00:00hello and welcome back to screen babble it's september which can only mean one thing
00:16more tv of course i'm your host kelly crichton and i'm joined by national world tv critic matt
00:22mohan hickson benji's currently moving house so godspeed benji we don't do that task i think
00:28he's moving into the bake off tent isn't he in that little bit at the back so you can just laugh
00:34yeah yeah uh matt's here to tell us what's hot and what we need to be cozying up to in the autumn
00:40evenings screen babble is a monthly podcast where we'll take you through the best in tv and film
00:46although admittedly we don't have a lot of film today but anyway um today we're looking at the
00:50return of bake off essentially essential viewing this time of year it's like a warm hug isn't it
00:57bake off this time earlier um and we also talk about streaming services always confusing and hard
01:05to tell where the best value lies so matt's going to take us through that um i know i'm confused about
01:11what to keep what to let go of and uh yeah we're going to look at some of the options and what's
01:16coming over the next few months as well in terms of big tv what's going to have the chins wagging
01:22um hi matt good to see you you must be breathing a sigh of relief now that the telly is ramping up
01:28for the autumn schedule 100 uh july i was glad i was off for two weeks in july i know it was it
01:35weren't good it worked bleak yeah yeah i must remember a little bit to um stockpile for the
01:42summer you know like keep something back for the summer because even though i ended up with about and
01:48this is no exaggeration the say july when i was on holidays for a couple of weeks and into august
01:53where i was kind of really busy i think i ended up with like 18 episodes of coronation street to
01:59catch up
01:59just turned into like coronation street overload when things started pointing down i was like
02:10doing two episodes a day or whatever remembering they're like an hour long and it's a soap so you
02:14don't really need that much of it in your life but anyway um but i kind of wanted to stay on top
02:19of it you know and there's some good storylines going on so yeah that's really pathetic but anyway
02:23so my summer was basically taken up by catching up on coronation street oh i can't believe i admit to
02:28that but anyway there you go so i'm cool um but yes yes so loads of good stuff coming we're going to
02:33talk more about that a bit later in the podcast but first bake off now question for you no cheating
02:40i'm sure you know this because you've probably written something about this but how how many
02:45how many years do you believe bake off has been running now i believe it is 15 i believe it started
02:51in august 2010 which is like mental like it's almost old enough to do driving lessons
02:56you'll be able to go back on tour like the first season yeah yeah yeah i think it would be
03:03so different now if you look back at that first series because i've got a total theory about how
03:09it's become really technical like really technical even that first challenge the first night was
03:14something else but you know i have a feeling like back in the first series it was like make an apple
03:19tart you know make a birthday cake you know make a christmas cake off of bread yeah you like fairly
03:24straightforward things or whatever and you know the the really flamboyant ones there was an awful lot
03:30of sugar icing stuff for years wasn't there like that was a thing for a few years but anyway by the
03:35way disclaimer i am not i mean i enjoy baking but i never do it like you know it's not my thing at all
03:42it's weird it's like food porn or something i don't know you're just like watching it being like
03:47it's entertaining yeah i'm i'm the cook in our house but i'm more the food cook like bakery i'm just
03:55like we don't have enough room i'm like i don't want to be rolling out door it's so messy
03:59yeah yeah it's incredibly messy and if i ever make my kids want to get involved and then i'm like oh god
04:07100 times worse and you end up with like stuff in the mixture that's not supposed to be in there
04:14you know i can let your let your imagination run wild with that but um yeah anyway so back to
04:19series 16 of the bake-off there's been a few changes in lineups since day one paul hollywood
04:28is the only original sort of host as it were host judge started off with mary berry didn't it and it
04:33was mel and sue yeah they were the they were sort of consistent for the bbc years i was surprised at
04:42how long no fielding's been on i forgot that yeah yeah yeah well i think channel 4 paid more
04:52money for it like i remember that it was a big thing at the time like the production company got
04:56a better deal with channel 4 so they hopped over oh so b b didn't actually dump it they just got
05:01no no no they got it stolen out from under them and that's why like mel and sue very very like quit
05:06at the time because it was like how dare you do this oh my god i can't believe i didn't know that
05:12wow okay right right right that all makes sense now okay oh i had some idea that mel stayed on for a
05:18couple of series but not it was um sandy sandy toss big oh yes sandy yeah and all first and then
05:27nolan matt lucas and now nolan allison hammond like he's been he's been there a long time now
