00:00This has been a long and complex investigation and I'm grateful for the sentence that's been
00:08given to Amy Pugh today. Amy and Kyle were a married couple who at the time of his death
00:14had separated and Kyle was in a new relationship. We knew the pair had a volatile relationship
00:21however Kyle should not have died at the hands of the woman he once loved.
00:26On the night in question our investigation shows that following an argument that's turned into a
00:34physical altercation Amy got Kyle into some form of headlock or compression to the neck
00:40that caused him to fall unconscious. Realising Kyle was unresponsive Amy made a decision not to call
00:48for help immediately and delayed calling the emergency services for around 30 minutes while
00:55she made calls including video calls to her father. We will never know why Amy decided to act in this
01:03way as she has shown no remorse throughout the investigation or trial. Amy was very much aware
01:10of Kyle's vulnerabilities and mental health history and I believe that she callously used this
01:17to protect herself and try and evade justice. It is unusual to have a female convicted of domestic
01:24murder but I would like to reassure the public that West Mercia Police takes all reports of domestic abuse
01:31seriously and we will investigate to get justice for victims. I would like to remember Kyle who was a well-known
01:38figure within the Telford community through his love of art and emceeing and I hope today's sentence brings
01:46some kind of closure to his family and all those who knew him. I would also like to pay justice to his
01:53family who have been patient and acted with dignity throughout the investigation and trial. While this
01:59won't bring Kyle back I hope today brings the justice and closure that means they can start to begin the next
02:07part of their grief journey. Thank you.
