00:00Oh yeah, back on the early line, it's hour number one.
00:02We're getting, things are falling into place, Joe Ranieri, right?
00:05The closer we get to the NFL season, the more answers that we get.
00:08Now, are people still upset about their contract?
00:10Trey Hendrickson says, I'm not budging.
00:12Neither is Terry McLaurin.
00:13Micah Parsons, he's almost on the back burner.
00:15We don't even get any squabbles anymore between Jerry and Micah Parsons.
00:18Like, hey, you know what?
00:19We already agreed to this deal 15 minutes before we play the Eagles.
00:22We'll announce the deal, but always under the assumption that he was playing anyway.
00:26Talking about Micah Parsons.
00:27But one thing that popped up yesterday where we're talking about the day before,
00:31Joe Flacco's starting quarterback here for the Cleveland Browns.
00:34It was like, okay, that makes sense.
00:35The guys are injured.
00:36He's a starting quarterback.
00:37He's been around the block, and we'll see how many starts that he gets.
00:40This one that came up yesterday did surprise me a little bit.
00:43Daniel Jones has been named the starting quarterback here for the Indianapolis Colts.
00:47And if we were looking, Joe, at the odds market just a few weeks ago,
00:50like a week and a half ago, heavily skewed and heavily favored
00:53to obviously the backup quarterback now, who is Richardson.
00:56But Richardson obviously isn't performing up to capabilities because you didn't get beat out
01:01by an aging Aaron Rodgers.
01:04Like, hey, man, I can live with this.
01:05An aging Joe Flacco.
01:07You get Daniel Jones, who doesn't do anything spectacular.
01:11Like, if you look at his Giants career, Yeoman's work for the most part.
01:14But as he got later, he could almost, you know, agree that he was better as like a rookie
01:18in a second year than he was later in his career.
01:21Doesn't throw the football downfield.
01:22Doesn't make good decisions at this point.
01:24But he beat out Anthony Richardson.
01:27Joe, I can't.
01:28I am confused about the Colts right now.
01:31Well, you know, part of me is like, all right, we got a few things working here.
01:36Right, Donnie?
01:37That could really be a whole lot of fun.
01:39Number one, suppose he has the best year of his career because maybe he's finally got some
01:46stability in a offense and a head coach and an offensive coordinator.
01:51Something, by the way, he never had with the Giants from the minute he was drafted number six in 2019 overall.
02:00So maybe, just maybe, he shows he can actually hold the fort down and win a few games here for Shane Steichen.
02:07The other thing is, they should have done this the minute they drafted Richardson, what, three years ago, Donnie, two years ago?
02:15He should have been on the bench, learning the game, behind a guy like Danny Dimes.
02:21I think they didn't do him any favors starting him the last couple of years, getting hurt.
02:25He wasn't ready to be an NFL quarterback and a leader among men in that locker room after one year at Florida.
02:34This is exactly the path they should have took two years ago, but now that's what, he's only 23, Donnie.
02:40I mean, they're not getting rid of him.
02:43He's only 23.
02:45This is exactly what they should do to calm the situation down.
02:49Hey, it's not like it was Chris Winkie coming into the league or Tyler Shock that, you know,
02:52hey, man, your half-year prime is already away, it seems like.
02:54And even Jaden Daniels, we love how young and athletic he is.
02:57He's older than Anthony Richardson.
02:59So there is something to Shane Steichen coming out of that, you know, post-practice press conference saying,
03:03we still have big things and high hopes for Richardson, which, again, is not brand new into the league.
03:07He's been here a couple years.
03:08Like, Lamar Jackson came in young and was dynamic right away.
03:11We just haven't seen the capabilities that he is a competent starting quarterback.
03:14And I do agree with that.
03:16But when I look at the Colts, it's similar, Joe, the way that I look at the Cleveland Browns.
03:20What's the MO for the organization?
03:22Daniel Jones is not your franchise guy.
03:25So what are you trying to do as an organization?
