00:00Welcome back to Newswire here on SportsGrid. Time to go around college football. We'll check in on a quarterback at LSU, also the latest in Alabama, and of course the Oregon Ducks, hoping for another great season. It's time now for the SportsGrid Soundoff.
00:15We'll see you next time.
00:45But here's Brian Kelly with the injury update saying, simply put, it's a lot less serious than it appeared.
00:53Just for the record, he has tendonitis, patella tendonitis. He does not have a torn ACL. We have not amputated his leg. He has a PO, and you know the initials of that, patella tendon.
01:11He was out there today throwing. Tomorrow he'll be back out, most likely in a practice situation. So I thought we'd calm everybody down.
01:22And a lot of that is due to his 2023 Osgood Ladder surgery that he had, where the tendon was irritated back then. So this is just chronic, pate odored a little bit, and we'll calm it down and the world is still around.
01:46Any long-term effects or any concerns?
01:48No, it's tendonitis. Tendinitis is managed every single day around the world for all kinds of different ailments. But no, I mean, he'll be, like I said, just like a bad ankle that you're going to come back in. He'll be back out. He was throwing today. He'll be back out tomorrow.
02:07Keep an eye on those tendonitis issues. I know that Brian Kelly is saying all the right things. You just never know.
02:15All right, now let's head over to one of the rivals of LSU. That, of course, is the University of Alabama.
02:21They're getting ready for their season opener in just a few weeks.
02:24Kalen DeBoer in season two had this scrimmage over the weekend as well. Checked in and talked about how positive things went for the Tide.
02:31A good scrimmage for the guys. You know, I say it seems like every time, but I felt good about the back and forth.
02:39There's times the offense moved the ball, especially early up the field, and defense did a nice job anchoring down as the scrimmage went along.
02:46And we got into some situations at the end, some end-of-game stuff that I think is really important.
02:51You know, things that we're able to do much more and be comfortable repping those things.
02:58Doesn't mean it's perfect, but that's why we practiced and got some end-of-the-game situations in there at the end, too.
03:04So just kind of last-second stuff, seven seconds and last play of the game type thing.
03:10But for the most part, we're in a good spot.
03:13I think a lot of what we went through in the spring has really helped us.
03:17I was hoping it was going to be a blessing in disguise, but, you know, I think we're building some depth.
03:23And when you don't have a guy out there, you feel good not just about that replacement or who's competing for those spots,
03:28but also, you know, the guys that are, you know, now moving up the depth chart, maybe from a three to a two and so forth.
03:36So blessing in disguise, maybe.
03:39We're building depth both the spring and the fall.
03:42Finally, one of the favorites, as always, to win the national championship is the University of Oregon.
03:48And thus far, the Ducks looking good, at least in the early part of their training camp.
03:53Another team set to open up the season, Labor Day weekend.
03:55Let's check in with head coach Dan Lanning, who was very impressed with the Ducks' defense in the scrimmage on Saturday.
04:03Really solid first scrimmage.
04:05You know, walked away healthy, which is always a plus here in fall camp, being able to attack it.
04:09I think, you know, defense probably won the day today, eliminated some explosive plays, did a good job, you know, in situational defense.
04:18Overall, we're able to hit some positive kicks.
04:21Overall, protected the ball relatively well on the offensive side of the ball, but certainly a physical day and a good day for both units.
04:31I don't know that anything necessarily stood out.
04:33Like I said, I think defense won the day.
04:35They were able to get some three and outs, but, you know, operated efficiently, but we just didn't create any explosives and didn't have some of the downfield passing attack that we've had in other days in fall camp.
04:48You know, I've come in here before and told you that the offense won the day today.
04:51You know, I feel like defense won that.
04:53Meanwhile, Oregon will, of course, be very much tested this season.
04:57Going into the year, they are currently the seventh-ranked team in the brand-new Top 25 AP poll, which was just released, as I mentioned, Oregon at number seven.
05:07Number one is Texas, followed by Penn State, two, Ohio State, three, Clemson at four, Georgia, five, Notre Dame, six, Ducks, seven, Alabama, eight, LSU, nine, and the Miami Hurricanes, ten.
05:19So, let's go ahead.
