00:20U.S. President Donald Trump deployed 800 soldiers of the National Guard in Washington, D.C.
00:26Monday as part of his promise to crack down on crime and homelessness in the nation's capital.
00:37And Palestinians in Gaza City held a funeral to honor the six Al Jazeera journalists and two civilians killed by an Israeli drone attack on Sunday.
00:51Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:55We begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:09The Venezuelan government reaffirmed the dignity of the people in the face of U.S. threats
01:13and criminalization attempts against Constitutional President Nicolás Maduro.
01:18Venezuelan Vice President Delsi Rodriguez warned that the South American nation
01:22has an organized, conscious, and empowered people and government willing to defend peace and willing to defend sovereignty.
01:30The Vice President denounced the U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi's statement
01:34as part of imperialist strategies to destabilize governments that do not respond to U.S. interests.
01:40Rodriguez also emphasized that with these policies,
01:44Washington is only trying to justify invasions, assassinations,
01:48and humanitarian crises around the world.
02:01Public authorities in Venezuela have condemned the U.S. government's latest attacks on President Nicolás Maduro.
02:08The Secretary General of the PSUV, Diosdado Cabello, denounced attempts by extremist Western forces
02:14to subdue the will of the people and the Bolivarian revolution
02:18by threatening and falsely accusing the head of state.
02:22Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Justice has reaffirmed its position against these imperialist attacks.
02:28In a recent statement, the body emphasized that Venezuelan institutions
02:32are constantly evolving to meet the needs of the nation.
02:36and these institutions are strengthened by the active participation of organized people's power,
02:43which monitors legality and promotes general welfare in strict accordance with the Constitution and the laws.
02:49The anti-fascist international of Uruguay expressed its support for Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro
03:04following the reward announced by Washington.
03:07Through a statement, the organization expressed the following,
03:10false accusations as a method to bring down non-like-minded governments
03:15is one of the most common practices of the U.S.
03:18It also called on the people and governments of our continent
03:22to denounce these imperialist actions
03:24and provide their solidarity with President Maduro and his Bolivarian political process.
03:30Otherwise, it would not only be abandoning the Venezuelan people
03:34but also giving up the very possibility of developing sovereign processes in our countries
03:40and even avoiding war on our continent.
03:42Alba movements expressed the rejection of President Donald Trump's attempted military attacks against Venezuela.
03:55In a statement, the Alba movements assured,
03:58the U.S. government has increased the reward for the capture of President Nicolás Maduro-Moros.
04:03This crude imperialist action is accompanied by another of equal or worse caliber.
04:10The United States now decreased the existence of the so-called Cartel of the Sons,
04:15an alleged drug trafficking gang with no physical presence in any international market
04:20nor with paramilitary forces as other cartels supported by the DIA in Ecuador have.
04:26The communique adds the creation of this fantasy serves one purpose.
04:31The U.S. government authorizes its military to take action against this alleged group
04:35which, according to its narrative, coincidentally operates in Venezuela.
04:40With this strategy, Donald Trump's imperialist government is offering a 50 million U.S. dollar reward
04:46for the head of President Nicolás Maduro
04:49for allegedly being the leader of this non-existent cartel.
04:53According to the organization,
04:54this proposal is addressed especially to mercenary groups
04:57that have been trying to attack Venezuela and its president for more than a decade.
05:02The message is clear.
05:04The U.S. government wants to break Venezuela's democracy and sovereignty by military means.
05:09We call on the peoples of the world to condemn this imperialist attack,
05:13to demand that governments reject this interventionist action
05:16and to urge everyone to be alert to the threat posed by the U.S. government
05:21which continues to plague the continent and the world with misery and violence.
05:26And the Women's International Democratic Federation expressed Monday its solidarity
05:38with Venezuela and its president Nicolás Maduro
05:40in the face of the new threats by the U.S. government
05:43and accused Washington of trying to undermine the self-determination of the Venezuelan people.
05:48In an official communique, the international organization said
05:52this announcement is a ridiculous media money-over full of aggressiveness
05:57which intends to destabilize the Bolivarian revolution.
06:01It is a serious abuse and an attack on the integrity of President Maduro
06:05and the self-determination of the Venezuelan people.
