00:00After traveling to 137 countries in the past eight years of my life, I can tell
00:07you that being black and traveling the world is not what you think and it's not
00:11what you've heard. Some of what I experienced I think is gonna shock you.
00:15I moved to China when I was 21 off of a whim, never having left the United
00:20States of America before. Before I left to China, everyone told me what I was
00:24going to experience. People told me I was going to be treated racist, they told me
00:28that I was going to be spit on and laughed at and not allowed in
00:32restaurants and racially profiled and that I was going to be have such a bad
00:37experience that I was going to quit. They told me that it was going to be
00:40dangerous and everything in between above and below and when I told people that I
00:45wanted to go on a mission of visiting every country in the world and not only
00:50be on a mission to visit every country in the world but be on a mission to visit
00:53every country in the world so low you don't even want to know what people told
00:57me. They told me it'd be impossible, that I'd be killed, I would be too racially
01:03profiled, that it just wouldn't be possible. 137 countries later I'm here
01:10looking at you telling you it's not what you think. Traveling is not what you think
01:15and not what you've heard. The truth is a lot more complex. I've had moments where I
01:21felt like a celebrity. I felt like whoa all the attention is on me, oh my goodness,
01:27people are being so kind and I've had quite the opposite. I've had moments where
01:32I'm feeling like whoa there is not a single person that I can relate to as far as
01:37my eyes can see. Let's start from when I moved to China at 21 years old. I was 21, I was a fresh
01:45college dropout and I had moved to China so that I could live with my sister who
01:49was already living there. I knew nothing about the world. I had never left the
01:53United States of America before. I had never been even outside of the East Coast
01:58of America where I'm from but I jumped and moved to China out of nowhere and I
02:05had no idea what to expect. I was in 2017 so at the time there weren't a lot of
02:12foreigners in China especially that looked like me. Now there are but back in
02:182017 there weren't a whole lot of foreigners just up and moving to China
02:23like me and my sister did. So of course when I got there yes people did stare at
02:28me. Yes there was a lot of looks, there was a lot of what? There was a lot of
02:34picture-taking and there was a lot of staring which caught me off guard. I was
02:38not used to it and yes it did bother me at first. Once I stayed in China for a
02:43while and I got to know the heart of the country and I enrolled in school to learn
02:48Chinese and I started speaking Chinese I realized that Chinese people were so
02:52kind. Very curious but very kind. They weren't mean to me, they weren't telling
02:58me to leave their country, they weren't telling me that I didn't belong there,
03:02they were just extremely curious and I mean extremely curious. Yes sometimes when I
03:08had a 500 people taking pictures of me in one day it did rub me the wrong way but
03:14this is before I learned the language, after I learned the language. When I
03:19learned to speak Mandarin and I would talk to everybody, I would talk to people on
03:23the train, I would talk to the lady who was you know getting my food, I would talk
03:28to the lady I would buy dumplings from every single day, I would talk to the
03:30people I would buy breakfast from from every day on the way to school and I
03:34started engaging and learning the language, everyone was super kind to me.
03:38Everyone! Nobody was outright racist, nobody was outright you this, get out of my
03:45country, you're I have these preconceived notions about you. They didn't have any
03:49preconceived notions. All they knew was I've never seen anybody who looks like
03:53this girl. Where is she from and what is she doing here? But like I said when I
03:59learned the language everything changed that I've been to 137 countries. I've
04:04been all the way over the Middle East, I went to Afghanistan all the way all by
04:08myself. I have met up and ate with the Taliban in Afghanistan which I solo
04:14traveled that country. I've been in Dubai, I have been and living part of my life in
04:22Japan, France, Italy and right now I'm in Europe and the reason I'm making this
04:26video is because I'm getting so many comments like, are the Europeans racist?
