00:00In Colombia, CELAC has called for an emergency meeting for this Monday in view of the deployment of United States military vessels in the Caribbean.
00:20The 25th Presidential Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization closed on Monday in China with the approval of 24 final documents.
00:38In Afghanistan, a six-magnitude earthquake shook eastern part of the country near the Pakistan border, leaving more than 600 people dead and many more injured.
00:58Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dresos Studios in Havana, Cuba. We'll begin with the news.
01:08The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, CELAC, whose pro-temporary presidency currently rests in Colombia, has called for an emergency meeting for this Monday in view of the deployment of United States military vessels in the Caribbean.
01:33According to the communique of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the objective of this virtual meeting would be to exchange reflections on the current situation and to make reference to the possible implications of the military movements promoted by the U.S., Department of State, and their effects on peace, security and regional stability.
01:53For the last two weeks, the U.S. has been threatening several Latin American and Caribbean nations. Some governments have expressed rejection and concern while others have preferred to violate international agreements in order to place themselves at the orders of imperialism.
02:09In Venezuela, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez has reaffirmed in a call to the world the need to consolidate a multipolar world and prevent barbarism from prevailing.
02:33Padrino Lopez said this after a meeting to control and oversee the military operations that preserve the Bolivarian territory from external threats as serious as foreign military and mercenary incursions and drug trafficking operations.
02:49In this context, the defense minister referred to the sectors that promote the siege against the country from different fronts and reaffirmed that the nation, along with its people and government, is committed to peace and respect for international laws and treaties.
03:05On Sunday, Colombian police and prosecutors arrested Harold Daniel Bahragan, also known as Harold, who is accused of being one of the perpetrators of the murder of presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay.
03:30According to the authorities, Bahragan participated from the planning to the execution of the attack and even coordinated the location of others involved.
03:39He is the seventh person arrested in an investigation involving 180 experts.
03:44Harold Daniel Bahragan, with a history of drug trafficking and fraud, will face charges of aggravated murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of weapons and use of minors in crimes.
03:54Uribe Turbay was attacked on June 7 in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, and passed away after two months of hospitalization.
04:01In other topics, the 25th Presidential Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization closed on Monday in China with the approval of 24 final documents.
04:21The final declaration confirmed the organization's objectives of uniting the member countries of the global south, strengthening their influence through structure and respectful cooperation, defending the principles of international justice and addressing regional conflicts from a human rights perspective.
04:39Highlights of the event included the establishment of a development bank to facilitate trade, the condemnation of attacks on Iran and Gaza, and the call for international agreements to be protected, and for dialogue and diplomacy to be prioritized at all times.
05:06Also at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, Russian President Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting that underlined the importance of relations between the two countries.
05:17The Indian Prime Minister extended an invitation to President Putin to visit India in December.
05:22He also addressed the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing the need to seek concrete solutions to achieve peace.
05:28For his part, the Russian leader reaffirmed that relations between the two countries are based on a special and privileged strategic partnership with ties that continue to evolve in multiple areas.
05:38Both leaders welcomed the opportunity to exchange ideas and maintained constant contact on issues of mutual interest.
05:45And the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is participating in the Summit of the Heads of States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, that started on Sunday in the Chinese city of Tianjin.
06:04President Erdogan will take this trip as an opportunity to strengthen ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation.
06:11You know soon there, our correspondent has all the details.
06:15Turkey, a President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, arrived on Sunday at the summit, which for Ankara has global significance.
06:22The main theme of the summit is multipolarity, just like last year's BRICS summit.
06:27This multipolarity discourse causes the biggest headache for the United States.
06:32Because it means polycentrism, polyphony, and a new world order in which imposing and interventionist policies are no longer valid.
06:39It means strong united nations.
06:42That is why Turkey considers the organization one of the most important platforms.
06:47Turkey is a dialogue partner of the organization, but the personal involvement of President Erdogan attracts attention.
06:54Turkey is not yet a member of the organization, but we know there are efforts to join.
07:00President Erdogan had declared this intention earlier.
