00:01This violence we've seen is a part of a few people trying to stop the progress toward democracy.
00:12Fallujah, and our troops are taking care of business.
00:16But that PDB said nothing about an attack on America.
00:21It talked about...
00:22As you might recall, there were some specific threats for overseas that we reacted to.
00:26And as the president, I wanted to know whether there was anything, any actionable intelligence.
00:32And I looked at the August 6th briefing.
00:34I was satisfied that some of the matters were being looked into.
00:42But that PDB said nothing about an attack on America.
00:48Had I known there was going to be an attack on America, I would have moved mountains to stop the attack.
00:54I don't know everything I can.
00:55And my job is to protect the American people.
00:58And I asked the intelligence agency to analyze the data to tell me whether or not we faced a threat internally,
01:04like they thought we had faced a threat in other parts of the world.
01:07That's what the PDB request was.
01:09And had there been actionable intelligence, we'd have moved on it.
01:12I'm satisfied that I never saw any intelligence that indicated there was going to be an attack on America
01:16at a time and a place of an attack.
01:19Of course we knew that America was aided by Osama bin Laden.
01:23From the day she started the job, she was told repeatedly by one of her supervisors that there was no urgency,
01:31that she should take longer to translate documents so that the department would appear overworked and understand.
01:37That way it would receive a larger budget for the next year.
01:40Edmund says that the supervisor, in an effort to slow her down, went so far as to erase completed translations from her FBI computer after she'd left work for the day.
01:51The next day I would come to work, turn on my computer and the work would be gone, the translation would be gone.
01:58Then I had to start all over again and re-translate the same document.
02:03And I went to my supervisor and he said, consider it a lesson and don't talk about it to anybody else and don't mention it.
02:10What's the lesson?
02:11The lesson was don't work, don't do these translations.
02:15Go out and spend two hours, lunch breaks, you know, go and don't go and get coffee downstairs, go eight blocks away, just chat with your friends.
02:25But don't do the work because this is our chance to increase the number of people here in this department.
02:31I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers.
02:40Now watch this drive.
02:41Some people call you the elite, I call you my base.
02:47All right, you need another.
02:49Why would Israelis spy in and on the U.S.?
02:52A General Accounting Office investigation referred to Israel as Country A and said, quote,
02:57According to a U.S. intelligence agency, the government of Country A conducts the most aggressive espionage operation against the U.S. of any U.S. ally.
03:06The Israelis are motivated by strong survival instincts, which dictate every facet of their political and economic policies.
03:12It aggressively collects military and industrial technology, and the U.S. is a high priority target.
03:19We're just going by.
03:21They seem to think that they have not a primary, or they seem to think that he is descending.
03:25Okay.
03:26Yeah.
03:52Yeah.
03:53Yeah.
03:53Yeah.
03:54Yeah.
03:54Yeah.
03:55In other news, hundreds of Muslims gathered today outside the Jersey City mosque,
04:01where Sheikh Abdel Rahman preached, and the bombing suspects prayed.
04:05The demonstrators said they wanted to send a message.
04:13They prayed, chanted, and accused the news media of distorting the World Trade Center bombing.
04:19They said their Islamic faith should not be equated with terrorism.
04:23Muslims should not be identified with those who decide, for whatever particular reason,
04:31whether it be political or otherwise, to take innocent lights in their hand
04:38and to do it under the disguise of what they may call jihad or holy war.
04:44At least some of the people there today tried to shift the blame for the bombing,
04:47away from the Palestinian suspects in custody, Mohammed Salome and Nidal Ayyad,
04:52and turn the blame to Israel.
04:54This paper handed out at the rally claims Salome rented the van of death
04:58to do work for an Israeli secret service agent.

05:28He was the king of the Arab world.
05:37He was the king who was a king of the world with a lot of love and a huge rage.
05:43He was not a small issue for the English people.
05:47He was the king of the Arab world.
05:50He was not a small issue for the Indonesia.
05:54He was the king of the Jews.
05:56Who were these men?
06:12What brought them to that parking lot on the morning of September 11th?
06:15And did they have any advanced knowledge of what was going to happen that day?
06:26The Bojinka Plot was a large-scale, three-phase terrorist attack planned but never executed by Ramzi Youssef and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed for January 1995.