03:27I understand general managers to keep their job, coaches to keep their job, owners to be happy where they can go out in public.
03:33You do have to win football games.
03:34There is some merit to that.
03:36But if you're telling me, like, Daniel Jones' optics are he's going to play 17 weeks,
03:39we're going to win six football games and not find out about Anthony Richardson at all anymore,
03:43I don't know what we're doing.
03:44Like, for me, if you started Anthony Richardson in week number one, Joe, and he was terrible in the month of September,
03:51you know what you do?
03:52All right, kid, get to the bench.
03:53Daniel Jones is going to be the starter the rest of the way.
03:55Try to learn.
03:56We don't think you have a future here, but we're not going to cut you because there is a chance that Daniel Jones can get hurt
04:00and we'll need you to get back in that football game sometime later in the season.
04:04That's what I'm worried about.
04:05So from my angle, it's not as if I don't like Daniel Jones because I really don't, to be honest.
04:09But it's Anthony Richardson I have to find out about.
04:11I already found out about Daniel Jones, right?
04:15Well, that's the whole point, did we?
04:18Because we supposedly figured out Sam Darnold, too, until he ended up with the right coach in the right situation.
04:25And all of a sudden, Sam Darnold now is not what we thought he was.
04:30So all I'm saying is I believe in Shane Steichen.
04:33You know him, former Eagles OC, right?
04:37The guy is a great offensive mind in the NFL.
04:41If he thinks Danny Dimes gives him the best shot at winning this right now, then you've got to take that on face value and say,
04:47hey, you know, he gives us the best chance of winning.
04:51Could we be seeing Sam Darnold number two here, a guy that was buried with an organization that did him no favors?
04:58Let's see if Shane Steichen can get the best out of Danny Dimes before we take a knife to it.
05:05I don't think he can, though.
05:06At least Sam Darnold came in.
05:08I was like, oh, there's some excitement there.
05:09I think when Daniel Jones got drafted to the Giants, like outside of Giants fans, we all laughed at the Giants fans and the Giants.
05:14Like, what is this guy going to do?
05:15And he turned out to have 24 touchdowns his rookie year, Joe.
05:18Then had 11, 10, 15, 2, and 8 after that.
05:21I just don't think he's a quarterback that you can rely on except for just to get starts and not get victories here.
05:27Now, they're going to come up and take on the Miami Dolphins in week number one.
05:30You look at the lines there.
05:30The Dolphins are getting two and a half points.
05:32The Colts are a two and a half point favorite in a total of 46 and a half.
05:36And he's surprised in that one because, to be honest, that could go either.
05:38I'm telling you right now, if the Dolphins lose that game, there's a chance that they might fire their head coach right on the spot before they can get to the tarmac.
05:45Yeah, well, the Dolphins have their own set of issues they're dealing with.
05:50But, listen, Danny Dimes under center versus Richardson doesn't move the needle one way or the other.
05:55I'm not running to fade the Colts' win total.
05:58I'm not running to back the over because I think they're going to be – they made the right decision.
06:04I mean, to me, I don't believe the market's moving one way or the other with Daniel Jones or Richardson.
06:09The upside for Richardson, obviously, more athletic, has an ability to be able to beat him.
06:15Doesn't mean, by the way, Donnie, that the threat of Richardson or having packages that he can run aren't going to happen here.
06:23But I'd be shocked.
06:25I'd be very, very shocked if Miami doesn't win that first game.
06:30But if Indy does win it, then we're going to have to take a hard look at what this Colts team is moving forward.
06:38Or maybe just look to fade Miami as often as possible.
06:42Jonathan Taylor in that backfield.
06:44You know, some wide receiver work.
06:46Daniel Jones out dueling Tua.
06:48Tyreek's going to be upset.
06:49Waddle's going to pop a hamstring here.
06:51They have no defensive lineman here that you can rush the quarterback with.
06:54And Daniel Jones goes for 225.
06:56Two scores in the air and one on the ground.
06:58And the Colts are triumphant here.
