00:00If you are just tuning in, Micah Parsons is a member of the Green Bay Packers.
00:04Adam Schefter now tweeting that it's two first-round draft picks and a front-line player.
00:10We don't know who it is yet. Maybe it's Jordan Love. I don't know.
00:13We're going to find out here very, very soon.
00:16And, Dibs, would you mind if I had a very brief, and I want your involvement in this,
00:22but a very brief conversation with my wife right here on the air?
00:26Sure.
00:27Because she's listening, and she texted, Cowboys had to, too much animosity.
00:32I don't necessarily disagree. This thing had gotten very, very ugly.
00:36Jerry Jones was on Michael Irvin's podcast just last week and was literally being like,
00:43so we had a deal, and the agent told me to go bleep myself.
00:46So Jerry Jones is way too proud of a man. He thinks he runs the league.
00:50I'm not surprised that it got to a divorce.
00:54I think as of a week or two ago, it absolutely looked like it was headed that way.
00:59But what I would say back to anybody who says too much animosity is who's responsible for the animosity.
01:06That's not all on Micah.
01:07So I don't think the Cowboys had to, because they are very much complicit in getting it to this moment.
01:15Now, was Micah being reasonable? Guess what? The Packers sure think so.
01:21Because if the Cowboys are sitting there going, we're not doing $47 million a year for an edge rusher.
01:28Well, guess what? The market says you will.
01:32And you have to do that.
01:33And this, you know, it's interesting how this relates to Juwan and more,
01:38because I know that Juwan is, he's not even a third of the player that Micah Parsons is.
01:43But again, what you need to know in the NFL, you need to know your worth.
01:49You need to know what someone else will pay.
01:51This is like when Tyreek Hill was all mad at the Chiefs,
01:54and they're like, we're not doing 30 mil for a receiver.
01:56And the Dolphins are like, we will.
01:58And now everybody does.
01:59And now we're closing in on 50 for a non-quarterback.
02:03And if Micah and his agent knew that that was out there, then very well played.
02:09And I'll also say if the Cowboys only got two firsts and a player,
02:13wow, they got schooled on this one.
02:16But Kenny Clark is the player, according to Adam Schefter.
02:19He's the nose tackle for Green Bay.
02:21So Dallas loses an edge, and they bring in a nose,
02:25a guy who was a first-round pick in 2016.
02:29So a veteran, highly regarded, and a guy who's been a mainstay for Green Bay.
02:33Did they get anything else, Grandy, besides the firsts and Kenny Clark?
02:36Adam Schefter says trade terms is just Kenny Clark and the two first-round picks.
02:40Oh, wow.
02:41Yeah.
02:42Are they both the next two years?
02:45We don't know that.
02:4626 and 27, I would assume.
02:48Probably, yeah.
02:49They're probably not even good first-round picks.
02:51Kenny Clark will also be 30 in October.
02:54Okay.
02:54So this is not like a young guy to build your defense around.
02:57No.
02:58Wow.
03:00Wow.
03:02Total mismanagement and just complete and utter lack of understanding how to do this.
03:13But it feels like they could have gotten more if that's all they got.
03:16Wow.
03:16And, you know, the idea about animosity, whether or not there was real animus or not,
03:21it seemed like it.
03:22And, you know, you can, as ownership, you can go about these things in a number of different ways.
03:27And even with the Niners and Nick Bosa, I don't think it ever got to the point of animosity.
03:32It got uncomfortable.
03:34It stretched out all the way into week one.
03:36They got it done.
03:37And Nick Bosa has maintained and continued to be a productive player.
03:42Yet, Dallas, the way that went, it clearly was not something that could be salvaged.
03:47And so, you get to this point and you're a little desperate to make a move.
03:50Oh, I'm stunned.
03:54I'm absolutely stunned.
03:57And, again, just to sort of like bring a few different aspects of this in, especially to our listeners here in the Bay Area,
04:06I want to go back to something I said there on the crossover, which is, to me, it has to be the hallmark of a healthy organization,
04:13which is that when you are lucky enough to strike gold in the draft, and you, like, it's a drafted player who ends up being an absolute star,
04:22I just do not see many scenarios where it's ever right to let that person go over money until that person is, like, not producing.
