00:03Videos. After that.
00:09Keep going! Push, push, push!
00:11Good job, McKenna!
00:14Eva, say hi.
00:16Come on, give me that!
00:34My baby!
00:37Come on, come on, come on!
00:46Wee!
00:53Stand with me.
00:55The world can change his heart.
00:57No scars to your beautiful heart.
00:59Do I have to leave a man behind?
01:03We got all this drink we need.
01:05Yeah!
01:10Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Santa, happy birthday to you.
01:40Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you.
01:59On June 2nd, nine days after the mass shooting, there was a private meeting at Uvalde City Hall.
02:06The gathering was arranged by Governor Greg Abbott's office due to rising tensions between Uvalde officials.
02:13Abbott's general counsel and his chief of staff, Louis Sainz, were both in attendance as mediators.
02:20Various Uvalde civic leaders were also present, including Mayor Don McLaughlin, County Judge Bill Mitchell,
02:27Local District Attorney Christina Mitchell Busby, County Attorney John Dodson,
02:33Local Police Officials, Uvalde Assistant City Manager Joe Cardenas, and Uvalde City Attorney Paul Tarski.
02:43During the meeting, a one-page document titled, Narrative, was given to McGraw, the state's top police official.
02:51This was presented to him by City Attorney Paul Tarski.
02:54Uvalde City officials then pressured McGraw to publicly endorse their storyline
03:00and hold a press conference in which he was asked to change his depiction of events
03:05into a version more favorable to their liking,
03:08one in which the quick arrival of officers at the school would be promoted.
03:14Listen, it's time I let you in on a little secret, Marge.
03:17The right house is the house that's for sale.
03:20The right person is anyone.
03:22But all I did was tell the truth.
03:25Of course you did.
03:27But there's the truth
03:29and the truth.
03:33Let me show you.
03:35It's awfully small.
03:37I'd say it's awfully cozy.
03:41That's dilapidated.
03:43Rustic.
03:44That house is on fire.
03:46Motivated seller.
03:47Highlighting their success in containing the gunman.
03:52The narrative document was made available to the New York Times following a public information request.
03:59The city claimed there was zero hesitation on any of these officers' parts.
04:07They moved directly toward the gunfire and the total number of persons saved by the heroes.
04:14That our local law enforcement and the other assisting agencies is over 500.
04:20The document defended the delayed police response prior to final confrontation with the gunman,
04:41stating that time was not wasted, but each minute was used to save lives of children and teachers.
04:48And that absent the shields, every UPD officer was of the opinion that breaching the door was suicide.
04:57However, according to New York Times,
04:58some of the footage from the scene raises question about the city's account.
05:05Video from the hallway of Robb Elementary made clear that shields began arriving in the hallway outside the classroom long before the officers moved in.
05:15The city's description of events also conflicted with McGraw's previous statements to the public
05:21in which he portrayed a scene where officers had not adhered to standard training procedures.
05:26The hour-long meeting was heated, and voices were raised!
05:32Motherfucker!
05:33McGraw refused to endorse the city's narrative as presented to him,
05:37saying that he disagreed with their summary.
05:40District Attorney Busby also objected to the city's narrative
05:44and argued her point with the Uvalde City Attorney,
05:48saying she was concerned with the release of inaccurate or incomplete information.
05:53Ramos' mother said that she had no explanation for her son's attack on the school,
05:59but that he had his reasons for doing what he did,
06:03and please don't judge him!
06:05I only want the innocent children who died to forgive me!
06:09Wow, what an apology!
06:12Don't judge him!
06:14What did you say?
06:15What did you say to me when you were a virgin?
06:16What did you say to me when you were a virgin?
06:18Perdóname, perdóname, hijo.
06:22Yo sé, él tenía sus razones.
06:25What razones pudo haber tenido?
06:29A que se acercaran más a sus niños,
06:33en vez de poner atención a las cosas,
06:37las otras cosas malas.
06:39No, yo no tengo palabras, no sé.
06:45He was to himself.
06:47Él no le molestaba a nadie,
06:49él no le hacía nada a nadie.
06:51Family members of Amarillo Garza,
06:53a student killed in the Uvalde school shooting,
06:56confronting the gunman's mother
06:58and demanding an explanation from her.