07:00Can that play out in South Florida at that point?
07:02What's that, the Sun Sentinel?
07:03Who's going to print that out down there?
07:04Oh, no, McDaniel fired there after a big loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
07:08It could happen.
07:09But also, we want to take that picture of now with Daniel Jones as a starting quarterback, Joe,
07:14does that change any thoughts here in the AFC South for myself and Joe Ranieri?
07:19Come on back to the early line.
07:20Talk about everything.
07:21It's a hump day Wednesday right here on the Sports Grid Network.
07:24It's the early line.
07:25It's Donnie Wright's out and it's Joe Ranieri.
07:26Taking a look at what the Colts' futures might actually be at this point.
07:29When the news came down yesterday, Joe, that Daniel Jones was the starting quarterback here
07:34for the Indianapolis Colts, I put out a tweet right away.
07:36It's like, crazy, man.
07:37Like, I didn't see that coming.
07:38Like, if it would have been like Anthony Richardson is going to start, I would have saw that.
07:41Because, correct me if I'm wrong, minus 200s, minus 300s as a favorite for Richardson.
07:45We had a quarterback race, Joe, over the summer that saw both of these guys as the favorite
07:50at one time.
07:50If you remember, it's like, of course Daniel Jones is going to start.
07:52Anthony Richardson can't throw a football.
07:54Something's wrong with his shoulder.
07:56Only to find out, like, three days later, like, no, my shoulder is fine.
07:58And he went back to the favorite here.
07:59Neither one of these guys lit the world on fire in the preseason.
08:02But I always tell you, Joe, right?
08:03And you understand this.
08:04You don't win it by playing in the preseason games.
08:07You win it, like, in the locker room.
08:09You win it on the chalkboard.
08:10You win it in the meetings.
08:11And you win it on the practice field.
08:13And it's apparent that Daniel Jones is playing better football in practice to Shane Steichen
08:17than, obviously, Anthony Richardson is.
08:20Yeah, to me, this all stems from how much faith do you have in Shane Steichen and doing this?
08:25It's obvious that the front office, which is a good thing, is saying, it's your call, Shane.
08:31Like, which one, you know, yes, we drafted him, you know, the fourth pick here a couple
08:36of years ago.
08:36But if you don't feel it gives us the best shot to win, we know other organizations who
08:41have made moves like this.
08:42Kind of the demand came from the top and said, you're going to play him.
08:46We're going to figure it out.
08:47And that's going to be the end of it.
08:48So the fact that they got Danny Dimes on a one-year deal, they're still the third favorite,
08:53right, to win the AFC South behind Houston and Jacksonville, I believe.
08:59At least I saw that on FanDuel.
09:01I think they were about three to one.
09:03They also have the ninth best odds of reaching the playoffs among the AFC team.
09:10So does this help or hurt that cause?
09:13I think it's a lateral move.
09:14Whether Richardson comes with his own question marks, Danny Dimes comes with his, either
09:20way, I don't see the market moving a lot one way or the other because of this decision.
09:26Yeah.
09:26And also this decision too, doesn't seem to be in the short term, which I agree with,
09:29which we're going to get to right now.
09:30Adam Schefter put out a tweet yesterday, basically saying that Daniel Jones is the starting quarterback.
09:34Then he quote tweeted that with what Shane Steichen said.
09:37And what Shane Steichen said was this.
09:39He's not planning for this to be a short-term arrangement for Daniel Jones.
09:42Quote, he's the starting quarterback for a reason.
09:44I don't want to have a short leash on that.
09:47Understand this.
09:49We understand Daniel Jones is probably going to be on a short leash, but you can't tell
09:52Daniel Jones and the public he's on a short leash.
09:55I mean, tell like Joe Ranieri and myself, like, hey, you better have the best five minutes
09:58of your life right on the network.
09:59We'll blast it out.
10:00But don't base it on just that five minutes and say, if you don't, we have 16 hosts that
10:04are coming behind you.
10:05Hey, we love you, kid.
