California Gov. Gavin Newsom is seeking an injunction to “stop the Trump Administration’s continued federalization of the National Guard through Election Day.” California filed the request for a preliminary injunction shortly after a federal judge ruled the President violated federal law when he deployed thousands of National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles during the summer to quell protests related to immigration raids.

On Tuesday, Trump threatened to send National Guard troops back to Los Angeles during an unrelated announcement in the Oval Office.

Trump said that Newsom, "didn’t want us there, and he’s going to need us again, because it’s starting to form again, I see it… It's staring to form again. You know, we have to maintain. It’s like maintenance on an airplane, you can buy it but you have to maintain it."

00:07And again, the police chief made a statement that we could not have done, there's no way they could handle it.
00:13You saw what was happening out there. It was going to be a disaster. We stopped it cold.
00:17If we didn't do that, it would have been a very sad day.
00:21And, you know, remember, we have the Olympics, we have the World Cup, we have all these things coming,
00:25and we have 250, all of these things coming.
00:28But I watched Newsom get up and say, yeah, he's doing a great job.
00:31He's not, we're the ones that did it. And that's okay, whatever it takes.
00:34But the main thing is, but he got up and said, we did it.
00:37Well, he didn't want us there, and he's going to need us again because it's starting to form again.
00:43I see it. It's starting to form again.
00:46You know, we have to maintain. It's like maintenance on an airplane.
00:49You can buy it, but you have to maintain it.
00:51And if you don't maintain it, a good plane becomes very unsafe very quickly.