07:01You have no right to judge my son.
07:04No, you don't.
07:05No, you don't.
07:06No, you don't.
07:07No.
07:08May God forgive y'all.
07:10I know my son was a coward.
07:11You don't think I don't know that?
07:13I know.
07:14You don't think I'm carrying all that with me?
07:17You don't think I don't know?
07:18I know.
07:20And I'm sorry.
07:23Adriana Reyes released from her time behind bars,
07:27Is there anything you want to say?
07:28but silent to question.
07:30Reyes moved to Oklahoma City
07:31and was living with her boyfriend.
07:34She was arrested Wednesday
07:35after multiple domestic calls.
07:38Police reports indicate Reyes told her boyfriend,
07:41quote,
07:41before she moves out of this house,
07:44she's going to kill him.
07:46A probable cause affidavit says the victim told police
07:49he's scared of what she may do to him
07:51when nobody's around or he's asleep.
07:54At one point, telling police he's terrified of her.
07:58Arnulfo Reyes,
08:00the teacher in classroom 111
08:01who lost all 11 of his students present during the shooting,
08:06was shot in the arm, lung, and back.
08:09Reyes labeled law enforcement as cowards
08:12for their response during the shooting,
08:14saying,
08:15they sit there and did nothing for our community.
08:17They took a long time to go in.
08:20He also said,
08:21After everything,
08:22I get more angry
08:23because you, law enforcement,
08:26have a bulletproof vest.
08:27I have nothing.
08:30Survivors,
08:31family members of survivors,
08:33and victims,
08:34spoke to a congressional panel,
08:36the United States House Committee on Oversight and Reform.
08:39About two weeks after the shooting,
08:41the testimony was done prior to the House
08:44debating a bill on June 8
08:46that would raise the minimum age to 21
08:49to purchase certain firearms
08:50and toughen prohibitions on untraceable guns.
08:55Gee, that'd be a nice first fucking step.
08:58Multiple survivors from the shooting
09:00have expressed their fear
09:01of returning to school
09:03and have spoken with media outlets
09:05to recount their experiences.
09:08Some gathered together
09:09and formed the organization
09:11Lives Rocked,
09:13a non-profit organization
09:14that is aimed at bringing forward
09:17changes and gun legislation.
09:19I bought those bears.
09:20I matched to the best that I could.
09:23Each bear with every student.
09:25It's our favorite color.
09:30As a teacher, as an educator,
09:32you never think about
09:35losing a student.
09:40But to lose, like,
09:4411 at a time,
09:50I mean,
09:51it's a lot at once.
09:55Today, because
09:56we want to end gun violence
09:58and to represent
09:59the angels that are not here no more.
10:01after about 10 surgeries,
10:03he's now finally back on his feet.
10:05Personally, I'm...
10:07I'm doing like
10:09as anybody that has lost
10:11a loved one with me.
10:13And I'm healing slowly,
10:15but surely.
10:16Anjali Gomez,
10:17who was handcuffed by police
10:19when she ran into the school
10:21to rescue her children,
10:23was later interviewed by CBS News.
10:25She said that she was on probation
10:28from charges from a decade prior
10:30and that law enforcement
10:32contacted her
10:33after the shooting
10:34to warn her not to publicize
10:36her story
10:37because she could face charges
10:39for obstruction of justice.
10:42What the fuck?
10:43Her lawyer later said
10:44that she had been harassed
10:46by police in two instances.
10:48The first one,
10:49police conducted a traffic stop
10:51on her vehicle
10:52and falsely accused her
10:54of harboring illegal immigrants in it.
10:56And the second,
10:58when a police vehicle
10:59stopped outside her home
11:00for around 45 minutes
11:02and flashed its lights
11:04at her and her mother.
11:06A special report
11:07by the Uvalde Leader News
11:09reported that Gomez's story
11:11was false
11:11after an investigation
11:13into the actions of Gomez.
11:15Gomez has not responded
11:16to the news article.
11:19President Joe Biden
11:20ordered flags
11:22at federal buildings
11:23to be flown at half-staff.
11:25In a televised address
11:26to the nation
11:27on May 24th,
11:28Biden highlighted
11:29that other countries
11:30have mental health problems,
11:33domestic disputes,
11:34and people who are lost.
