00:16At your first press conference almost two weeks ago, you specifically singled out ICE and it's snatching the people off the streets.
00:25You called it a terror and a horror.
00:27Have you conveyed that?
00:30Most of everything I've seen online, social media, is the objection by citizens and people of this city of how ICE is masked, unidentified, cars not marked, just snatching people off the street.
00:45Have you expressed that concern to Ambondi, the Attorney General, or to the White House?
00:50Yes, I have.
00:51And let me just say a little bit more about that, Tom, because I agree with you.
00:56What our residents are, they're concerned about a lot of things, but they're concerned that MPD has been compelled to participate with ICE.
01:08This is not, this is a requirement of the Home Rule Charter when the President requests MPD services for a federal purpose in an emergency, okay?
01:22We've got to get out of the emergency.
01:24That's why it's important that you understand that the framework that I laid out in the mayor's order is a pathway out.
01:31And it's, we have to be very clear to members of Congress that this is how we will be able to request or receive additional resources, management to the, you know, to the most strategic benefit for D.C. residents in public safety.
01:52And the other thing that is our primary concern is violent crime.
02:00How do we get guns?
02:01How do we keep people from using guns?
02:03How will we continue to drive down carjacking, use of guns, homicide in the city?
02:09We've been driving it down for two years.
02:11That accelerated.
02:12And we want it to keep accelerating.
02:16So how do we do that?
02:17So our deployment and our resources have to be used in violent criminals.
02:22And I can't say that the ICE activity is getting violent criminals for the most part.
