Trinidad and Tobago's footballers put in their last training session today as they get ready for their CONCACAF World Cup qualifier against Curacao on Friday 5th September. Coach of the team Dwight Yorke is confident about his chances on home soil ahead of the match. He believes he has gathered his strongest possible team.
00:00Well, coach of the Trinidad and Tobago football team, Dwight York, says the team is ready for their all-important CONCACAF World Cup qualifier against the Curacao tomorrow.
00:09He's done his research on his 86th ranked opponent and they've put together their last specific session geared towards rehearsing their strategy.
00:17We've been prepping for this particular day. Of course, minus one before the game, there's not much else to do apart from fine-tuning one and two things, tweak one and two things as we say in football.
00:27But pretty much the work is done and then obviously the excitement about tomorrow.
00:32Nervousness?
00:33No, not at all. I'm more excited because if you're not going to get the buzz or be excited about what is up on us tomorrow, which is a very crucial game at a very critical stage for us, the World Cup campaign, we know what is at stake.
00:47It's a high demand, high risk, high reward. And so the players understand that. You will see in the numbers the country is behind us, which is ultimately important as well.
00:57So to have that support, I have no doubt and the confidence within the players that we are ready to go.
01:02Well, who would you like to see take the field for Trinidad and Tobago in the all-important World Cup qualifier against the Curacao?
01:08Well, Dwight York says he has a few players in mind, but he just wasn't willing to name them.
01:13Well, I'm definitely not going to tell you, but yeah, we have concluded on the final 11, but, you know, still 24 hours before the game.
01:22So there's a little bit of reluctance there because anything can happen. Of course, we still have, you know, another training session.
01:29So we're a little bit cautious about that. But in terms of me being clear about the team, then yes.
01:34That said, York says he has his strongest possible team.
01:38Now I feel that the top 26 players is available. I think this could be the strongest team I've assembled to this point.
01:44And it gives me a little bit of an issue, which is the right issue in terms of selection.
01:49You know, it's not an easy call on these players. So now we've got a real competitiveness among the squad, not only the 11,
01:55but knowing that they're the capabilities coming off the bench because we may have to win some games off the bench as well.
02:01Tomorrow's match takes place from 8 p.m. at the Hesley Crawford Stadium.
