00:00More topics in Major League Baseball, Joe Ranieri.
00:02Let's get to Philadelphia, the Atlanta Braves, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
00:0519 runs yesterday, seven home runs, four by Kyle Schwarber.
00:09Bryce Elder on the mound today.
00:11By the way, when I saw Cal Quantrill was on the mound,
00:13I said that's the perfect tonic for a really bad road stretch against the New York Mets.
00:17They hammered Quantrill yesterday.
00:19Elders on the mound versus Suarez, heavy favorite for the Phils.
00:22Overnight, Joe, minus 200 price.
00:24That's dropped a little bit into the mid-180s, and a total that's listed at nine across the board.
00:29More good vibes for the Phillies at the plate, or is regression coming?
00:33Yeah, you got 19 last night.
00:34Good luck getting nine hits tonight.
00:37No, I'm not buying.
00:38Listen, I mean, Bryce Elder kind of burned us last go around here.
00:45But I don't expect back-to-back efforts like he gave here against the way this Philadelphia team hits at home.
00:54And in that ballpark, it matters here.
00:56So, yeah, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
00:58If he got us last week, but he ain't getting us this week, Elder,
01:03it will absolutely be a Philadelphia Phillies first five team total over and full game team total over.
01:11Let's go.
01:12Fight and Phils.
01:12Knock some home runs out.
01:13Maybe another four home run performance by Schwerber will be on deck tonight.
01:16But how about this?
01:17Two first-place teams.
01:19You want American League?
01:20You got it.
01:20You want National League?
01:21You got it.
01:21How about Milwaukee and Toronto?
01:24Freddie Peralta is going to be on the mound on the road, taking on the Blue Jays.
01:27Shane Bieber had a very good start in his first start for the Toronto Blue Jays.
01:31Look at this price point.
01:32Overnight was a minus 118.
01:34Look at the graphic about to pop up.
01:36It's up to minus 132 to as high as 140, depending on what book you're looking at in the morning.
01:41Seven and a half is the total.
01:42This is an unbelievable game here with a lot of expectations on the line for both of these clubs.
01:49Yeah.
01:49And, you know, again, the Blue Jays, we've been telling you all year long, they are a different team at home at the Rogers Center.
01:58In fact, they have the best home record in Major League Baseball at 44 and 22 on the season.
02:06And we got a little taste of Bieber, didn't we, last week, Donnie, on what he looked like last Friday?
02:11Yep.
02:12We backed Toronto in that spot.
02:14And, listen, all signs indicated that what we were seeing and hearing about his minor league starts, the guy was just practically unhittable.
02:23He's not blowing the ball by anybody.
02:25But this has got, you know, Greg Maddox written all over it.
02:28He'll put the ball and have you talking to yourself when it's all said and done.
02:32The Brewers are 5-8 since that 14-game winning streak ended on August 17th.
02:39It's kind of hard to go against Toronto with an ace on the mound in a building that they win games in.
02:45So, yeah, I think it would only be Toronto for me in this spot.
02:49How about Miami and New York?
02:51Another game tonight.
02:52The Mets lost after sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies to the Miami Marlins.
02:56Perez will be on the mound.
02:57That's Yuri Perez for the Marlins.
02:58Tong is getting a call-up to Major League Baseball tonight.
03:01And if it's any indicator of what we saw out of McLean, maybe the Mets are on to something here.
03:05Bring up your young, talented pitchers and see what they can do.
03:08And, by the way, the public buying in as well.
03:10Overnight, Joe, this line, minus 150.
03:12You know where it sits now?
03:13Minus 172 at FanDuel.
03:15Minus 181 at DraftKings here.
03:17Minus 175 at BetMGM.
03:19That line's on the move and the people are backing the New York Mets.
03:21A total in this game.
03:22Opened up at 7.5.
03:24It's 7.5 at a lot of outlets.
03:26But also 8s are creeping in as well.
03:28The Miami Marlins, the New York Mets, hard to gauge on a rookie pitcher.
03:33Do the Mets bounce back tonight in your eyes?
03:36Well, let's be real.
03:37They got a pretty good pitcher as well, the Marlins.