05:33he has he has and um when we were talking about this last week i thought no it was kind of he was
05:40kind of annoying me towards the end of the last series and i was a bit like oh i don't know um
05:44but actually i they made me laugh out loud on on tuesday night they you know him and allison they're a
05:50good kind of combo like they both bring totally different things you know and she's just so
05:56jolly and kind of laugh a minute kind of person you know and and then you've got the whole gothy vibe
06:02off off knoll or whatever and the kind of um irreverence and stuff like that yeah i think that's
06:09why him and matt lucas didn't fully work they were too similar you can't have like yeah it's like
06:13having two pieces of the same cake at the same time like it's too much kind of yes that's a good
06:19analogy kind of um both vying for the same gags probably you know whereas allison and him are
06:24totally different and allison has a bit more of probably physical comedy well they both do a bit
06:29physical comedy that's good too but yeah so i actually quite enjoyed the intro the jurassic park
06:35homage did you i think i think mostly because i was like these intros are always terrible
06:41and and the whole i think um prue looked so like
06:48i was actually just impressed with that she just looked so like him it was weird
06:54um well i just thought for once the gag kind of landed i don't know with paul being you know
06:59but anyway if people haven't seen it you should go back and watch it even though it's totally cringe
07:03but i almost turned my tv off it just went on too long for me like it if it had been like that like a
07:09minute it would have been fine but it felt like it went on fast you know yeah when you think about
07:13the fact that they've got was it 12 contestants to get through and like you don't really get to know
07:18many of them in the first series first episode because there's just so many of them yeah but
07:23anyway right tell us anyway give us your thoughts um beyond that matt what what do you think of the
07:28contestants i mean there wasn't much new in terms of setup i mean it was the sort of what you normally
07:33expect like you know the three challenges yeah yeah like they're never going to change too much
07:38really i i was on another video this week talking about this and i think you can't now like if you
07:45change it up too much now it's not bake off and you know it's 16 seasons there's not much you can do
07:50to change up the formula really is there yeah yeah yeah people that don't want to watch bake off
07:55want to watch bake off they don't want to watch you know some weird version of bake off where they're
08:00i don't know cooking cooking on a castle or something yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah but no i thought it was
08:06pretty good it's like i think you didn't get a sense of everyone really because 12 is so many
08:12but like there was there was enough people that stood out that yeah yeah i felt really bad for
08:18was it hassan the guy like he just had like a terrible first day it was like he was a shame
08:25because one of the bakes he made like apparently the flavors were beautiful but he's it just completely
08:30collapsed you know and so so that was a bit of a shame but yeah he just kind of looked like he was
08:35on his way out from the get-go yeah it reminds me of uh my food tech days back in secondary school
08:42i don't know if i still do food tech these days but um it was christmas and we were doing swiss rolls
08:47and one of the girls put sugar into the flower in it and it just came out like flat like like his
08:54hands so oh no the trauma you'll never make that mistake again um yeah so i found one thing that's
09:03what two things that struck me actually were that less older people than usual
09:09yeah i think and you know i think i wrote down in my notes where are the nanas you know you use a few
09:15nanas in there and then um also and it was my husband pointed out and we were both fully in
09:23agreement that when they were introducing you know the way they probably introduced us to five or six
09:27of them kind of briefly and they were all like working in tech or they were engineers
09:32which goes back to supporting my theory about the whole it's got very technical you know over the
09:39years and that you've got these people that are i suppose maybe i mean there was one contestant who
09:45actually said she doesn't even eat the stuff she makes you know so it's like people are doing it for
09:51like a challenge like a like an actual physical mental challenge as opposed to the joy of eating
09:57baked goods you know which is kind of contradictory to what you think it would yeah you know when you
10:01talk about baking it's like baking it's not so yeah so i thought i thought that was interesting
10:12you know so i think again if you compared the kind of people that were applying and doing it
10:1610 years ago compared to now i think you'd see a big difference yeah not to say that
10:20that's good or bad you know i different isn't it yeah i think i i definitely sit there with the
10:26whole oh jesus i could never do that kind of oh yeah you know um some of the things that come up
10:33with i'm like are they secretly like 3d printing them like yeah printer in the background like i would
