05:44is this what a nine-to-five job is like dramatic moody and crazy i just picked morganza because
05:56she walks great and if i knew the challenge i might have picked a different model you have
06:01one half hour to meet with them and two days to complete your mission good luck and i see you on
06:08the runway we have an exciting new challenge this wedding dress the one thing that i just want to
06:17assert is i hope that each of you is confident about bringing your own design philosophy and
06:24and sensibility into this challenge and not completely abdicating creative thinking to the model

08:47just she doesn't know she's not a designer you're a good designer everybody else everybody else is trying
08:53to make a model dress and it's all white no yeah it's all white yeah because we have to put a lot of
08:59jewels and jewelry you have really all over this thing i got it all go but the diamonds packed all
09:06over it and it's kind of a little gaudy she's russian go like a car seat right car seat yeah like
09:15yeah of course she's a little too opinionated i just have to make sure she's really satisfied and
09:22happy like a regular customer would be i have to work hard yes okay so i'm gonna make him work
09:29i'm gonna crack the whip and we're gonna do this but i'm just concerned in comparison they're gonna
09:35think mine's like a cop out and simple because they know that we're making that we're making you do
09:39this and if morganza wanted me to make a see-through tank dress for the beach with flip-flops and dirty
09:46hair so i'm like oh my god i do not i i don't want to get eliminated right now because of morganza bye

11:39because it was just so fabulous it's funny i have a different tint on my glasses so this looks like
11:45really like egg color and i actually did design my ex-wife the wedding gown so i kind of take it
11:49close to heart and i understand how important it is for a woman here's the sequence that i picked
11:55it's very pretty do you know how much these are a piece i need a lot of them melissa asked for roses in
12:03her hair wanted the roses in her hands which is tacky and it's not me whatever i can buy how many

14:21this case it's like they really want it to be the way that they want it to be so when you're trying to
14:27execute that for them and they're in more power like it's definitely stressful

14:43no it is i feel that austin is a little bit off his game now when you work with a client
14:52you know you have to tune your energies to your client but austin has one frequency that he operates
14:58on we'll see how that plays out in terms of their collaboration i think it will suffer the front
15:04neckline to sort of almost follow like the natural trait of how this chain one julia's sense of style is
15:11so very different than mine you know i'm sure all the judges are just expecting you know austin scarlett
15:17to come out with like the biggest whitest roughlyest most romantic like white wedding gown that ever was
15:23but uh that's not where they're gonna get i bought this die it's called wine because for a small
15:31amount of money i was able to get hundreds of roses white wine which are all gonna get dyed so everything
15:37that we do is going to be in the construction and the design of the gown basically she just wants
15:42something very simple low cut in the front low cut in the back i do want to show that i can be very
15:49versatile so i was glad that you chose that type of a wedding dress okay we don't need diamonds we
15:53don't need pearls yeah i just don't feel that you should jeopardize your standing here because you
15:59know any of the models want diamonds and flowers let them know that you know you're going to give them
16:04the perfect design that's going to make them look beautiful
16:24more niche does have a very nice beautiful figure so we definitely both decided that it has to be very
16:30form-fitting on her and then we're going to have a big goofy like silk organza skirt that's going to
16:35be removable i'm really happy about this challenge because i've designed a lot of wedding dresses
16:41and formal dresses so i feel really comfortable this color is just not what i thought it was going to be
16:51the dye is of course the wrong color red but i'm just gonna take everything with a grain of salt and
16:57just keep going no matter what happens i learned my lesson last night i came here to compete and
17:03not to be around with by somebody i'm not gonna freak out they're still pretty though but they're not
17:11the color that they're supposed to be i really felt that i came up with a good design for joy and i expect that
17:20it will win wendy her things have always been just like gimmicky silly not flattering she just doesn't
17:31understand you know the basics of design in addition to the fact of being completely out of tune with the
17:37world we have been running just once to all go out all together it's our once chance to like get
17:53dressed up and go out on the town and and just really have fun what are you wearing i'm gonna wear
18:01like studded thong tonight i love to go out i love to go dancing i like to get all dressed up and you
18:10know it's just you know some of my favorite things to do we're here at the touching room apropoli named
18:17night spot i am extremely sexually frustrated robio talks about sex 24 hours a day and like he is so
18:27checking out alexandra with alexandra i mean she's an attractive looking cool specimen there's a
18:35there's like this uh an innocent flirtation it's this kind of fun that i have you know with her this

