Yellow warnings for rain and thunderstorms. Rain across northern areas becoming confined to the far northeast of Scotland. Showers and thunderstorms elsewhere dying away for a time but some continuing to affect western areas before further heavy and thundery rain moves in from the southwest, accompanied by strong winds along the south coast. Staying mild for most but cooler across the sheltered glens of Scotland - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 03/09/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Clare Nasir.
00:00Hello there and a very good evening to you on this Wednesday evening which is lively outside with some heavy torrential downpours.
00:07We have weather warnings currently for the northeast of Scotland as well as central parts of England and Wales.
00:13Low pressure sits towards the north of Scotland as we head through Thursday.
00:18Still features running in allowing for the risk of thunderstorms through the day across England and Wales.
00:22On Friday though, high pressure builds from the southeast.
00:25We will see some rain across the far northwest of Scotland.
00:28Things warm up into the weekend before, yes, yet another low pressure extends across as we head through Sunday and into Monday.
00:37For the time being, this yellow warning for rain actually tells us there's going to be some heavy and torrential downpours.
00:43Thunderstorm warning extends until mid-evening across England and Wales.
00:48A quieter spell of weather here as that rain becomes confined to the far northeast of Scotland.
00:52And then this cluster of showery rain arrives later, again from the southwest of England.
00:58And this will bring, again, some heavy torrential downpours, strong winds along the coast, even some coastal gales here as that showery rain extends across towards more western parts of England and Wales as we head through into the Thursday morning.
01:12Elsewhere, still some showers towards western Scotland and temperatures holding up away from the glens of Scotland where we could see values down to around seven or eight degrees Celsius.
01:20First thing then tomorrow morning, this warning for thunderstorms extends from eastern England down towards the central part of Wales.
01:27Notice they're fairly slow moving and pushing northwards thunder, lightning, even some hail and gusty winds.
01:34A bright start across eastern Scotland, northern Ireland, the far north of England.
01:37But showers will develop here.
01:39And again, they'll be slow moving, the risk of some heavy and thundery ones.
01:42But it's really this cluster here which we're concerned about with some torrential downpours through the afternoon, causing problems on the roads.
01:50Further showers are likely towards the south later, but they'll be fairly scattered as this area of sherry rain just clears towards the North Sea later on in the day.
01:58Here's your warning zone as we extend down towards southern parts of Wales through Thursday.
02:03Elsewhere, yes, expect those showers and again the risk of thunder through the day.
02:07Through Thursday evening and overnight, some clearer skies.
02:11I said earlier that high pressure extending from the southwest so we could see a cooler night under those starry skies.
02:17But yet again, some showers still just affecting the far west of Scotland.
02:21And later on, thickening cloud brings some a little rain to some parts of the northwest through the day.
02:26Elsewhere, it's a quieter day, a mix of cloud and brighter skies, a few fleeting showers in the mix and temperatures on the up.
02:33So 19 across eastern Scotland, 17 or 18 for Northern Ireland and we'll see a 19 to 22 anywhere from northern England down towards central southern parts.
02:43So Friday looks like probably the best day of the next few days and Saturday similar to be honest.
02:49Yet again, we watch as that rain just skirts the far northwest of Scotland with a stronger wind.
02:54Into Saturday morning, some clearer skies yet again, a lighter breeze towards eastern counties and some lovely sunshine to start the day.
03:01Winds will pick up from the west though through the day, bringing in some warmer air.
03:06So temperatures will be a couple of degrees higher than what we've experienced this week.
03:10And certainly most places will be dry with a mix of clouds and sunshine and temperatures coming in probably around 18 to 23 degrees Celsius.
03:18But all change yet again through Sunday and into the beginning of next week.
03:22For more details, check out our 10-day trend and I'll see you again soon.
