00:00Scott, what is always exciting about these races is getting to see horses that are future stars of the sport.
00:05These are for the two-year-old fillies and horses that you may be seeing run in the Kentucky Oaks next year.
00:11And most of the time in Southern California, these races with young horses are dominated by Bob Baffert.
00:16And that is the case, again, in here.
00:19Baffert has won this race 11 times.
00:21He has three really live contenders with Explora, with Amica, and with Bottle of Rouge.
00:28So those three will be major, major players.
00:31And what makes it tough sometimes for us as handicappers and gamblers, Scott, a lot of the Bob Baffert runners are fast horses.
00:39They're talented horses.
00:40They're bred well.
00:40They get out of the gate quickly.
00:42So when you have a race where there's two or three of them and they've shown speed, sometimes it's hard figuring out which of the ones is going to get the lead
00:51because they're probably not all going to line up against each other in battle for the same trainer.
00:56Right.
00:56I mean, I think some people overthink it at times, think that there's a plan, but I, you know, especially with very young horses,
01:02but there has been times where it definitely feels like there's intent from some and not the other.
01:07In this field, I would think they all want to get out of the gate well as a pretty little lightly race.
01:12It's tougher with these young horses to do that, right?
01:16Because you want to play these, you don't necessarily play games.
01:18You don't, you want to be teaching these horses the right way to run early on when they're so lightly raced.
01:23Explora was very good.
01:26Scott earned a big figure, got to the lead and just cruised in that debut.
01:30What do you think about her in here?
01:32Well, it tells me a lot that Baffert's willing to bring her back on three weeks rest, August 17th, right?
01:37I mean, he does not somebody to rush them back in here.
01:40Modest female family from what I could find.
01:42He got 350K and ran like it, took advantage of an inside draw and was easily best.
01:49And you feel like Juan Hernandez probably could have had his choice of the Bafferts because he was aboard all three of them winning.
01:55And he ends up on this filly down on the inside.
01:58But Hamika is actually the most proven of anyone in this field, Scott.
02:03She's a great at stakes winner.
02:04She's won twice.
02:05And she has shown us she can sit off a little bit and pass horses if need be.
02:10It's always something that's important with these younger horses, just knowing that they can be behind horses and overcome that if they have to.
02:17She's the clear one to beat.
02:19$900,000 purchase.
02:20We're recording this before the morning line is out, but she is going to be hammered, I would assume.
02:25But one thing to note, you talked about how many times Bob wins this race.
02:28It's normally or recently has not been with the same filly he's won the Sorrento with if he's one point.
02:34Executive privilege is the last in 2012.
02:37You know, it might make me look foolish, but I think she's worth taking a swing against at her like the price.
02:42I agree.
02:42We move to Forliness, who was super impressive, came from 10 plus lengths out of it.
02:48But that was against a much softer group of horses who would have to step up huge in this race to compete.
02:53$32,000 maiden claimer into a grade one is ambitious.
02:57Maybe you can make the case that she just sits back and passes half the field or something,
03:02but came through the rail last time with a big setup against way lesser at 8-1.
03:08Tough one.
03:09The four Grandma Mary comes out of the very same race with Bourbon and Ginger, the number seven in here.
03:15I thought they both ran pretty well.
03:17Bourbon and Ginger was involved in the pace a little earlier on, was battling.
03:21And then the horse that you see kind of angling out, that's Grandma Mary.
03:24Grandma Mary looks a little bit green and will add the blinkers.
03:28I think that will help for her.
03:29But I could take either one of these horses and take some positives coming out of that race, Scott.
03:34The four Grandma Mary.
03:36What I do like also, she shows she can sit behind horses and kind of loom up.
03:40She might get a setup in here.
03:41Yeah, she adds the blinkers.
03:43So we'll see if that's the plan or not.
03:44She had a huge gallop out in that race.
03:47This is a full sister.
03:49This is the third time the Ruiz family or Ruiz Racing has kind of bred the same filly.
03:53Neither of them have been quite where this one will have to be to be competitive here.
03:57Bottle of Rouge had a good start most recently and was able to just crush and win by six.
04:04What's nice is that she won at six and a half furlong.
04:06So she actually has a victory going farther than anybody in this field has, Scott.
04:11She's bred to want to go even further.
04:13She's bred to want to be two turns.
04:14But I would still say based on the money she took at Santa Anita, maybe that's a bad read that she's considered the lesser of the Baffert in this spot.
04:23But that's been a faulty way of going about things in the past.
04:27We've heard the other Baffert has won this race a lot.
04:30We have a lot of Wally for Mark Glatt, who won first time out and did it very professionally, sat nicely, moved, didn't get the big kind of speed figures that some of the others have in here, more workmanlike.
04:42But I don't really have anything to knock.
04:43It's just that this is a tough group.
04:45Well, they ran early in the meet and they clearly were pointing for this spot, was able to relax.
04:49Those are the positives for this one.