11:36But these kinds of mass shootings
11:38never happen
11:39with the kind of frequency
11:40they happen in America.
11:42Why are we willing
11:43to live with this carnage?
11:45Why are we willing
11:47to live with this carnage?
11:49Biden said that he was
11:50sick and tired
11:51of mass shootings,
11:53declaring we have to act
11:54and calling for
11:55common sense gun laws.
11:58Biden also spoke
11:59to Texas Governor Greg Abbott
12:00to offer assistance,
12:02according to Biden's
12:03communications director.
12:05On May 25th,
12:06Abbott held a press conference
12:08where he described
12:09the shootings as
12:10evil, intolerable,
12:12and unacceptable.
12:13Abbott continued
12:15by saying the shooting
12:17could have been worse
12:19if not for the actions
12:20of law enforcement
12:21who he described
12:23as having provided
12:24a quick response
12:26and showed amazing courage
12:28by running towards gunfire.
12:31Wow, dude.
12:32He proceeded to blame
12:33the shooting on
12:34a problem with
12:35mental health illness
12:37in the local community
12:39while saying
12:40in the same speech
12:41that Ramos had
12:41no known criminal
12:43or mental health history.
12:45During the press conference,
12:47Beto O'Rourke,
12:48the Democratic nominee
12:49in the 2022
12:50Texas gubernatorial,
12:52confronted Abbott
12:53by telling him,
12:55you said this was
12:56not predictable.
12:57This was totally predictable
12:59and you chose
13:00not to do anything.
13:02Don McLaughlin,
13:03the Republican mayor
13:04of Uvalde since 2014,
13:06told O'Rourke
13:07to leave the press conference
13:09calling him
13:10a sick son of a bitch
13:12who was making
13:13a political issue
13:15before O'Rourke
13:16was escorted
13:17out of the auditorium.
13:19O'Rourke later
13:20criticized Abbott
13:21for reducing
13:22mental health services
13:23in the state
13:24and expanding
13:25gun access
13:26to 18-year-olds.
13:28Wow.
13:29This is literally
13:30Greg Abbott's fault.
13:32This is literally
13:32Greg Abbott's fault.
13:34This is literally
13:35Greg Abbott's fault.
13:37I believe
13:37the communications business
13:39has a key role
13:40in strengthening...
13:42Excuse me,
13:44President Reagan.
13:45There's a great...
13:50There's a real thing
13:51of tests going on
13:52and two...
13:53Tuesday, tomorrow,
13:54after an hour.
13:55Help us!
13:57Excuse me.
13:58Excuse me.
14:00Excuse me.
14:01It was after Santa Fe
14:02Hyde.
14:02Sit down.
14:03You're out of line
14:04and an embarrassment.
14:05It was after El Paso.
14:06Sit down and don't play.
14:08The next shooting
14:09is right now
14:10and you are doing nothing.
14:11No.
14:12We need to get his ass
14:13out of here.
14:13This isn't a place
14:14to help you.
14:15This is totally predictable
14:16when you...
14:16Sir, you're out of line.
14:18Sir, you're out of line.
14:20Sir, you're out of line.
14:22Please leave this auditorium.
14:24Sir, you're an exit.
14:24Get out of line.
14:25Get out of line.
14:25Get out of line.
14:26Please.
14:27I can't believe
14:28you're a sick son of a bitch
14:29that would come to a deal
14:30like this
14:31to make a political issue.
14:32This is not the thing for you.
14:33This is not the thing for you.
14:34Come on.
14:36I don't know.
14:37You're on the team,
14:38my boy.
14:40This is on you
14:41until you change...
14:42It's on out those like you.
14:44Why don't you
14:44get out of here?
14:45Let's go.
14:50You gotta let us decide if we get it.
14:52Well, if we don't
14:54this natureal
14:55makes true
14:55that things don't
14:57get out of here.
14:57So what does it do?
14:59We got to
15:00the front man
15:00that's in our
15:07that's in our
15:09understaid.
15:10There are family members who are crying as we speak.
15:40There are family members whose hearts are broken.
15:46There's no words that anybody shouting can come up here and do anything.
15:50Are we the baddies?
15:55Get him out of here!