10:07See you here for the next 10 years.
10:09Now that's up to you if you stay there as a starting quarterback for 10 years.
10:12But I would have actually got a kick out of Shane Steichen goes, man, I don't like either
10:16one of these quarterbacks.
10:17Daniel Jones is going to play.
10:18We might be series to series right now.
10:20You can't tell your starting quarterback, your football team, your fan base, and your
10:23ownership group.
10:24That's the case here.
10:25So of course, he's going to say, yes, Daniel Jones is a starter.
10:28I expect him to start the whole season.
10:30That's the way you have to play it.
10:31Otherwise, you'd scramble the brains of both your quarterbacks.
10:34Yeah, and again, this is all dependent upon, and I think a big reason why Danny Dimes was
10:42named for Steichen has to do with the fact of, listen, don't turn the ball over, right?
10:49Don't, I don't think Shane Steichen is going to ask Danny Dimes to do a whole lot of anything,
10:54right?
10:54Except, Donnie, don't turn the ball over, right?
10:58That's what you want.
11:00They're going to protect him.
11:01You have a big-time running game, more of a running game than Danny Dimes has ever had
11:05in his entire career with the Giants.
11:07I mean, they have legit offensive linemen.
11:11They've got tight ends.
11:12They've got a, you know, a stud running back.
11:15I think Steichen is not going to ask him to do that much.
11:18Now, Danny Dimes, if he's a turnover machine, then yeah, I think the short hook is coming
11:24here for either guy, by the way.
11:26Can't turn the ball over.
11:28By the way, can we put up that graphic again if we have it back there?
11:31For the AFC South and what the price points are, because I just want to do a quick little
11:34double check on how we can play this out.
11:36You know what's crazy with this, Joe?
11:38I mean, I got to be honest.
11:40The Texans at plus 115 does make sense.
11:42Very good defense, talent on offense, CJ Stroud.
11:45I do think they are the best team in that conference.
11:48But the Jaguars and the Colts are side-by-side at plus three to one.
11:53You're telling me that the Jacksonville Jaguars, whose key is let's unlock Trevor Lawrence,
11:57because we think he's a dominant quarterback, and we got, you know, you know, Liam Cohen
12:00now as the head coach.
12:02How are they a three to one price with Daniel Jones starting?
12:05I, that one, I just can't get over on those price points.
12:07Do you agree with that, that they should be even?
12:09Because I clearly think the Jacksonville Jaguars are better right now than the Indianapolis
12:13Colts.
12:13But if I'm not mistaken, it's always been the Colts that have dominated that series,
12:19right?
12:19In the regular season when they play each other.
12:21Like, the Colts are the ones that have always dominated Jacksonville there.
12:26And really, nobody's expecting anything of Tennessee.
12:29They're right where they, somebody's got to win that division.
12:33And we'll see who it's going to be.
12:35I can't wait to find out.
12:36And by the way, the Colts do have talent.
12:38It's not a quarterback position.
12:40Let's talk more football next.
12:41Matthew Judon on deck, people.
12:44All right, talking some NFL action, going a little division by division, having some
12:47fun, talking about some impactful moves, just like a quarterback position change that we
12:51expected in Indianapolis.
12:52Just didn't know which change it was actually going to be.
12:55And it turns out that Daniel Jones is going to be that starting quarterback.
12:58And I'll tell you, a lot of smoke in South Florida.
13:01When you looked at the Miami Dolphins roster for the past two to three years, the head coach
13:05that was a boy genius that you thought that big things were in store.
13:09Have they played good football times?
13:11Yes.
13:11Has their quarterback gotten injured at the wrong times?
13:14Absolutely.
13:14But there was way too much talent in Miami for the productivity, Joe, that we got out
13:18of their seasons.
13:20Now, we're not saying they're going to be terrible this year, but I'm basically telling you they
13:24might be terrible this year.
13:25Matthew Judon comes down on a one-year deal.
13:27Veteran player that can get after the quarterback.