04:31Do you know what I mean?
04:31If the Niners ever got into some sort of squabble over dollars with Fred Warner or George Kittle, like, that would infuriate me as a fan.
04:41So, if you're a Dallas fan, to have this guy still be coming off of his rookie deal and be 26 years old
04:48and as surefire of an absolute defensive stud as he is for the next five to seven years,
04:56for you to let that guy out of the building because your feelings got hurt, that just shows Jerry Jones is being run by his own ego.
05:04I get it.
05:05He might be the most powerful person in the league, but it has clearly reached a spot where it is a net.
05:11It has been a net negative within the organization, and I'm glad that the San Francisco 49ers, at least, like, that's something that they try.
05:20It doesn't work every time, but they try to make a hallmark of the organization.
05:24If we draft a guy who's really good, we keep him.
05:27And they've done that.
05:28And you're hard-pressed to find any of those guys that they haven't kept.
05:32And you can look at Mike McGlinchey, who they drafted, and they kept, and he got to a point,
05:37and you realize you could probably replace him, and he was maybe not an A-lister.
05:42And you look at the other guys, Ayuk, they think is an A-lister, and Brock Purdy, and Nick Bosa, and Fred Warner, and George Kittle,
05:49and you go all around the guys that they have drafted and they've kept.
05:53They value that.
05:54And yet the Cowboys, they did that with Dak.
05:56Okay.
05:57You did that with CeeDee Lamb.
05:59And that's about it.
06:01And you have this opportunity with Micah Parsons, and you just alienated him so badly.
06:07You tried to go around the agent and go straight to the player.
06:10And, you know, basically Micah saw that, and he sided with the agent over the owner.
06:16I can't believe that somebody tweeted out, well, what Dallas is hoping here is to kind of reboot a Herschel Walker-type trade.
06:24Two picks and Kenny?
06:27And I'm sorry, Kenny's a good player.
06:29Kenny Clark, that's a good football player.
06:32But are you serious?
06:35Whoa.
06:36Whoa.
06:37I mean, ah.
06:41We'll see how things play out.
06:42But on paper, that is one of the worst trades that I can remember in recent memory in the National Football League.
06:49It makes the Luka Doncic trade look like a pretty even swap.
06:54You know, because at least in that trade, the Mavericks got Anthony Davis, right?
06:59They got a real Hall of Fame caliber player.
07:01Kenny Clark is a good player, but you got two firsts and an interior defensive lineman,
07:06and you gave up one of the, I don't know, 15 best players in all of football?
07:11You got fleeced.
07:12One time in the last six years has the Packers' first-round pick even been in the top 20.
07:18That's the other thing.
07:19You just got first-round picks from a really good football team.
07:23So they're not even good first-round picks.
07:25Like, you could use yours and theirs and package that and maybe move up to number one or two or three or whatever.
07:32I don't know how this is all going to play out.
07:34Again, if you're just joining us, Micah Parsons has been traded to the Green Bay Packers
07:38for two first-round picks and nose tackle Kenny Clark.
07:42And Parsons signs the richest non-quarterback deal in the history of the league, which is predictable, by the way.
07:49What maybe was not predictable is how high the AAV is.
07:52It's $47 million a year.
07:55A four-year, is that $188?
07:57Did I get that right?
07:58A four-year $188 for Micah Parsons.
08:02Talk about resetting the market.
08:03Yeah, and the guarantee is well, well above $100 million as well.
08:08But if you are Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, and I know his ego is big enough that he don't care,
08:14but get ready, dude.
08:15You're about to have a week-long news cycle where the people on your side equal 0%.
08:21It's going to be a small number.
08:220% think you just did a good thing.
08:24Maybe Kenny Clark's family, and they've always wanted to get back to the Texas area,
08:29but you mentioned Herschel Walker before.
08:31Dallas traded Herschel Walker a couple of thirds and a fifth,
08:35and they got back three firsts, three seconds, a third, and four players.