06:40They intended to assassinate Pope John Paul II, blow up 11 airliners in flight from Asia to the United States with the goal of killing approximately 4,000 passengers and shutting down air travel around the world,
07:02and crash a plane into the headquarters of the United States Central Intelligence Agency in Langley, Virginia.
07:10Despite careful planning, the Bojinka Plot was disrupted after a chemical fire drew the attention of the Philippine National Police on January 6th and 7th, 1995.
07:24Youssef and Mohammed were unable to stage any of the three attacks.
07:28The only fatality resulted from a test bomb planted by Youssef on Philippine Airlines Flight 434, which killed one person and injured 10 others.
07:39They also planted two other bombs in a shopping mall in a theater in the southern Philippines.
07:47Elements of the Bojinka Plot, including the plan to crash a plane to the CIA headquarters,
07:53would be used in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon six years later.
07:59By the time the Bojinka Plot was discovered, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed had returned to Qatar in his job as a project engineer at the country's Ministry of Electricity and Water.
08:11After the U.S. asked the Qaithari government to arrest Mohammed in January 1996,
08:18he fled to Afghanistan, where he renewed his alliance with Abdul Rasul Sayyaf.
08:25Later that year, he formed a working relationship with Osama bin Laden, who had settled there.
08:31Bin Laden urged Mohammed to become a full-fledged member of Al-Qaeda,
08:35but he continued to refuse such a commitment until around early 1999 after the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
08:46He ultimately accepted bin Laden's invitation to move to Kandahar and join Al-Qaeda as a full-fledged member.
09:06Eventually, he became a leader of Al-Qaeda's media committee.
09:09After Mohammed Atta was chosen as the leader of the 9-11 mission,
09:15Khalid Sheikh Mohammed met with bin Laden to discuss the targets,
09:19the World Trade Center, which represented the U.S. economy,
09:23the Pentagon, a symbol of the U.S. military,
09:27and the U.S. Capitol, the perceived source of U.S. policy in support of Israel.
09:33Various conspiracy theories allege that certain institutions or individuals
09:37had foreknowledge of the September 11 attacks in the United States in 2001.
09:43Some of the primary debates include whether the Bush administration
09:46or the United States Armed Forces had awareness of the planned attack methods,
09:52the precise volume of intelligence that American agencies had
09:56regarding Al-Qaeda activities inside the United States,
10:00whether the put options placed on United Airlines and American Airlines and other trades
10:05indicated foreknowledge and why the identities of the traders have never been made public.
10:11Baccaratiani, a correspondent for NBC,
10:41met with Osama bin Laden in Kandahar in June 2001.
10:47Bin Laden had refused to speak on camera because he had promised the Taliban
10:51that he would not give any media statements,
10:54but Attyani spoke with Al-Qaeda military chief Abu Hafs off camera.
11:00Hafs had told Attyani that,
11:02In the next few weeks,
11:03we will carry out a big surprise and we will strike American and Israeli interest
11:08and that the coffin business will increase in the United States, unquote.
11:14When Attyani asked bin Laden for confirmation of this,
11:18he smiled and nodded in agreement.
11:20After Attyani ran his story,
11:26he was contacted by Pamela Constable of the Washington Post,
11:30who asked if he really believed that Al-Qaeda was planning a major attack,
11:35to which Attyani replied that he did believe them and that,
11:39quote,
11:39it sounds serious, unquote.
11:42It's still coming on a little bit.
11:45It's so close to you.
11:47It did?
11:48I'd love to do with it.
11:49What?
11:52A classified military intelligence program,
11:55known as ABLE Danger,
11:57was created in October 1999,
12:00specifically to target Al-Qaeda.
12:03Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Schaefer and Congressman Kurt Weldon
12:07charged before the Senate Judiciary Committee
12:10that ABLE Danger had identified Muhammad Atta
12:13and three of the other hijackers prior to 9-11.
12:18There is no mention of ABLE Danger in the 9-11 Commission report.
12:24Two 9-11 Commission members,
12:27Timothy J. Romer
12:28and John F. Lehman
12:30both claimed not to have received any information on ABLE Danger.
12:35Weldon alleged that intelligence concerning ABLE Danger
12:39was provided to the 9-11 Commission
12:41but was ignored.
12:46The U.S. administration, CIA, and FBI
12:49received multiple prior warnings from foreign governments
12:53and intelligence services,
12:55including France, Germany, the U.K.,
12:58Israel, Jordan, Afghanistan,
13:00Egypt, Morocco, and Russia.