03:40At 22 years old and Yuri Perez, who's gone 6-1 with 56 strikeouts in his last 54 and two-thirds innings.
03:50Yeah, it feels like an under to me in this spot, especially in the first five.
03:55We'll see if they can get some runs.
03:57I'll tell you, their New York counterpart didn't struggle with runs last night.
04:00They're going to take on the White Sox again.
04:02We'll hit that game next right here on the early line.
04:04Yankees trying to track down those Toronto Blue Jays.
04:07By the way, the Blue Jays are going to have their hands full with the Milwaukee Brewers,
04:09the leaders in the Central Division in the National League.
04:12But a bottom feeder here in the Chicago White Sox next up once again for the Yankees,
04:15who belted 10 runs yesterday in the Windy City.
04:19Rodon, the left, you'll be on the mound today going up against Mr. Gomez.
04:21Gomez, 9-63, 9-64 in the rotation, a 7-40 start.
04:25The favorite in this game, it's no surprise.
04:27It's the New York Yankees.
04:28And it's no surprise that the Yankees have a heavy tax today.
04:32But they were as high as minus 2-40 overnight.
04:34Now we're seeing across the betting landscape, 2-25s, 2-20s here.
04:37And a total listed anywhere between 8.5 and 9 runs.
04:40More good things on the horizon tonight, Joe, for those Yankees bats?
04:44Well, I mean, if it ain't broke, why fix it, right?
04:48I mean, Team Totals have been a pretty good spot here with the Yankees as the bats continue to roll.
04:55And there's absolutely no reason.
04:56They've done a great job of winning games when Rodon is pitching.
05:01That is for sure.
05:02But if the price is right, laying a run and a half of the Yankees, not a problem.
05:08Team Total over for me against this awful White Sox pitching staff.
05:12Ah, let's keep it moving here into the Midwest, Detroit, and Kansas City.
05:17Detroit, the leaders in the Central Division in the American League.
05:20They're going to throw off Chris Paddock going up against Seth Lugo.
05:23967, 968 on the rotation.
05:25An 8-10 start.
05:26And how about this price point?
05:27Overnight, minus 124.
05:28It hasn't moved at the FanDuel Sportsbook.
05:30Minus 124.
05:31Minus 123 at DraftKings.
05:33Minus 125 at BetNGM.
05:35A slight favorite to Kansas City tonight.
05:36Can they knock off the Detroit Tigers here?
05:39Maybe start to push some pressure on those Tigers once again.
05:42Paddock versus Lugo.
05:44Well, the problem is Detroit has owned Kansas City all year long.
05:49They've got an eight and a half game lead over the Royals.
05:53They're seven and three against them this season.
05:56They are coming off just a wild week where they got swept by the athletics, the Tigers here.
06:03And now they got to go to Kansas City.
06:06And Kansas City looking for a little bit of revenge here.
06:09It's the right pitching matchup for Kansas City.
06:12They've got Lugo on the mound.
06:14It's the guy that they want.
06:16But Detroit just lit them up last week in their series in Detroit.
06:21So Kansas City's got to be better.
06:23And I think they will be better.
06:25I give them the edge in this one.
06:27And I'm back in the home team to get back on track.
06:29Joe, I've been waiting for the Houston Astros to finally start to break out at the plate.
06:33Maybe tonight is the night.
06:34Why?
06:35Tyler Anderson, the lefties on the mound for the Los Angeles Angels.
06:38That sounds like a party.
06:39Going up against Christian Javier.
06:41Troubles here coming back off of the IL.
06:43965, 966 on the rotation.
06:45An 810 start tonight.
06:47And a heavy, heavy favorite for the Astros in that minus 185 price range.
06:51A total across the board still sitting at nines here.
06:54If you can't hit Anderson, maybe you can't hit anybody.
06:57I look for a big offensive performance for the Astros tonight.
07:00But again, some of these guys like Tanner Gordon have been able to hold the bats down for Houston,
07:04which doesn't make any sense.
07:05Can they bust out tonight versus Anderson?
07:08Well, I mean, my goodness.
07:10The Angels, last time we saw them, what was that?
07:12A 20-3 shellac in there by the Rangers.
07:16And now we've got a situation where Houston is barely getting by Colorado.
