neat is, though, the inside of the box has Man of Steel.
02:18Superman, of course, flying with Metropolis behind.
02:20It also comes in clear with an instruction booklet.
02:22Just a where and how to.
02:24All the things you should really know before you start handling knives.
02:27You also, as well, let's just put this down here for a second.
02:30Get yourself a couple of stickers.
02:32Dalseron did include, in fact, a white sticker and a black sticker.
02:35And both of them, again, are peelable labels that you can just stick on whatever you need to stick them to.
02:40I'm going to move those off to the side.
02:42You also, again, get yourself the instruction booklet, Breakthrough Culinary Tools, Care About Booklets.
02:47Now, the actual blades themselves do require, of course, your traditional caring when it comes to knives.
02:53A whetstone certainly would be advised when it comes to sharpening.
02:56They are hardened to 55-plus HRCs, Dalsrong D3 sharpened at 9 degrees to 13 degrees,
03:02and trusted high performance of 14,116 German steel.
03:09Forged from high carbon for a German steel and rated at 95, 55-plus Rockwell hardness.
03:17Painstakingly hand sharpened at 9 to 11 degrees per side,
03:21maintaining the perfect balance between blade, sharpness, and maximum resilience.
03:26Taper ground and stone-polished blade.
03:28Tall blade height gives knuckle clearance and assistant to assist with food preparation and chopping activity.
03:35Stain-resistant for easy cleaning, laser-etched Dalsrong logo, and full tang for incredible robustness and quality.
03:44Let's put that off to the side.
03:46One thing I really liked also about these blades, too, and actually both of them have this,
03:49is that they also come in clear with a pin.
03:51The pin itself is situated, of course, inside the bag.
03:54We're going to open up the bag right now.
03:56One thing I do also really like about the pin, if I can actually open this.
04:01Truth be told, though, I haven't even opened up the pin yet.
04:03I want to kind of keep it sealed.
04:04Maybe there isn't...
04:05Oh, there it is.
04:06I wasn't really looking.
04:08I'm just going to open up the top of the bag here.
04:10And one thing I do really like, as I was saying before,
04:12is that the pins also serve as a magnet.
04:16There we go.
04:17I'm only really going to open up the one,
04:19because the bread knife is also going to have the exact same.
04:21As you can see, we've got Superman and Delsrom.
04:25Now, they have also as well branched off their plan to do Lord of the Rings,
04:28Game of Thrones, and in fact, they're also doing Batman.
04:31When they reached out to me, I certainly said,
04:33especially with, again, the popularity of Superman right now,
04:36that I really wanted to look at the stuff for the Man of Steel.
04:38Of course, it does have a pin on the back.
04:40Being that it also does have a magnet,
04:41it does make this for a much heavier pin.
04:44But you can see the amount of craftsmanship that just went into the pin alone.
04:49Let's move that off to the side.
04:50So, the blades themselves, like I said,
04:52we're going to open these up at a time, one at a time.
04:55The much smaller knife, the paring knife, as you can see,
04:57does have a really nice leather sheath.
05:00The sheath itself, if I can tilt it to the side,
05:02does have the Delsrom logo,
05:04and it also does also have the DC logo there, too.
05:07Some nice stitching of red also sandwiches the two halves of the leather sheath together,
05:11and it does also have the Delsrom pin right on the back
05:14that also does have a snap.
05:16So, we're just going to open that up.
05:17So, I'm sure I don't have to tell you guys, though, this,
05:19that obviously with these being blades,
05:21you're going to have to be careful that you're not going to cut yourself in the process.
05:25Pulling out, though, the paring knife,
05:27showing you guys what that actually looks like.
05:29It is sharp.
05:30So, for obvious reasons, I'm not going to run my finger along it.
05:33We've got, actually, Crypto, if you can see,
05:35flying across the cityscape of Metropolis.
05:38There's the Daily Planet there in the background.
05:40Dal-Strong.
05:41I want to make sure I keep calling it Dal-Strong and not Strom.
05:43And, of course, you've also got yourself the DC logo in the far corner there as well.
05:47I'm going to carefully, though, hold this.
05:49You've also got yourself the Superman logo.
05:51Now, the logo is something that's going to be found present
05:54on actually all the pieces that we're going to be having a look at.
05:57What's really good, though, also about these is that the actual handles are palm handles.
06:02So, they're high and pervious to both water and heat.
06:05They are ergonomic.
06:07So, when it comes to certainly holding them, they feel comfortable.
06:09It's not like, I mean, obviously, I don't know if I have plans to really use these in the kitchen
06:14because of the quality and the look of them.
06:16These are actually more so kept as collectibles, something I'm going to have on display.
06:20But the ergonomic handle certainly does feel more comfortable,
06:23even though there is a fair bit of weight on the back of the handle itself.
06:27So, there you have the paring knife.
06:29So, we're just going to put that off to the side.
06:31And, again, I do want to fully express this, that this is extremely sharp.
06:35So, what we'll do is maybe just put it off to the side here.
06:39And, while we're also at it, though, let's also grab the chef's knife.
06:42Now, the chef's knife is also similar in the way that they've designed the sheath.
06:45You've got a swooshing effect.
06:48Perhaps Superman has flown across this.
06:51And, of course, you've got the logos there featured on the top corner.
06:53On the other side there as well, Dal Strawn.
06:56And, there's also the snap.