21:38so i have some things in my head of what i want to do and we're going to discuss i want to put another
21:46layer of mesh but i just want it to be kind of it's like i like it more simple i like it you know the
21:51side things that's fine for me to go on out but for a wedding guest i think it's just too different
21:55these cutouts that i she wanted me to make ended up looking with like fried eggs which is good because
22:01then i don't have to use them i just need these people these judges to understand this you know
22:05and i'll be like why does she have eggs on her hips yeah i don't know that's i'm good you didn't
22:09put them on i have to just put my faith in her for the next 20 hours to keep it under control
22:15because i do not want to go home you weirdo
22:24she comes in and she brings her boyfriend and then everybody's like who is this guy you know
22:29but you said like you want to do like diamonds right that's your big request diamonds
22:34yeah all over maybe fill up a little bit more if you take the small ones
22:40and fill up the space yeah he's like walks in and like well why don't you put this here and he
22:46started taking the diamonds off and rearranging them and stuff and i'm like they don't know that
22:51i'm supposed to do it they think that they're designing the dress hey how are you nice to meet
22:57you too hey is this your fiance this is my boyfriend oh are you going to take out your dress what is
23:03everyone bringing a boyfriend to check in their dress you would think that at least three or four of
23:09them are really getting married they're bringing their boyfriends their fiance's to look at the dress wow

23:30look at you sweetie and then the train's gonna be really big poofy with all these different colors
23:34stunning i don't particularly like the dress austin is making now who's responsible for that
23:41i how could i know it's really pretty it's such such a such a talent no it was her complete talent
23:50it really looks old lady you upset with the lace no i mean i'm okay with the lace like hopefully
23:55if it looks like it kind of looks like an old lady to me she doesn't understand the procedure from the
24:01idea that she has inside the actual garment i think like in between there she gets a little upset

24:17have to do is tell them the fabric is expensive and they'll automatically like it trick of the trade

24:30you're going to work it this is the color issue multi-tonal it was fake i love it flowers came out
24:38more of a purple color i'm actually happier with it now because i think that red rose is a really
24:43literal but this is looking really good i'm really going crazy you guys don't understand i'm worried
25:00about finishing the dust period god only knows what's going to happen at this elimination someone's
25:25gonna get left at the aisle on their wedding day i mean there's always a possibility that i'm out but
25:32my dress is well put together and it's you know as close to what melissa wanted as possible with a
25:40couple of minor adjustments my whole thing since i've been here is i take each challenge at a time
25:46but the only thing that's in the back of my head is is that runway show
25:50today you have until 4 30 to work and to get ready before we have our runway judging and you
25:59all have a lot to do your models need to go to the l'oreal hair and makeup rooms to get prepped for the show
26:04i'm trucking along as fast as i can i mean this train is just basically like puffings and
26:22fillings out so it's not like it has to be this like perfectly pattern made thing with me it usually
26:28all comes together like the last minute oh it's so beautiful i can't believe i'm looking at my like
26:36future wedding dress oh it's beautiful don't cry it feels great it does yeah all right good wow
26:52wow i have to take it up no i like it now i have to take it up a little bit i don't want to see my
27:01shoes the wedding dress and olga were kind of like worrisome i'm not really sure if she was happy with

29:18this week's challenge was about the designer client relationship you needed to keep your client happy
29:25why maintaining your own design philosophies and you will be judged on that
29:32now let's meet the judges men who we all love michael kors hey everyone this week from l magazine we have
29:40fashion news director and slowi and we also have am sala a highly sought after wedding dress designer
29:51our judges will be scoring your designs as they come down the runway
29:54the model who was my client it was very inspiring to me and i really felt that i came up with a good
30:15design for her and i executed it well
30:32i look at the dress and i i do get a little bit worried it's definitely more of her than me in the
30:39dress and i was like damn you know i really created this thing more for her than i did for myself
30:53when my wedding dress went down the runway she looked beautiful
30:59you could tell by her face she was happy with it we worked together very well
31:09i'm not really sure if she was happy with it she wanted more diamonds and i kind of held back on
31:23those i wanted to keep it a little more minimal i don't know it's my job to make her look her best
31:29i felt really good about the dress i think i thought jenny looked beautiful in it
31:42when she said she wanted something very simplistic the first thing i thought is you know like a little
31:46society girl
31:59when julia came out in this wedding gown i knew that they would be like what the hell is that
32:06because it's nothing like a wedding gown in the traditional sense that it's certainly not
32:11a typical thing that i would have designed
32:24i love designing wedding dresses i don't know there's something about it there's a lot more
32:29meaning in a wedding dress than just an everyday dress
32:47it's hard to work with her she's just high maintenance and high drama
32:52started off with her idea but i kind of took it in my own direction
32:59i want to ask all the designers to please come onto the runway