06:08The text expressed that Venezuela decided freely and with transparency at the polls
06:14to elect Nicolás Maduro as President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
06:18in recognition of his leadership at the helm of the country
06:22which today enjoys excellent economic and social results
06:26as well as a new mechanism of consultation and citizen participation.
06:31It finally demands the end of the campaign of aggression and defamation
06:36against comrade Nicolás Maduro
06:37and calls the U.S. government to stop its interference in the region
06:41and to respect the people's right to self-determination and to peace.
06:54And now we go live to Venezuela
06:56where the people is mobilizing as part of the great anti-imperialist march
07:00for peace and against the narco-terrorism of the fascist far right.
07:04We are seeing live images that shows with this demonstration
07:07that the people is showing its unconditional support
07:11for the head of state for President Nicolás Maduro
07:14democratically elected one year ago precisely
07:17and the people is also expressing the rejection of the attempts of the threats
07:22of the attempt to intervene in the internal policies of the country
07:26in a manoeuvre performed and perpetrated by the U.S. government.
07:31This is a moment in which the people is showing the determination
07:35in defending peace, in defending stability,
07:38also in defending the social achievements
07:40that have been put forward by the government of President Nicolás Maduro
07:45in a march that comes after the U.S. Attorney General Pan Bondi
07:50offered a reward of 50 million U.S. dollars
07:52for the capture of President Maduro
07:54based on lies on false accusations of links to drug trafficking.
08:01And also we stay on topic, Venezuela submitted a new document yesterday
08:16to the International Court of Justice in the Netherlands
08:19ratifying its sovereignty over the territory of the Guyanesequiva.
08:24Venezuelan Vice President Telsi Rodriguez indicated
08:27that the Presidential Commission for the Defense of the Guyanesequiva
08:30had presented a 50-volume document
08:33that contained sufficient evidence
08:35regarding the historical truth of Venezuela's claim over the territory.
08:40Rodriguez pointed out that the text contains
08:42the background for the territory's criminal removal
08:45that began with an arbitrary award of 1899.
08:49The document also ratifies the legality of the 1966 Geneva Treaty
08:54as the only means to resolve the conflict between Venezuela and Guyana.
09:08Let's go over some of the main points of the statement that reads Venezuela
09:13has once again demonstrated the solid legal and factual reasons
09:17behind its irrevocable historical position of not submitting to third parties,
09:23including the International Court of Justice,
09:25matters related to its vital interests such as its independence and territorial integrity.
09:31It continues,
09:32This document reaffirms the mandate of the Venezuelan people expressed in the December 3rd, 2023 referendum
09:40not to recognize the International Court of Justice nor any other judicial body
09:45to resolve this territorial controversy.
09:48Consequently, we do not recognize under any circumstances
09:51the fraudulent judicial process initiated by Guyana,
09:55nor will we abide by any ruling that may be issued in this matter.
10:00The submitted document indisputably establishes the collusion
10:04between the British Empire of the time and the United States of America
10:08to disregard Venezuela's historical titles
10:10and attempt to deprive it of this territory
10:13which has belonged to Venezuela since its birth.
10:16Likewise, the document fully demonstrates that the 1966 Geneva Agreement
10:20is the only legal instrument binding Venezuela and Guyana
10:24to resolve the territorial controversy
10:26through a practical, satisfactory and acceptable arrangement for both parties.
10:38Colombian senator and presidential precandidate Miguel Uribe Turbay
10:42passed away on Monday after several days in critical state.
10:46The day before, Uribe had undergone emergency surgery
10:50at the FundaciĂłn Santa Fe clinic
10:52where he remained hospitalized after suffering a setback in his recovery
10:56to attempt a hemorrhage in the nervous system.
11:00Thirty-eight-year-old Uribe, who was running in the upcoming presidential elections in Colombia,
11:06was shot three times, twice in the head, in an attack during a campaign rally in the city of Bogotá.
11:12On June 7, he remained in an intensive care unit for more than two months,
11:17with episodes of slight improvement.
11:20In this context, Colombian president Gustavo Petro sent condolences
11:32to Miguel Uribe's family and friends.
11:34On X, the head of state said that life is above any ideology.
11:39In a progressive, life-loving government,
11:41an attempt against an opposition senator took place with a tragic end.
11:45The reasons behind it, still under investigation,
11:48point to a point of a point that the president
11:50has a different path than what was initially implied.
