What's up, ladies?
00:03
What's up, ladies?
00:05
It's good to see you.
00:06
How are you?
00:07
I'm good.
00:08
Awesome.
00:09
You looking good.
00:10
Thank you, as are you.
00:11
Yes, Pam.
00:12
So I wanted to get a chance to ride in this new car of yours.
00:14
That little birdie told me you got a new wig.
00:15
Everybody been trying to get in my car.
00:17
So what's the layout of what we're doing today?
00:19
All right, so first we're going to get the baby.
00:20
OK, cool.
00:21
We'll drop him off at Grandma's house.
00:22
OK.
00:23
Then we got a bunch of boxes.
00:24
I'm actually going to need your help with the boxes.
00:25
Oh, I didn't know it rock and roll.
00:26
Man, you in labor.
00:27
We didn't talk about that.
00:28
You didn't know you were signing up for that.
00:29
Oh, you can't just get the luxury without the labor.
00:31
OK, you ready.
00:32
Come on.
00:33
Look at all this space.
00:34
Oh, you ain't seen nothing yet, honey.
00:35
Oh, my goodness.
00:36
Watch my seats for fun.
00:37
Oh, look at the seats.
00:38
Come on, seats go down.
00:39
You just press the button and they just go down.
00:40
The car's a dream, right?
00:41
Because whether it's baggages to the airport,
00:44
or the car seat and the stroller,
00:45
or Ross not going to work out,
00:47
I got the space in the back.
00:48
Lots of space in the front.
00:49
Ross is up front.
00:50
Most of the time, I'm a passenger princess.
00:52
I'm going to drive you today, my friend.
00:53
I'm going to drive you today.
00:54
Come on, let's go.
00:55
I will be the passenger princess today.
00:57
I like this car, Sonya.
00:59
I know.
01:00
Ford Explorer.
01:01
Isn't it nice?
01:02
I love it.
01:03
First of all, this red stitching is giving me all the life.
01:05
Sold me on the car.
01:06
I love it.
01:07
And then these seats.
01:08
They're so comfortable.
01:09
You know what else it does?
01:10
What?
01:11
Baby, it gives you a massage, honey.
01:12
No, it doesn't.
01:13
Yes.
01:14
You feel it?
01:15
I feel it.
01:16
It feels amazing.
01:17
I'm good.
01:18
I feel good.
01:19
Let's go.
01:20
Let's go.
01:21
OK, so this car has a little bit of a kick to it.
01:22
I'm telling you, you know I like speed, baby.
01:23
So it's giving me what I need.
01:24
No pun intended.
01:25
It's just this boldness about this car that I really love.
01:28
Yeah.
01:29
Even from a fashion standpoint, like the thing that I love about you is you can wear a jogging
01:32
suit.
01:33
You can wear your pajama line.
01:34
You can wear a dress to a gala and serve every single time.
01:40
So how intentional are you about your style and making sure it's bold no matter what
01:43
you wear?
01:44
You know, I always feel like when you look good, you play good, you mom good, you do
01:49
all the things good.
01:50
Yes.
01:51
And so for me, however I walk out of the house, that's how I'm representing myself for the
01:55
day.
01:56
And I want people to feel my confidence, to feel that boldness.
01:58
All right, look, we're here at grandma's house.
02:00
OK, man.
02:01
That was quick.
02:02
We're going to drop baby off.
02:03
OK.
02:04
Stop number one.
02:05
Done.
02:06
Yes.
02:07
Next stop, we have to head to drop off our packages.
02:09
And girl, I love that I have this huge screen for my GPS that makes it so easy to just
02:14
tap my locations and boom.
02:15
OK, man.
02:16
OK, man.
02:17
Let's do it.
02:18
OK, since Asani is gone.
02:19
Yes.
02:20
OK, we can turn up on this beautiful sound system.
02:23
Yes.
02:24
We've been talking and it's been great, but we've had no music.
02:27
Put on one of the songs.
02:28
Let me tell you that.
02:29
Let me tell you that.
02:30
I just want to hear a little, just a little bit.
02:32
Take me back to the island, you know what I'm saying?
02:35
No, that's all good.
02:36
It sounds amazing.
02:37
Yeah.
02:38
It sounds amazing.
02:39
I look forward to dropping the kids off most days.
02:42
Don't tell them I said that.
