02:51Tonight, we are going to touch on everything that went down on SmackDown.
02:54Before we get to SmackDown, there's a couple things in the news we have to address.
02:58One, Jordan Grace.
03:00Where in heaven's name is Jordan Grace?
03:03It's been a month since she's even been on the main event.
03:05It's been even longer since we saw her on SmackDown.
03:08We are talking about one of the most premier women's talents in the world.
03:11This young lady went from being a very solid wrestler to really honing in and toning up her body,
03:17getting her moves set down, and becoming one of the most phenomenal female talents
03:21that we've seen in quite some time.
03:24And WWE does everything they can to get her to leave TNA Wrestling and come into their brand.
03:28And if you remember, she was at two different Royal Rumbles before signing a full-time deal with WWE.
03:34The shock when she came in as TNA Knockouts Champion.
03:38And then you finally get her to the WWE.
03:41You start her in NXT, which was a fine run.
03:43I have no problem with her NXT run,
03:45except maybe she should have got the NXT Women's Championship much sooner and all that kind of fun stuff.
03:51And then you finally move her to the main roster,
03:53and the word coming out is they have nothing for her.
03:56Why do you bring somebody to the main roster
03:59if you don't have a year's worth of ideas already put together?
04:02This is the problem with WWE right now.
04:05Everything sounds good on paper.
04:07All this depth of talent they have.
04:10And let's be honest,
04:11their talent roster right now is as deep as it has ever, ever, ever been.
04:15I was actually having a conversation on social media the other day.
04:18There's a gentleman who has a website that he posts all these old match cards from the 80s.
04:25NWA, WWF, stuff like that.
04:27AWA cards.
04:29And what I always thought was interesting was
04:31the NWA and AWA cards are always super stacked.
04:34The WWF cards look like a whole bunch of television squash matches
04:38until you get to like the last two matches are super solid.
04:42When you bring Jordan Grace to the main roster
04:45and you have nothing for her,
04:47when you have the depth of talent you have right now,
04:49it's a disgrace.
04:51Because we're not talking about 1984
04:53when WWE's cards were like
04:56Salvatore Belomo versus Rowdy Roddy Piper.
04:58We need something for all the premium talents to be doing.
05:03And Jordan Grace is one of the best in the world.
05:05It is insulting that we haven't seen her do something more substantial on the main roster.
05:09No call, absolutely inexcusable.
05:13And this is the problem.
05:14Someone as talented as she is would be a huge, huge signing anywhere.
05:19And the way they do talent cuts in this company,
05:21and word was when she signed with WWE
05:23that she got main roster money from the get-go,
05:25tells me they're paying her a good chunk of change to do nothing.
05:29Maybe she's one of the people who took a pay cut.
05:31I don't know. Hopefully not.
05:32But at some point, you're going to take a phenomenal talent like her
05:36and she's going to become disgruntled and ask for a release.
05:38Some people are not content just collecting a paycheck and sitting at home.
05:43The word was she's shown up to TV,
05:45tapings have been sent home, not used, all that kind of stuff.
05:48How long does that go on before she gives up on the company?
05:51Just saying.
05:52Braun Breaker, another one not happy with WWE right now,
05:55especially his creative.
05:56He wants out of the vision.
05:58You know, this young man, look, a year ago,
06:02technically, if you want to really think about it,
06:04it's even more than a year ago.
06:05We saw him tearing it up in NXT.
06:08We saw him go for the NXT championship.
06:11We saw him get into a tag team with Baron Corbin.
06:13We've seen him come up to the main roster,
06:15become Intercontinental Champion.
06:17And it really looked like when he joined the vision,
06:19right after WrestleMania, when he lost the Intercontinental Championship,
06:22that the reason he lost it was to prime him for a shot
06:25at a main event spot at WrestleMania 42.
06:28And word early was that was the plan.
06:30He was going to face either CM Punk or Seth Rollins.
06:33Preferably Seth Rollins because of the injury situation we didn't see coming.
06:37But all that went out the window.
06:39One, he wasn't even on the card.
06:41And I get it.
06:42He was injured, but he showed up at the card and got physical anyways
06:45because he was cleared before the card happened.
06:48You could have booked this match when he was getting close to being cleared.
06:50And if something happened last minute,
06:52he could have done an angle in the back of the building
06:53and switched it up at the last minute.
06:55Instead, we got no Braun Breaker at Mania.
06:57And now, he has fizzled as much as anybody on the main roster ever has
07:02who's been called up.
07:03It's an indictment on Triple H and his team's commitment to great creative process.
07:08We keep seeing the same crap week in and week out.
