00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 games that look or play
00:13nothing like they did when they originally launched.
00:17It's incredible how much some games can transform after years of updates, and today's sponsor
00:34Warframe is one such game.
00:36Since 2013, Warframe has amassed a colossal community of more than 85 million players,
00:41and it looks and plays completely differently than it did initially.
00:44The folks at Digital Extremes have evolved the experience by adding in new cinematic
00:48quests, open worlds, unique gameplay mechanics and tons of new Warframes, cosmetics, weapons
00:53and more, and it just keeps growing.
00:59This steady stream of quality content is why players have been jumping in for more than
01:03a decade, and Digital Extremes continues to try and find ways to make Warframe fresh and
01:07interesting, whether it's upgrading the visuals and sound, or implementing a major feature
01:12like taking part in interstellar battles aboard your personal starship alongside friends.
01:17Want to try it out for yourself?
01:18The next chapter of Warframe begins in its new cinematic update, The Old Piece, launching
01:23this December.
01:24You can sign up and download Warframe for free today on all platforms, PC, Xbox, PlayStation,
01:29Nintendo Switch, and iOS, with Android coming soon at Warframe.com.
01:34Ready or Not
01:46When it first launched on PC in 2023, Ready or Not didn't really get much fanfare from players.
02:02Performance issues were a major problem, and the number of missions available was incredibly
02:06lackluster.
02:07In other words, the game got stale and aggravating after a bit, but once the game launched on consoles
02:13in 2025, more and more people have found tremendous value in Ready or Not.
02:25There are more missions available than ever before, even without the expansions.
02:29Plenty of equipment and AI officers saw notable improvements in damage and accuracy, and the
02:34performance issues are a bit of a rarity these days.
02:38Plus, developer Void Interactive leaned heavily into the realistic nature of SWAT operations,
02:45creating a game that is both challenging to endure and enlightening to learn about, to a certain extent.
02:50Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
03:01Of course, we'd be remiss to talk about tactical shooters and not recognize Rainbow Six Siege.
03:11For the longest time, this was one of the biggest tactical shooters in the online space, next to Counter-Strike of course.
03:18However, this wasn't the case at launch.
03:20Many players felt that the game was too lean in the number of maps available, the operators weren't super fleshed out,
03:26and the microtransactions were way, way too egregious.
03:30But over time, Ubisoft learned and adapted to player expectations.
03:42Now, there's a massive buffet of operators with unique abilities to learn on top of dozens of different maps
03:48that'll force you to adapt at a moment's notice with their destructible environments.
03:52It's truly astonishing how much a game can change in a decade's time.
04:05The Master Chief Collection
04:13Initially, this was one of the worst video game collections we had ever seen.
04:17Halo, the Master Chief Collection was a monumental embarrassment for Microsoft,
04:21as the collection was plagued with severe technical issues, such as unstable online servers.
04:26But if there was one thing 343 Industries did right by Halo,
04:31it was how long they spent after release adding more and more to the collection while fixing all of the problems.
04:42Not only were all of the bugs squashed and online issues fixed,
04:46343 Industries included Halo 3 ODST, Halo Reach, and even the Firefight multiplayer mode from Reach to MCC.
04:55Today, Master Chief Collection is now seen as one of the best video game collections ever assembled.
05:00Now is one of those times.
05:09Lords of the Fallen
05:12Lords of the Fallen
05:13Lords of the Fallen was such a weird case because of how it was sort of a sequel, but sort of not.
05:26In reality, it was a reimagining of the 2014 game with more refined mechanics and features.
05:32And surprisingly, developer Hexworks and publisher CI Games added even more ideas post-launch.
05:47A revamped character creation system, an improved tutorial system for new players,
05:51and a co-op mode helped make Lords of the Fallen even better than it already was,
05:56and leagues better than the 2014 original game.
05:59Destiny 2
06:08Compared to the rest of our entries, Destiny 2 had a rollercoaster of emotions with every change.