10:39they do in that on a swiss you know swiss roll absolutely yes some of it was phenomenal absolutely
10:44and i'm sure we'll see lots more um but it's it is always unfortunate there's always somebody that
10:49like it collapses or falls or usually more than one actually at this stage it's usually a couple
10:53that have a bad day but um yeah so look it looks like it's going to be um a fun series and yeah
11:00there was a lot of younger people i don't know what did you have any other takeaways from it this time
11:05around when did mustaches come back into fashion like every other person had a mustache i was like
11:11when did that happen it is kind of hipstery isn't it yeah taches are kind of hipstery and also you do
11:17find there's a lot of kind of hipsters on bake after i mean i guess it leads into the the technical
11:22side of it isn't it like you want to show off be kind of geeky and cool or whatever yeah um and show
11:28that you've got these skills um but yeah you're right about the taches for different would you like
11:34to hazard a guess for a winner should we should we do that for the crack maybe ian or jessica but
11:41that's just because they were mine two favorites in the first episode okay so which was jessica was
11:46she the hairdresser no no she was the one who was a drag king in oh yes yes yes yes um and ian was
11:56the young guy with a belfast yeah oh sorry that did the queen's university the other young guy with
12:03a belfast yeah the mustache not a belfast kind of both um yeah i liked natalia that won this week
12:13um i thought i thought she was really nice and i would be kind of rooting for her and who else did
12:19i like that one let me think um oh god it's hard at this stage because they're all so capable you
12:26know um yeah i thought that scottish guy tom oh yeah and that girl jasmine she seemed cool as well
12:34look yeah there's there's so many um yeah i i feel like cake week is always like i think outside of
12:41just you having a disaster in the tent you probably can do quite well because i guess if you're getting
12:45into baking you're probably going to make cakes aren't you like yeah as a place to start with
12:50yeah yeah yeah well you would think so but that would kind of strict our theory my theory true true
12:55true true yeah okay but before we go tell me tell me matt who do you who's your favorite bake-off
13:02contestant of all time oh of all time i am gonna go with a classic i'm gonna go all the way back to
13:08the bbc days and i'm gonna go with nadia um you know the winner of season five one of the last
13:14yeah it was just i feel like and her creations are like started that push towards how technical
13:23things came as well so she's so influential on the show and just you know she's been on tv ever
13:28since hasn't she so she's probably one of the most successful people i would think um off the back of
13:35it i mean not that many others spring to mind you know my favorite was giuseppe from 2021 i just
13:43loved him from the get-go he was just like such a likable person you know whether we like it or
13:48not there's a certain amount of like you kind of are drawn to people's personalities maybe more
13:52than their abilities yeah yeah yeah i just thought he was so nice and he was always very empathetic with
13:58his uh fellow contestants and yeah he was always just a cheery smiley positive kind of force and very
14:05self-deprecating you know so um all those things usually lead to a worthy winner okay cool okay matt
14:11you have been putting in the hard yards with our next feature yeah services um yeah it's all a bit
14:19overwhelming isn't it most of us have a budget for entertainment and dare i say there's probably
14:24not too many people out there who are buying all the streaming services at the one time so take us
14:30through the main players and the cast and why we should and shouldn't be interested in them
14:36yeah i mean i was quite amazed putting this together there's so many that i haven't even
14:42heard of before like all this like it's it's it's just mad i haven't heard of britbox i don't know what
14:48britbox is oh we used to talk about that a bit in screen babble when we first did it because
14:52steven steven who was one of the hosts had britbox and he used to watch an awful lot of like old
14:58comedies on us so that's kind of what i would say it's best for potentially but yeah go on sorry yeah
15:04sorry um yeah so we'll start with the classic the the most famous one of all netflix now the price
15:12of netflix has definitely gone up since i first had it which was showing my age was about 2012 when
15:19i first got netflix when yeah it was all just like jaws 4 and uh breaking bad was about eight like it
15:26was yeah it was a very different but anyway yeah so do you remember when netflix was a dvd hire
15:32company i remember love film do you remember that one that was the amazon version and like you get
15:38one you get one for um you'd have to wait like like years in advance to like yeah i think netflix
15:46yeah netflix was subscription so you got like three or four dvds a month or whatever and they'd send
15:52them you in the post and then you'd send them back i mean it's wild but anyway i don't know if
15:57people remember that that was like the early 2000s but anyway sorry so netflix yes it's increased