15:56Get him the hell out of here!
15:57That cuts to the audience beating the shit out of him.
15:59Ripping his jacket up.
16:00Throw him out of the cloth.
16:02Don't bring his jacket.
16:04Senator Susan Collins described the shooting as an unbelievably tragic and horrible crime.
16:10And she expressed support for red flag laws that help restrict potentially violent individuals
16:16from accessing firearms.
16:18Senator Ted Cruz.
16:20Oh fucking boy.
16:21What's that turd got to say?
16:23Called the shooting yet another act of evil and mass murder.
16:27Sure is.
16:29He offered his prayers to the families and children affected by the shooting.
16:33And he said that the country has seen too many of these shootings.
16:37Senator Ron Johnson reacted by blaming school shootings in the U.S. on wokeness.
16:44CRT.
16:45Critical race theory.
16:47And liberal indoctrination.
16:49Fucking what?
16:51Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said that his message for grieving families in Uvalde was,
16:58I believe God always has a plan.
17:01Life is short no matter what it is.
17:04And certainly we're not going to make sense of the killing of children.
17:09Alright dude.
17:11Partly based on a rumor started by an anonymous user on the poll image board on 4chan,
17:19Representative Paul Gosar made unsubstantiated claims on Twitter the day after the shooting
17:25that the perpetrator was a transsexual leftist illegal alien.
17:31OMG, it's me.
17:34I'm gonna give you some terrible thrill.
17:39Like a science fiction move.
17:47Double picture.
17:50Now Miko, obviously we've all seen the pictures of the supposed Uvalde shooter as a transgender.
17:59And information has been coming out alleging that the person, the shooter, the killer is transgender.
18:06You're saying that's not true.
18:09Tell me about that.
18:11Well, what's happening here is, here lately, transgender people have been the scapegoats for a lot of the funery.
18:19And what actually happened is, you know, the past mass shootings that have happened have been, you know, perpetrated by young white racist men against black folks.
18:31Well, this one just happened to be done by a young Latino guy and in a predominantly Mexican area.
18:38And so this is the chance for the right wing, you know, conservatives to make this about a liberal issue.
18:48And what they've done is they've tacked on everything liberal they could find.
18:52They called him.
18:53This is another Mexican illegal and transgender to what they've done.
18:59And we had a person on our show just last night who said that and we're going to play that right now.
19:05You vote Democrat.
19:06They're all about pushing the gay agenda.
19:09That's what this guy is.
19:10He's putting on eyeliner there.
19:12The Democrats are wanting to teach our students how to be confused.
19:16The Democrats are pushing illegal aliens coming over here.
19:20This guy's the illegal alien.
19:22So you reap what you sow.
19:25So there was that guess alleging that it was a transgender and that it was an illegal.
19:31And of course, that was him saying it was the agenda of the Democrats who did that.
19:38Now, how hurtful is this to the transgender community labeling someone who's a trans labeling someone as transgender who committed such a horrible crime who's not actually transgender?
19:51Well, first of all, to be clear, for those of you in the audience, this person, the pictures of the transgender woman they put up there was not the shooter.
20:01This was someone who doesn't even live in Texas.
20:04This was a young lady who doesn't even live in Texas.
20:06The trolls on the Internet, liberal conservative trolls got on there and made this about a transgender thing.
20:12This is not the first time this has happened to us.
20:14There is recently in New Jersey.
20:17They passed a law in jail systems where if you consider yourself transgender, you're now able to be housed in the female facility.
20:24A young straight man took advantage of that, said he was transgender, got locked up with the females and start getting them pregnant.
20:31Then the whole world said, oh, look, that's what transgender people do.
20:35When Dave Chappelle made that issue, I mean, made the comments about transgender people in his act.
20:42And then the other day he was attacked on stage.
20:45The first thing he said was, oh, it must have been a trans man, even though it was a joke.
20:49The whole world took that and said, oh, look, that was a trans man.
20:52That's what trans people do.
20:54They think everything negative they can find about us and they blow it up because they feel like we're getting more rights than we should.
21:02They feel like we're getting more leeway than we should, which is ridiculous because we live in a country where people are always fighting for their rights.
21:11Black folks, gay folks, Mexican folks, we always fight for our rights.