07:22But Walker's starting to hit the ball.
07:24Altuve's here.
07:25We know Jordan Alvarez is back in that lineup.
07:28So this is now the time, Houston, where you try to right the ship here.
07:34And I think they will.
07:35I think Javier will be better.
07:37I think Houston will be better in this game.
07:39And I like the Houston team total up and over as well in this one.
07:44Let's go, Houston.
07:46San Diego and Minnesota.
07:47Nestor Cortez, the lefty, is going to be on the mound here for those Padres.
07:50Zebby Matthews, a strikeout guy from Minnesota,
07:52but has had him some struggles in Major League Baseball.
07:55That total opened up at 8.5, still sits at 8.5,
07:57but a favorite here for San Diego, which is starting to rise.
08:00Minus 120s or so overnight.
08:02Minus 125s, minus 135s in the sports betting landscape,
08:05depending on where you're shopping at.
08:07Cortez and the Padres looking to chase down those Dodgers.
08:11Can they get the victory in Minnesota?
08:14Yeah, that was a rough one.
08:15And the Padres had an opportunity to walk away from Seattle
08:19with a big series win there, but couldn't get it done.
08:22They lost 4-3.
08:24And while with the Dodgers continuing to win games
08:28and sweeping Cincinnati, the Padres need to win games
08:31they're supposed to win, Donnie,
08:33if they're going to be serious about catching the Dodgers.
08:35And this is a very winnable game with nasty Nestor,
08:40who outside of his last start where he got crushed,
08:42has actually been pretty decent here.
08:45Debbie Matthews walks far too many guys for me to back.
08:48I like the Padres.
08:50I like them in this game.
08:51I think the price is right to get them back on track here.
08:56Let's get some of those Dodger taxes in,
08:58just like we talk about the New York Yankees.
08:59Why?
09:00They're going to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks here.
09:02The Diamondbacks can give you a little bit of a problem at the plate.
09:04It's going to be Zach Gallin versus Blake Snell on the mound.
09:07959, 960 on the rotation.
09:08Late night game out on the West Coast.
09:1010-10 start.
09:11Minus 205s overnight.
09:13They're starting to shrink just a little bit.
09:15Minus 196, minus 195, minus 190,
09:17even a minus 184 in the marketplace for this game.
09:20A total that's listed at 8.5.
09:23I really like the way Snell's pitching.
09:25They should be able to roll over Arizona,
09:27but Arizona is a little bit feisty.
09:29They are.
09:30Yeah, and listen, Zach Gallin,
09:32what are you going to get from him, right?
09:34He was a guy that not good,
09:37not good against the Dodgers either.
09:39I think he's 1-5.
09:41He's got, what, almost a 4.5 ERA.
09:44He has faced them 14 times,
09:46and the Dodgers have crushed them every time here.
09:50Kind of hard to go against Snell in any way, shape, or form here,
09:54because, you know, since coming back off the IL,
09:58he's been absolutely amazing here.
10:00I don't see that changing,
10:02but the Diamondbacks, you're right, are feisty,
10:04but I'd be looking to back the Dodgers early in this one.
10:09I think they get the Gallin way before the Diamondbacks get the Snell.
10:14Light them up, as in Jack Leiter of the Texas Rangers,
10:16trying to still hold down the fort for who has ever left to play for the Rangers
10:20for the remaining parts of the season.
10:22Taking on Jeffrey Springs and the Athletics in Sacramento,
10:25969-970 on the rotation at 10 o'clock start tonight.
10:28No surprise.
10:29Look at that total.
10:29Open up at 10.5.
10:30still sits between 10 and 10.5 across the sportsbooks here.
10:34Looking at the side in this game,
10:36Athletics open up as a minus 125 favorite.
10:38That's moved higher.
10:39You see the graphic at 132.
10:41Now we're seeing minus 145s and minus 150s out there at the books
10:45as a favorite here for the Athletics.
10:47People are just giving up on the Rangers, Joe.
10:49Say it ain't so.
10:51Well, I mean, they should,
10:53but they did just score 20 runs,
10:55we told you, against the Angels a couple of nights ago.
10:58The problem is, they're walking into a buzzsaw right now.
