00:00What's up, ladies?
00:03What's up, ladies?
00:05It's good to see you.
00:06How are you?
00:07I'm good.
00:08Awesome.
00:09You looking good.
00:10Thank you, as are you.
00:11Yes, Pam.
00:12So I wanted to get a chance to ride in this new car of yours.
00:14That little birdie told me you got a new wig.
00:15Everybody been trying to get in my car.
00:17So what's the layout of what we're doing today?
00:19All right, so first we're going to get the baby.
00:20OK, cool.
00:21We'll drop him off at Grandma's house.
00:22OK.
00:23Then we got a bunch of boxes.
00:24I'm actually going to need your help with the boxes.
00:25Oh, I didn't know it rock and roll.
00:26Man, you in labor.
00:27We didn't talk about that.
00:28You didn't know you were signing up for that.
00:29Oh, you can't just get the luxury without the labor.
00:31OK, you ready.
00:32Come on.
00:33Look at all this space.
00:34Oh, you ain't seen nothing yet, honey.
00:35Oh, my goodness.
00:36Watch my seats for fun.
00:37Oh, look at the seats.
00:38Come on, seats go down.
00:39You just press the button and they just go down.
00:40The car's a dream, right?
00:41Because whether it's baggages to the airport,
00:44or the car seat and the stroller,
00:45or Ross not going to work out,
00:47I got the space in the back.
00:48Lots of space in the front.
00:49Ross is up front.
00:50Most of the time, I'm a passenger princess.
00:52I'm going to drive you today, my friend.
00:53I'm going to drive you today.
00:54Come on, let's go.
00:55I will be the passenger princess today.
00:57I like this car, Sonya.
00:59I know.
01:00Ford Explorer.
01:01Isn't it nice?
01:02I love it.
01:03First of all, this red stitching is giving me all the life.
01:05Sold me on the car.
01:06I love it.
01:07And then these seats.
01:08They're so comfortable.
01:09You know what else it does?
01:10What?
01:11Baby, it gives you a massage, honey.
01:12No, it doesn't.
01:13Yes.
01:14You feel it?
01:15I feel it.
01:16It feels amazing.
01:17I'm good.
01:18I feel good.
01:19Let's go.
01:20Let's go.
01:21OK, so this car has a little bit of a kick to it.
01:22I'm telling you, you know I like speed, baby.
01:23So it's giving me what I need.
01:24No pun intended.
01:25It's just this boldness about this car that I really love.
01:28Yeah.
01:29Even from a fashion standpoint, like the thing that I love about you is you can wear a jogging
01:32suit.
01:33You can wear your pajama line.
01:34You can wear a dress to a gala and serve every single time.
01:40So how intentional are you about your style and making sure it's bold no matter what
01:43you wear?
01:44You know, I always feel like when you look good, you play good, you mom good, you do
01:49all the things good.
01:50Yes.
01:51And so for me, however I walk out of the house, that's how I'm representing myself for the
01:55day.
01:56And I want people to feel my confidence, to feel that boldness.
01:58All right, look, we're here at grandma's house.
02:00OK, man.
02:01That was quick.
02:02We're going to drop baby off.
02:03OK.
02:04Stop number one.
02:05Done.
02:06Yes.
02:07Next stop, we have to head to drop off our packages.
02:09And girl, I love that I have this huge screen for my GPS that makes it so easy to just
02:14tap my locations and boom.
02:15OK, man.
02:16OK, man.
02:17Let's do it.
02:18OK, since Asani is gone.
02:19Yes.
02:20OK, we can turn up on this beautiful sound system.
02:23Yes.
02:24We've been talking and it's been great, but we've had no music.
02:27Put on one of the songs.
02:28Let me tell you that.
02:29Let me tell you that.
02:30I just want to hear a little, just a little bit.
02:32Take me back to the island, you know what I'm saying?
02:35No, that's all good.
02:36It sounds amazing.
02:37Yeah.
02:38It sounds amazing.
02:39I look forward to dropping the kids off most days.
02:42Don't tell them I said that.
02:43I won't say anything.