13:29It's never a bad thing.
13:31But anytime I just hear anything about the Miami Dolphins, even if it's getting a quality player,
13:35I just still get back to the organization and say, this is the worst powder keg in the NFL.
13:40Like, it just doesn't seem like you're going to light the fuse.
13:42And when the gas can explodes, it's 12 wins.
13:47It feels like you light it, the gas can goes up in flames, and you find three wins and everything
13:52blown up in the organization.
13:54But Judon heads down to the Miami Dolphins.
13:55Yeah, and, you know, we've heard a lot this, you know, this preseason about how there is
14:03a lack of leadership in that locker room.
14:06A lot of people point that it starts at the top with their coach, McDaniel, who, you know,
14:13is on a short leash.
14:15And, you know, he comes out and does interviews and says some of the wildest stuff, Donnie.
14:20You know, you're just, you're kind of scratching your head with him.
14:24But if we are already having issues with leadership in the locker room, you know, winning cures
14:30a lot.
14:31But you know what?
14:32Losing just exasperates it and just puts it on a collision course of, all right, halfway
14:37through the season, the Dolphins will be looking for a new head coach here.
14:42But, you know, the Dolphins every year have been about the health of Tua.
14:47So, if Tua and you can protect Tua, which there is a lot of question marks on whether
14:52that offensive line can protect him, if you can protect Tua and he can get in line with
14:58he's got the talent around him, you know, wide receivers, tight end, then Dolphins will
15:03be fine.
15:04The problem is if any of that breaks down, it's going to get ugly quickly, Donnie.
15:11And I mean quickly here in South Florida.
15:14Because, again, you're right.
15:16The leadership in the locker room doesn't feel like we can hold this together.
15:19Like, Tua was told for a long time, we're not going to pay because we think your head
15:21is going to be scrambled eggs in the next two to three years.
15:23That weighs on you there.
15:25Tua also had a head coach when he came in at the NFL and Brian Fleur was like, I didn't
15:28want you here on this football team.
15:29So, right away, it starts like that.
15:31You should have had Justin Herbert at this point.
15:32Again, we can always have those arguments.
15:34But Tyree Kill is one of those dynamic wide receivers in football.
15:37But also, sometimes he gets lost in his own headspace here and basically can tell you after
15:41week number one, I had nine catches, 183 yards and two touchdowns.
15:45I didn't get the football enough.
15:46Maybe it's time for me to move on.
15:47Jalen Wild on the opposite side, absolutely electric.
15:50He can be injured as well and get caught up in that same headspace as Tyree Kill.
15:53It just seems like you have to get off to a good start, which is why we talked about
15:57like to open the show in the Miami Dolphins.
15:59It was, what happens if they lose to the Colts and things just unravel so quickly?
16:03This is no longer a team that I feel like is on the ascension.
16:05Like, we're just a couple players away from winning it all.
16:08Let's continue to add, it now feels like a team that's on its way down and the coach
16:11can basically read the room saying, I'm only going to be down here in South Florida for
16:15like another six months.
16:16Let's see if we can make the best of it, which usually doesn't work in your direction.
16:19So let's take a look at the odds, Joe, for the AFC East and to win that division.
16:23It's certainly not the Miami Dolphins.
16:24It's the Buffalo Bills at a heavy price and rightfully so at a minus 270.
16:28The Patriots are very interesting.
16:30New head coach added a lot of talent looking for that next step from your young rookie quarterback
16:34into his sophomore season in Drake May.
16:36Then there's the Miami Dolphins and then I guess everybody's running for the hills on
16:40the jets once they saw Justin Fields play.
16:42I'm like, oh, that's our quarterback, but it seems like it's the Bills, the division.
16:46I don't care how much you add to the Miami Dolphins with Matthews.
16:48Judon, not going to make a difference for me, Joe.
16:51Yeah, well, I mean, listen, Judon is 33 coming off of one of the, you know, one of the worst
16:58seasons that he has had.