21:15And it's like we're not allowed to fight for our rights.
21:17We're not allowed to have rights.
21:18We're not allowed to exist.
21:19So the worst thing you can be is transgender.
21:21So that's what and now, mind you, all of this is to distract from the fact that this was a young 18 year old boy who could neither buy tobacco, cigarettes or alcohol, but was able to go purchase two automatic weapons to kill people.
21:37As were the rest of these young men.
21:40All of this saying he's transgender is to distract from that.
21:44The tweet was taken down within two hours.
21:47The false claims were further spread by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.
21:53Of fucking course.
21:56We have the men invaded our sports.
22:05They're invaded our locker rooms, our playing fields, and our traditions.
22:08It's time to hear the voice of the men out.
22:11You'll hear from real panels where female athletes will be discussing the trials, the tribulations, the invasion of privacy, and the sheer disrespect of men who want to pretend like they're women.
22:23I'll be on the panel, too.
22:24I'm a former athlete.
22:25I'm also a mom of a former D1 Asian athlete.
22:29Join us at 1 o'clock.
22:30Remember, speaker.gov slash line.
22:33See you.
22:35Texas has become the 18th state in the country to restrict transgender minors from assessing, or accessing rather, puberty blockers and hormone therapies.
22:45Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 14 into law yesterday.
22:49The new law goes to schedule and goes into effect on September 1.
22:54But it could face some legal challenges before that.
22:57Abbott has gone to new lows in the Republican culture war.
23:02In this case, basically going after both transgender children and their parents.
23:09So this is a new directive essentially taking things one step further in making life difficult for transgender children.
23:18And persecuting them essentially and their parents.
23:21So here is what was released by the governor's office and also by the Office of the Attorney General.
23:28They have confirmed in the enclosed opinion that a number of so-called sex change procedures constitute child abuse under existing Texas law.
23:38Because the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is responsible for protecting children from abuse.
23:45I hereby direct your agency to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of any reported instances of these abusive procedures in the state of Texas.
23:57The letter continues to say that it is already against the law to subject Texas children to a wide variety of elective procedures for gender transitioning including reassignment surgeries that can cause sterilization, mastectomies, removals of otherwise healthy body parts and administration of puberty blocking drugs or super physiologic doses of testosterone or estrogen.
24:24The GOP because they're useless and have failed to do anything or provide anything that would actually benefit the lives of their own voters.
24:31They just make up, they fear monger, they make up issues that are not really issues.
24:38And while it's manufactured, it does end up having real consequences for innocent people who should not have their lives completely destroyed and impacted by these goons who are just posturing because they have nothing else to offer.
24:53their voters.
24:54That's what's going on.
24:55That's what's going on.
24:56With gender insanity being pushed to our children is an act of child abuse.
25:00Very simple.
25:01Here's my plan to stop the chemical, physical and emotional mutilation of our youth.
25:08On day one, I will revoke Joe Biden's rule policies on so-called gender affirming care,
25:16a process that includes giving kids children in lockers, retaining their physical appearance and ultimately performing surgery on minor children.
25:27Can you believe this?
25:28I will sign a new executive order instructing every federal agency to cease all programs that promote the concept of sex and gender transition at any age.
25:40I will then ask Congress to permanently stop federal taxpayer dollars from being used to promote or paying for these procedures.
25:48I pass a law prohibiting child sexual mutilation in all 50 states, but very quickly.
25:54I will declare that any hospital or healthcare provider that participates in the chemical or physical mutilation of minor youth will no longer meet federal health and safety standards for Medicaid and Medicare.
26:08Other far right House Republicans and conservative media figures and social media users, despite authorities identifying Ramos as an American citizen, not a trans.
26:20I'm sorry.
26:21Y'all will have to wait another year for that.
26:23Internationally, the shooting was condemned by various governments and politicians, including the government of Mexico, which said it was working with American authorities to identify Mexican victims.
26:35Mexican Consul Ismael Neveja responded by going to Uvalde on the day of the shooting in Mexico, said it was providing consular assistance for Mexican nationals.
26:47President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador commented on the Hispanic origin of the majority of the victims, noting just look at the surnames.
26:56They are children, grandchildren, Mexicans.
