00:00I am Lee Wilson. I'm the SIO for Operation Privilege, which is the
00:04investigation into the murder of Lenny Scott. First and foremost, my thoughts
00:09today are with Lenny's family and loved ones. I cannot begin to comprehend the
00:13grief and pain they must have suffered. Lenny had just finished a training
00:17session at his gym in Skelmersdale and was leaving when he was approached by a
00:21man in a high-visibility jacket who shot him six times at close range to the head
00:27and body. The shooting was captured on CCTV and is one of the most brutal and
00:35inhumane things I have ever seen in my 30 years in the police service. Lenny Scott
00:39was a family man first and foremost, an only son and father of three children to
00:44whom he was devoted. He was a man of integrity, a man who tried to do the right
00:49thing and it was that which cost him his life. As our investigation unfolded it
00:53started to become clear that Lenny's murder was linked to his time as a prison
00:57officer. In March of 2020, Lenny had seized an illicit mobile phone from a
01:03prisoner named Elias Morgan. The phone showed Morgan and others had been
01:08involved in relationships with a prison officer called Sarah Williams. She was
01:13investigated, arrested and sent to prison in 2023 for misconduct offences.
01:18Characteristically, Lenny refused both the bribes and threats that came from Morgan,
01:23including a chilling warning, I'll bide my time but I promise I will get you.
01:29Morgan was true to his word. He waited four years to wreak his revenge on Lenny.
01:34But despite what he thought was meticulous planning and thanks to the painstaking
01:38work of the detectives of our force major investigation team who ploughed through
01:43many thousands of hours of CCTV and other evidence, the plot was uncovered and Morgan
01:49was unmasked as the gunman and the man behind this most heinous and evil of crimes.
01:54Finally, I would like to return to Lenny, a man of huge integrity and bravery who did
01:59the right thing and sadly paid the ultimate price for doing so. I hope that the
02:04guilty verdicts give his family some sense that justice has been done for Lenny.
