00:00Dear Tim and Moby, can you tell me about dinosaurs?
00:07From Major Jamie.
00:08Oh yeah.
00:09The word dinosaur means terrible lizard.
00:12The first dinosaurs evolved from early reptiles around 230 million years ago.
00:17Scientists have been able to find out a lot about dinosaurs just by studying their fossilized bones and eggs.
00:22Their footprints and droppings too.
00:24These clues give scientists a really basic idea of how dinosaurs looked and behaved, but there are still many mysteries.
00:30Hey Moby, is your time machine working yet?
00:40Nope, we gotta go back much further.
00:45Cool.
00:46Dinosaurs came in all shapes and sizes.
00:49Some walked on two legs and some on four.
00:51Some were fast and others were not so fast.
00:54You could find dinosaurs with thick bumpy skin or plates or frills or horns.
00:59The biggest dinosaurs grew to be about 50 feet tall and over 100 feet long.
01:04And the littlest dinosaurs were the size of chickens.
01:09Oh, don't worry Moby, she's an herbivore.
01:11That means she eats plants.
01:12It's the carnivores we have to watch out for.
01:14They eat meat.
01:16That's the reason for all those horns and plates.
01:18Defense.
01:19The dinosaurs ruled the earth for over 120 million years.
01:21They've been called the most successful land animals ever.
01:25Then, around 65 million years ago, the dinosaurs suddenly died out.
01:29No one is totally sure why, but a lot of scientists think it had something to do with that asteroid.
01:35Well, there's a lot of evidence to support the theory that the earth was struck by a huge rocket around the same time the dinosaurs bought the farm.
01:40Such a massive impact would have kicked up enough dust to block out the sun for a very long time.
01:49Global temperatures would have dropped sharply.
01:51And food would have been in short supply.
01:54That might have done it.
01:55Dinosaurs aren't totally gone though.
01:57Scientists believe that some of them might have evolved into birds.
02:00Uh, he's not an herbivore.
02:06So, let's go.
02:07No, I mean really, let's go.
02:09Now, the word dinosaur means terrible lizard.
02:13Oh, hey Tim, I know what you're planning to do and it's a bad idea.
