Paura di Putin? «Non ho certo pensato a ripercussioni, mi sono messo nelle mani di Olivier per raccontare senza polemiche un personaggio all'interno di una storia molto più grande». Così Jude Law parla al Lido del film "Il Mago del Cremlino" di Olivier Assayas, con anche Paul Dano e Alicia Vikander nel cast, passato oggi in concorso all'82esima Mostra del Cinema di Venezia.

La pellicola, tratta dal romanzo di Giuliano da Empoli, con la sceneggiatura scritta dal regista insieme ad Emmanuel Carrère, racconta, tra verità e finzione, l'ascesa di Putin (Jude Law) attraverso le vicende del suo spin doctor Vadim Baranov (Paul Dano), ispirato al suo ex consigliere Vladislav Surkov.. E ancora l'attore, parlando della difficoltà più grande nell'interpretare il presidente della Russia: «La cosa più difficile è stato rappresentare il suo volto pubblico da cui non trapela nulla e mostrare comunque emozioni. 00:11Yeah, it's the character of Vladimir Putin within a story context. So I was freed quite early on by Olivier that it wasn't about making assertive statements. It was about playing a part in a story and the story provoking or demonstrating the machinations of politics and that being the part.
00:41The point of debate and question and conversation, starting conversation. You know, any good story looks at characters' emotion and transition and relationships are always key. And what was at the heart of this was the transformation of Baranov, but also, as Paul just said, the influence on each other, of this role of power, I suppose, and seeing the two of them
01:10very different men watching, learning and morphing together. And I suppose at the heart of that is the statement of the film.