06:14At launch, it felt like some mistakes from the previous game were being repeated, for example, releasing with not a lot to do.
06:34But as the expansions rolled in, we got new locations, new weapons, new powers, new bosses, new raids, and the like.
06:40Unfortunately, as the game grew, so too did the file size, which forced older content to wind up getting axed from the game.
06:55It's caused Destiny 2 to truly become a completely different game now that it opens in the middle of the story.
07:01At least we were able to get multi-class after the major expansions were brought to an end.
07:06The Elder Scrolls Online
07:15Once upon a time, ESO was viewed as one of ZeniMax's biggest blunders ever.
07:28More than the infamous Horse Armor DLC for Oblivion.
07:32Players were expected to fork over 60 bucks for the game and an additional $15 per month just to access the online portion of the game.
07:40Which was, you know, the whole point of the game.
07:44Considering how broken the game was in terms of glitches and connection stability, it was nowhere near worth the price of admission.
07:51Surprisingly, the game was steered in the right direction a year later when it was rebranded as Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited.
08:08And after well over a decade of expansions with new realms and stories to experience, ESO is now well worth your time and money.
08:16And no subscription is required anymore.
08:19Dead by Daylight
08:28Dead by Daylight used to be really rough around the edges when it first debuted.
08:42The environments were insanely dark, the perk system was rough in balance and design, animations were kind of rigid, and there wasn't a ton of reason to keep players playing unless you were rigging the matchmaking system to get paired up with friends.
08:57Fast forward all the way to, well, today, and it's a completely different game now.
09:02Every killer, every perk, every map forces you to approach your games differently each and every time.
09:18Not only that, but it's become a massive celebration of horror entirely as it brings in famous heroes and villains from movies, TV, and video games ranging from Halloween and Child's Play to Resident Evil and Five Nights at Freddy's.
09:31If you love horror, you're gonna love Dead by Daylight.
09:34Why have you not made the jump yet?
09:36Come and join us.
09:37In the fog.
09:44Fortnite.
09:53Remember when Fortnite was supposed to be an online PvE game?
09:57Remember when it added a Battle Royale mode after PUBG exploded in popularity?
10:01Yeah, those days are long gone.
10:03While Fortnite still supports its Battle Royale mode where frantically building the Smithsonian could determine whether you win or lose, it is no longer the main attraction.
10:12Let me feel your love.
10:19Epic Games has evolved the game to be a mishmash of different things, most of it being made by the player base itself.
10:28It has become a video game the video game type of game, where it is everything and anything with no real identity outside of the abundance of crossovers it has seen over the years.
10:39That isn't to say Fortnite is bad, but it definitely does not look or play anything like it did back in 2017, 2018, or even 2022.
10:49Final Fantasy XIV.
11:07Just before ZeniMax fumbled the ball with ESO, Square Enix was in turmoil over the travesty that was Final Fantasy XIV.
11:15This game was an utter train wreck when it first launched in 2010, which is wild to think about considering the popularity that A Realm Reborn sees today.
11:24The emotes, the raids, the worlds, the equipment.
11:35How could anybody possibly hate on Final Fantasy XIV with all the good stuff we have now?
11:41Well, the original iteration was marred with an abysmally unreadable UI, a litany of performance issues in both frame rates and stable online connectivity, and a combat system that ultimately felt underbaked.
11:54Man, thank god A Realm Reborn managed to resurrect the concept of an online Final Fantasy game.
12:04And lastly, No Man's Sky.
12:14You look at No Man's Sky now and see a live service game loaded with so many cool mechanics and features.
12:26Awesome base building that has spawned its own little community.
12:30Ship customization and trading that's gotten so big that it's a market within the game.
12:34Galaxies with a seemingly infinite number of plants and animals to discover.
12:38Would you believe this game was once seen as a complete catastrophe for both publisher Sony and developer Hello Games?
12:46Yeah, we're talking loads of missing features, messy procedural generation that wound up generating funky looking animals, and no multiplayer functionality of any kind.
12:56It's a night and day difference with this game.
