00:00I can't wait to go trick-or-treating.
00:16I love your Halloween costume, Moby.
00:22How did Halloween start?
00:28Halloween was first celebrated over 2,000 years ago in Europe,
00:34in the area that is now Great Britain and Ireland.
00:40A group of people called the Celts lived there.
00:44On the last day of October, they celebrated the end of the harvest with a holiday called Samhain.
00:54The Celts believed that on Samhain, ghosts came and killed crops.
01:00So they left out food for the spirits to keep them happy.
01:06And wore masks and costumes during their celebrations.
01:10As people moved around and brought different religions and traditions, holidays were added and changed.
01:20November 2 became All Souls Day, a holiday to honor the dead.
01:28And November 1 became All Saints Day, or All Hallows Day, a holiday to remember saints.
01:36October 31 became All Hallows Eve, the evening before All Hallows Day.
01:42The name got shortened to Halloween.
01:46How do some people celebrate Halloween today?
01:50Well, people still dress up in costumes.
02:00People still give out food too.
02:02Trick or treat!
02:04People give out candy or small snacks.
02:08Some trick or treaters also collect money to donate to a charity.
02:14A charity is a special group that does good things for a community.
02:20One Halloween tradition is to carve pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns.
02:26I love to read scary books and tell ghost stories around Halloween.
02:32Many of the foods we eat to celebrate Halloween are related to the fall harvest.
02:42Like pumpkin pie and pumpkin seeds, nuts, and popcorn.
02:50We also bob for apples.
02:56How can you stay safe on Halloween?
03:00Halloween is a fun holiday, but since you're out at night, it's important to be safe.
03:07If you're wearing a mask, make sure you can see well or remove it to cross the street.
03:15Try not to wear all dark clothes so you can be spotted easily.
03:21Always go out with a grown-up or a responsible sibling.
03:29Good idea, Moby.
03:34It's good to carry a flashlight to help you see at night.
03:39Never go into people's houses unless you know them.
03:44Make sure you eat only food that is wrapped well.
03:51It's not healthy to eat too much sugar at once, so spread your treats out over time.
04:10Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.
04:14So, Moby, do you want a trick or a treat?
04:20Here's a treat.
04:22And here's a trick.
04:24You're so funny.
04:26See you next time.

04:31You are a jerk.
04:33I'm fine.
04:34You really want to try.
04:36See you next time.
