The father of prison inmate Rajaee Ali, is defending his son against what he called the character assassination of people without voices.

Speaking at a press conference in San Fernando on Monday, Hassan Ali, described his son as charitable and someone who would even help the police.

He says he was not happy to see his son transferred to the Military Base Tetron since the State of Emergency, and called for accountability from the TTPS.

00:11That is not Rajai Ali.
00:14Hassan Ali, father of prisoner Rajai Ali, says there has been an attempt to assassinate the character of his son
00:22by suggesting he is linked to certain criminal plots, knowing he has no voice to defend himself from behind prison walls.
00:30Rajai Ali, arrested and charged in 2015 for the murder of prominent attorney Dana Setahal,
00:36and with being a gang leader, is still awaiting trial,
00:41but was transferred from the maximum security prison in Aruka to the Tetron military base shortly after the SOE was declared on July 18th.
00:49Because there are allegations against you, because you are in remand, they criminalize.
01:02They scandalize and sensationalize.
01:07Is that a crime-solving method?
01:11They expect me, you know, it's a popular thing on social media.
01:16Father and mother, good children, and the good sons, and all that.
01:23Forgetting that we're not perfect, and it is not a perfect society.
01:26He described his son as a dedicated Islamic worker who studied Islam, interacts, and relates with all the youth.
01:34Contrary to belief, Hassan Ali says his son was on the right side of the law.

01:56that we complimented them and helped.

02:11We will give evidence.
02:15Because as an informant,
02:20we help
02:20resolving some of the problems,
02:23the challenges,
02:24they come to us.
02:25I know I'd be bashed for saying that,
02:30but we help.
02:33In standing up for his son,
02:35he says,
02:35with the misconception of radicalism and terrorism,
02:39Muslims are duty-bound now more than ever
02:41to be a good example,
02:43to have the best relations with others,
02:46and to be on their best conduct.
02:48But we have contributions to make too,
02:51to the stability of the society.
02:53No Muslim must believe in Muslim
02:55in his right mind
02:56who would want to assassinate
02:59judges and
03:01people that are supposed to be doing their jobs.
03:06No Muslim in the right mind
03:07wants to destabilize the society.
03:10But then,
03:11there are people
03:12who would want to make reference
03:14to issues in the past
03:17without looking at cause.
03:19During Monday's press conference,
03:21there was a call
03:22to end the state of emergency,
03:24close military detention sites,
03:26and return detainees
03:27to their previous places of holding.