06:57So, we're going to, again, carefully open this up and pull this out.
07:01I was actually wondering, though, if it would have been easier if they had used, say, a magnet instead of a snap.
07:06But, I think a snap probably is a more safer bet to make sure that the knife is securely in there.
07:12You don't want to accidentally have this open up.
07:14Or, you don't certainly want to keep this far away from kids as best as you can.
07:18We're going to just carefully pull back out the blade.
07:21There we go.
07:23You may even be able to hear.
07:25That's a good German steel that they are using here.
07:29I really like the look, though, of the chef's knife.
07:31On the one side, as you can maybe probably see for yourself,
07:34it has Clark Kent.
07:35And, he's taking off his suit, transforming into Superman.
07:39That's really neat.
07:39That's actually, of the blade designs, this one is my favorite.
07:43Still, you have the Superman logo there.
07:45Spin this around carefully.
07:46And, then, we've got Man of Steel.
07:47We've got Superman flying there, too.
07:50I would certainly say, if you guys do get the chance,
07:53check out, head on over Dal Strawn's website.
07:55And, just have a look at the blades that they have available.
07:58Again, like, ergonomic in design, you've got the palm handle.
08:01So, it does feel good to the hand.
08:03A lot of weight here in the back of the handle.
08:05Not as much weight, though, to the blade, obviously,
08:07for where the materials were more situated.
08:09But, it does feel for a more comfortable knife.
08:11I know we don't tend to look at really knives here on this channel.
08:14I will say, though, it does have a good balancing feel to it.
08:18Just, again, be very careful with the blades.
08:21Underneath, actually, the blades themselves,
08:22there's some good storage space, too.
08:24So, there's a place to put away the blades.
08:25You don't have to put them in your drawer.
08:27These would definitely be more, at least in my house,
08:29more set up as a design, as more of a collectible piece.
08:32Something I'm going to put on display.
08:33Something, for obvious reasons, I'm going to keep away from my daughter.
08:37So, that is the chef's knife and the paring knife.
08:40I'm going to move that off to the side here.
08:42For the safety reasons, obviously,
08:44I'm also going to take the knife,
08:46I'm going to slide this back into its sheath,
08:48and we're going to close up the snap here.
08:50I just want to make sure, though, that nothing is in the way of things.
08:53I do really want, again, push the idea.
08:55Keep blades like this away from kids.
08:59You really do have to check out some of the elaborate pieces
09:01that Dallestrong has also done, as well.
09:04They've done a Fortress of Solitude.
09:06They've also done one, actually, for Batman.
09:08And those pieces look just amazing.
09:10If, again, you are one that likes to collect knives,
09:13it certainly is a good collection.
09:15A good place to kind of jump off and start collecting.
09:18Now, let's move our focus over to the bread knife.
09:21And, again, this is an 8-inch bread knife.
09:24Again, it's got itself a sleeve,
09:25so we're going to slide that off right now.
09:27Nice box art there, Superman.
09:29Same as though the sleeve.
09:30There's a nice, well, there's an image there on the side
09:32showing what the bread knife is going to be looking like.
09:34And it also gives you all the details on the back, as well.
09:37A 16-degree edge serrated teeth,
09:40Dallestrong D3 sharpened,
09:42and it's also got, again, a genuine leather sheath.
09:44Anti-stick blade,
09:45high-resistant to wear, tear, and corrosion.
09:48And you've got the Dallestrong Lion Shield conditioned
09:50on the top there.
09:52So let's go ahead, again, open this up.
09:54It does have the magnetized opening.
09:57And like we did before,
09:58it does also come in clear with a couple of stickers.
10:00We'll put the stickers off to the side.
10:02You get, as well, still the same pin.
10:05And just to show you guys, though,
10:06it is the exact same pin.
10:08I don't know if I would necessarily wear this as a pin,
10:12just because, again, the weight that goes behind this.
10:14But, but, that it does have a magnet on the back,
10:17this is something I'm probably going to be putting on my fridge.
10:20I think that's going to look really nice.
10:21So we're going to open up the box here.
10:23We have our instructions.
10:25And we also can pull the blade out.
10:29Now, this is sold individually,
10:31unlike the paired we looked at before.
10:34Dallestrong, again, you've got the logo there on the top.
10:36We're just going to unsnap that.
10:39And carefully, carefully pull the blade out.
10:42This being also a bread knife,
10:44there's more weight, I feel, with this.
10:46Actually, I kind of feel like the handle's a little heavier, too,
10:49than the chef's knife that we looked at before.
10:51Both of them are eight inches,
10:53so the length of the blade is going to still remain the same.
10:55This is also serrated.
10:57This is neat also that it adds,
10:58it's a bird, it's a plane.
11:00No, it's Superman.
11:03I'm going to be avoiding, obviously,
11:05to run my finger along this.
11:06We're going to be careful,
11:07because this is a very sharp blade.
11:09A whetstone is definitely most advised
11:11when it comes to sharpening the blades.
11:13But when you do get these out of the packaging,
11:15you'll notice right away that these are extremely sharp.
11:18Again, you've got a good weight to the handle.
11:20It feels comfortable in hand.
11:22But it does have a really nice finish to it.
11:26I like that they've found a way
11:27to pair the Superman blue in there as well.
11:29And though red really doesn't make much of an appearance
11:31other than just the Superman logo on the back,
11:33it is a really nice piece.