16:59I think he only had five and a half sacks last year for Atlanta.
17:03He did have that bicep injury back in 2023 with the Patriots.
17:09So it wasn't a great year.
17:11It could be age, you know, listen, at 33 years old, you're not going to be a four down guy
17:16here, but he brings veteran leadership into that locker room, which is never a bad thing.
17:23And he's a rotational guy that can listen.
17:26You don't know what Chubb is going to do.
17:28And you had mentioned, you never know whether or not he's going to be on the field or not
17:32on the field.
17:33Phillips has been injured.
17:34They got the kid, John Robinson, the rookie.
17:37They'll rotate him in.
17:39I don't hate the move, but it's not moving the needle for me because the Dolphins success
17:45from a betting perspective has everything to do with that offensive line and protecting
17:50Tua.
17:50If you do, the Dolphins are going to surprise a lot of people.
17:54Very few teams, Joe, enter a season and you say at the quarterback position, like, yes,
17:58you want to keep them upright, which is always standard procedure.
18:00The offensive line, particularly the tackle situation, not that good in Miami, but this
18:04isn't your quarterback.
18:05You say, okay, don't hit him in the leg, in the ribs, you know, in the arm because quarterbacks
18:10get injured that way all the time.
18:11We're right up to a tag of hello and getting pushed down and banging his head on the turf
18:15and not playing football again.
18:17That's why sometimes it's so hard to get behind football because in a perfect world,
18:20like, hey, Tua never gets injured and it's a fun offense and McDaniel can tie it up and
18:24Tyree can go for 2000 yards.
18:26Like he stated, he wanted to do the past couple of years, but also at any given moment where like
18:30week three, you're going to like, you know, Skylar Thompson, boom, see you season over
18:34at that point.
18:35We'll find out shortly, but the bills certainly look like the class of the AFC East.
18:39Let's get to some other injury news, which came up from a preseason game over the weekend.
18:43How about head coach Todd Ball saying that Jalen McMillan suffered a severely strained
18:46neck and will miss time to start the season.
18:49McMillan is currently in a neck brace while they did draft a Buka in the draft, but this was
18:53one of those where it's like, you know what?
18:54Young kid coming into his own, playing good football here.
18:57Take that next step.
18:58He's down for at least half of the year.
19:00It looks like.
19:02Yeah.
19:02And that's unfortunate, right?
19:04Cause you still got it.
19:05You got now Evans, who's what one year older here, right?
19:09No spring chicken.
19:10And they will have a Godwin back after the injury.
19:14It looks like at some point.
19:16So, but this kid was explosive.
19:18This kid was very good for them and that stinks.
19:22That's not something that Tampa Bay was thinking might be a possibility.
19:27It just means they're going to have some other guys.
19:29They got to step up and, and, and take over here.
19:33They have the talent again, but you know, it's all about, you know, who they are under center
19:39and whether or not he can keep the trajectory going.
19:42Yeah.
19:43Let's take a look here at the odds in the NFC South, because again, McMillan being down doesn't
19:46really change all that much.
19:48You still have a solid wide receiving core drafted a really talented player from Ohio
19:52state.
19:52Godwin always fighting injuries, but coming back, Mike Evans on the outside, old, reliable
19:57for a thousand yards.
19:58And you actually have a very competent running game with some explosive players in that back
20:03field.
20:04Now talking about the Bucky Irving, Baker Mayfield looking to take the next step, a decent offensive
20:08line in the defense.
20:09That's always good.
20:09Todd Bowles, one of the best defensive coordinators in football.
20:12Say what you want about some of the head coaching decisions that he makes on a game day
20:15basis, but you know that defense is going to bring pressure and they're going to be
20:17pretty sound.
20:18They're the favorites to win that division, but it is a plus 100 price.
20:21The Falcons at a plus 210, the Panthers at plus 410, and then the Saints at a 13 to
20:26one.
20:26I still think Tampa is the best team in this division.
20:29And if you just keep on rewinding back the years, like Tampa seems like they always win
20:32this division until somebody knocks them off.
