00:00Hello and welcome to this South Australian Janesweather update for Monday.
00:04We have got moisture pouring in from the north-west.
00:07We've got all of this speckled cloud that is over in the west there.
00:11I waited till later in the day to record this today so you can see just how big and widespread that cold air mass is that is heading our way.
00:19So today we've got this cloud band out ahead.
00:21It's not producing a lot in terms of wet weather, particularly in the south-east, but there is plenty more to come.
00:27Let's have a look at the weather map.
00:28So by the end of Monday, the cold front is here, running down in through there.
00:32So it's the north-eastern parts of South Australia by the very end of the day.
00:36Here's the cloud band.
00:37It's over in the west today, only just brushing the south-east in terms of reaching the ground later on.
00:42In behind that, there is still plenty to come.
00:45And why?
00:46Let's have a look at high pressure.
00:47I know I like low pressure, but high pressure is really important.
00:50The centre of the high is up in through here.
00:52It's packed its bags.
00:53It's moved up to north-east New South Wales, south-east Queensland.
00:55It's taking a holiday.
00:56It's no longer acting like a bouncer.
00:59It's no longer deflecting systems from moving across the south-east.
01:02So it's allowing them to come through.
01:04That's the first part.
01:05Where's the next high pressure system?
01:07It is so far back to the west, it is off this page here.
01:10So that means there is plenty of room for cold fronts and big weather systems to just keep on coming through during the week.
01:17This is just the first part of it.
01:19There is plenty more to come.
01:20So let's look day by day.
01:22Here we have Tuesday.
01:22Here is our big band of rain that is coming through during the day on Tuesday.
01:27So that is wet as it comes in.
01:29Cold front up to here by now.
01:30But look at how these isobars are moving through.
01:34Think of them as road markings on a map.
01:36They tell us where the air is actually coming from.
01:38Back here, we move with these isobars, these road markings here.
01:42The air is coming from Antarctica.
01:44So it's coming up from there.
01:45It is cold.
01:46But watch them move across and now come in from the west in through here, a westerly wind.
01:51So it doesn't have that bitter edge to it just yet.
01:54But yes, that is certainly to come.
01:56So here we are during the day on Tuesday.
01:58Let's now have a look at Wednesday.
02:00That's a straight shot straight up from Antarctica.
02:02We're really going to feel that as it comes through.
02:04Still wet weather coming in with it.
02:06Into Thursday, still wet weather coming in with it.
02:09We've got another kink in this here.
02:10There's another instability burst that's ready to come through.
02:14That's Thursday.
02:15Now into Friday, that is going to be bitterly cold.
02:18Look at that straight up from the south.
02:20We're really going to feel that.
02:21And then into Saturday, it starts to ease as, hey, that next high pressure system is finally on its way in.
02:27We need to wait for that to arrive for all of this to actually clear out.
02:31In terms of totals, yes, we are going to see some.
02:34If you're after rain, there are some great rainfall totals coming this week.
02:37But let's unpack it a little bit.
02:38Let's move into the southeast, or anywhere that you can see that is yellow, is 25 to 50 millimeters.
02:43Lovely.
02:44Heading down further, 50 to 75, even 75 to 100 right on that coast.
02:49Let's zoom into Adelaide in through here.
02:50So 50 to 75, 75 to 100.
02:54That's the big falls over the next week that are coming through the Adelaide area.
02:57But watch the pattern here.
02:59It crosses the water.
03:01It increases as it hits that shoreline, hits that instability.
03:04It hits the ranges in through here, and then it dries out on the other side.
03:08So you're likely to see a big burst of it, and then just the dissipation, the leftovers as it comes across the ranges.
03:14You could also see that in the southeast, how it steadily decreases as it heads inland.
03:18You can see it here too.
03:20We had that rain band that's coming in through here.
03:22So nice falls up here.
03:23But there's a bit of a potential block that's happening in through there.
03:27It'll hit the coast.
03:28It'll decrease as it comes in.
03:30And then not as much in through these areas here.
03:31So that is something to keep an eye on.
03:33OK, let's have a look at what that means for Adelaide as we go through.
03:36Today is the warm day.
03:37We do have the cloud that has built.
03:39There is a little bit of light rain, so it kicks off later on, 4 millimetres in total.
03:44Watch those totals increase as the week goes on.
03:46So 80, 30, 30, 11, 12.
03:50Lovely.
03:51So the cold air, you saw how it went from being a westerly to a southwesterly and then a southerly.
03:56That's when we get the coldest air that comes through at the end of the week.
03:59So 9 millimetres, 17, 21, 26 and then it decreases as we go into the weekend.
04:05So there's lots of wet weather that comes through here and the gusty winds that come with it too
04:09and that beautifully cold air as it comes up from the south.
04:12As always, head to File Online Weather for the latest.