07:11No excitement.
07:12And here's the thing that really gets me about Braun Breaker.
07:14When they did their European tour a few weeks ago,
07:16and I mentioned it on the show a few weeks ago,
07:18there was a moment where there was a dark match
07:20between Seth Rollins and Obafemi going against the Vision,
07:24Braun Breaker and Austin Theory.
07:25And in that match, Braun and Obafemi ended up in the ring together,
07:30and the place came unglued.
07:32It was electric.
07:34You could find the video on social media.
07:35Go out there, take a look.
07:36YouTube, something like that.
07:38I'm sure you'll find it.
07:39This is a feud that needs to happen,
07:41and it needs to happen probably in the next 12 months.
07:44But instead, you've basically taken Braun Breaker
07:47and all the heat and all the momentum he's had
07:49and shoved him into an ice bath.
07:50He is colder than cold and has no momentum right now.
07:54That's sad.
07:55That is pathetic for WWE's creative.
07:57And I love wrestling.
07:58I love WWE.
08:00I love AEW.
08:01I love TNA.
08:01I love CMLL.
08:02I love AAA.
08:03I love New Japan.
08:03I love it all.
08:05But this, gotta call a spade a spade.
08:08This is terrible booking.
08:09Back-to-back talents that we're talking about right now,
08:11and it's something they have to fix,
08:13and they gotta fix soon.
08:14This is the kind of stuff that drives people out of your company.
08:17In the meantime,
08:18let's get to some current conversation.
08:20Randy Orton has been gone since WrestleMania.
08:22He was supposed to do some meet and greets at FanFest.
08:26He did not.
08:27They pulled those.
08:28They refunded the people their money.
08:29People were like,
08:30oh my goodness, is something going on?
08:31Is he injured?
08:32But then word is,
08:33he is in New York City,
08:35and there is speculation
08:36that he will show up at Saturday night's main event
08:39for something,
08:40for some reason.
08:41I don't know what they do with him,
08:42because at this point,
08:43is he gonna be a heel?
08:44Because the last time we saw him,
08:45he was facing Cody,
08:46and he was a bad guy.
08:48You know how popular he is.
08:49Does he come back as a babyface
08:51and just instantly code switch
08:52and throw away all that heel work he did
08:54back in March and April?
08:56I don't know.
08:57I think the fans are gonna love seeing him so much
08:59that they're gonna cheer for him
09:00no matter what they do.
09:01So maybe they have to turn him babyface again,
09:03but then that defeats the whole purpose
09:04of turning him heel in the first place.
09:05So we'll have to wait and see.
09:07Hopefully he does something.
09:08I wanna see him at SummerSlam
09:09doing something of substance.
09:11I just don't know where he fits on the card,
09:13especially with such little time to build
09:14with it just over two weeks away.
09:16The one thing that they do need to get on,
09:18and I'm gonna make a prediction right now,
09:20and I'm gonna make the prediction for a reason.
09:22Saturday night's main event in the four-way
09:25that you'll hear me talk about
09:26when we get into SmackDown,
09:27we're gonna probably see
09:29some major outside interference
09:30that's gonna lead to the finish of that match,
09:32which is gonna complicate SummerSlam for me.
09:34Because, you know, as we get into SmackDown,
09:37it was announced tonight
09:38that there's gonna be a,
09:39that the tag team match,
09:41the main event of Saturday night's main event
09:43between Gunther and Sami Zayn
09:44going against CM Punk and Cody Rhodes,
09:46that if Gunther and Sami Zayn win,
09:49they will be added to the World Championship match
09:51at SummerSlam with Punk and Rhodes.
09:54I'm fine with the stipulation,
09:55but here's the thing.
09:56We gotta get this Gunther-Aldis thing going,
09:59and all the websites today,
10:01all the news sites,
10:02all the dirt sheets are all saying the same thing.
10:04Nick Aldis versus Gunther
10:06is now official and booked.
10:08It's on the card for SummerSlam,
10:10but we've got nothing to show it.
10:12Nothing at all.
10:12Tonight, SmackDown went down,
10:14Nick Aldis was nowhere to be found.
10:15He could have easily shown up in the main event.
10:17Now, I know why he didn't.
10:19You wanna build heat
10:21for this tag team match tomorrow night,
10:23but this is the perfect way to kick off.
10:26Gunther and Aldis is Saturday night's main event.
10:29At the end of that match,
10:30Aldis is gonna cost Gunther his opportunity
10:33at the World Championship match at SummerSlam
10:36to further that storyline
10:38that he's the one who's always holding Gunther back.