20:34I don't think that, you know, I'm going to go against Tampa.
20:36I will take the plus 100 here and say they're the best team in the division, Joe.
20:39Yeah, I mean, they've had to, it's, it stinks not having McMillan.
20:45Another weapon would be great.
20:46But again, on the defensive side of the ball, that was a concentration because they had gotten
20:52a little bit older over the years.
20:54They kind of had to, they kind of had to restock and reshuffle here a little bit on the defensive
21:00line and get some younger linebackers in there.
21:03But I'm with you.
21:04I'm a Todd Bowles guy.
21:06I think from a defensive perspective, he has done so much with less than most coaches
21:12can.
21:13I think the offense can carry this team for a while until they can get some sort of identity
21:17here on the defense.
21:19I trust Todd Bowles.
21:20I don't trust the Atlanta defense in any way, shape or form.
21:24Yeah, they drafted some pass rushers here.
21:26That was their big issue.
21:27We'll see if they can turn around.
21:28But again, if Michael Penix Jr. doesn't have a good season, Raheem Morris is probably out in
21:32Atlanta as well.
21:33On top of that.
21:34So you're hired to be fired.
21:35We understand that in the NFL.
21:36But other quick news here, Aaron Rodgers of the Pittsburgh Steelers, still sounds funny
21:40saying that, not going to play in the final preseason game, which means no snaps in the
21:45preseason for the aging veteran.
21:46Does he need him?
21:47Probably not.
21:48Would it be good just to get a dress rehearsal?
21:49Yes.
21:50But maybe they figure they're playing the Jets week number one.
21:53And that's like a dress rehearsal anyway, with an easy victory walkover.
21:56Justin Fields and Joe Ranieri's New York Jets.
22:00Hey, now, college football quarterbacks want to make some money.
22:04How do you do that, Joe Ranieri?
22:05It's simple.
22:05Go out there, play good football, get drafted high, make a lot of money.
22:09And maybe you can go on to be a superstar quarterback like, let's just say, Joe Montana or a Jalen
22:15Hurts, who's a Super Bowl MVP, or you can get drafted high and be Anthony Richardson.
22:19He's like, hey, you know what?
22:19I might be out of football.
22:20I'm 25 years old.
22:21But at least Anthony Richardson's catching that first round paycheck.
22:25When we look next year, Joe, and it is way too early to do that because the expectations
22:29were beginning of the season last year.
22:32Shador's that number one quarterback.
22:33He's definitely going top five, top 10, top 15, first round, second round, third round.
22:41See where I'm going with this?
22:42A lot can change from the opening week of the college football season, right through
22:46the combine, and right through to draft night.
22:48And also, when you get information like Arch Manning, he's not coming out.
22:53Can't bet him now.
22:54Take him off the board.
22:55He's not even there.
22:55So, hey, Grandpa, quiet down over there.
22:59It's a really good chance I might come out if I play well.
23:01He moves up the board.
23:02So, talk to me about how we get to the evolution, Joe, of, boy, this quarterback looks really
23:06good.
23:06And by the end of the season, it's like, I don't think he's that good.
23:09Yeah, no.
23:10Well, and a lot of that has to do with exposure and obviously how good the team is.
23:17Those things go hand in hand.
23:19Unless you have some sort of crazy once-in-a-generation two-way player, Donnie, that is playing on a not
23:28great football team, but has another player on his team where the media and everybody
23:33are just following and doing everything in the world possible to promote.
23:38And just like that, you've got yourself a Heisman winner.
23:40But it's amazing to me all the talk about Arch Manning.
23:44He's not the favorite to win it this year.
23:46But yet, he is in a position in the team that a lot of people, the number one team right now,
23:52preseason, could very well be the number one team when it's all said and done.
23:56How does a guy like that, if he goes from the beginning of the season and ends the season,
24:02how is that not your favorite?
24:04How's he not the Heisman winner in some way, shape, or form there?