02:44We're on the open road.
02:46Little birdie told me, you like a certain setting.
02:48Like, I even love the name, right?
02:50It's like sports mode.
02:51It just takes me back to the good old days when it was all about speed for me, you know?
02:56Because you can just feel that power, you know, that the car has.
02:59And it's like a controlled power.
03:01And I want to talk about power too as it relates to running track.
03:03For you, how much of a play does power make when it comes to the 400 specifically?
03:08I used to have very intense workouts in the gym.
03:11And I think that's where I understood the importance of power and controlled power.
03:14Yeah.
03:15You know, it's like you want to get as strong as you can be in the gym, and then you got
03:18to figure out how to control that power on the track.
03:20And where does mental health fit in for you with this?
03:23We're in a different time now, and a time that I'm really happy for most of the athletes.
03:28But when I was competing, Cherie, there wasn't a lot of talk about mental health.
03:31You just kind of had to push through, you know?
03:33Go! Run! Do it now!
03:34You know, you had your track coach, you had your weight coach, and then you figured it out on the track.
03:39You figured it out between your ears.
03:41But I'm just so happy that it's a part of the conversation, that people see it as a necessary tool for success.
03:46And not just in the field of play, but in life.
03:49Alright, so we are here at the shipping place.
03:52Hold on, let me get one second.
03:53No, we don't have to get out of the car, baby.
03:55Of course we don't have to get out of the car, because gold medalist Sonia Richards-Ross is driving,
04:00so I'm sure there's somebody that's here to pick up your package.
04:03No, just because I do this every day, so they got me.
04:05They don't know I'm here.
04:06Okay, do you have a tab with these people?
04:08I do.
04:09Okay, got it.
04:10All the Mommy Nation packages.
04:11Yes.
04:12They're going out.
04:13They're going out.
04:14I also love how far you've come as a philanthropist.
04:15So, how has it been for you to really grow Mommy Nation and service all the mommies out there?
04:20For five years, we've been doing Mommy Nation.
04:22For the last three years, we started our Mommy Nation Gifts Organization,
04:26and we've raised quite a bit of money to help homeless moms.
04:29We've also done our part to help the black mortality rate.
04:32But actually, Sheree, that's what I'm doing for the Mommy Nation later today.
04:35Oh, my God.
04:36Yes, that's what we're rushing back home for.
04:38So, my stylist is coming back today because I'm going to be on the panel.
04:41Okay.
04:42So, this is the Black Mommas Matters conference.
04:44Okay.
04:45Where I am going representing Mommy Nation as the CEO founder.
04:48Yeah.
04:49And so, I'll be on the panel with Tatiana Ali.
04:51So, I feel like it's definitely more kind of the suit vibe, you know, where it feels like it's strong, bold, confident,
04:58you know, while sharing my experiences and encouraging women to, like, you know, advocate for themselves.
05:02Yeah.
05:03Speaking of that, so, when we think about courage and confidence and moving through life freely
05:06and considering all that you've been through, how are you doing that now?
05:10That's a really good question.
05:11And I think that because of my athletic background, I feel like I have the tools in my toolkit to help me when I feel down.
05:16It's like, no, it's a part of the journey.
05:18You know, this is not a mistake.
05:19I fail forward.
05:20I just keep myself encouraged.
05:22I'm, like, naturally, like, the biggest optimist in my family.
05:25I know you're not going to fail forward with these looks that Ryan put together.
05:28Yes.
05:29You know, they're going to be like, okay, Sam, we see you came and show up and show out.
05:32Can I just say, I know it's not my event, but something about this.
05:35The blue, right?
05:36Something about this is speaking to my spirit.
05:38Well, I know why the blue is speaking to your spirit.
05:40Yes, ma'am.
05:41Zaytify Beta Sorority Incorporated.
05:42Thank you very much.
05:43I love it.
05:44I say go with that.
05:45The blue?
05:46Yes.
05:47And I still think it's sexy, but yeah, very professional.
05:48That's all I'm saying.
05:49Yes, yes, yes.
05:50You're going to have a great event.
05:51Thank you very much.
