00:00Tommy, 4-1 defeat against Yeovil tonight. Thoughts on how that played out?
00:07Well, it didn't play out the way we wanted it. We opened the game really well, I thought.
00:13More on the front foot, we had three or four really good entrances into that box.
00:17Never managed to get the ball in a position having got into the final third for that final action,
00:24whether it's a shot or whatever.
00:27And then, out of nowhere, someone gifts them a goal.
00:30You know, in fairness to watch, he's been really good for us,
00:33but he's turned into somebody who's took the ball off him and we've gone one day down.
00:37And I think it's stunned the kids at the back, which they are,
00:42and I think you all have jumped on it, to be fair.
00:45They jumped all over the fact that we were spooked at the back
00:48and we didn't show anywhere close to the amount of tenacity or resilience
00:54that we did on Saturday against a strong side in Harlepool.
00:59So, listen, there isn't one reason. At the end of the day,
01:03there's three-thirds of the pitch. We weren't good enough in our final third.
01:07I don't think we were good enough in the top third.
01:10But we got through the pitch a lot, all the way through the game.
01:13So, look, it's something that we've got to address and address quickly.
01:17But I always say, you score one goal at home, you should win.
01:21That's what we did on Saturday.
01:22And today, we've gifted them a couple of goals and then, you know,
01:26it's too big of a bridge for us to gap.
01:29And that tenacity was obviously there on Saturday to get the 1-0 win.
01:33So, it is there in the group, isn't it?
01:35Look, I'll never question the lads' effort and I'll never question honesty, all of them.
01:42But some of them are still making their way at this level of the game,
01:47whether they're on loan from pro clubs or they've come to here having been in pro clubs.
01:52But I've just said to them that we have to have a better consistency than that on Saturday
01:58and that on Wednesday.
02:00We need a reaction from them as simple as that.
02:02But at the end of the day, it's one game.
02:04I'm not going to boo one or two negative comments.
02:09I understand it's the nature of the piece.
02:11We've lost a football match, but we've got however many we've got to fix that.
02:17And I've said it for a little while now, but it's starting to really pain me
02:22that we haven't played where we're playing because of what we've got available to us.
02:27And that's going to be the case for a little while longer, yeah,
02:30unless something dramatically changes.
02:31Yeah, injuries in the group, it's sort of been a big reoccurring.
02:35It's killing us.
02:36Listen, I've got nine in the injury room and six of them are defenders,
02:42of which any given three, four or five would be in the team.
02:47So, listen, all managers will tell you the same thing.
02:50They haven't had the best of luck in that respect, but we literally haven't.
02:53Because I'd say three of them minimum, we won't see them before January or maybe even February.
02:58So, it's one of them things.
03:01We've got to deal with that situation however we can.
03:04But like I said, they proved that that very similar group of players went and held on against good pressure from Harlepool on Saturday to win a game.
03:14So, like I said, it was only 13 minutes of madness that we chucked the game away.
03:19And you can't give anybody in this division a three-goal lead.
03:23Had we got one just before the break when we had a really good couple of chances, who knows?
03:27Who knows, who knows, but that's football.
03:29Yeah, it was literally about 13 minutes because the first 10 minutes had been a really bright start.
03:33Yeah, we had. I think we started the game really well.
03:35Archie was unlucky with a really good effort in the first minute as well.
03:38But like I said, we have a route to goal and we know what to get there.
03:42And it goes through, however we go, whether we go beyond or we go through, we did that all night.
03:48People who were here can't argue with me and say we didn't get through the pitch, we didn't pass away anything.
03:54On occasions, we could have gone forward earlier, I felt.
03:57And so, again, when you're being spooked and you're playing at the back of the pitch,
04:02I can understand the nerves or the hesitation to try things when things aren't going well for you.
04:10It's difficult, but you've got to be man enough to accept it.
04:13There's some lads in our team, I feel, get more than the criticism they deserve.
04:22But that's part of football. People have their favourites, that's fine.
04:25But ultimately, we inside the building here know the ones who are more consistent than not.
04:30Yeah, I see you'll stay tight as a group and you obviously know all that, won't you?
04:34Yeah, listen, I've got no issues with that.
04:38They're a great group that's probably too nice, if anything.
04:41But that comes with the age and the pay grade, simple as that.
04:44And that's where we are.
04:46So, you know, I'm very well aware of where we are in that respect.
04:49But look, as much as I didn't do the interview on Saturday,
04:53but as much as Hugo wouldn't have went overboard on Saturday,
04:56I ain't going to go overboard and kill people and throw the baby out with the bathwater.
05:00They're the same lads who put us where we are.
05:03And it's the nature of a young group, isn't it, that you do sometimes get highs and lows
05:07and so you just want that consistency because obviously the highs are there
05:10and it's just obviously trying to get it more consistently, isn't it?
05:12I think you've just hit the nail on the head. I don't even have to answer that.
05:16And thoughts now, obviously tough tonight, but obviously thoughts will naturally turn to Halifax on Saturday.
05:21Yeah, it's this crazy Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday scenario we've got.
05:27So, yeah, we've got a recovery day tomorrow and then we're travelling up to Halifax on Friday morning.
05:33So, yeah, it's a quick turnaround and I've just told you, we've got nine in the injury room.
05:39So, other than Maxwell Mullins and young Joe Lewis, unless anybody's picked up something more tonight,
05:47then that will be the group of players that will be going to Halifax.
