00:00And in the meantime, the president signaling that the city of Chicago could be the next place to get a visit from the National Guard.
00:06This after President Trump deployed almost 2,000 troops to Washington, D.C. as part of his crime crackdown there.
00:12Mike Tobin has the latest from the Windy City. Mike, good morning to you.
00:17Good morning, Bill. And it looks like the president has positioned himself to follow through on this promise to deploy the National Guard,
00:23possibly even active duty military, to the city of Chicago.
00:26There's reporting coming through The Washington Post quoting an anonymous Pentagon source who said that planning has been in the works for weeks for such a deployment.
00:35Now, Chicago's mayor, Brandon Johnson, notes that violent crime is down in the Windy City.
00:41And in fact, it is. But when you look at the numbers, the murder rates in Chicago and D.C.
00:46triple and quadruple the murder rates in big cities like New York and Los Angeles.
00:50So on Friday, the president made his comments about deploying troops.
00:53Chicago is a mess. You have an incompetent mayor, grossly incompetent, and we'll straighten that one out probably next.
01:01That'll be our next one after this. And it won't even be tough.
01:06We've been saying that the Democratic Party policies are destroying our community.
01:11So to hear President Trump, to see that he's listening to us and he hears us, that felt very, very good.
01:21I mean, that was awesome.
01:24Both Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Mayor Johnson released statements that there has been no communication with Washington about deploying the Guard.
01:31We're not going to surrender our humanity to this tyrant.
01:37I can tell you this. The city of Chicago has a long history of standing up against tyranny, resisting those who wish to undermine the interests of working people.
01:46We're not going to back down. We're not going to cower. We're not going to bend. We're not going to break.
01:50The official weekend totals are not out yet, but looking at Chicago police records from sundown Friday till now, there have been 29 shootings and four stabbings. Bill?
02:01All right. Mike Tobin live in Chicago for us this morning. Mike, thanks.
