Leviticus 25:1, 8–17 invites us into the sacred rhythm of Sabbath and the Year of Jubilee. In these verses, God teaches rest, release, and right relationships. Leviticus 25 opens with the Lord speaking to Moses on Sinai, commanding Israel to let the land rest every seventh year and to keep the fiftieth year holy as Jubilee. In Jubilee, debts ease, property returns to families, and trade is fair. Prices reflect the number of harvests left. Neighbors are not oppressed. All remember that the land and life belong to God. This reading calls us to reverence, justice, and trust. Rest is an act of faith. Release is an act of mercy. Honest measures and fair dealings are acts of love. God forms a people who care for the poor and guard dignity. When we fear the Lord, we treat one another as kin. Pray with these verses today. Ask for grace to practice Sabbath in your home. Seek ways to repair relationships. Choose fair work and generous hearts. Proclaim liberty where you can. 00:00A reading from the book of Leviticus, chapter 25, verse 1, and verses 8 to 17.

00:06The Lord said to Moses on Mount Sinai,

00:09Seven weeks of years shall you count seven times seven years,

00:13so that the seven cycles amount to forty-nine years.

00:17Then, on the tenth day of the seventh month, let the trumpet resound.

00:21On this, the day of atonement, the trumpet blast shall re-echo throughout your land.

00:26This fiftieth year you shall make sacred by proclaiming liberty in the land for all its inhabitants.

00:32It shall be a jubilee for you, when every one of you shall return to his own property,

00:36every one to his own family estate.

00:38In this fiftieth year, your year of jubilee, you shall not sow,

00:42nor shall you reap the aftergrowth, or pick the grapes from the untrimmed vines.

00:47Since this is the jubilee, which shall be sacred for you,

00:50you may not eat of its produce, except as taken directly from the field.

00:54In this year of jubilee, then, every one of you shall return to his own property.

01:00Therefore, when you sell any land to your neighbor, or buy any from him, do not deal unfairly.

01:05On the basis of the number of years since the last jubilee,

01:08shall you purchase the land from your neighbor.

01:11And so also, on the basis of the number of years for crops, shall he sell it to you.

01:16When the years are many, the price shall be so much the more.

01:19When the years are few, the price shall be so much the less.

01:22For it is really the number of crops that he sells you.

01:26Do not deal unfairly then, but stand in fear of your God.

01:30I, the Lord, am your God.