24:08Yeah, we look at the quarterback names that are on the list because typically you start
24:11to zero in and be like, hey, we're going to tank for Trevor or Andrew Luck back in the
24:15day.
24:15We see quarterbacks, even Caleb Williams for that matter of how much excitement there
24:18was for him being a college quarterback and who's going to be bad to get that player.
24:22It seems like it's Arch Manning right now, but also, it's the hype around Arch Manning
24:27because you see Caleb Williams come a mile away.
24:29Like, dude, we see him play a lot of football.
24:30He's electric, you know, Heisman Trophy chances and all this, you know, good stuff.
24:33Same thing with Trevor Lawrence.
24:34Boy, he's a freshman.
24:35The dude's out here, you know, winning national championships.
24:37Like, oh my goodness, I can't wait till we get him into our facility.
24:40But yet, we see Arch Manning's like, yeah, his uncles are cool.
24:44His dad or his grandfather played in the NFL and he can't beat out, you know, Quinn Ewers
24:49and now Texas says, well, he's going to play this year and we don't know how good he's
24:53going to be.
24:53So, we might need his senior year at this point.
24:55See where I'm going with this?
24:55Where it's like, yes, everybody wants a tank for Arch because the name itself, because
24:58if you did get Peyton Manning, that worked out pretty well for the Indianapolis Colts.
25:02If you did end up San Diego trading, you know, Eli Manning to New York, it worked out really
25:08well.
25:09Well, technically also for San Diego back in the day, because they did get, you know,
25:12Philip Rivers in that deal.
25:13And then Eli goes over and wins a couple of Super Bowls with the Giants.
25:16So, that hype is coming through, but we haven't seen it, Joe.
25:19Is there a chance?
25:20And look, if the hype is real, it's going to work.
25:23But not like, hey, wait a second.
25:25He didn't play all that well against Ohio State.
25:27By the end of September, we're having conversations like, because you know, Texas running five-star
25:31quarterbacks right behind him.
25:32Maybe Arch isn't the guy.
25:33Or is this, we told his family he's going to start no matter what.
25:36We'll work through this.
25:37It's funny because the hype is real, but yet the betting market is telling you, nah, pump
25:44the brakes here.
25:45He's like the third favorite to be the best college football player this season, which
25:50is inch of the fourth, actually, there.
25:53So, that is a very interesting dynamic where the media and the hype surrounding him in Texas
26:00is huge, but the market's like, yeah, they may be good, but let's not anoint him the best
26:07player just yet.
26:09My question is, Donnie, is there value backing it now?
26:12Does that number get worse?
26:14Or does that number get better the more that, you know, Texas wins that first game and he
26:20puts up some numbers against Ohio State at the shoe?
26:23So, what's his number going to at that point?
26:26I do think it gets better.
26:28And the reason behind it is I think a lot of people are apprehensive, Joe, saying, like,
26:30yes, I'm going to bet this guy right now because, correct me if I'm wrong, you walk into a
26:34sports book today, you put $100 on Arch Manning and he doesn't actually come out in the draft,
26:40you don't get your money back.
26:42It's like, oh, well, he didn't come out.
26:43Because that's what you're betting on right now.
26:44You figure if he has a good season, the intangibles are there that are going to push him way up
26:49the board in the NFL draft.
26:50Even if you think he's the third or fourth guy, he might go number one overall.
26:54But that's why I think it's so low.
26:55If he plays well, and just the fact that he said, I haven't made up my mind because
26:59he would have just backed up his grandfather.
27:01Yeah, what he's saying is right.
27:02My plan is to stay all four years.
27:04He didn't say that.
27:05What he basically told him, he's like, I'm not going to embarrass my grandfather here,
27:08but he has no idea what's going through my mind right now.
27:11Oh, yeah.
27:12That's correct.
27:12That's what the topics are flowing here.
27:14And hour number two is coming up next with four hot topics, and we're going to reset the
27:19market.
27:19Let's do it.
27:20That's what we do in the early line.
