Deuteronomy 10:12-22 calls us to fear the Lord, walk in His ways, and love with grateful hearts. Enter this reverent reflection that honors the God of gods and Lord of lords, the defender of the orphan and the stranger.

Here we meditate on covenant love and holy obedience. Moses reminds Israel to serve the Lord with all the heart and all the soul. The command is clear. Keep His statutes. Circumcise your hearts. Put away stubbornness. Remember His mighty deeds from Egypt to the promised land. He owns the heaven of heavens, yet He sets His heart on His people. Therefore give Him praise. Do justice. Love the outsider. Care for the widow and the fatherless. Let worship flow into mercy and daily choices. Pray with us through this passage. Ask for a humble heart and steady steps. May the fear of the Lord become delight, awe, and faithful service. If this helped your prayer, share it with a friend. Subscribe for more scripture meditations and songful devotions.

00:00A reading from the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 10, verses 12 to 22.
00:06Moses said to the people,
00:08And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you?
00:14But to fear the Lord your God and follow his ways exactly,
00:18to love and serve the Lord your God, with all your heart and all your soul,
00:23to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord,
00:26which I enjoin on you today for your own good.
00:29Think! The heavens, even the highest heavens, belong to the Lord your God,
00:34as well as the earth and everything on it.
00:38Yet in his love for your fathers, the Lord was so attached to them
00:41as to choose you, their descendants, in preference to all other peoples,
00:46as indeed he has now done.
00:49Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and be no longer stiff-necked.
00:54For the Lord your God is the God of gods,
00:56the Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome,
01:01who has no favourites, accepts no bribes,
01:05who executes justice for the orphan and the widow,
01:08and befriends the alien, feeding and clothing him.
01:12So you too must befriend the alien,
01:15for you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt.
01:19The Lord your God shall you fear,
01:24and him shall you serve.
01:26Hold fast to him and swear by his name.
01:31He is your glory,
01:33he, your God,
01:34who has done for you those great and terrible things
01:38which your own eyes have seen.
01:40Your ancestors went down to Egypt,
01:42seventy strong,
01:43and now the Lord your God
01:46has made you as numerous
01:47as the stars of the sky.