07:03His personal participation in the summit indicates that from now on Turkey will be an important player in the global south.
07:10Prior to the summit, President Erdogan published an article in the People's Daily newspaper, the organ of the Communist Party of China, entitled A Shared Path to Peace and Justice.
07:24Both countries, Turkey and China, seek a world system with a strong organization of solid nations at its center, as part of multipolarity.
07:33Turkey proposes to leave the Security Council and represent all countries equally, with equal power.
07:39In his article, Erdogan reports on his efforts to mediate in the Ukrainian conflict, and emphasizes Turkey's steps towards the establishment of a Palestinian state.
07:49The President began his trip with a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
07:56Turkish-Chinese relations have been progressing in recent years.
08:00There is a historical twinning, a joint civilization.
08:03They are expected to deepen further.
08:05We received news of new direct Chinese investments in Turkey.
08:10The Turkish President is expected to have more bilateral meetings during the summit, including with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
08:21There were some small doubts in the Turkish-Russian relations.
08:25The leaders are going to refresh their confidence at the meeting.
08:28With Modi, there will possibly be a brief meeting in which President Erdogan invites the Prime Minister to visit Turkey.
08:37President Erdogan visits China for the first time since five years, and on Monday, September 1, he will participate in the Shanghai Plus Summit, where he will give a speech.
08:47The President is expected to comment on the world system and issues of war and peace around Turkey.

09:08Welcome back.
09:28Welcome back.
09:29In Egypt, a serious train derailment on the route from Marsa Matru to Alexandria left at least three dead and over 100 injured.
09:37At least three people have died and 103 have been injured in the preliminary toll of the derailment involving seven carriages on the route.
09:45The accident, which occurred in a desert area due to a ground collapse, caused two cars to overturn and trigger a massive emergency response.
09:54Authorities reported that regional hospitals are on high alert with more than 50 ambulances deployed to transport and assist victims while search and identification efforts continue.
10:15A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, causing a humanitarian tragedy with hundreds of casualties.
10:29Initial reports estimate that the earthquake has killed more than 800 people and injured over 2,500 others.
10:35The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 27 kilometers east-northeast of Jalalabad in a mountainous region bordering Pakistan.
10:45Authorities warned that these numbers could increase as rescue teams continued their work.
10:50According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake's shallow depth of only eight kilometers below the surface intensified its destructive effects, causing considerable damage to villages and communities in the region.
11:02After shocks, some with a magnitude of up to 5.2, have caused panic and hindered rescue efforts.
11:19And in Pakistan, at least 33 people have died and 2 million others have been affected by the worst floods in the history of the Punjab region.
11:26Although it is detailed that rivers are reaching record highs and as a consequence of global warming, monsoon rains have worsened causing flash floods and landslides in the mountainous northern and northwestern regions of the country in the last month.
11:41In this sense, the inhabitants of the affected areas were evacuated while the Civil Defense set up 365 relief camps to protect the affected people in a massive rescue and evacuation operation.
11:52And Spain experiences worse summer of fires in a decade. More than 400,000 hectares have burned according to the Copernicus satellite system.
12:11Four firefighters have lost their lives in firefighting efforts and more than 30,000 people have been evacuated.
12:16Data confirms that 2025 is already the most devastating year in three decades. Galicia and Castilla and Leon have been the worst affected and active fires continue in several areas of these regions. The situation has triggered a bitter political debate with the popular party calling the head of civil protection, Virginia Barcones, a pyromaniac.
12:37I believe that hope at this time is already in the hearts of all those who are involved, seeing that the weather has given us a break, that it has finally begun to work in favor of extinguishing the fires and that we can see the end much closer now.
12:56The minister of the interior, Fernando Granmar Lasca has responded to criticism from the right which seeks to blame the central government even though forest management and prevention are regional responsibilities.
13:08I cannot agree with the partisan use of the Senate and a catastrophe such as the one we are experiencing to serve the interests of a party and its strategy of harassing and overthrowing the government, often based on manipulation and noise.