16:02a lot right okay so what are we paying these days so you it starts out with 5.99 but that's for the
16:08advert version which has also has like doesn't have quite everything as well okay there's a few
16:14short finishing from that um and stuff then you get up to i think it's 12.99 for the normal standard one
16:22right then 18.99 for the if you wanted in you know hd and okay downloads and all that sort of stuff
16:30and then obviously you have to pay extra to have people uh use your account if they don't live in
16:37the house with you if you share with your family i uh i had to get a new netflix account because
16:42it was like registered at my parents house and they got it through virgin media or something and
16:49they couldn't add those yeah yeah you're you're you always hear these stories about people like
16:54breaking up and stealing people's netflix passwords and using their their account for months
16:59afterwards and stuff like that hilarious i think like netflix is obviously just absolutely full of
17:06stuff so like yeah you'll never not you'll never not find things on netflix and all of all of them
17:13there's never a discussion to get rid of netflix in our house you discuss other things but netflix is
17:18it's it's too um robust it's got a lot of stuff like yeah and they're just like a fire hose aren't
17:25they like anytime i look at like what's coming out in a week in netflix it's like oh my god i couldn't
17:29write yeah about it yeah although i was saying there was a kind of a dirt of stuff there in july and
17:36august it was really quiet you just kind of dig for it haven't you a bit like uh triple big
17:41yeah yeah yeah you're right yeah yeah and so obviously there's loads of stuff there's lots of
17:52really really good and big shows coming back on netflix this year so we've had wednesday we talked
17:56about that last month we've got the final season of stranger things coming over the course of
18:01november and december which was very exciting uh a recent one i don't know if people have watched
18:07yeah but worth watching is hostage yes i watched it i watched it i enjoyed that i felt like a
18:15throwback for like the bodyguards if anyone was yeah i i thought it started really strong really
18:21good and it petered off i was kind of disappointed in the last episode i was like yeah that all wrapped
18:26itself up very quickly you know there's often i'll be and i've complained about this a million times
18:31um that they stretch things out too long like we're watching another thing channel 4 in flight
18:36with katherine kelly and that's eight episodes and like you're like eight episodes my god does it need
18:42to be eight episodes whereas hostage was five and i thought it probably could have been eight you know
18:47yeah or six at least yeah so anyway just my take on things but it is definitely worth a watch so yeah
18:52it's yeah it's good fun like i said to my partner that it felt a bit like a 90s tv show like the
18:59politics if you thought about the politics in that show for a second it was like what's going on here
19:04yeah you're right you're right you're right yeah it was kind of touching on there was an element of
19:09you know that um show that russell thingy did um oh yeah yeah dystopian future vibes about it wasn't
19:20there um not quite not quite as outlandish as years and years okay right anyway what's next apple
19:27apple we've got apple tv that's really simple it's 9.99 a month i think if you get like a new
19:33iphone or at least again i haven't got a new iphone since the pandemic but during the pandemic you used
19:38to get like six months free if you bought a new thing so i don't know if you're still doing that
19:41but like i did not a new tv this year actually we bought a tv couldn't tell you what brand it is
19:47um but it's not an apple tv but we bought um a new tv and we got six months of apple which was great
19:54because i'd kind of like all these series on apple that i wanted to watch so we've got so we're like
19:58cramming everything into the six months of free apple you know trying to get all of slow horses
20:03watched ted lasso yeah and there's a few other kind of classics the morning show we haven't started that
20:08yet but we're going to do that yeah you know there's really sort of big titles that oh severance
20:14as well there's big titles that obviously we couldn't watch because we didn't have it before but
20:18yeah sorry no um and i think it's a bit different these days but like you know originally it was
20:26like okay you're willing to pay because the shows are really high quality there isn't a lot of stuff
20:30although now there is quite a lot of stuff like they've got because it's their own catalog they're
20:34not you know licensing in like friends or you know the office or anything whereas i think now in
20:402025 there is actually quite a lot like you were saying like there's what the sixth season of slow
20:46no fifth season of slow horses yeah fourth season of morning show there's yeah no just i think that
20:52um apple will be one of those ones that you might drop for a year and pick up again when you know
20:58because they don't have that back catalog that you're like netflix does or whatever like you know
21:02once you call whatever you want yeah yeah okay yeah that's got some what slow horses come in this