11:53The investigation must go deeper,
11:55and the corresponding authorities, with the help of international experts,
11:59will be the ones to do so.
12:01The government must reject the crime and provide help,
12:04no matter the ideology, a citizen and his family.
12:07His life and safety are the utmost priority for the government.
12:11We have not persecuted any opposition member, nor we will ever.
12:15Vengeance is not the path of Colombia, it is
12:18due to vengeance that we are experiencing decades of violence.
12:22No more.

12:51U.S. President Donald Trump deployed 800 soldiers of the National Guard in Washington, D.C. on Monday,
12:58as part of his promise to crack down on crime and homelessness in the nation's capital.
13:03The president's decision was announced in an executive order and follows his recent claim
13:08that the city had been taken over by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals.
13:13The Trump administration has also put Washington's police under federal control.
13:17And on the other hand, D.C. Major Muriel Bowser rejected Trump's claim, saying that violent crimes in the capital has hit a 30-year-old low.
13:26Trump's decision is unprecedented as it puts the White House deep into the day-to-day management of one of the nation's largest municipal police forces.
13:36Our capital city has been overtaken by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth,
13:48drugged-out maniacs and homeless people.
13:51And we're not going to let it happen anymore. We're not going to take it.
13:55The Metropolitan Police Department and the federal authorities will be supported in the effort, a really big effort,
14:02to the 800 D.C. National Guardsmen that we'll put on, and much more if necessary.
14:10In Brazil, the 22nd edition of the Agroecological Conference of the Landless Rural Workers Movement, MST,
14:17concluded in the state of Paraná.
14:20More than 100 exhibitors participated in the event with the aim of highlighting the importance of producing food free of agricultural toxics
14:28and genetically modified organisms, as well as building a more just and sustainable future.
14:34At the end of the day, participants planted olive trees in tribute and solidarity with the Palestinian people
14:40in the face of the constant Israeli attacks on Gaza.
14:44The topics discussed at the fair will be taken to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change,
14:50which will take place in the nation on November.
14:52In Haiti, the government established a three-month state of emergency in several parts of the country
15:06as the fight against violence from criminal groups intensified.
15:10In a statement issued this Saturday, the government announced that the measure will cover departments to the west and centre
15:17and Arti Bonit, the latter, experiencing a significant increase in attacks by armed groups in recent months.
15:23The document stated that given the magnitude of this crisis,
15:27it is essential to decree a major mobilisation of state resources and institutional means to address it.
15:33Powerful armed groups, often linked to the country's business and political leaders,
15:38have been competing for influence and control of territory for years, affecting the lives of millions of people.

16:35Palestinians in Ghazi City held a funeral to honour the six Al Jazeera journalists
16:39and two civilians killed by an Israeli drone attack on Sunday.
16:43Mourners took part in a funeral procession, taking the bodies of the slain martyrs from the Archiva Hospital to the Cemetery for Bureau.
16:52The Gaza Information Office offered condolences to the victims' families and wished a speed of recovery to the wounded.
16:58The media professionals were killed while covering the devastation of the military offensive in Gaza.
17:05Sionist forces have killed more than 230 journalists and media workers
17:09since they began their bombings in the Palestinian enclave in order to silence and hide their atrocities.
17:15Each time Israeli forces target our fellow journalists, it strengthens our resolve to continue reporting.
17:29We are talking about the systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists,
17:34moving from direct threats to carrying out the threat, and killing so many in plain sight of the entire world.
17:40This is a systematic Israeli policy of killing Palestinians,
17:46especially the Palestinian journalists who themselves were arrested and injured.
17:54And a large civilian flotilla is set to sail to Gaza at the end of August,
17:58carrying necessary supplies in a new attempt to break the humanitarian aid blockade imposed by the Israeli regime
18:04and to confront the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.
18:07The mission is organized by four groups,
18:10the Maghreb Sumut Flotilla, the Global Movement to Gaza, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, and Sumut Nusantara.
18:17The initiative is set to send dozens of boats from Spanish ports on August 31st and Tunisian ports on September 4th.
18:25Activists from 44 countries, including environmental activist Greta Thunberg,
18:30who made the announcement on her social media, will be on board.
18:34The last attempt to break the Israeli siege on the enclave was that of Bessel Handala,
18:40which was intercepted by Tel Aviv's naval forces on July 26th.
