31 August - National weather forecast presented by Craig Snell.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Autumn
00:04is certainly going to start on an unsettled note across the UK. We still
00:08have low pressure firmly in charge across the country. We will eventually say
00:12goodbye to this area of low pressure later on Monday and into Tuesday but
00:16that'll be quickly replaced by further areas of low pressure and all in all as
00:19we go through the course of this week ahead it's generally going to remain
00:22unsettled. Most of us seeing some further rain at times with temperatures around
00:26where they should be for the beginning of September. Back to the here and now for
00:31the end of the weekend actually for many central and eastern parts of the UK it
00:35turns dry and clear but that towards the west we continue to see further showers
00:39moving and then showers will begin to merge into a longer spell of rain across
00:43Scotland during the early hours especially for southwestern Scotland we
00:46do have a warning coming into force here during the early hours there could be
00:49some fairly poor travelling conditions lots of surface spray on the road so do
00:53take some extra care for your journeys. But for most of us it'd be a fairly mild
00:58night temperatures in most towns and cities staying in double figures. So we
01:03start Monday off on a bright note across some eastern areas with some sunshine but
01:07cloud will quickly bubble up here at the same time the rain across Scotland will
01:10gradually move away to the east and all in always we head towards the
01:14afternoon most of us seeing a mixture of sunshine and scattered showers. Some
01:18of these showers will be on the heavy side maybe the odd rumble of thunder and
01:22some hail mixed into some of them too but they will be moving through steadily
01:26on a fairly brisk wind. In the brighter moments it won't feel too bad out there
01:30for early September we will see highs in some places reaching around 20 or 21
01:35degrees. Into the evening hours the showers will begin to fade away across
01:39eastern parts of the country so here it will turn a little bit drier as we go
01:43through the course of the night. Further west we'll continue to see some
01:46further showers move in and then later on in the night a more persistent band of
01:50rain arriving into the west country. I think overall temperatures will be a
01:55slightly cooler than Sunday night but I think most towns and cities again
02:00staying in double figures. So on Tuesday most of us starting off with some
02:04sunshine around but the rain across the west country will spread its way
02:08eastwards across many parts of England and Wales throughout the day. Some of this
02:11rain will be quite heavy and persistent and overall quite a wet picture for some of
02:15us. For Scotland, Northern Ireland, the far north of Northern England we just
02:19continue the mix of sunshine and scattered showers with maybe some sunshine
02:22returning later on in the day across the far southwest but still the risk of
02:27some heavy showers here. Temperatures on Tuesday again very similar to what we
02:31will see on Monday so highs reaching around 17 to around 20 or 21 degrees
02:37across the south. And this unsettled regime will continue as we go through the
02:42rest of the working week but you can find out more information about that on our
02:46social media channels. But for me for now take care and I'll see you again soon.