21:09month um the recently finished show smoke with um taron egerton who yeah uh what was it kings
21:17yeah yeah he was in the elton giant wasn't he yeah really fun show like a fun fire mystery thing
21:25okay um yeah and severance as you mentioned um yeah that's all the s's apparently
21:30and then obviously disney plus we've got disney plus that's like netflix that has like about three
21:38different tiers that you can subscribe to so there's 4.99 the cheapest which is adverts
21:42then this uh 10 pound one and a 12.99 for the you know the ultimate whatever package
21:50column you know where you can just download and good one for kids because you do have the back
21:56catalog of disney films you know which is you know lifesaver stuff but then also there's weirdly a
22:03lot of like shows for adults on there as well like you get a lot of the american shows don't you
22:08like only there's in the building and yes there's the was it the twisted tale of amanda nox at the
22:14moment yeah like that so that's it's pretty good so it just reminded me of all that and as a side
22:21note i was talking to my partner and she's from spain i was like oh yeah you know amanda nox the
22:26meredith kirchner thing she's like no i was like really no you don't remember it like it's like no
22:31it's such a media bloke thing wasn't it everyone knew it like you know like madeline that um that
22:39actual series was produced by amanda nox yeah and guess who else do you know you see it's someone
22:46like gwyneth paltrow someone no monica lewinski monica lewinski that's it clinton's aide who there
22:53was the big sex scandal over remember so it's like these two scorned women these two yeah you
22:59know not scorned women like no done wrong by yeah demonized women totally totally totally interesting
23:05though i haven't watched it so i would like to check that out just to see i kind of got i was like oh
23:09this might be a bit biased but anyway aren't they all okay next amazon prime amazon prime um so
23:17a bit like apple tv there's just like a static price for amazon prime which also includes
23:23the amazon prime delivery so you get like the tv and the delivery so like yeah you're probably buying
23:29it for the delivery and then you just get the tv oh yeah yeah exactly that's i think that's how most
23:32people but we were talking about this briefly the other day and i was saying it's pretty frustrating
23:39with amazon prime because oftentimes you'll go in they'll be like yeah we have willie wonka's
23:43chocolate factory or whatever and then it's like 5.99 please so like we don't really what am i
23:49paying for you know what i mean also there's like a mess of like add-ons that you can add you know
23:54add-on channels and so it'll look like something's in amazon prime but then it's like oh you have to
23:59subscribe to mgm plus i'm like what is mgm plus and they do that they do that all the time with the
24:06kids stuff as well where they're like would you like to play this song and they're like yes and if
24:11they're if they do it on alexa they take that as consent to purchase and you're like whoa no no no
24:17we're not purchasing we're not purchasing so you have to be really careful with amazon they are like
24:22cowboys when it comes to like adding stuff on and charging you for extra things and you know but
24:27anyway um i guess if you read the small print it's probably fine yeah to be fair and just similar to
24:35what you said about the you know things then you have to buy and rent i find the amazon prime app just
24:40really rubbish like i think it's really hard to grow there's some good stuff on there though so
24:45jeff bezos if you're listening i know you're a big fan of the show and there is some good stuff on
24:50there um i quite liked the assassin with keely horse that came out and had freddie highmore
24:56that's uh she's like a a retired assassin living in um greece and it's it's it's pretty fun like it's
25:04pretty fun did that was exclusively on there yeah i've seen that it feels like a show that should
25:10have been like a bit like hostage feels like a show that should be like i like her yeah yeah
25:16and then yeah we've got coming up we've got the spin-off of the boys if anyone still watches that
25:24called gen v that's out this month that's the university one which is quite good it's yeah
25:30very similar to the boys um so did you get the odd biggish thing then as well on amazon yeah yeah
25:36they spend money down there yeah yeah yeah well they certainly have enough of it so yeah oh exactly
25:42okay dear listeners we're getting there we've only got sort of two more to go and maybe a few
25:47mentions so yeah now next literally now now tv now tv which is yeah if you don't have a skybox you
25:53can still get all the sort of sky stuff it can be a bit convoluted because there's a bunch of
25:58different packages but the entertainment package is what you get for like to get the tv and stuff
26:04then there's a cinema if you want the movie and sports if you watch premiering football or whatever
26:10but they're all like separated off or you can bundle them together it's right right right right a bit
26:14confusing but it gives you a bit like sky used to be in terms of like you add on things yeah yeah okay
26:20um and it's 9.99 a month unless you like agree for a year and then that's 6.99 for a month