08:41That's what the Herschel Walker trade netted.
08:44Skip ahead.
08:45Micah Parsons is maybe not as good as Herschel was then, you could argue.
08:50I think a more important position.
08:52Sure, but the point is Dallas got two firsts and a player,
08:56whereas before they got four players and they got eight picks,
08:59including three firsts and three seconds.
09:02Wow, man.
09:03Absolutely crazy.
09:06And I, like, you know what I also want to do?
09:09Because there's also people always, you know,
09:13like there's an immediate reaction to that.
09:15What has this done to the Packers' Super Bowl odds?
09:18Like, how does this kind of change?
09:20Yeah, they have vaulted to the third team in the NFC just because of this move.
09:25The Green Bay Packers are now trailing only the Eagles and the Detroit Lions in the NFC,
09:31and then immediately behind the Packers and tied are the Washington Commanders and the San Francisco 49ers,
09:38tied for fourth in terms of Super Bowl odds in the NFC.
09:42So the Packers fire up the board because they got the best in the game at a very, very key position,
09:47or at least among the best.
09:49I don't know who the other names are, Bosa, Watt, whatever, Micah Parsons.
09:53Yeah, Crosby, sure.
09:54Sure, those are the guys.
09:55And it is an incredibly important position.
09:58It will change the Packers' defense.
09:59We watched how Nick Bosa did that for the 49ers a few years ago,
10:03and I believe that Micah will do that for the Packers.
10:06You love a little potential downgrade for the Detroit Lions this year.
10:10I don't know, man.
10:11Are the Packers now the favorite in that very difficult division?
10:14You'd be hard-pressed to pick another team.
10:16I think Minnesota takes a step back with a rookie quarterback we just don't know.
10:21Chicago takes a step up.
10:23Can they take two up?
10:24And Detroit, still good.
10:26Lost both coordinators, and tough to have a year like the one you had last year.
10:31There was a little bit of a natural regression.
10:33So if I was to bet, my money would be on Green Bay.
10:37Just one other note, Mark, about Kenny Clark making $2.3 million this year.
10:42Then it goes to $21.5 million and then $20 million in the next two years.
10:47So you basically got Kenny Clark for one year.
10:50Unless you want to pay a nose tackle $21.5 million next year,
10:55you largely just got a player for this year and two first-round picks.
10:59I can't explain this one.
11:01I can't explain this one other than that I'm a human being,
11:04and I know that some people let the emotions get the best of them.
11:07But that's the only thing I can say about the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones here.
11:12Let the emotions get the best of you.
11:14And you just sent an absolute, sure-fire, 26-year-old,
11:21Hall of Fame track, edge rusher, out the door for three, like, whatevers.
11:28Honestly, didn't Kyle Shanahan say the other day that almost all draft picks
11:32are essentially 50-50?
11:35You just got two late first-round draft picks and a guy named Kenny for a year.
11:42It's stunning.
11:43It is.
11:44It's absolutely stunning what they just did.
11:46It's one thing if you're going to trade him, which I think is nonsensical in and of itself,
11:51but to get this back, to get two firsts, like you said,
11:55Green Bay should be good enough to where those picks may not even be in the top 20.
11:59So, yeah, you'll have your pick, and you'll have a second first-round pick,
12:02which is not nothing, but compared to an actual, we found him, real-life, edge rusher, game wrecker,
12:10now you don't have that.
12:11And guess what?
12:12You're going to have to use one of those picks in the draft and find that guy and hope you get it right.
12:16And you probably won't.
12:17At 20, yeah.
12:18I mean, well, actually, you almost definitely won't.
12:20You're not going to find Micah.
12:22You know what we're talking about here?
12:24Like, I would bet that general managers around the league think that that's one of the 10 most important players in the game.
12:31Quarterbacks included.
12:33I mean, Micah Parsons, if you just opened up a draft to the general managers of the league right now
12:39and went, take any player you want, where does Micah go?
12:42Top 15 for sure.
12:45For sure.
12:46Absolutely stunning stuff.