26:59It hurts us a lot.
27:00President Biden delivered a speech on the shooting and asked, when in God's name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?
27:09His lack of a concrete plan attracted controversy from gun control activists.
27:15In a speech given on the night of the shooting, Vice President Kamala Harris reacted to the shooting by calling for policy changes to prevent similar shootings.
27:25Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called for the U.S. to pass stricter gun control measures, and he urged Republican members of Congress to resist influence from the National Rifle Association of America, a gun rights lobby that have long been blamed for U.S. lawmakers resistance to supporting gun control.
27:46Good luck on that.
27:47Good luck on that.
27:48Good luck on that.
27:49That's where they get all the money.
27:50Top Texas Republican officials such as Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Texas House Speaker Dade Fallon of Beaumont, Attorney General Ken Paxton, Representative Tony Gonzalez of San Antonio, and Senators Cornyn and Cruz resisted the possibility of more comprehensive gun control measures.
28:11Abbott said that tougher gun regulations were not a real solution.
28:18Yeah, you gonna elaborate on that, buddy?
28:20Instead of gun control, many Senate Republicans called for increasing security presence in schools, limiting entryways into schools, and harming teachers and other school officials.
28:33Goddamn.
28:34Let's just make life shittier than it already is.
28:37Republican Senator Ron Johnson promoted the Luke and Alex Safety Act, a bill to create a national database of school safety practices, but was silent on whether he was receding from his longstanding opposition to universal background checks.
28:54Johnson's move to advance his bill by unanimous consent was blocked, with Schumer saying that the Senate was going to vote on gun legislation through consideration of the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act and that Johnson's proposal could be considered as part of the process.
29:13Senator Cruz said that some politicians would politicize the shooting to push for stricter gun reform.
29:21Users on social media accused Cruz of hypocrisy for accepting money from gun interest groups and for planning to speak at the NRA's annual meeting being held in Houston with Abbott and Cornyn.
29:34The NRA ILA's annual leadership forum on May 27th in Houston drew heavy criticism in light of the recent shooting.
29:42Former President Donald Trump, Governors Kristi Noem, and Greg Abbott, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, and Representative Darren Crenshaw were previously scheduled to give remarks.
29:56Cornyn and Crenshaw subsequently canceled their attendances, and Abbott announced that he would instead appear at a news conference in Uvalde and send pre-recorded remarks to the NRA convention.
30:09Daniel Defense, the manufacturer of a firearm used in the shooting, decided not to attend.
30:16At the event, Trump and other Republicans rejected gun reforms, with Senator Cruz blaming mass shootings in the U.S. on a cultural sickness based on fatherless children and an alleged link between violence and video games.
30:33And advocated for arming teachers and redesigning schools to have only one entrance and exit.
30:46Jesus Christ, what if there was a fired head?
30:50What if there's a fucking fire, Ted Theodore?
30:55I think blocking a fire exit and endangering the lives of children.
31:00Be unwise at this juncture in your career, sir.
31:02All right, what are you doing?
31:04What are you doing?
31:05Get out of here.
31:06Gun safety advocacy groups such as Moms Demand Action and March for Our Lives, as well as local teachers unions, Black Lives Matter chapters, the Harris County Democratic Party, and Beto O'Rourke protested outside the convention.
31:24Gun manufacturer Daniel Defense was met with social media criticism in the wake of the shooting, including criticism of a since-deleted Twitter post made on May 16th depicting a child holding a Daniel Defense rifle causing the company to make many of its social media accounts private.
31:45Jesus.
31:46Manuel Oliver, a gun control activist and the father of a Stoneman Douglas High School shooting victim, issued a statement expressing his outrage and said that the families of the victims do not need the thoughts and prayers of politicians.
32:02Instead, they need their kids.
32:06Several families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims spoke out, with several calling for stricter gun control.
32:14Fred Gutenberg, whose daughter was killed during the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, also called for politicians to enact stricter gun control and express support for the families of Rob Elementary School victims.
32:27On June 11th, March for Our Lives protests were held across the United States.
32:33On June 6th, the state of New York passed a new law raising the age from 18 to 21 for people to be able to buy semi-automatic weapons.
32:42On June 2nd, the United States House Committee on the Judiciary proposed the Protecting Our Kids Act.
