00:00I don't think that the government is going to be able to close all of the asylum hotels by 2029.
00:06They need more and more places every week because larger and larger numbers of people are crossing the channel illegally.
00:14And the government doesn't have any solution to that problem. Until it does, the problem is going to get worse.
00:18And the Conservatives said that should we get back into power, we will create a very meaningful deterrent to those crossings.
00:26We will say that if people cross illegally, they will be immediately deported. They will not stay in the UK.
00:32And we think that that will break the smuggling gangs business model.
00:36And that will mean that we will have much less need for such a style of accommodation.
00:42But the Labour government had that option on the table when it came in. It scrapped it. And it's now in the mess that it's in.
