00:00No, no, we can't get into that.
00:07See, she tries and makes, you know, keeps me going, but I can't, I can't.
00:16Don't laugh like that, you're making me laugh.
00:19I hope you edit this real good.
00:21Man can no longer fall back on established religion as a sort of identity, a collective identity.
00:33And occultism is a sort of do-it-yourself God kit in whatever form it takes.
00:40Man must learn, of course, his animal nature by studying the nature of the beast and from the children.
00:46It's a childlike sense of wonder, and to be able to relate to these things within him and the animal within him in order to develop into the higher man.
00:59There's this fink line, this little flame that's inside of everyone, and one must be purged of any carnal desires.
01:08And the only way to rid oneself of carnal desires is to release them fully.
01:15Pain is all I've ever known.
01:18Pain is how the world has always talked to me.
01:20Why shouldn't pain be how I talk back?
01:25My mother worked in a boot factory.
01:28She breathed in all of those chemicals when she was pregnant with me.
01:32I was poisoned before I even took my first breath.
01:35My mother worked in娘's himself.
01:39I knew it was born with me.
01:39I was poisoned before I even took my first breath.
01:41I was betrayed by my voyez's dog, and I had to
02:01He was a Green Beret just back from Vietnam.
02:11And he showed me pictures of all the girls he killed over there in the jungle.
02:15You could do anything there, he told me.
02:17You were free.
02:18His wife didn't like him showing me.
02:21She didn't want me to be free.
02:23Satan is a stabilizing force in my life.
02:27It gives me a reason to be an excuse to rationalize.
02:35Cocaine is extremely destabilizing, causing a diminished sense of self-control of one's more improper urges.
02:45Ramirez clearly was searching for a structured sense of self to give him personal identity.
02:58And first, I think he latched onto Miguel, and then Satan becomes something of a father figure.
03:06Who is Satan?

06:19On April 10th, 1984, Ramirez murdered May Lung, a 9-year-old Chinese-American girl,
06:32in the basement of his apartment building in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco.
06:39Lung was with her 8-year-old brother and looking for a lost $1 bill when Ramirez approached the girl
06:46and told her to follow him into the basement to find it.
06:51Once they were in the basement, Ramirez beat, strangled, and raped Lung before stabbing her
06:59to death with a switchblade, hanging her partially nude body from a pipe by her blouse.
07:06How can anyone like this man?
07:08The killing was not linked to Ramirez until 2009, when his DNA was matched to a sample
07:15obtained at the crime scene.
07:19In 2016, officials disclosed evidence of a second suspect, identified through another DNA sample
07:26retrieved from the scene, who is believed to have been present at Lung's murder.
07:32Authorities had not publicly identified the suspect, described as being a juvenile at the time,
07:38and have not brought charges due to the lack of evidence.
07:41On June 28, 1984, 79-year-old Jenny Venkow was found murdered in her apartment in Glassell Park, Los Angeles.
07:54She had been stabbed repeatedly in the head, neck, and chest while asleep in her bed,
08:00and her throat slashed so deeply that she was nearly decapitated.
08:05Ramirez's fingerprints were found on a mesh screen he removed to gain access through an open window.
08:14This, his second known murder, established his pattern of breaking into homes, committing
08:20particularly vicious murders, and frequently burglarizing his victims, either before or after
08:27killing them, which was mainly to support his drug addiction and pay his rent.
08:32Nine months later, on March 17, 1985, Ramirez attacked 22-year-old Maria Hernandez outside her home
08:44in Rosemed, shooting her in the face with a .22 caliber handgun after she pulled into her garage.
08:52She survived when the bullet ricocheted off the keys she held in her hand as she lifted them
08:58to protect herself. Hernandez played dead until Ramirez left the scene.
09:04Inside the house, her roommate, 34-year-old Dale Yoshi Okazaki, heard the gunshot and ducked behind
09:12the counter when she saw Ramirez enter the kitchen. When she raised her head to get a look at what had
09:18happened, Ramirez, who was waiting for Okazaki to peek over the counter, shot her once in the forehead,
09:25killing her instantly. Accused Night Stalker Richard Ramirez sat calmly while a witness today pointed him out
09:32as the man who tried to kill her in March 1985.
09:36Do you see in the courtroom today the man that you saw that night and that shot you?
09:41Yes.
09:41When you point him out for the jury?
09:43The man on the end.
09:45What's he wearing?
09:46Uh, dark suit, dark glasses.
09:48Okay, that Richard Ramirez for the record.
09:49By court order, Maria Hernandez could not be photographed. In a steady voice, she told the
09:55jury how Ramirez approached her at gunpoint in her condominium security garage and fired
10:00one shot at her face before killing her roommate. The bullet pierced her right hand, which she
10:05raised as a shield. She said she was able to run out of the garage before seeing the defendant
10:09again, this time leaving through her apartment's front door.
10:13I, uh, said something like, please don't shoot me again. Shortly after I finished speaking,
10:18he lowered the gun and he ran away.