11:02We've told you, man, the Athletics are a fantastic bet
11:06when they are a dog, and they are a dog a lot.
11:09They have won 21 of their last 31, Donnie,
11:13and this is just, they are swinging it well at their own ballpark.
11:18Lighter, by the way, not great on the road.
11:21Springs isn't great either,
11:22but this, I could all, I couldn't sweat an under here.
11:25This feels like over, and maybe even an A's team total up and over as well.
11:31How about that?
11:32Yep, last game we'll talk about here, Baltimore and San Francisco.
11:35Kramer versus Ray out on the West Coast.
11:37A 10-15 start.
11:38Side here, minus 145, give or take here for the Giants.
11:41And a total, listed at 7.5.
11:44Anytime I see that Giants ballpark, I'm like, ah, Kramer's not a great pitcher.
11:47Ray's been struggling.
11:48Could they get the eight runs?
11:49Maybe, but for me, usually a pass.
11:51I barely bet San Francisco games, Joe, just the way it is.
11:54Yeah, well, I mean, the good news is for San Francisco,
11:57Devers, Adamus, and Chapman have finally started to swing the bat here
12:03and finally starting to get some things done.
12:05And San Francisco now all of a sudden has put some nice wins together.
12:09I mean, let's face it.
12:11I mean, they handled the Cubs with no problems here.
12:14I don't think they'll have a problem against Baltimore.
12:17And Robbie Ray, kind of outside of Logan Webb, he is the guy.
12:22And I think that he'll be able to limit this Baltimore lineup as well here.
12:26Giants, for me, as crazy as that is.
12:29By the way, also, Paul Skeens is starting today in Boston,
12:33going up against Peyton Toley.
12:34So I've got to do some research on Toley.
12:36But if you're looking at the line itself,
12:38we know Boston's better than Pittsburgh,
12:40but we're talking about a pick-em here.
12:41So maybe this kid's coming up.
12:42I've got to do some research on this kid could be wise.
12:44Look at this.
12:45Teams bringing up good pitchers to help them down the stretch
12:48to win a pennant or make the playoffs.
12:50What a novel concept here, Joe.
12:52Yeah, and guess what?
12:54First five under.
12:55Yeah, that's it.
12:56Oh, yeah.
12:57Just don't even, if it ain't broke, folks, let's not fix it.
13:00First five under, even if it's three and a half, yeah,
13:04the Red Sox bats probably not getting the schemes here.
13:07By the way, I lost an all-team total early in the afternoon yesterday
13:10because I needed three runs from Pittsburgh.
13:12They got a home run in the first inning,
13:14a double and a single in the first inning,
13:16got their first two runners on base in the second inning,
13:18and still wound up with one run from that solo home run for the entire game.
13:21Oh, my smiles, Michaelis.
13:24Come on.
13:24Tom Becku is up next.
13:26Let's have more fun.
13:26Let's get to the Major League Baseball diamond today.
13:28Detroit and Kansas City.
13:30Paddock and Lugo total listed at nine.
13:32Slight favorite for Kansas City.
13:33What are the options here for the Tigers and the Royals, Tom, for you?
13:36You know, I see this as a bounce-back spot for the Tigers,
13:41and we're getting plus money on them.
13:42A couple things here.
13:43Tigers have not been playing well.
13:45They've been giving up runs.
13:46I'm not saying Chris Paddock is a good pitcher because he's not.
13:49But if you look at Seth Lugo,
13:52he has been terrible over his last stretch of games.
13:55And since July 1st, his ERA is over six.
13:58His XFIP is over five.
13:59So the fact that we have one team that I deem to be better,
14:03I think we'd all agree is better with the Tigers.
14:04I want to be taking the plus money with the Tigers.
14:07And, again, I'm not saying, like, oh, Chris Paddock is the guy
14:09that's going to power me to the win.
14:11You know, Donnie, I've said this before.
14:12It's like we have pitcher A, pitcher B.
14:14It's like I'm not betting on either one.
14:15It's like I'm betting on the Tigers as a team overall to get to the win.
14:20Like, it's going to be their lineup.
14:21It's going to be a little bit of Paddock,
14:23and it's going to be a little bit of their bullpen coming through.
