It turns drier and clear for many central and eastern parts of UK. However, further showers are moving in further west, merging into longer spells of rain across Scotland during the early hours, especially in southwest Scotland where we have a yellow warning coming into force. A fairly mild night. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 31/08/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Craig Snell.

00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Autumn is certainly going to start on an unsettled note across the UK.
00:07We still have low pressure firmly in charge across the country.
00:11We will eventually say goodbye to this area of low pressure later on Monday and into Tuesday,
00:16but that will be quickly replaced by further areas of low pressure.
00:19And all in all, as we go through the course of this week ahead, it's generally going to remain unsettled.
00:23Most of us seeing some further rain at times with temperatures around where they should be for the beginning of September.
00:30Back to the here and now for the end of the weekend.
00:32Actually, for many central and eastern parts of the UK, it turns dry and clear.
00:36But out towards the west, we continue to see further showers moving,
00:40and then showers will begin to merge into a longer spell of rain across Scotland during the early hours.
00:44Especially for southwestern Scotland, we do have a warning coming into force here during the early hours.
00:49There could be some fairly poor travelling conditions, lots of surface spray on the road,
00:53so do take some extra care for your journeys.
00:56But for most of us, it would be a fairly mild night.
00:58Temperatures in most towns and cities staying in double figures.
01:02So we start Monday off on a bright note across some eastern areas with some sunshine,
01:07but cloud will quickly bubble up here.
01:09At the same time, the rain across Scotland will gradually move away to the east.
01:13And all in always, we head towards the afternoon,
01:15most of us seeing a mixture of sunshine and scattered showers.
01:18Some of these showers will be on the heavy side,
01:20maybe the odd rumble of thunder and some hail mixed into some of them too.
01:23But they will be moving through steadily on a fairly brisk wind.
01:27In the brighter moments, it won't feel too bad out there for early September.
01:31We will see highs in some places reaching around 20 or 21 degrees.
01:36Into the evening hours, the showers will begin to fade away across eastern parts of the country.
01:40So here, it will turn a little bit drier as we go through the course of the night.
01:44Further west, we'll continue to see some further showers move in.
01:47And then later on in the night, a more persistent band of rain arriving into the west country.
01:53I think overall temperatures will be slightly cooler than Sunday night.
01:58But I think most towns and cities, again, staying in double figures.
02:02So on Tuesday, most of us starting off with some sunshine around.
02:05But the rain across the west country will spread its way eastwards across many parts of England and Wales throughout the day.
02:11Some of this rain will be quite heavy and persistent and overall quite a wet picture for some of us.
02:16For Scotland, Northern Ireland, the far north of Northern England,
02:18we just continue the mix of sunshine and scattered showers.
02:21With maybe some sunshine returning later on in the day across the far southwest,
02:25but still the risk of some heavy showers here.
02:29Temperatures on Tuesday, again, very similar to what we will see on Monday.
02:33So highs reaching around 17 to around 20 or 21 degrees across the south.
02:39And this unsettled regime will continue as we go through the rest of the working week.
02:44But you can find out more information about that on our social media channels.
02:47But from me for now, take care and I'll see you again soon.