04:30Are the Europeans racist? Are the Europeans racist? And it's mind-boggling
04:34because the answer really is no. But I will not say that I don't, sometimes I
04:40don't get unfair treatment. Let me explain. Although I don't get treated badly
04:45because I'm black anywhere, nobody treats me badly because I am black. But
04:51sometimes, I will be honest, I do get treated differently because I am a female who
04:56was traveling alone. I can't tell you how often I get a comment, where's your
05:01husband? Where's your husband? Where's your family? Why aren't you married? Where's
05:05your husband? As if I can't, as if women can't be their own humans in society. It's
05:11almost like I get this comment especially in the Middle East and I got this
05:15comment a lot when I was in Africa traveling the African countries. It would
05:21be like, where's your husband? Where's your husband? Where is your family? Where is your
05:28mother? Where is your father? And I would be like, I'm solo traveling. And they'd be
05:32like, okay, who's with you? I'm solo traveling. And they would almost look at me
05:36like, what? So that is annoying sometimes. Or when I would sit down at a restaurant
05:43and they'd say, oh, where's your husband? Or where's your boyfriend? Or where's your
05:45family? And I would say, I'm solo traveling. Sometimes I get to look like, what? And I
05:52can't leave this out. The sexual harassment. I will say this though. And I've said
05:57this many times before. I was treated way differently when I would dress a lot
06:01more explicitly. I used to dress a lot differently than I dress now. I used to
06:07show a lot of skin. And I used to wear things that I can't even wrap my mind
06:13around wearing. Super tight clothes. And I'm going to be very honest. I am a curvy
06:18woman. And when I'm wearing super tight clothes and everything showing, of course,
06:27of course, it's expected. It shouldn't be, but it was expected. Oh, and I would get
06:34extremely inappropriate attention throughout many countries that I've traveled. But let
06:40me be very clear here. When I changed the way I dressed and I started dressing a
06:45little bit more classy, a little bit more stiffest, I don't just leave the house
06:49looking like I'm wearing my butt cheeks and everything is all tight in my
06:53everything showing for the whole world to see. I get treated way differently. When I
06:59have on a nice clean cut, nice put together outfit, I'm telling you, I get respect no
07:04matter where I am. Let me know your experiences. I'm not trying to take away if
07:08anyone ever has had a racist experience. I have had friends who have told me, for
07:13example, I've had some of my friends from China tell me that they were treated
07:17racist when they would visit places like Italy or Spain or France, which I'm not
07:22trying to take that experience away from them and say, oh, it didn't happen or
07:26anything. I'm just telling you that for the most part, these countries are so
07:31diverse that there's no room for racism. What do I mean by that? Italy, if you come
07:37here, I'm in Italy right now, or if you go to France or if you go to Spain or you go to
07:42the UK or you go to Norway or you go to Denmark, I'm telling you the majority of the
07:49people on the streets in the cities, they're foreigners. They're foreigners. So really
07:56racism, when I hear that question, MJ, is it racist in Italy? MJ, is it racist in Spain?
08:03MJ, are they racist? It really doesn't make any sense because when I'm telling you, when
08:08I'm out and about, most people are foreigners. Most people are from different
08:14countries, the population in all of these nations. So my point in saying that is who
08:20is racist and how would they be racist? Being that most of these European countries
08:25are so diverse. I don't stick out at all. At all. I don't stick out in France or Spain
08:35or Netherlands. There's literally tons of people who look like me. Tons. I was just, I just came
08:41from a country, a beautiful country, San Marino. There was a huge Ethiopian population. People
08:47were speaking, Ethiopians were coming up to me, assuming that I was Ethiopian speaking to
08:51me and I'm hurt, which I don't know how to speak. I'm because I'm not Ethiopian, but there were so
08:56many Ethiopians when I was just in this tiny country, San Marino, just two days ago. Did you
09:01notice the hair is herring? Brief intermission. The hair is herring. Did you guys know that I just
09:05came out with my own hair care line? Angel hair by MaryJane.com. Yes, I have two products so far
09:13and I love them so much. So I have to tell you guys about them. Okay. We have got, I've been
09:17using this one is a little bit used, but we have two products on angel hair right now. And I need
09:24you guys to know about them. This is my angel hair, vanilla growth oil. You guys, this is the best
09:31vanilla growth. This is the best, in my opinion, hair growth oil, hair oil on the, on the market
09:37right now. Okay. It's got coconut oil, castor oil, rosemary oil, boab oil, boab, boab oil. I learned
09:45about when I was in Namibia. Makes your hair so soft. It's got clove, which helps your hair grow.