32:49The bill notably excludes an assault weapons ban, but includes other measures such as banning those under 21 from purchasing semi-automatic rifles and the import, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of high-capacity magazines, requiring bump stocks be registered under the National Firearms Act and banning them for civilian use.
33:13It also redefines receiver blanks to require background checks on all sales, strengthens federal offenses for gun trafficking and straw purchases, creates a compensated buyback program between local governments and individuals surrendering such magazines, along with a new tax credit for the sale of safe storage devices at home, and penalizes violations of new safe storage requirements on residences.
33:42The House later passed the bill, though it is unlikely to pass the Senate.
33:47The International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police wrote to Congressional leadership offering to help work on gun measures.
33:57On June 23rd, the Senate passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act with bipartisan support in a 65 to 33 vote.
34:0515 Senate Republicans voted to support it.
34:08On June 24th, the House of Representatives passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act with bipartisan support in a 234 to 193 vote.
34:19House Republican leaders opposed the bill and called for other House Republicans to similarly oppose.
34:26But 14 House Republicans still voted to support.
34:31On June 25th, President Joe Biden signed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act into law.
34:36It was the most significant federal gun reform legislation in almost 30 years, citing the Brady Bill of 1993 and the since-expired federal assault weapons ban in 1994.
34:47You heard it after Columbine, you heard it after Parkland, you heard it after Virginia Tech, you heard it after Sandy Hook, you heard it after El Paso, you heard it after Buffalo.
35:00Well, you kept hearing that Wayne LaPierre isn't doing enough.
35:04And frankly, that's not true.
35:06The NRA under Wayne LaPierre's leadership has provided thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.
35:17And maybe these mass shootings would stop happening if we all thought a little bit more and we prayed a little bit more.
35:29So I'm asking everyone in this room to think, to pray.
35:38Give your thoughts and your prayers and your thoughts and your prayers and your prayers and your thoughts.
35:50And if we give enough of these thoughts and these prayers, these mass shootings will stop.
35:58So I want to thank you, Wayne LaPierre, for all your thoughts and all your prayers.
36:15Multiple memorials were held in Uvalde and across Texas in commemoration for the victims for the one year anniversary of the shooting on May 24th, 2023.
36:26Survivors, family members and supporters gathered for events such as a 77 minute vigil, the amount of time waited outside the classroom by authorities, candlelight vigils, butterfly release and mariachi performances.
36:42President Biden spoke about the anniversary at the White House with 21 candles at the base of the White House grand staircase and spoke about his frustration at a lack of change in gun policy.
36:54Similar frustration was echoed by survivors and family members who waited for investigations and legal cases to finish and policy to change.
37:04And many of these topics have caused anger and strife to be seen throughout Uvalde.
37:11This is entitled, El Corrido de los Ángeles de Uvalde.
37:26El Corrido de los Ángeles de Uvalde se doblan con el viento y cuando esas ramas se quiebran en mi corazón lo siento.
37:47Ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to sing this Corrido about the tragedy that happened in Uvalde, Texas on May 24th in the year 2022.
38:05It's part of the Mexican, the Hispanic culture because when a tragedy does happen, the first thing we do is that we unite.
38:15We unite. That's the first thing that we do. Then the next thing that we do is we start sharing stories. Music does heal.
38:29Songs or stories, ballads that we've told, you know, and this is how generations have maintained historical documentation through song.
38:38Corridos are to do that. Corridos are so specific. They can record, you know, massacres, train accidents.
38:48We always come together. Together we heal and overcome. So let us say our prayers, our prayers for the familias, for the brave teachers and for the angels of Uvalde.
39:00The angels of Uvalde.
39:01The angels of Uvalde now fly, fly through the sky. And when they speak to me, I feel it in my heart.
39:19Our prayers are so specific.
39:29Thanks, Jesus.
39:31This is a real pretty song, it's called the Texas River Song. It's all folks on it.