13:25Meanwhile, forest firefighters denounce a precarious situation due to neoliberal subcontracting, they point out that they have become multi-emergency corps and their workloads have increased but their working conditions have not improved.
13:38Well, I have been working for a private company for almost twenty years, now I have been with a public company for four years, I thought we would improve considerably, but that has not been the case.
13:48In the end, business criteria prevail, I have yet to try direct management by the administration, which we believe is the best formula.
13:55In the midst of negotiations, the community of Madrid, governed by Isabel Díez Iruso, is trying to avoid responsibility by passing it on to the public company TRAGSA instead of opting for direct management.
14:07That company agreement is the option that the public company TRAGSA should consider.
14:12What we do is provide a future ecosystem to make it much easier to achieve better conditions for workers.
14:18Mistrust is also growing among the population, some suspect that the fires are not simply accidental but that there are hidden agendas behind them.
14:27I would say that from my point of view, I don't know if they are caused by someone with power and so on, but I think the fires are provoked.
14:35With more than 400,000 hectares devoured by fire and tens of thousands of people evacuated, Spain is facing a tragedy that is not only destroying forests and lives, but also exposing the limits of a model of privatization and cutbacks.
14:49Forest firefighters announce a large protest for October 18th in Madrid to challenge the lack of prevention and precarious working conditions.
14:56In this context, the Spanish government has terminated the emergency situation in force for several weeks due to the strong fires that claimed the lives of four people.
15:07On Sunday, only three fires were active simultaneously, a number considerably lower than 20 fires that were active at the most critical moment of the emergency.
15:15The head of civil protection, Virginia Barcones, assured that although the situation was practically under control, nobody can lower their guard because this event could be repeated.
15:25Due to dangerous temperatures and the scarce rains. Therefore, it is necessary that both the authorities and the population remain alert.
15:32We now have our second and final show break coming up. Before we invite you to join us as we tour Cuba in search of community projects that work every day for the country's present and future.
15:52The Q1 way from Monday to Friday for 30 p.m. Caracas and Habana Time, only on Telesur.
16:22Welcome back. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees has warned that more than 660,000 children have been deprived of schooling for a third consecutive year.
16:29UNRWA warned that the war in Gaza is a war on children and it must stop, noting that the besieged region's youth are at risk of becoming a lost generation.
16:36The Palestinian education ministry said around 700,000 students in the blockaded strip have seen their schooling suspended under incessant bombardment by the Israeli invading
16:43forces. Israeli attacks since October 2023 have killed at least 17,000 school students and more than 1,000 children have been deprived of schooling for a third consecutive year.
16:50UNRWA warned that it must stop, noting that the besieged region's youth are at risk of becoming a lost generation.
16:57The Palestinian education ministry said around 700,000 students in the blockaded strip have seen their schooling suspended under incessant bombardment by the Israeli invading forces.
17:07Israeli attacks since October 2023 have killed at least 17,000 school students and more than 1,200 university students in Gaza while injuring tens of thousands more.
17:18Additionally, nearly a thousand educational workers have been killed in Gaza and thousands more injured or detained across the besieged strip.
17:27Israeli attacks since October 2023 have been killed in Gaza.
17:37And in Palestine, many residents of the city of Gaza are choosing to stay in the city despite the ongoing genocide being carried out by the Israeli army and government in the country.
17:46Gaza City was the most populous city in Palestine until the escalation of violence on October 7, 2023, with a population of approximately 700,000 citizens.
18:00About the same as Washington, D.C. today, part of the population is displaced or has died due to the crimes of Benjamin Netanyahu's government.
18:09Faced with terrible shortages and the constant presence of death, many citizens have chosen to leave the region, a difficult prospect for some who for various reasons have not been able to do so.
18:22Where are we going to go? If we want to leave, where are we going to go? You can see that all the areas have no space.
18:28There are people who were displaced yesterday and paid for transportation as much as 2,000 shekels, and then they came back to find that their place has been taken.
18:38There is no space, even if jets drop leaflets asking us to leave, and we don't find a place, we will not leave. If they want to hit us, let them, we die every day.