34:29if the model really got what she wanted the wedding dress of her dreams
34:35jenny do you like your dress i'm like the least emotional person and i literally thought i was gonna
34:40cry like when i saw it it's like what i wanted and then like 50 times more how about you morgan i
34:46wanted something comfortable sporty classy she did exactly what i wanted melissa this is exactly what
34:52i wanted it's so close to what i dreamed of as a little girl julia is this the dress you've always
34:59wanted yeah i mean i wanted to go for something um a little unusual i didn't want to go for the classic
35:05white wedding dress um i just feel like that doesn't express me so we really have four happy brides
35:16so michael carson i've got to tell you the dress fits her really gorgeously and i think that you
35:25know fit fabric all together it's it's it's just terrific thank you michael that is a huge compliment
35:32thank you so much what do you like and what do you not like about your design i of course love the
35:43bottom so it's very me i try to really collaborate with her on this she wanted helmet lang and this is
35:50kind of slash okay calvin klein my only concern is that she can't move in the dress that is my only
35:59concern there's not enough there's not enough leg room and it's sweet it's a very tough tough design
36:05issue because standing still you've got a beautiful column i'm not doing a runway walk down my aisle
36:12you weren't doing runway here you weren't able to bad model bad model no no no no austin yes what would
36:21you have done differently probably not too much differently she had sort of a a slightly more
36:29dramatic sort of straight back neckline that i thought would be a little more flattering if it
36:34was sort of this asymmetrical v thing that we have going on it's interesting but i'm having a hard time
36:42imagining it where she's wearing it it's very different but to to the points too different
36:48where do you wear this it really is your job as a professional to be responsible in the end for your
36:57own vision nora what was her brief when you spoke she came to me and said i want something very classic
37:06and traditional and um i think it was pretty successful my reaction looking at the dress is
37:13it's so traditional bridal i think if she went shopping she could probably find this dress
37:20i'm not getting you at all the challenge was give them exactly what they want i think in this instance
37:28you you you tip the scale too much to the client and i think you've always got to hold on to you
37:34plus make the client happy it should be both designers models thank you you can leave the runway
37:41and we will call you back shortly i think first let's talk about jay's dress it was very youthful
37:54and very sensual and there was a little bit of an intellectuality to it but it didn't overwhelm the
37:59simplicity and again um you know she looked radiant and comfortable and also what i really noticed on him
38:06although she was very specific of what she wants she wants calvert client and he tried to give her
38:12but he didn't compromise i think he learned one thing that we all know as designers and editors you
38:18know the same thing when you watch a show if something doesn't move great it can kill the dress
38:22and you can see her model her face just lit up and isn't that what a wedding dress is supposed to do
38:38plus it looked like something that i know cara really loved herself you know it wasn't that she
38:44was trying to turn into another designer just to please the customer i think that's and that's that
38:49was a big part of this challenge let's talk about nora's dress i did not care for it at all i have
38:59to say the model you know she's very young and that's what a young girl dreams of the big poofy
39:04giraffe there are ways to interpret the idea of a traditional romantic bride in a much more interesting
39:11way than that and i i really think that she really just turned into a dressmaker in this situation as a
39:17designer bottom line you have to have the maturity and focus to figure out how to communicate and
39:23convey your vision so that the client understands that you really do have their best interest at heart
39:32how about awesome stress it's disappointing i mean to see talented people get steamrolled by the client
39:38but if you're going to get steamrolled by a young girl yeah and i understand like a non-traditional
39:44wedding but i don't care if you're getting married in williamsburg in a in a loft you're not wearing
39:50that they don't like the design they judge you on your design no i like that sign i thought it was too
39:56weird okay i think we made up our mind let's bring out the designers
40:14we've seen the runway show we've heard what you and your models had to say and we made our decision