39:32Well, we crossed the white Pegas
39:38And we forded the new aces
39:42And we swam to Guadalupe
39:45And we followed the Brazos
39:48Red River runs rusty
39:51And the Wichita clear
39:54And down on the Brazos
39:58I courted my dear
40:00La, la, la, Lee
40:03Lend me your hand
40:07La, la, la, Lee
40:10Lend me your hand
40:13La, la, la, Lee
40:17Lend me your hand
40:20Oh, the Trinity's muddy
40:24And the Brazos quicksand
40:27The fair Angelina runs glossy and gliding
40:35And the crooked Colorado runs weaving and winding
40:42The slow San Antonio courses the plains
40:49But I never will walk by the Brazos again
40:55La, la, la, Lee
40:58Lend me your hand
41:02La, la, la, Lee
41:05Lend me your hand
41:08La, la, la, Lee
41:12Lend me your hand
41:15Oh, the Trinity's muddy
41:19And the Brazos quicksand
41:21Well, the girls the little river
41:27They're plump and they're pretty
41:30The Sabine and the Sulphur
41:34Have plenty of beauties
41:38On the banks of the Natchez
41:41There's girls by the school
41:44But I never will walk by the Brazos no more
41:51La, la, la, Lee
41:54Like something's always missing
41:59There's always one less plate that I make at dinner
42:03There's always one less child that I wake up for school
42:05I used to say, yeah, calm down
42:07There's so many of you
42:08And now when it's quiet, it's just
42:11I would give anything to have that noise back
42:13I mean, anything
42:14I'm always constantly doing something
42:18Trying to help, trying to work
42:19But there are times when you're just
42:21You're sitting there
42:22Trying to even watch a movie
42:24And then it just
42:25You break
42:27I mean, completely break down
42:31Until you're a blubbering mess on the floor
42:34You don't want to get up
42:35You don't want to do anything
42:36You don't want to live
42:37You're not suicidal
42:38But you don't want to be here
42:40Because it hurts that much
42:43We go somewhere
42:44Or if we go to the store
42:45Or something
42:46And he says
42:47He wants something for this
42:48Because he calls her
42:49I let him
42:52Because he loves her
42:58And he doesn't know any difference
42:59He still thinks that she's going to come
43:01So whatever he wants to get for her
43:06We get it
43:06We'll always be stuck on the 24th
43:09No matter what year it is
43:10We'll always be stuck on the 24th
43:12Like everybody's lives
43:1721 families' lives
43:19They literally stopped that day
43:21All you can still see is just
43:23It's bye Lexi
43:24And I love my mom
43:25But it's something she drew
43:26And it's me and her
43:28And I love
43:29That I get to see how she saw me
43:32As a mom
43:34And as a daughter
43:35I know how much my mom loves me
43:39But my daughter wasn't given a chance
43:41To have children
43:42So I kind of feel like
43:43Did she really, really grasp
43:45Just the unconditional
43:46Overwhelming love I have for you
43:48I just hope it was enough
43:50So the reminder is needed
43:53The American flag upside down
43:56With the sounds of children screaming
43:58Had been removed
43:59And that resonated with me
44:01Because, you know, the gunshots were still there
44:03Everything that ended their lives was there
44:07But the actual their life wasn't
44:11It was removed
44:12And it's not just their screams were removed
44:15Their voices, their laughter
44:18Their presence
44:19It's all been removed
44:20From this, you know, mortal plane
44:23That's what Uzi was left with
44:28You know, a bullet hole into the spine
44:31Imagine that that bullet
44:33Went straight through his spine
44:35And tore out his stomach
44:37We need visualizations
44:43And like I said
44:46Without actively showing or dropping
44:50The actual photos
44:52You can see it on me
44:55And you can see what it looks like
44:56On a 220 pound grown man
44:59Now imagine that
45:00On a 10 year old
45:02That weighed 65, 70 pounds maybe
45:05I mean, he was tiny
45:07And if that looks like that on me
45:09Imagine what that looked like on him
45:12Imagine what that looks like on your child
45:14Take me down
45:16Take me down
45:17Take me down
45:18And as soon as you take me down
45:22I know you think you're the queen of the underground
45:30Send me dead flowers
45:36Send me dead flowers every morning
45:38Send me dead flowers by the mail
45:46Send me dead flowers to my wedding
45:55And I won't forget to put roses on your grave
46:03No, I won't forget to put roses on your grave
46:25ahead
46:26Send me dead flowers
46:27I don't forget to put roses on your grave