18:49The population in the region is facing an unprecedented health crisis, in addition to not having enough food and supplies.
18:56For many sick or elderly people, death is almost guaranteed, either at the hands of the Israeli army or due to severe shortages.
19:09There is no food, no medicine, no water. I am a cancer patient, and I wish to eat an apple or fruit or tomato.
19:22There isn't, there isn't, life is difficult, and Gaza has been destroyed completely. It's gone.
19:34Some residents have already been forcibly or voluntarily displaced in the past, and it is a destiny they do not wish to repeat, either because they know it is very difficult to put their families through the same experience again, or because finding a place that is not in a similar situation is complicated.
19:57I have no plans to leave. We are tired from the first displacement. Where are we going to go? Is there a place in the south? We cannot find it. It's good that I found this place and settled here. I have no plans to leave, and my daughters tell me every day, let's leave, mother, or we will die here. Life is one, and God is one. We will die there, and we will die here. Let me stay here in Gaza. It's better.
20:17We will die here. We will die here, because displacement is very difficult. We were displaced to the south before, and displacement in the south is not simple, and it is costly. We were displaced to Rafa, dear Albala, and Zawada, and life is very difficult. Life is difficult, so we will stay in our home, and whatever God wants will happen.
20:39Since the intensification of the violence in the region in October 7, 2023, the 22-month conflict has left more than 63,000 people dead in the Gaza Strip.
20:53The Lebanese parliament denounced that the Israeli regime continues to systematically violate the truce established in November 2024, with air incursions and constant attacks in the southern part of the country, despite the ceasefire agreement.
21:10The Israeli violations include bombings and occupation of territories at the border, which have caused thousands of Lebanese civilians to be unable to return to their homes.
21:19In response, the parliament reaffirmed the right to resistance, vital for national sovereignty, defending the legitimacy of armed groups that protect the country against these aggressions.
21:30Meanwhile, the Lebanese government has advanced plans to disarm non-state groups like Hezbollah, although this organization and its allies, including parliamentary voices, reject the initiative and emphasize that armed resistance is a key element of national defense.
21:49And the Houthis have begun to take action against Israel, the Israeli regime, after its genocidal forces killed Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi.
22:01The first phase of the Houthis strategy consists of resuming attacks on ships sailing between the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea, specifically those headed for Israel.
22:10The first target was the oil tanker Scarlet Ray, owned by the Zionists and flying the Librarian flag.
22:16The military offensive struck the ship with ballistic missiles while it was sailing in the northern Red Sea.
22:22The Yemeni interim Prime Minister Mohamed Mufta, after confirming that they will not back down in their support for Gaza,
22:27assuring his first statement that they are prepared for sacrifice and to fulfill their duty.
22:42The United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, expressed her support for the humanitarian flotilla
22:50that departed from Barcelona, Spain, heading for Gaza in an attempt to break the Israeli blockade.
22:55On social media, Albanese described the expedition's activists as moral warriors
23:00and denounced the international community's silence in the face of the Genosidal War against Palestinians.
23:05The UN rapporteur pointed out that when hospitals, schools and educational centers are bombed,
23:10the main objective is to destroy the people. That is, it is a war of extermination.
23:16The mission called Global Sumut Flotilla is comprised of more than 20 ships
23:21with hundreds of volunteers from more than 40 countries and seeks to open a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.
23:37And in Venezuela, citizens mobilized in support of the Global Sumut Flotilla,
23:41which departed on route to Gaza to break the Israeli siege of the Palestinian enclave.
23:45After gathering more than 300 tons of supplies, the international global mission Sumut Flotilla,
23:51the largest civilian initiative organized so far to establish a humanitarian corridor to the Gaza Strip,
23:57departed from the port of Barcelona.
24:00In Venezuela, activists and social organizations celebrated the departure with flags and slogans
24:04in solidarity with the Arab nation.
24:07They also condemned the famine crisis caused by Israel in the Palestinian territories.
24:10They also condemned the border from the Gaza Strip and the United States.
24:18They also condemned the border to the Gaza Strip, which was in the United States.