13:03The warnings varied in their level of detail,
13:06but all stated that they believed an Al-Qaeda attack
13:09inside the United States was imminent.
13:10a big ball of smoke.
13:24Oh, you see it on television.
13:32Yes
14:02Now
14:16Yeah, I think this is
14:18In March 2001, Italian intelligence warns of an Al-Qaeda plot in the United States involving a massive strike involving aircraft
14:38Based on their wiretap of an Al-Qaeda cell in Milan
14:42Sabelle Edmonds, an FBI translator, was told by another translator that the FBI received information in April 2001
14:55From a reliable Iranian intelligence asset that Osama bin Laden was planning attacks on four to five cities with planes
15:04And that some of the plotters were already in the country and that the attacks would happen in a few months
15:11Kind of got us in the posing mode this morning, we're 7'6
15:14Roger
15:15In July 2001, Jordanian intelligence told U.S. officials that Al-Qaeda was planning an attack on American soil
15:25And Egyptian intelligence warned the CIA that 20 Al-Qaeda jihadists were in the United States
15:33And that four of them were receiving flight training
15:36In August 2001, the United Kingdom is warned three times of an imminent Al-Qaeda attack in the United States
15:47The third specifying multiple airplane hijackings
15:52According to the Sunday Herald, the report is passed on to President Bush a short time later
16:05September 2001, Egyptian intelligence warns American officials that Al-Qaeda is in the advanced stages of executing a significant operation against an American target, probably within the U.S.
16:22In 2002, FBI agent Colleen Rowley wrote to FBI Director Robert Mueller, describing her experience working with Minneapolis FBI agents
16:34Tracking suspected terrorists, Zikarius Moussaoui, prior to the attacks
16:39She described how FBI HQ personnel in Washington, D.C. had mishandled and failed to take action on information provided by the Minneapolis field office
16:51And had failed to issue a warrant to search Moussaoui's computer, despite having probable cause
16:57Senator Chuck Grassley later wrote that, quote, if the application for the FISA warrant had gone forward
17:06Agents would have found information in Moussaoui's belongings that linked him to a major financier of the hijacking plot
17:14We can no longer live as rats
17:21We know too much
17:24FBI agent and Al-Qaeda expert
17:28John P. O'Neill warned of an Al-Qaeda threat to the United States in 2000
17:34He retired from his position in mid-2001
17:39Citing repeated blocking of his investigations of Al-Qaeda by FBI officials
17:45After his retirement from the FBI, the World Trade Center hired him as its chief of security
17:54He started working on August 23rd, 2001
17:589-11 rescue workers found his body in a staircase inside the South Tower rubble
18:04Ladies and gentlemen, this is a difficult moment for America
18:19I, unfortunately, will be going back to Washington after my remarks
18:25Secretary of Rod Pace and Lieutenant Governor will take the podium and discuss education
18:30I do want to thank the folks here at Booker Elementary School for their hospitality
18:35Today we've had a national tragedy
18:39Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country
18:47I have spoken to the Vice President, to the Governor of New York, to the Director of the FBI
18:53And I've ordered that the full resources of the federal government go to help the victims and their families
19:05And to conduct a full-scale investigation
19:09To hunt down and to find those folks who committed this act
19:15They're not saying, it's not sure whether the White House has been evacuated
19:20As a reaction to this attack
19:22Or whether there has been a specific threat made against the White House
19:26That the White House has been evacuated
19:28This is a big news
19:30I mean, this is one of those movie scenarios
19:34That we have seen in countless films
19:37About what happens when a major terrorist attack hits the United States
19:41And Bill, we do have a bulletin from Associated Press that says a plane has now crashed into the Pentagon
19:46Oh my God
19:47An additional plane crashed
19:48No details yet
19:49Oh my God
19:51Oh my God
19:54Into the Pentagon a plane has crashed
19:58We don't know what size or how many
20:02Can you imagine what is going on?
20:11Oh God
20:21You're building your bed
20:26You're building your bed
20:29Oh my God
20:30You're building your bed
20:32You're building your bed
20:35One of the things
20:37One of the dangers
20:40Oh Christ!
20:42Oh my God!
20:46Help me the best!
20:48Help me the best!
20:52Oh my God!