26:27but you have to do the full year if you want the 6.99 whereas if you just want to do it for a month
26:32to catch a show and that has all the stuff that's like the sky atlantic and sky max and sky comedy
26:39and all those things like okay if people want to watch the new season of hacks that's on there
26:44okay yeah um the atomic with uh alfie allen it's quite good that's that's oh yeah it's started um
26:52and that's that's on now tv or if you are a sky subscriber you have this so you don't need now
26:58on tv but oh interesting yes if you don't have a box of a sky box this is the way to get sky stuff
27:04without sky box yeah handy yes okay if you don't want to commit to the full sky experience yes okay
27:10great and finally paramount mount plus which he ranges from 4.99 to 10.99 a month um it's a bit a bit like
27:22bit like apple tv where it's not got a huge back catalog but it does have more than apple because
27:28it's got like all the paramount movies so there's like yeah okay lots of horror films like the ring
27:35and there's like some park on there and you know yeah i don't think we've ever had the one thing that
27:41yeah the one thing that i always it used to be a lot of comedy stuff but the one thing
27:45yeah i always regret not having it for is uh yellow jackets that started somewhere else
27:52started on netflix or started on apple anyway maybe not apple anyway it started so i watched
27:58the first series somewhere else yeah and then um and then they bought it and i really enjoyed that so
28:04there is a good chance that we're going to buy paramount for a couple of months at some point
28:08even to watch yellow jackets do you know what i mean yes yeah and you know maybe when my subscription
28:13is uh done yeah yeah and there's also all the yellow stone stuff so there's two yellows it's the
28:19the yellow stream the jackets and the stones yeah um which is my uh my parents got it so i
28:26even love yellowstone it's wild but anyway right okay but and then just a few like quick mentions of
28:34other things if you like horror films there's something called shudder not shutter which has
28:39original movies and shows and also old you know some more like yeah yeah like horror stuff maybe in
28:48october i might subscribe i don't know yet yeah yeah yeah um and then there's britbox we mentioned
28:56britbox and we itvx you can pay to not have the ads channel 4 you can pay not to have the ads and
29:02get some things early yeah mgm plus i mentioned that i don't know what that is but that exists
29:09so wow probably a lot of old films and stuff i imagine yeah and i think they've got a robin hood
29:14tv show with sean bean coming up like yeah interesting yeah love a bit of sean bean love a bit of robin hood
29:21oh yeah right okay okay wow we've been through them all there haven't we i think yeah and you have
29:29crunchyroll for anime people and yes d-a-z-n for sports zone which is like a lot of boxing fights
29:38are on there and like okay the club low cup when someone was on that okay and hi you for reality fans
29:46is that um do they do old series they replay old series of reality tv yeah it's not like all like
29:52the housewives and okay yeah yeah yeah i think you can get it through like now tv and stuff
29:58ah okay yeah oh my god i'm exhausted after that
30:02as best you can matt one in one minute tell us what do you think people should do with their money
30:13for tv streaming tv streaming i think just get like two at a time but whatever um i would say
30:20if you like if you're like a grown-up and you like grown-up shows try apple tv for a bit like
30:26there's a lot of good stuff there agree that you can drop out once you've watched all the stuff you
30:31want netflix if you're into netflix and stuff keep netflix or if you've got younger kids maybe disney
30:39plus as an alternative because that's got all the disney stuff they learn stitches on there now
30:43you know yeah yeah for the families i think you can't go wrong that's exactly what we have
30:49we have disney oh sorry we have apple we have um netflix and we'll never get rid of netflix
30:57apple will probably drop and pick up something else and we've had disney in the past i think we still
31:01have disney but we're not watching it a lot that's one thing i would say about disney they didn't bring
31:04out a lot of new stuff yeah when we had it but yeah i think that's it you've got your kind of
31:09primary ones and then you'll pick up and drop other ones if you're organized otherwise you'd
31:13just be throwing your money away on whatever one you want at the time the other thing that work
31:17in the minds is like you could save yourself like a 10 or a month and keep that for wanting to buy a
31:23new film or and you know yeah that's an idea too if there's something you really want to see
31:28or go to the cinema exactly and go and support film um but that was brilliant thank you matt
31:33okay finally we are going to chat about uh the biggins that are coming up in um sort of autumn
31:43into winter i pulled out a few of these that i want to mention and then you can mention some as
31:49well and we can have a wee chat about them so um slow horses we've already talked about i think
31:54everybody knows about slow horses that's coming to apple tv on the 24th of september season five i'm in
32:00the middle of season four although i admittedly fell asleep watching it last night i'm so tired