10:40He's gonna basically come out and be like,
10:41you know what?
10:42You always say that I'm costing you.
10:43Now, I'm gonna cost you.
10:44If you're gonna say I'm doing it,
10:46I'm gonna do it.
10:46And I love that idea if that's what they go with.
10:48But all the reports are saying
10:49that that match is official.
10:51So that being said,
10:52let's get into SmackDown tonight.
10:53It started out the show.
10:55You know, they have a little bit of a recap.
10:59They add the stipulation to open the show
11:01with Gunther, Cody Rhodes coming out.
11:03They make that fatal four,
11:05that tag team match could potentially turn
11:06the main event of SummerSlam
11:07into a fatal four-way.
11:09I loved all of this.
11:10I thought it was good character work.
11:11It makes a lot of logical sense.
11:13So we'll wait and see how that plays out.
11:15After that, we get Finn Balor versus Tala Tonga.
11:18There's some outside interference
11:20from Tama Tonga at the end of the match.
11:22Finn Balor, shockingly to me,
11:24picks up the win over Tala Tonga.
11:26And I'm not sure how to feel about Balor right now
11:28because for so long,
11:29he basically felt like an upper mid-carder.
11:32But now, this makes me feel like
11:35they want to give him a push,
11:36but just aren't sure how to do it.
11:38I have no problem with him feuding with,
11:40you know, I don't call them the MFTs anymore,
11:43but basically the MFTs that are now rejects.
11:46If they want to feud with them, that's fine.
11:48I really would love to see them tie Shinsuke
11:50back in with Finn to go against the two of them.
11:53And that should have been on
11:54Saturday night's main event also.
11:55That would have been great
11:56because I don't see any other way
11:57for Balor to get on the card for SummerSlam.
12:00So that would have been fine.
12:02But this is a solid match.
12:03I mean, especially Tala Tonga,
12:04who doesn't move around like a cruiserweight.
12:06Finn Balor picks up the win.
12:08And then we got to address earlier today on X,
12:12Nick Aldis is basically being removed
12:16as SmackDown general manager for now.
12:18And Adam Pearce was taken over the duties for tonight.
12:22And because of that,
12:23he announced that due to the injury to Rhea Ripley,
12:26and this was a post he put on X,
12:28that they are going to crown
12:29an interim women's world champion,
12:32which I've never seen them do that in WWE before.
12:35That's a UFC thing.
12:37WWE, if you can't defend your belt,
12:38you surrender your championship.
12:41Everybody up to this point has.
12:42Even that's been hokey.
12:44Because like when Indie Hartwell
12:46was the NXT Women's Champion,
12:48she came to the main roster,
12:49they made her vacate the Women's NXT Championship.
12:52But when Becky Lynch was a main roster wrestler
12:54and won the NXT Championship,
12:55they didn't make her vacate it
12:56to come back to the main roster and wrestle.
12:59They just let her do it.
13:01And then she eventually lost
13:02the NXT Women's Championship down there.
13:03In this situation,
13:05Rhea Ripley, if she can't go
13:06and she hasn't wrestled since basically Mania,
13:09shortly after Mania,
13:10then take the title off her.
13:12She could have her win it later.
13:14But it doesn't make sense,
13:15this interim thing,
13:16unless you're going to do that from now
13:17in perpetuity for every championship.
13:20Otherwise, you're playing favorites.
13:22Between her and Liv Morgan,
13:23we've got two women's champions.
13:25Neither one's defended their championship
13:26pretty much since Mania.
13:28Neither one of them have wrestled
13:29very many matches at all.
13:31You know, obviously, Rhea, nothing.
13:33And Liv, very little.
13:34So, what the heck are we doing
13:36with our women's division?
13:37It's pathetic.
13:38Again, going back to that booking.
13:40So, now it's on X.
13:41Interim Women's Champion going to be crowned.
13:43It's going to be a ladder match
13:44and five women are going to qualify
13:45over the next couple of weeks.
13:46We're going to get a couple of those matches tonight.
13:48They actually go from that,
13:50you know, making sure everybody knows
13:51about that announcement,
13:52into Tiffany Stratton versus JC Jane
13:54to be one of the five women
13:56in the ladder match
13:57to crown that champion.
13:58And Tiffany Stratton ends up coming out on top
14:01over JC Jane.
14:02I hated this.
14:03JC Jane, when she came to the main roster,
14:06was on fire.
14:07And she got over so fast.
14:09And they were talking about expediting her plans,
14:12having her feud with Rhea Ripley,
14:15possibly at SummerSlam.
