00:00From the Gospel according to Luke chapter 12, verses 13 to 21.
00:05Someone in the crowd said to Jesus,
00:07Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.
00:11He replied to him,
00:13Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?
00:17Then he said to the crowd,
00:19Take care to guard against all greed,
00:22for though one may be rich,
00:23one's life does not consist of possessions.
00:27Then he told them a parable.
00:28There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest.
00:33He asked himself,
00:35What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?
00:40And he said,
00:41This is what I shall do.
00:42I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones.
00:46There I shall store all my grain and other goods.
00:49And I shall say to myself,
00:51Now as for you,
00:52you have so many good things stored up for many years.
00:55Rest, eat, drink, be merry.
00:58But God said to him,
01:01You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you.
01:04And the things you have prepared,
01:06to whom will they belong?
01:09Thus will it be for all who store up treasure for themselves,
01:12but are not rich in what matters to God.