14:25I'm not betting on Paddock.
14:26But more clearly, like, the way that Seth Lugo has been pitching as of late,
14:30there's no reason to be laying money on him.
14:33That's what it really comes down to.
14:34So, give me plus money on Detroit.
14:36And I think they bounce back after a tough series at the Athletics.
14:40Yeah.
14:41There are a lot of awful pitchers on the card here today, Tom.
14:46So, how do we approach some of them?
14:49What are we looking at here today?
14:51I think we also could be looking to Coors Field, as usual.
14:55There should be a little bit of rain in the forecast.
14:57I don't think that's too much of a deal overall.
14:59I think the Cubs are – they're okay right now.
15:02Like, they look good at times.
15:03They look bad.
15:04You know, Kyle Tucker came back last week against the Angels.
15:07He's hitting home runs.
15:08They're kind of all over the place.
15:09But when it's all said and done, Herman Marquez is, A, not a good pitcher,
15:12and, B, they're at Coors Field.
15:14Now, we see some of these recent games from him when he's certainly piling up the strikeouts.
15:17One of those games was at Cincinnati.
15:20They're obviously a free-swing team.
15:21We have to take that with a grain of salt.
15:22But even though Cincinnati is a fantastic hitter's park, it's not Coors Field due to the elevation.
15:27So, let's go to Herman Marquez under three-and-a-half strikeouts.
15:31It is sitting at minus 128.
15:32Ultimately, when we're dealing with a bad pitcher and Coors Field and a team that I do believe in,
15:37ultimately, with the Cubs, even though they have been struggling,
15:39this is the time for them to get right and pile up the run.
15:41So, Herman Marquez could go five, six hundred runs in two innings,
15:44and he simply gets pulled.
15:46Or he just doesn't strike in and went out because he's not a good strikeout pitcher.
15:49Tom, we've got a couple young flamethrowers on the mound today.
15:52Two tees here.
15:53Tong and Toll.
15:55One pitching for Boston, one pitching for the Mets.
15:57The money agrees with them right now.
15:58By the way, Toll going up against Skeens.
16:00Really good young matchup there.
16:02Yeah, I would certainly look to the Mets as a bounce back again.
16:06I know, again, it's not based on just the one pitch making his debut,
16:09but they've had some success with, what was his name, McLean the past two weeks making his starts.
16:15But when it comes to Toll, I think that's really interesting.
16:17The fact that it's nearly a pick-em between him and Paul Skeens,
16:21I think that should tell you enough about how good Toll is.
16:23Some of his 30, 35% strikeout numbers from AAA, we have to take with a grain of salt.
16:27But as you guys were discussing in a previous segment,
16:30Joe, I think you said it, unders in the first five.
16:32I think that's where we have to be looking.
16:34Regardless of who wins, a lack of scoring,
16:36and there's going to be some rain in the forecast for Boston today.
16:39By the way, Tom, tonight the New Haven Chargers taking on Marist at 7 o'clock.
16:43Will you be in attendance at that game?
16:44Is that your hometown heroes?
16:45Oh, no, I will not be in attendance for that game.
16:49Never rooting for any New Haven-based teams, especially not Yale.
16:53QU never had a football team, so they're undefeated since 1929, so they've never lost.
16:59There you go.
17:00Don't come back.
17:00Keep that undefeated streak.
17:02That's Tom Vecchio bringing the heat today,
17:03looking out for some Major League Baseball action.
17:05I'm going to enjoy this weekend in the NCAA action.
17:08And also, joining me on Pro Baseball today once again, 10 a.m. on Sunday.
17:12Don't miss it.
17:12It's Labor Day weekend.
17:13Thanks for joining us, Tom.
17:14We'll shut it down next right here on the Early Line.
17:17Keeping it simple tonight, Major League Baseball back at it.
17:20Yesterday, Bryce Harper, thank you.
17:21Single to lead off the game.
17:22Second at bat, he hit a home run.
17:24I'm going Detroit and Kansas City.
17:26Paddock and Lugo, let's go over the nine.
17:28There were some eight and a half today, but okay, we'll take the nine.
17:30We'll make it 10 total runs tonight to cash in tickets here on a Friday.
17:35It's how we get down.
