AccuWeather long-range expert Joe Lundberg takes a look at what the weather will be like around the country next week.
Transcript
00:00All right, to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina we go.
00:02It's a good shot to look at this time of year, and wowsers.
00:06This will be a very good shot a week from now to see how rough that surf is along the eastern seaboard as we continue to track air in here.
00:16All right, joining me right now is AccuWeather, long-range expert, meteorologist Joe Lumberg.
00:21Joe, let's take a look at what we were talking about last week, although yours truly was at the Jersey Shore.
00:28Sure, but you were starting to be a little worried about the tropics.
00:33I guess I was.
00:35For really the rest of the month of August, we think there could be as many as three to perhaps five named storms in the Atlantic Basin.
00:42We think at least one of them is going to be a hurricane, and there is a potential for U.S. impacts out of this.
00:47So that's what we're looking at in the tropics for the next several weeks.
00:51Well, there we go. We're about ready to get that hurricane here, Joe, Aaron.
00:57And again, the pattern, if you know the pattern, you know what the outcome of the weather is going to be.
01:03And that's what you and the long-range team spend a lot of time looking at.
01:07Yeah, I mean, it looks like we're about to get that hurricane maybe later today in terms of Aaron and the potential U.S. impacts.
01:14Maybe it doesn't make a direct landfall, but I think the eastern seaboard beaches are really going to be impacted by this system.
01:20Meanwhile, what about next week?
01:22There are going to be some cool shots across the Great Lakes and northeast.
01:25Rounds of thunderstorms will develop in the Midwest, in Ohio Valley early, but then they switch to the south and southeast later in the week.
01:32And it's going to be toasty in the Rockies and the southwest with limited thunderstorm activity.
01:36Here's the reason why. Big area of high pressure.
01:38This is going to be a heat dome next week.
01:40Jet streams are going to be forced way to the north, so you're going to see a lot of hot weather.
01:44Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Rapid City, and Bismarck.
01:47Meanwhile, over the top of that, you're going to see this trough of the jet stream.
01:50And here, you know, this trough means the shower and thunderstorm activity here early in the week switches south.
01:56And you better cash in on the rain across parts of the Midwest and northeast because after that, I think you're going to go into a dry pattern
02:02as these cool air masses come in one after another for the rest of the month.
02:07Joe, you're tracking three fronts next week, right?
02:10I am. The first one you saw, Ari, just a moment ago talking about coming down southward.
02:15And as that comes on through, you're going to see big relief from the heat and humidity across much of the northeast down into the mid-Atlantic.
02:21But Aaron's out in the Atlantic, so that's going to stall how far south that one gets.
02:25Second one comes through with limited moisture.
02:27I don't think you get much of anything across upstate in New York and New England.
02:31Third one comes through late in the week, and that one's another big one.
02:34And I think that means temperatures are going to be generally in the 70s and 60s for several days from probably about the 23rd of August to the 27th.
02:44Nighttime lows are going to be in the 40s and 50s.
02:46It's a dry air mass, a refreshing change, and even a little hint of fall in the atmosphere.
02:51The Crystal Ball meteorologist Joe Lumberg.
02:54AccuWeather Early continues after this.