32:04which is weird because it was really it was one of those really sort of chasey episodes for those
32:09lots of action and i was and i kept kind of waking up because the music kept getting
32:13really annoying but anyway so that's coming and that has really grown on me series one i was like
32:20yeah it's grand but that's really grown on me i think you just get attached to the characters
32:24they're so well done the characters really good um and then the house of guinness which
32:33oh yeah intriguing so it's about the guinness family and it's essentially succession set in the
32:381860s and 70s that kind of thing so yeah yeah and it's stephen knight who wrote right so
32:45should be good blue lights just love the first two series that that's set in northern ireland it's
32:49the police um procedural um celebrity traitors which we will talk about in a lot more detail
32:55maybe in the next episode um so they have some really really good names so fair play to the bbc
33:02with that riot women is coming in october to the bbc which is written by sally wainwright who wrote
33:07happy valley and other things she's great i just love the look of this you know it's women in their
33:1250s who are just shit sick of life and they want a bit of an escape and they set up a band
33:16so that sounds like fun and then the beatles anthology which is coming to disney plus at the
33:22end of november the 26th of november that should be great that same day matt you can tell us what
33:28else is coming out that same day the first batch of episodes from stranger things final season and
33:34then sad as the final season but like super excited yeah i think there's four episodes coming that day
33:41then three are coming on christmas day and the final ones coming on new year's eve so i imagine
33:47that again like the fourth season some of these will be like multiple hours long yeah yeah i think
33:54it's going to be epic because i was like oh i'll have to carve out three hours on christmas day for
33:58stranger things when in fact i'm gonna have to probably carve out five hours or six hours
34:02get up get up before the kids have watched two hours of street yeah um but yeah no i'm oh my god
34:11i'm that sounds like a great christmas day i have to say like i can't i'm even if i only watch one
34:16episode of it on christmas day like you know it's quality it's like gift to yourself so yes there's a
34:21few more matt that we want to mention well i was going to mention um task which is coming out on
34:28sunday the 7th in america monday the 8th of september in the uk that's on sky atlantic now tv and that's
34:36from the guy who wrote mayor of east town if uh you know okay yes it's got mark ruffalo it's another
34:45police-y thing he's like the head of a drug task force and i think it's like family drama and
34:50all that sort of fun stuff so i'm excited to see how he follows up mayor of east town
34:54got only murders in the building it's back next week the 9th um that's always fun um i sort of
35:02wax and wane a bit on that show but like we did the first series but then kind of fell out with the
35:08second series but i have only so much time in my calendar for kind of fun things and ted last was
35:14taking it all up at the moment i mean yeah and those episodes get along don't they oh my god totally i
35:21didn't realize that you know i thought this is a little half hour funny thing but they're like 40
35:25minutes a lot of them and longer yeah okay cool um we've got coming out tomorrow at the time of
35:31recording we've got the paper which is a sort of sequel spin-off to the office this one's interesting
35:40yeah yeah yeah like the whole pitch is it's the same crew from the office of filming a
35:45sort of struggling newspaper in the midwest of america it's got right donald gleason is sort of
35:51yeah i guess the michael scott equivalent in that so okay it looks pretty fun um this oscar from
35:57the office is back for some reason he's also that okay it's interesting one they could get back
36:03uh yeah absolutely is available and willing to keep doing it cool okay and there's also coming
36:07on the 14th september on itv i'm really excited for this one it's called cold water it's andrew
36:14lincoln of walking dead and then the teacher's fame it's his big return to british tv it's like
36:21set in scotland he moves into a a new house and there's a like kind of neighbor that he gets on
36:28that's a bit weird and his wife doesn't like the neighbor and okay yeah interesting oh that should
36:33be exciting is a bit is there going to be a bit of sort of safe not sci-fi but is it going to be
36:37like or i think it's just going to be like yeah you know like straight up drama yeah yeah okay cool
36:45cool cool oh my god so so much but i mean as quickly as you can what are the things you're most
36:54looking forward to on telly this autumn winter stranger things yeah this you just can't see beyond
37:00stranger things i can't either like it's um i like hooray for stranger things um i can't wait to
37:06see how old all the kids look in it but anyway um so that right women as i said i think is going to
37:12be great drama i think celebrity traitors is going to be must see like screaming at the tv tv which i
37:19love and of course end of the year stranger things i mean christmas and new year is sorted this year