10:21Within an hour of the Rosemead attack, Ramirez pulled 30-year-old Cy Lane Veronica Yu out of
10:28her car, shot her twice with a .22 caliber handgun, and fled. She was pronounced dead upon arrival
10:36at the hospital. The two murders and an attempted third in a single day attracted extensive coverage from
10:44news media, who dubbed the attacker described as curly-haired with bulging eyes and wide-spaced
10:51rotting teeth, the walk-in killer, and the valley intruder. One week later, at approximately 2 a.m.
11:00on March 27th, 1985, Ramirez entered a home that he had burglarized a year earlier, just outside of
11:09Whittier, and killed 64-year-old Vincent Charles Zazara in his sleep with a gunshot to his head.
11:17Zazara's wife, 44-year-old Maxine Lavinia Zazara, was awakened by the gunshot. Ramirez beat her and bound
11:26her hands, while demanding to know where her valuables were. When he ransacked the room,
11:33Maxine escaped her buns and retrieved a shotgun from under the bed, which she was unaware was not
11:38loaded. She pulled the trigger just after he turned around and saw her. The infuriated Ramirez shot her
11:47three times with this handgun, killing her, then fetched a large carving knife from the kitchen.
11:53He mutilated her body by cutting an inverted cross into her chest, then removed her eyes and placed
12:01them in a jewelry box. He attempted to have sex with her body, but found himself so shaken by her
12:10attempting to shoot him that he was unable to achieve an erection. He took the jewelry box containing her
12:17eyes and kept it at his apartment as a souvenir until his arrest. Ramirez left footprints from a pair of
12:25avia sneakers in the flower beds, which the police photographed and cast. Bullets found at the scene
12:34were matched to those found at the previous attacks, and the police determined that a serial killer was
12:40at large. On May 14th, 1985, Ramirez returned to Monterey Park and entered the home of 66-year-old Bill
12:50Doy and his disabled wife, 56-year-old Lillian Doy. Surprising Doy in his bedroom, Ramirez shot him in the face
13:00with a .22 semi-automatic pistol, as Doy went for his own handgun. After beating the mortally wounded
13:08man into unconsciousness, Ramirez entered Lillian's bedroom, bound her with thumb cuffs, then raped her.
13:17After he had ransacked the home for valuables, Bill died of his injuries while in the hospital.
13:22Two weeks later, on May 29th, Ramirez drove a stolen car to Monrovia and stopped at the house of Mabel
13:31Ma Bell, age 83, and her disabled sister, 81-year-old Florence Nettie Lange.
13:40Finding a hammer in the kitchen, he bludgeoned and bound Lange in her bedroom, then bound and
13:47bludgeoned Bell before using an electrical cord to shock the woman. After raping Lange, he used
13:55Bell's lipstick to draw the satanic pentagram symbol on her thigh as well as on the walls of both
14:02bedrooms. The women were found two days later alive but comatose and critically injured. Bell died in
14:11the hospital from her injuries on July 15th. Lange died in August. The next day, Ramirez drove the
14:20same car to Burbank and snuck into the home of 42-year-old Carol Kyle. At gunpoint, he bound Kyle
14:28and her 11-year-old son with handcuffs before ransacking the house. He released Kyle to direct
14:35him to where the family's valuables were. He then raped her repeatedly. Ramirez also repeatedly ordered
14:43her not to look at him, telling her at one point that he would, quote, cut her eyes out, unquote. He
14:51fled the scene after retrieving the child from the closet and binding the two together again with the
14:58handcuffs. On the night of July 2nd, 1985, Ramirez drove a stolen car to Arcadia and randomly selected
15:09the house of 75-year-old Mary Louise Cannon, a widowed grandmother. After quietly entering Cannon's home,
15:18he found her asleep in her bedroom. He bludgeoned her into unconsciousness with a lamp and then stabbed
15:25her to death using a 10-inch butcher knife from her kitchen. Ramirez repeatedly stabbed Cannon's body
15:34after she was already dead. Three nights later, Ramirez broke into a home in Sierra Madre and
15:43bludgeoned 16-year-old Whitney Bennett with a tire iron as she slept in her bedroom. After searching in
15:51vein for a knife in the kitchen, Ramirez tried to strangle the girl with a telephone cord.
15:59He stated that he was startled to see electrical sparks emanate from the cord, and when his victim
16:04began to breathe, he fled the house, believing that Jesus Christ had intervened to save her. Bennett
16:12survived the attack, although 478 stitches were required to close the lacerations to her scalp.
16:21On July 7, Ramirez burglarized the home of 60-year-old Joyce Lucille Nelson in Monterey Park. Finding her
16:30asleep on her living room couch, he beat her to death by stomping on her face repeatedly. A shoe print from
16:39an avia sneaker was left imprinted on her face. After cruising two other neighborhoods, he returned to
16:47Monterey Park and chose the home of Sophie Dickman, age 63. Ramirez assaulted and handcuffed Dickman at gunpoint,
16:56attempted to rape her, and stole her jewelry. When she swore to him that he had taken everything of value, he told her to
17:05to, quote, swear on Satan, unquote.