02:43
I won't say anything.
02:44
We're on the open road.
02:46
Little birdie told me, you like a certain setting.
02:48
Like, I even love the name, right?
02:50
It's like sports mode.
02:51
It just takes me back to the good old days when it was all about speed for me, you know?
02:56
Because you can just feel that power, you know, that the car has.
02:59
And it's like a controlled power.
03:01
And I want to talk about power too as it relates to running track.
03:03
For you, how much of a play does power make when it comes to the 400 specifically?
03:08
I used to have very intense workouts in the gym.
03:11
And I think that's where I understood the importance of power and controlled power.
03:14
Yeah.
03:15
You know, it's like you want to get as strong as you can be in the gym, and then you got
03:18
to figure out how to control that power on the track.
03:20
And where does mental health fit in for you with this?
03:23
We're in a different time now, and a time that I'm really happy for most of the athletes.
03:28
But when I was competing, Cherie, there wasn't a lot of talk about mental health.
03:31
You just kind of had to push through, you know?
03:33
Go! Run! Do it now!
03:34
You know, you had your track coach, you had your weight coach, and then you figured it out on the track.
03:39
You figured it out between your ears.
03:41
But I'm just so happy that it's a part of the conversation, that people see it as a necessary tool for success.
03:46
And not just in the field of play, but in life.
03:49
Alright, so we are here at the shipping place.
03:52
Hold on, let me get one second.
03:53
No, we don't have to get out of the car, baby.
03:55
Of course we don't have to get out of the car, because gold medalist Sonia Richards-Ross is driving,
04:00
so I'm sure there's somebody that's here to pick up your package.
04:03
No, just because I do this every day, so they got me.
04:05
They don't know I'm here.
04:06
Okay, do you have a tab with these people?
04:08
I do.
04:09
Okay, got it.
04:10
All the Mommy Nation packages.
04:11
Yes.
04:12
They're going out.
04:13
They're going out.
04:14
I also love how far you've come as a philanthropist.
04:15
So, how has it been for you to really grow Mommy Nation and service all the mommies out there?
04:20
For five years, we've been doing Mommy Nation.
04:22
For the last three years, we started our Mommy Nation Gifts Organization,
04:26
and we've raised quite a bit of money to help homeless moms.
04:29
We've also done our part to help the black mortality rate.
04:32
But actually, Sheree, that's what I'm doing for the Mommy Nation later today.
04:35
Oh, my God.
04:36
Yes, that's what we're rushing back home for.
04:38
So, my stylist is coming back today because I'm going to be on the panel.
04:41
Okay.
04:42
So, this is the Black Mommas Matters conference.
04:44
Okay.
04:45
Where I am going representing Mommy Nation as the CEO founder.
04:48
Yeah.
04:49
And so, I'll be on the panel with Tatiana Ali.
04:51
So, I feel like it's definitely more kind of the suit vibe, you know, where it feels like it's strong, bold, confident,
04:58
you know, while sharing my experiences and encouraging women to, like, you know, advocate for themselves.
05:02
Yeah.
05:03
Speaking of that, so, when we think about courage and confidence and moving through life freely
05:06
and considering all that you've been through, how are you doing that now?
05:10
That's a really good question.
05:11
And I think that because of my athletic background, I feel like I have the tools in my toolkit to help me when I feel down.
05:16
It's like, no, it's a part of the journey.
05:18
You know, this is not a mistake.
05:19
I fail forward.
05:20
I just keep myself encouraged.
05:22
I'm, like, naturally, like, the biggest optimist in my family.
05:25
I know you're not going to fail forward with these looks that Ryan put together.
05:28
Yes.
05:29
You know, they're going to be like, okay, Sam, we see you came and show up and show out.
05:32
Can I just say, I know it's not my event, but something about this.
05:35
The blue, right?
05:36
Something about this is speaking to my spirit.
05:38
Well, I know why the blue is speaking to your spirit.
05:40
Yes, ma'am.
05:41
Zaytify Beta Sorority Incorporated.
05:42
Thank you very much.
05:43
I love it.
05:44
I say go with that.
05:45
The blue?
05:46
Yes.
05:47
And I still think it's sexy, but yeah, very professional.
05:48
That's all I'm saying.
05:49
Yes, yes, yes.
05:50
You're going to have a great event.
05:51
Thank you very much.
