Women’s hospital maternity services upgraded by CQC

00:00Maternity services at Liverpool's Specialist Women's Hospital have been upgraded after a visit from health officials.

00:07Run by the NHS Foundation Trust, which bears the same name, Liverpool Women's Hospital is one of two Specialist Trusts in the UK

00:13and the largest women's hospital in Europe.

00:16It provides care for a significant number of people with high levels of complexity and clinical risk,

00:22as well as serving a population with significant deprivation.

00:24The Care Quality Commission inspected this service to March and May in part to follow up on whistleblowing concerns

00:32relating to the culture and leadership at the service.

00:35The concerns were not substantiated during the inspection.

00:38It was also to follow up on breaches of regulation which were found at the previous inspection last January.

00:45These were in relation to safe care and treatment, good management and staffing.

00:50Following this inspection, the Trust is no longer in breach of these regulations.

00:53The CQC has also upgraded the rating for how well-led the service is from requires improvement to good.

01:01Safe has gone up from inadequate to good.

01:03Responsive has declined from outstanding to good.

01:05And effective and caring have been re-rated as good.

01:09Liverpool Women's Hospital remains rated as good.

01:11And the Trust overall rating remains unchanged and is rated as required improvement.

01:16The reports said leaders and staff acted on earlier feedback, improving safety, leadership and staffing levels,

01:21with women reporting they're now treated with compassion and kindness.

01:26A recent survey backs that up.

01:2894% of women said they were treated with respect and dignity.

01:33Inspectors also found better systems for spotting and responding to deteriorating health,

01:39with staff carrying out quicker observations to keep patients safe.
