00:00We actually start out with Mahina, who had a little bit of a sneaky kind of traffic.
00:05I don't know if she was going to win.
00:07She seems like she runs similar races all the time.
00:09She's a horse who needs some pace to run at.
00:12She's going to sit back.
00:12She's going to launch one late run.
00:15She's multiple graded stakes placed, but she hasn't really won any of these big ones.
00:20No, and she has not even hit the board in six starts in Del Mar.
00:24That's funny.
00:24I had the very similar thing written down.
00:26She runs a very similar race every time, kind of in that mid-80s buyers.
00:31I don't think it's going to be good enough in here to do much.
00:33Maybe hit the board, like you said.
00:35Public Assembly is still lightly raced with some upside.
00:38She's a grade three winner.
00:39She finished second in the yellow ribbon.
00:41Really, when you look at her recent form, the only bad race on the page is the gamely
00:45when Be Your Best probably outclassed that field.
00:48Here's Public Assembly in the yellow ribbon.
00:51She was in the two paths.
00:52She was in between horses early.
00:54She ends up winning a battle here for second and for some of the minor awards.
00:58She wasn't going to win.
00:58She was chasing lone speed, but she's solid in here, Scott.
01:03The problem is there's a lot of horses that kind of look similar on paper or like they're
01:07not separated by all that much.
01:09And then there's one or two new faces that look like they may be the standouts in this
01:14race.
01:14I have no problem with Public Assembly.
01:16I'll probably have towards the bottom of Exotics, but I need a little value, I think,
01:20to play her in here.
01:21Well, the problem is, as much like it was last time you mentioned, lone speed, the favorite
01:26taking them all the way in the yellow ribbon, there's not a lot of speed in here at all.
01:30I mean, it's going to be a very similar race shape, but I'm not sure.
01:34Fifth start as a four-year-old, she's been in the Chad Brown barn before, if she has that
01:38move forward in her.
01:39Yeah, and she's not fast.
01:41In her last two races, she's lost to horses who have been on the lead in lone speed.
01:46Mission of Joy is a multiple graded stakes winner.
01:49This course, I've tried to get to a couple times recently, Scott, because she has some
01:52back class, but she is just one for her last 13.
01:56Can she get back to some of those races from, you know, the first half of 2024 when she was
02:02really in good form?
02:03I don't think she can, would be my answer.
02:06I was a big fan of this filly at the time.
02:09Saw her race at Churchill when I was there once, and she was just better.
02:13I mean, she was forward a little more last time than I think she wants to be.
02:16We talked about the race shape, you know, you can maybe make that case for her, but it's
02:21going to be a similar race shape today, or in this race.
02:24She's a little bit wide, but I couldn't find as many excuses.
02:27Maduro just looks really well spotted in here, Scott.
02:30When you're looking at a group of horses that are all kind of similar, and maybe not that
02:34exciting, and they don't really jump off the page to bet, Maduro's form overall is just
02:39good.
02:40She's never been worse than third.
02:42She's multiple grade one play.
02:43She's a grade three winner, and the real key, she had been off, and she made her first
02:48start as a four-year-old, and it was really good.
02:51It was basically her best career start.
02:54You feel like she can step forward off of that.
02:56She's got some versatility.
02:58There's just so many things to like about her, and in a field where a lot of the other
03:03horses are just kind of okay.
03:05Yeah, she struggled to put races together in her career, too, and to an extent, nice to
03:10see that she was able to kind of come right back off of what was probably a prep for this
03:14spot in the osinitis, which is a restricted special weight, or not a special weight, but
03:19a restricted stake.
03:20She should be forward to an extent in this field, and she likes this turf course.
03:24Not a lot to hate.
03:26Yeah, likes Del Mar, proven at a mile and an eighth.
03:28We move to hopeful.
03:30She wins in her first start in the U.S. back in June.
03:33Then in July, she had a brutal trip.
03:36Now, you could take two things, right?
03:38Tough trip doesn't mean she's going to win this race, but it was kind of a no-chance trip.
03:42She was like wide and in between horses, and just put a line right through it.
03:47I think it says something that the connections want to come into this spot.
03:50Mark Glatt, who's been kind of raising his game to one of the top trainers in Southern
03:54California the last few years.
03:56What do you think about hopeful in this spot?
03:57Well, you could definitely make an excuse for a last, but you got to all quote wonder about
04:01the quality of the field she faced.
04:03It was like a six-horse blanket finish, basically, and it was Baltic Fire, who we'll get to shortly.
04:08That was 57 to one, and really had nothing on form to show you that she was capable of
04:14really winning that race.
04:15So, hopeful to me, that trip might get her over a bet, but she makes a little sense.
04:20Yeah, I kind of thought she could maybe hit the board here, but would need to see more
04:23to get a win from her.
04:25Kentucky Gal, on paper, looks like one of a few horses that might be forwardly placed in here.
04:30At least in tensions, with Edwin Maldonado aboard, who's a speed rider, and with the
04:35blinkers aboard, with Phil D'Amato having four, I feel like he's got to pick one of his
04:39charge that's going to want to go towards the front end, and maybe it's this one, Scott.
04:43Why wouldn't he want to go with this Churchill filly?
04:45There's not a lot of speed at all in here.
04:47She's been not able to make a lone lead going further distances, which normally wouldn't
04:52be sharp enough to get you to the front.
04:54But with the blinkers on, three other horses, and Maldonado, I think she's on the lead.
04:58Probably not good enough to win, but she can hang around.
05:01Give me another, came from South Africa, was undefeated, seven for seven when coming into
05:06the U.S., has not won, but has finished second three times in four graded stakes races here.
05:12This is a pretty solid effort.
05:14I think it would bind with the big turf course in the long stretch.
05:17She may have got a little lost out here on the front end, Scott.
05:20Feels like a very good spot for Grand Motion to ship her in to Del Mar this weekend for
05:25a graded stakes.
05:25Yeah, I remember her coming in for her first start at Tampa.
05:28She's run really good races, but the problem is she won all of her races in South Africa
05:33and none here.
05:34So I don't know where that puts her here in this spot.
05:36She's going to take quite a bit of money, I think.
05:39Baltic Fire was that long shot winner at 50-1, Scott.
05:42I got to make her prove it this time, back to back.
05:44Absolutely agree with you.
05:45That feels like last time was the time.
05:48Hang the Moon is a multiple graded stakes winner.
05:50Had to shake off the rust off an eight-month layoff, but I would have liked to see a little
05:54bit more from her because I didn't think it was that strong of a field.
05:57I don't really know the quality of the horses she was beating either in those graded stakes.
06:01I agree.
06:02I think she might get a forward somewhat trip from that outside post, but another one that
06:06I don't think is quite good enough.
