00:00Garrett Crochet, I would feel better about chalking this up as just one bad start
00:04if it didn't come on the heels of his worst month with the Red Sox.
00:08Now, still a good month, okay?
00:11I mean, most pitchers would take a month where they have an ERA of 319.
00:15Oh, yeah.
00:15But we've talked all year, and even from when they initially acquired him,
00:20talked about acquiring him last year, can he handle the full workload?
00:23You know, you look at his month-by-month ERA, 185, 203, 290, 173, 319.
00:30So he's already coming off, again, his worst month.
00:32It's not a bad month, just his worst month.
00:34And then he has that start that he has last night.
00:37He's made his last two games on normal rest.
00:39Neither one has he looked like vintage Crochet.
00:41Last night was seven earned, where it looked like he was cruising until the sixth.
00:45Seven!
00:45The start before, thank you, Nick.
00:47He was more hittable, I'd say, than normal, against Baltimore.
00:51So, are there reasons to be concerned about him?
00:55Was last night a one-off?
00:56Are the innings starting to catch up with Crochet?
00:59How are you feeling based on the trend line with him?
01:01Well, I'll tell you what.
01:02We have an early nominee for Stat of the Week.
01:06Wow!
01:06Courtesy of Brian Barrett.
01:07Used to work here, now at The Ringer.
01:09He's talking about Garrett Crochet.
01:12On four days rest this year, he has a 3.48 ERA.
01:16On five days rest, a 2.29 ERA.
01:21And that's almost a run and a half different.
01:25And again, 3.48, that's a good starter.
01:26It's a quality starter.
01:27That's solid.
01:27You'll take 3.48, but you're shaving more than a runoff as ERA by waiting an extra day.
01:31But one of the reasons why we like the team and why this team is different than it was last year
01:36and why they couldn't make noise in the playoffs is because you have one of the best pitchers in baseball,
01:39which is more the 2.29 ERA.
01:41He points out, too, the last two games were on four days rest.
01:48He went ten straight starts of at least five days rest for ten straight starts, like he says,
01:54before the Orioles outing.
01:56So because of off days and things like that, not like they were skipping them or pushing them,
02:00but they had the off days sort of lined up where he didn't have to throw with only four days rest.
02:04He had the five days rest of that sort of extra day, despite still being in a regular five-man rotation.
02:10And he lights out with that.