14:16So, what a better opportunity
14:18than right now
14:19to not have
14:23Tiffany Stratton go to this match
14:25since she's the Women's United States Champion anyways
14:27and shouldn't be in the world title match
14:29if she's the U.S. Champion.
14:30Instead, they should have had JC Jane go in.
14:32And I will go so far as to say
14:34JC Jane should have won.
14:36And that way she could have faced Rhea Ripley
14:38for a champion versus interim championship match.
14:40Now, JC Jane's not going to be in the match
14:42because she loses to Tiffany Stratton,
14:45which I think is a terrible idea.
14:47That being said,
14:48solid match.
14:49The ladies are talented.
14:50They really are.
14:51Just not thrilled with the way they're booking it.
14:53We did have a back,
14:55like a vignette play from Baron Corbin.
14:57He actually,
14:57this was some of his best mic work
14:59I've ever heard him do.
15:00I was really impressed with everything he said.
15:03He really almost played like a tweener role.
15:06Like he was out for Trick,
15:08which would make him a baby face,
15:09but he mellows collateral damage,
15:11which would make him a heel.
15:12So, he's really playing that tweener role.
15:14And I'm okay with that.
15:14And they actually transitioned into an interview
15:16with Trick Williams and Carmelo in the back.
15:19A lot of back and forth banter there.
15:21It was very convoluted,
15:24Trick insulting Carmelo.
15:25And what I really hated about this promo was,
15:28Trick Williams was like,
15:29hey, how long have you been on the main roster
15:31and you've done nothing?
15:32Well, let's talk about that.
15:33Since coming to the main roster,
15:35Carmelo has done as much as Trick has.
15:37They both have done one thing and one thing only.
15:40They both won the United States Championship.
15:42That's it.
15:43So, if you make fun of Melo for only doing that
15:46and that's all you've done,
15:48it makes you look like a hypocrite.
15:49I mean, if that's what they're going for, then fine.
15:51But otherwise, I thought it sounded stupid.
15:53Just my opinion.
15:55From there, Jade Cargill, Nia Jax,
15:58the next qualifying match.
16:00This match was utter trash.
16:01They were off.
16:02They weren't in sync.
16:03Jade Cargill tried to hit a pump kick
16:05to start the match and missed by a mile.
16:07The match does not go very long before Rick,
16:09I almost said Ric Flair, oh my goodness,
16:11before Charlotte Flair shows up
16:13and she beats up Meechian on the outside
16:16and B-Fab, which I had no problem with.
16:18The distraction would have been fine,
16:19but then she gets in the ring
16:21and causes the disqualification
16:23so that Jade Cargill is going to go to SummerSlam
16:27for that Women's Interim Championship.
16:30Why?
16:31That doesn't even make sense.
16:33What are we talking about here?
16:35A few weeks ago, we were talking about,
16:37you know, Charlotte going against Jade.
16:39That is impossible now.
16:41Jade's going into that match.
16:43I wanted to see Jade and Charlotte.
16:45It's what they've been teasing the whole time
16:46and I don't want it to be a TV match.
16:48That's a pay-per-view level match
16:50and instead we're stuck with this nonsense.
16:52So that's what happens.
16:53Charlotte Flair costs Nia Jax her opportunity
16:56by attacking Jade Cargill.
16:59She ends up getting laid down
17:00when first Nia splashes her in the corner
17:03while she's trash talking Jade.
17:05Then Jade comes in the ring and drops her on her face
17:07and I just hated all of it.
17:09I also, I even hate the stuff they did with Alexa Bliss
17:11with breaking the arm.
17:12We all know from a few years ago
17:14that she has this funky ability
17:15to like contort her arm
17:16and make it look like it's broken backwards
17:18when it's not.
17:19And so we all know that.
17:20So running that angle back a second time in her career
17:22is kind of stupid and repetitive
17:24and I guess they're assuming,
17:25like a lot of WWE executives have,
17:27Vince McMahon included and many others since,
17:29that people have short-term memory.
17:31We don't.
17:32Most people who watch WWE on the regular
17:34don't forget anything.
17:36Heck, especially if you're listening to this podcast.
17:38If you're listening to me, you're a diehard.
17:40You know all this stuff.
17:41So just saying, a little hokey for me.
17:44From there, we have Gunther in the back.
17:48He's talking some trash
17:49and Candice LeRae rolls up
17:51with Johnny Gargano still planking,
17:53which is absolutely ridiculous.
17:55She's talking about how they got to win their match
17:57at Saturday Night's Main Event
17:58because now, because they want Sammy to win
18:00because Sammy's, remember,
18:01the one who's helping Johnny Gargano
18:02try to break out of his trance
18:04or whatever this stupid, stupid storyline is.