20:55Son of a bitch!
20:59Son of a bitch!
21:10We are carrying Fox News live.
21:38One of the World Trade Center buildings just collapsed.
21:42The entire building collapsed.
21:45There is nothing left of it.
21:46The whole thing just came down.
21:48The whole building is now down.
21:53In March 2001, the U.S. Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive
21:59had issued a warning about people identifying themselves as Israeli art students
22:06attempting to bypass security and gain entry to federal buildings
22:11and even to the private residences of senior federal officials.
22:15A French intelligence agency later noted,
22:18According to the FBI, Arab terrorists and suspected terror cells lived in Phoenix, Arizona,
22:27as well as in Miami and Hollywood, Florida, from December 2000 to April 2001
22:33in direct proximity to the Israeli spy cells.
22:37The report contended that Mossad agents were spying on Mohammed Atta and Marwan Al-Sheehy,
22:47two leaders of the 9-11 hijacked teams.
22:51It was reported that the Mossad informed the FBI and CIA in August 2001
22:57that as many as 200 terrorists were slipping into the United States
23:02and planning, quote,
23:04a major assault on the United States, unquote.
23:08The Israeli intelligence agency allegedly cautioned the FBI
23:13that it had picked up indications of a, quote,
23:16large-scale target, unquote, in the United States
23:21and that Americans would be very vulnerable.
23:25Some evil is just, it can't be explained.
23:30Are these people happy?
23:31Are they joyous now?
23:32Are they celebrating?
23:33Oh, absolutely.
23:34They're celebrating.
23:35There's one report.
23:35This has not been confirmed, but there's several reports.
23:38There was a cell, one of these cells, across the Hudson River.
23:43And they got on the, this is the report.
23:45I emphasize, I don't know this for a fact,
23:47but there's several witnesses who say this happened.
23:49They got on the roof of the building to look across.
23:52They knew what was going to happen.
23:54They were waiting for it to happen.
23:55And when it happened, they celebrated.
23:57They jumped for joy.
24:00One report about a group of Middle Eastern men
24:02spotted the morning of September 11th
24:04parked just across the river from New York City
24:06has not gone away.
24:09Investigation of their presence has led to questions
24:11about whether Israel was conducting espionage on U.S. soil.
24:16It began when this woman was watching the Twin Towers burning
24:19from her apartment in New Jersey.
24:21She noticed three men on top of a van,
24:24posing for pictures with the towers burning in the background.
24:27And I could see that they were, like, happy.
24:30You know, they didn't look sharp to me.
24:33You know, they didn't look sharp.
24:34Carl, what about this question of advanced knowledge
24:38of what was going to happen on 9-11?
24:40How clear are investigators that some Israeli agents may have known something?
24:45Well, it's very explosive information, obviously,
24:46and there's a great deal of evidence that they say they have collected.
24:49None of it necessarily conclusive.
24:51It's more when they put it all together.
24:53A bigger question, they say, is how could they not have known?
24:57Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, reported that four hours after the attack,
25:02the FBI arrested five Israelis who had been filming the smoking skyline
25:08from the roof of a white van in the parking lot of an apartment building
25:13for, quote, puzzling behavior, unquote.
25:17They were charged with illegally residing in the United States
25:21and working there without permits.
25:24The Israelis were said to have pulled into the parking lot
25:28after the destruction of the first tower
25:30and videotaped the remainder of the disaster
25:33with what was interpreted as cries of joy and mockery.
25:39The incident became known as the Dancing Israelis
25:43in conspiracy theory circles.
25:46Police found the van, and a search revealed $4,700 in cash hidden,
25:51along with foreign passports and a box cutter,
25:55which aroused suspicions.
25:56Our number one got stabbed.
26:00Our person is stabbed.
26:02Nobody knows who stabbed who,
26:03and we can't even get up to business class right now
26:06because nobody can breathe.
26:08Our number one is stabbed right now.
26:11Our number one has been stabbed, and our five has been stabbed.
26:19Can anybody get up to the cockpit?
26:20We have no idea what to be out of here.
26:23We have no idea what to be out of here.
26:26And led to the detention of the occupants.
26:29The men were held in detention for more than two months,
26:33during which time they were subjected to interrogation and polygraph tests
26:38before being deported back to Israel.
