00:00A temporary palliative care ward will open at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital following the closure of a city hospice unit.
00:09Marie Curie North West says 15 staff will support inpatient care until 31 October.
00:15The move follows the closure of the charity's Walton inpatient unit after funding could not be secured.
00:21The hospice, based on Speak Road, housed a 26-bed inpatient unit,
00:25where people with terminal illnesses were supported and cared for in their final weeks and days,
00:31as well as community services and day services.
00:34The integrated care board is reviewing future services for Liverpool residents after the temporary arrangement ends later this year.