09:50It's got rosemary that helps your hair grow. It's got coconut. It's got vanilla bean that makes your
09:54hair. Vanilla bean makes your hair iridescent because it's packed with vitamin B12. B12 is that
10:01thing your hair needs to be shiny and vibrant. So this is a hair growth oil and a hair length oil.
10:07You put it on your head and on your ends. I use it for shine on the top of my hair when I do my little
10:12bun, ponytails. I use it on my ends and on my scalp at night. It's amazing. You can be black or white
10:18or Asian. This hair oil is good for everybody. It's got olive oil, you guys. Olive oil is amazing for
10:24strengthening your hair strands. I think this is the best hair oil on the market. The vanilla growth oil
10:29and it smells like vanilla. You guys, this smells insane because it's got vanilla bean in it. On my
10:34website, I'll link it in the description box of this video. I would love if you guys got it. I'm
10:40waiting. We just launched angel hair. Has it been two weeks? It's been two weeks. And I'm like
10:45salivating. I'm like waiting for reviews. I'm like waiting. I need reviews. So, uh, if you get it,
10:51I would love if you came back to me and told me what you think. Um, please do because I know you're
10:57going to love it. I'll put it down below in the link, uh, in the description box, angel hair by
11:02maryjane.com. And you guys know the infamous, infamous rice water that I've been swearing by and loving for the
11:09past two years. I learned how to make this when I was in China. I lived literally with a long hair
11:14tribe, read Yao women for three months. They taught me everything about rice water. I've been using it
11:19ever since. It makes your hair so soft and silky. I'm visiting every single country in the world.
11:24Like we mentioned in this video, there are 195 countries in the world. I've been to 137.
11:31Can you please make sure you are subscribed? Because has anyone seen your girl? Like has anyone
11:38seen your girl knocking down this challenge? Like, I don't know. Like, I'm like, do you guys see me?
11:43Like I'm trying so hard. It's taking everything out of me. And I just, I don't know. Like,
11:48I just want to let you guys know that your girl is doing this. I just visited my 137th country two
11:55days ago, San Marino. Check out the video if you haven't. And everyone wants to know, when are you
12:00going back to Africa? When are you? Yes, I am going back to Africa. Of course I am. I have an entire
12:07continent to finish, which is Africa. I'm finishing Europe right now, but I'll be back in Africa
12:12literally very soon. I won't give you a date. I won't give you a date because there has been so
12:18many changes recently, but I can tell you very, very, very soon, very soon. I'll be back in Africa.
12:26I need to finish the entire continent. So don't worry. I will be back very soon. Yes,
12:31we are going to finish Africa. Will I finish Africa this year? Probably not, but we're going
12:37to get a good portion of Africa done this year. When will I be finished this mission of visiting
12:44every country in the world? I think it's going to take me one year, one good year. And I'm going
12:48to finish this mission. You don't be afraid to travel the world because your skin color,
12:52don't do it because nobody else is doing that. And well, actually a lot of people are,
12:58and it's sad. That's why I made this video. So I'm going to wrap this video up here. That's
13:01what I wanted to say. And please comment in this video. Let me know, have you traveled and
13:07were people nice to you? Were you at if you traveled somewhere where people didn't look
13:11like you? I need to know. Drop in the comments. Did you go somewhere? And did you have a bad
13:15experience? Don't be afraid. Love you guys. I'll see you guys tomorrow.
13:22Bye.
