00:00Tommy, 2-1 defeat against Brighton under-21s in a competitive National League Cup game,

00:06good technical game, thoughts on that?

00:09In a nutshell, you've just hit it in the head there. I thought it was a really good competitive game,

00:13won too much physicality in it but there was plenty of athleticism and technical ability on

00:17show and I thought for the second season they've come here and we've gifted them a game so

00:24I don't know, maybe they're a bogey team, I don't know but you've got to give them credit, they

00:27didn't react negatively when we looked like we were taking the game away from them with a really

00:32good goal but we have helped them in the error that we made leading up to their first goal and then

00:39a challenge we didn't win a long way from our goal but it's put them through with quite an easy second

00:44goal so that's the disappointment, the two goals we've conceded but there's a lot of positives,

00:48a lot of young lads got a lot of minutes against a very good side. We said before this competition

00:54started the fact we're playing them now that would be as strong as they'll be in this competition

00:58because a lot of them lads will definitely go out to football league clubs and hold their own

01:03by the way because there's a lot of good footballers there but a lot of our lads who haven't had that

01:07many minutes lately got some good game time and of course Josh Barrett's got another hour under his belt

01:14as is Tristan so yeah there's a lot of positives and hopefully touch wood we haven't picked up anything

01:18further in terms of injury because that's my biggest concern we have to wrap a few of the lads

01:23up in cotton wool at this moment in time because our numbers are thin but that's part of my job.

01:30Yeah I mean obviously it's well known as quite a lengthy injury list at the moment isn't there but

01:33sort of good minutes sort of people need them tonight and obviously anyone potentially could

01:38be back for Boston on Saturday or is that a bit soon? It's a bit soon for me to know I mean that today is

01:46one or two of them tonight are showing me that they're capable of playing a part on Saturday but

01:51whether their bodies turn around and they can go again on Thursday I don't know because not a lot

01:55of them lads other than Josh Barrett and Tristan have played a lot of 90 minutes say the last season

02:00all this they're young lads they're what I would have called players to come and supplement the team

02:04rather than be the team but this was the right competition to do that and I thought they did really

02:09really well for that 70-75 minutes I was just disappointed and I don't like using that word but I was

02:15disappointed with the way we reacted as a group to a mistake that one of our lads made you know

02:20the analogy of the golfer missing the putt from 18 foot you don't then go onto the next tee and drive

02:25it out of bounds you've got to make sure that you don't make a second mistake and we did and like

02:30I said I'd say it we were as young as them probably even younger some in most places and I thought we'd give

02:38them a really good game and I'm sure we've got more positives out of it than I can think of at the moment but

02:43it'll probably take a good night's kick for me uh to realise yeah I mean as you say the mistake

02:48for you because I mean that can happen that can happen in all sport at any level but it's the fact

02:52that the winner's sort of I guess three minutes later isn't it I guess that's something you sort of

02:55yeah because I didn't I did well I didn't see the first one coming because it had nothing to do with

02:58them we put in my own goal the second one come because I don't know exactly who it was but I know we

03:04lost the challenge that I don't want us losing right in front of me um which left the ball between

03:09that position and the goal with them running at the ball with the ball and that there's certain

03:16things as a footballer you've got to do and one of them has not let that happen um so that'll be

03:21looked at and talked about over the next couple of days but we'll learn from it look like I said

03:27the group the group that was put out today less Josh Barrett and Tristan uh and Cameron that the vast

03:32majority of them are young lads and the vast majority of them should go home tonight and be really happy what the

03:39vast majority of what they've done yeah and um Haddie um off the bench obviously came back from a sort

03:44of precautionary injury but off the bench and really took the goal really well great ball from James

03:48Claridge yeah and pretty sharp yeah to be fair was a great ball but great run from Haddie he's

03:53listen he's been everybody knows he's been the top scorer in pre-season but he's had a little issue

03:58where we've just had to hold him back from last weekend um but he wanted to be involved tonight so we

04:03got him on for half an hour to manage to get another goal i hope he stays fit because i know a lot of people

04:08thought it was a false dawn last season but the lad he had some horrendous injuries last year

04:13and he had a horrendous injury the year before that we just we want to keep him healthy we want

04:17to keep him fit and if we do that i think he'll be a handful in the national league i think he'll

04:20score goals so i think he's powerful he's strong he's quick he's brave um and one thing he does is

04:26he puts the ball in the goal so yeah it'll be a great addition to the group that we took to

04:30altering him with a bit of luck we'll have one or two others back if not for this Saturday certainly by

04:35next wednesday or next or the other monday after that and then boston on saturday being that being

04:40the first home league game of the season that's always a sort of you know a good occasion those

04:44um you know obviously get this sort of home league league run off to a good start yeah i mean well

04:50yeah we we can't we can't get it off to a start until we have the game so a lot of people don't class

04:55this competition as in their eyes as fans is a competition they want to be involved in then that's

05:00fair enough it's their decision um but yeah we want you know we want to we want to have that thing

05:06at home where it's difficult for teams to come here and play against us i've said this all time

05:11i've been at the football club i back my teams to score goals but we've got to be better at keeping

05:15them from going in our own goal it's not the goalies and just the defenders as a team and that's

05:19what we're working on and that's what i'm sure we get better at
