00:01Mental health patients are being put at risk because of staff shortages and rising demand,
00:06according to a survey by the Royal College of Nursing.
00:09Only one in five specialist nurses said their workload was manageable,
00:14with many reporting growing caseloads and less time for care.
00:18Half of those questions said patients frequently come to harm,
00:22including deterioration, relapse or self-harm.
00:25The union says administrative pressures are also taking clinicians away from patients.
00:31The government has said that staffing numbers are rising and points to record investment in services.
00:37Yet nurses continue to warn that the system is struggling to keep pace with the country's demand.