26:41Back home, several of the men appeared on an Israeli TV talk show,
27:00where one of them, Oded Elner,
27:02subsequently stated that, quote,
27:04the fact of the matter is we are coming from a country that experiences terror daily.
27:09Our purpose was to document the event.
27:12The five men worked at the company, Urban Moving Systems, Inc.,
27:21owned and operated by Dominique Souter.
27:38After the men were arrested, the FBI searched their offices and questioned Souter.
27:47However, Souter fled to Israel before he could be questioned further.
27:52Eventually, Souter's name appeared on the May 2002 FBI suspect list,
27:57along with the September 11 hijackers and other suspected extremists.
28:09On March 15, 2002, the foreword claimed that the FBI had concluded that the van's driver,
28:17Paul Kurtzberg, and his brother, Sivan, were indeed Mossad operatives who were in America,
28:25quote, spying on local Arabs, unquote.
28:30ABC News cited this report on June 21, 2002,
28:36adding that the FBI had found no evidence that the five Israelis had foreknowledge of the attacks.
28:42Oh, my God.
29:01Oh, my God.
29:05Hello.
29:05Hello.
29:05Hello.
29:12You must have been terrifying in those moments,
29:17and then, obviously, for them, the 50,000 people and the tens of thousands or more
29:20who visit the World Trade Center.
29:22You can understand why now we have a death toll of maybe over 10,000 people there in lower Manhattan.
29:28Holy...
29:29Oh, God.
29:31Oh, God.
29:32Oh, God.
29:33Oh, God.
29:35Oh, God.
29:37Oh.
29:40Mother of God.
29:42It says it was a credible...
29:46Devastating.
29:50The World Trade Center is no more...
29:54And there's a tremendous dust plume there kicking up.
29:57Anytime something like that collapses, yes, you have...
29:59Oh, God.
30:03Oh, God.
30:05Oh, God.
30:08Oh, God.
30:09Oh, God.
30:10Oh, God.
30:11Oh, God.
30:12Oh, God.
30:13Oh, God.
30:13Oh, God.
30:14Oh, God.
30:15Oh, God.
30:15Oh, God.
30:16Oh, God.
30:17Oh, God.
30:17Oh, God.
30:18Oh, God.
30:18Oh, God.
30:19Oh, God.
30:19Oh, God.
30:20Oh, God.
30:21Oh, God.
30:21Oh, God.
30:22Oh, God.
30:22Oh, God.
30:23Oh, God.
30:23Oh, God.
30:24Oh, God.
30:24Oh, God.
30:25Oh, God.
30:25Oh, God.
30:26Oh, God.
30:26on the turnpike. They will not let you go any further than that. You're heading southbound, heading home. And WBJ is taking it instead of course returning to Washington in Sarasota.
30:38You can really see flames so far away. It's incredible. You will not stand for any terror. It's really something. There are flames where there's smoke all the way over here. Although we're only like 12 miles away. So if you don't see them, that's something.
30:56I hope they're listening to that. So do you think it was that? I think you wouldn't do anything. I'm just kidding. The New York Times has been changed forever.
31:13He's in the suit over there.
31:14On September 6th, 2001, a freshman from a class of Pakistani immigrants at New Utrecht High School in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, was overheard by his English teacher, Antoinette DeLorenzo, to say that the two World Trade Center towers, quote, won't be standing there next week, unquote.
31:36After DeLorenzo reported the incident, on September 13th, the youth and his older brother were questioned by the FBI and local police.
31:53According to the police, the youth admitted to making the comment, but he and his brother said he had been kidding.
31:59Silverstein Properties, according to the New York Times, had planned to meet on September 11th on the 88th floor, that's a strange number, but okay, of one of the towers to, quote, discuss what to do in the event of a terrorist attack, unquote, but canceled the meeting late on September 10th, quote, because one participant could not attend, unquote.
32:26The World Trade Center's leaseholder, Larry Silverstein, has said in interviews that he usually spent his mornings in breakfast meetings at Windows on the World on top of the World Trade Center's North Tower and with new tenants in the building.
32:44However, on the morning of September 11th, 2001, his wife insisted he attend a medical appointment, inadvertently saving him from certain death.
32:54New tonight, are there spies among us?
32:57Some traveling door-to-door salesmen in northern Utah County are sometimes asking some strange questions.
33:02ABC4's Brent Hunsaker has been looking into this, Brent.
