Leeds United writer Lee Sobot on the latest Whites team news and the blow of losing captain Ethan Ampadu until after the September international break with a medial collateral ligament knee injury.
Transcript
00:01Hello there, Lee Sobot at the Orchard Evening Post here from Thorpe Arch
00:05where we've just had Daniel Farker's pre-Arsenal press conference
00:08and bad news unfortunately on the injuries front
00:11sort of an injury that we all kind of feared might be the case
00:14which is that Ethan Ampadu is now out with an MCL injury, a knee injury
00:19that said, hopefully it won't be too bad
00:21but he is going to be out until the international break
00:23so he's going to miss obviously Saturday's game at Arsenal
00:26also the League Cup game next weekend, Sheffield Wednesday
00:29and then the home clash against Newcastle United the following Saturday evening
00:32so out of those three games, big blow for Leeds
00:35he was absolutely outstanding the other night
00:37it has to be said when he went down after that challenge in the second half
00:40it didn't look great, he looked in real pain, looked frustrated, upset
00:44and I was very surprised actually that he got up and continued
00:46but he has made a very very strong stuffy for Nampadu
00:49and within that is probably the sort of bit of hope that you have now
00:52because he does tend to recover quite quickly from these injuries
00:55so let's hope that he is obviously back a little bit
00:58maybe surprises people with how quickly he comes back
01:01but I think he is certainly going to be out of these next three games
01:04which is a big blow because as I say, outstanding the other night
01:07probably means obviously somebody else is going to have to
01:09well it will mean somebody else is going to have to come in to a CDM role
01:12Anton Stack is probably the most likely candidate for that
01:15although Ilya Gruov is there as well
01:17that said, more positive news on the new signings front
01:20Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn't featured as yet
01:22that's not been a surprise because as soon as he signed last Friday
01:25Daniel Farker said afterwards that it might be international break
01:28after the international break until he featured for the first time
01:31yes he said he had been training but not pre-season, not team training
01:35said that each session is beneficial to him
01:38and basically they will make a spontaneous decision on when he features
01:41I mean, he is not going to be starting is he?
01:43but you never know, he might be someone that pops up on the bench
01:45and the same also with new signing Noah Okafor
01:48you can see potentially bench for him
01:49he signed literally a couple of hours before the press conference
01:52signed from AC Milan
01:54four year deal, around about ÂŁ18m
01:57including add-ons
01:59so the biggest signing so far just about of the summer
02:02the bonus with Okafor is he has already been involved with AC Milan
02:05both in pre-season and I think it was a Coppa Italia game recently as well
02:09so his fitness will be a bit further on
02:11that said obviously he hasn't had one training session as yet
02:15the first one will be today
02:17so again with him probably be a bit touch and go
02:20but could maybe see again on the bench
02:22I think that's basically it on the team news front
02:23obviously Sebastian Bornau was the other injury
02:26but he came back onto the bench the other night
02:28so he's all good
02:29and Jadon Bogle obviously is now back in the mix as well
02:32having started
02:33so he should obviously be in better shape for the Arsenal game
02:35but no doubt about the headline act
02:37Ampadu injured, massive shame
02:39class player, captain as well
02:40probably means Pascal is going to be captain I would imagine
02:42Pascal Stroik being that said
02:44you know maybe you would have thought initially the ACAB hall would start
02:47but I don't think Fark will change it really
02:50after Pascal and Joe Rodon get to clean sheets
02:53you're probably looking at one change I would imagine
02:55against Arsenal
02:56waiting to see who comes in
02:57whether it's Gruev or whether it's Longstaff or something like that
02:59but yeah big blow, Ethan Ampadu out and let's just hope he's back ASAP
03:03that's all for now
03:05go onto our website for all the pre-Arsenal build up
03:07we will catch you soon
03:08Cheers