18:08And then after Gunther walks away,
18:10which was kind of strange to begin with,
18:13he almost tried to pull off a comedic character
18:15and then walked away
18:16and that just doesn't suit him.
18:17But then Blake Monroe attacks Candice LeRae,
18:20introduces herself,
18:21tells Johnny Gargano he needs a haircut.
18:23I'm fine with Monroe being violent
18:25and hostile in the back,
18:27but it's been months now
18:29that she's been called up to the main roster
18:31and hasn't had a legit match.
18:33Can we get the lady out there and have a match?
18:35And where were some of the other talents?
18:36Where's Chelsea Green at this week?
18:39I just, I don't know.
18:40There's so much that's missing every week
18:42from a company that has so much talent.
18:45I'm going to do a whole nother episode on that stuff
18:47because it's so frustrating.
18:50From there, War Raiders versus Fraxium.
18:52And look, if you're going to build the War Raiders
18:55for a tag team championship
18:56versus tag team championship match,
18:58AAA versus SmackDown, whatever,
19:00WWE World Tag Team Championship,
19:01then you cannot let Fraxium get in this much offense.
19:04There were plenty of moments in this match,
19:06which, by the way,
19:08this was easily the match of the night.
19:11Fantastic in-ring work from both teams,
19:13but that's the problem.
19:14You're trying to build these guys
19:16as legit threats to the world tag team champions,
19:18and they almost lost to Fraxium,
19:20and the match went long.
19:22So for me, I would have had them be more dominant.
19:24Now, of course, they pick up the win,
19:26they beat Fraxium,
19:27and they're going to probably go on
19:28to have that tag team unification,
19:30especially with Damian Priest now being in AAA
19:33as well as in WWE.
19:35So I expect that to happen,
19:36but I don't know.
19:37I love the match.
19:38Again, best match of the night.
19:41But I really think the War Raiders
19:42should have been put over more strong.
19:44And then, of course, we get to the back.
19:46There's some conversation between Punk and Cody Rhodes,
19:48whether Punk is going to be at ringside,
19:51whether he's not.
19:51That goes on for way too long.
19:53And then we get right into the match.
19:55Gunther comes out.
19:56Rhodes comes out.
19:56Rhodes attacks.
19:57Gunther, as he's coming down the rampway.
19:59The match is physical.
20:00It's solid.
20:01I hate the thing they do
20:03where they do the commercial break,
20:04and while they're doing it,
20:05they do the picture-in-picture side-by-side
20:07because some great, great action
20:10was taking place during that,
20:11and you could barely see it,
20:12comparatively speaking,
20:14to the full-size screen match.
20:15And I would have liked to have seen some of that stuff
20:17because it was great.
20:18A lot of the chops that people love hearing them
20:20ring out throughout the building,
20:21you couldn't hear because you were listening to a commercial.
20:23Terrible timing,
20:24at least for what they were doing in the match.
20:26The match gets interesting.
20:28Punk, at the end, is cheering on Cody,
20:31and Sami Zayn runs out from the back,
20:33who's been absent since losing his championship.
20:35He attacks Punk.
20:36Cody attacks Sami.
20:38It turns into a four-way brawl
20:39and a disqualification,
20:41and it really brings some intrigue
20:43to the match for tomorrow night.
20:44Gonna have to wait and see how things play out,
20:46but no matter what happens,
20:48this was actually pretty solid stuff.
20:51So, I, again,
20:53love the match with the World Raiders for Axiom.
20:54I really did enjoy the match with Cody and Gunther.
20:58They seem like they could be
20:59almost like a Roman and Seth thing
21:01over many, many years,
21:03if they do it correctly.
21:06SmackDown overall,
21:07some good stuff,
21:08some great stuff,
21:09some stuff that leaves me shaking my head.

21:17when they just had their feud,
21:19and we were expecting a different feud for Jade.

21:22And Nia's gonna get another shot next week
21:24to qualify by wrestling Charlotte.
21:25So, I'm sure they'll probably put Charlotte
21:27into the match.
21:28It'll be Charlotte, Jade,
21:30and Stratton,
21:31which is even funkier
21:32with all the dynamics that go on there.
21:34But, I don't know.
21:36Very strange stuff.
21:37I can't wait to see what they do,
21:39but I think there's certainly things
21:41they could have done better tonight,
21:42and we'll have to wait and see
21:43how this plays out over the next two weeks,
21:44and how are things run down tomorrow night
21:46at Saturday night's main event
21:48when there's a whole lot that may go down
21:50that could come as a shock.
