00:35what I'm looking for I'm looking for a story about something unusual I see a
00:40lot of old cars around here man what's the story with that we got some old Dodge
00:45yeah like that old Dodge yeah the 1964 Dodge Polaris so yeah I just got a new
00:53transmission installed and he wants to wire up a reverse lights that's it
00:58that's it nothing too crazy give me something tough okay okay I got a good
01:04one okay so I got a guy 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 he suspects he blew a motor in the
01:13middle of a snowstorm six seven yeah okay so it's been stuck in Price City he is
01:20now on his way here he's towing it in to have us confirm it needs a motor and
01:25what and why does he think I mean clacking making noise just shut down why
01:30does he think it needs a motor all those it okay yeah normal symptoms I'm gonna
01:35start selling the best insurance policy I believe a guy can put on a motor on
01:40these diesels is a exhaust gas temp probe and a monitor if he doesn't already have
01:47one and understand how important that monitoring that is you know we talked
01:50about that it's so available on a diesel and so you know it's so important that
01:58knowledge of that you know that a guy can back out of that yeah you know the
02:02problem is is getting too much fuel and not enough air and boy just it'll just
02:06take your exhaust temps go like that and it wipes these motors out especially a
02:10six seven yeah because that's a six seven is you know they don't have a lot of
02:14issues unless you melt them down yeah and a lot of people's questions were how
02:18do I foresee a stuck fuel injector right yeah yeah yeah have a monitor that you're
02:26actually going to monitor with maybe an alarm on or something like that and set
02:29set a parameter that if you get more than 1400 degrees for over a minute or
02:33something like that you got an issue yeah you know and your issue is maybe you
02:37just need to back out of it a little bit you know be gentle there's a way to
02:40prevent that yeah hey folks we we love to do motors I mean that's what we do but
02:45we we would rather make give you a motor back that'll last twice as long as the
02:49one you had so that's what we're talking about here let's go all right man thanks
02:54dude look at this thing man wow so I heard all we're doing is just wiring up
02:59reverse lights this thing's got the original the original upholstery in it
03:05look at that car is sweet man
03:10I can't be the original headliner but man it looks pretty dang good in here just
03:16look at that you can tell that driver's seat ain't never been touched good for
03:20him man so what are you doing on the reverse lights what do you already got set
03:25up uh-huh lights aren't working he's got the switch in there uh-huh seems like
03:30the switch isn't quite adjusted right so I pretty much just need to find if oh so
03:34yeah the lever and the little pin they're not quite coming in contact right
03:38look at this guys do you hear what's going on right now this is what a
03:41technician is supposed to do you know I'm so glad to hear this like he didn't
03:45just order a new reverse light switch so I guess you you probe the switch at the
03:50thing and says I don't have a signal then you pull to take the switch out you
03:53worked it manually and you got a signal yes wait a minute let's slow down slow
03:57down slow down you need a compliment for that okay so I'm gonna give you a
04:00fist bump all right thank you so we need to figure out if they have the
04:04right combo between right terminals see if we can make that can you can you see
04:09in the I don't know the training I can see in there but I can't obviously if the
04:13switch is in I can't see how close it actually is if you got the switch back in
04:16it right now for now so it's not dripping out okay so so he just had the
04:21training rebuilds so it tells me you know my thinking is is this in the tail
04:24shaft of the training or up in the valve body area I mean let's lift it up let me
04:28look it's pretty dang straight good for this guy make sure we note this for the
04:35customer okay look here what he's got is the body seam has come apart and the the
04:41the filler the sealer in there the caulking whatever you want to call it
04:45there's a loud moisture gap in there it'll start a rust spot right he's got this
04:50hole here you know but as you can see this is the other problem with this
04:52these are drain holes in the body I mean they're there for a purpose but look at
04:58the ledge that you got up there so you're gonna you know at least a half inch of
05:01water yeah hold water up in there and this is why this is all you know in the
05:06car if he could he could get that fixed for now so would you will you take a
05:09photo of that and then let your search rider know because this is my hot rod I
05:13want somebody telling me that because that that's nothing to fix now so it's right
05:17here next to the linkage okay yeah it's parking Paul yeah well it go in the
05:23park yes yeah the reason this is leaking is because of this aftermarket bracket
05:29that you're putting on here for this shift cable because this ain't factory
05:33man so what we need to do is make a little spacer on that and then torque it
05:37correctly this leak here yeah the whole gasket's leaking yeah oh and there's lower
05:42ball joint look at this thing do you see how dry that is if you have you
05:45documented that not quite all of it yeah I'm still kind of okay so I still need a
05:49double check with Donald if we're trying to verify which training he put in this
05:52dude this looks like the original motor I mean this thing is looks like it's been
05:56in here for a long time man look here I've only got a few threads on the dang
06:01motor mount nuts on there yeah they're barely on there yeah anyway just note all
06:07that stuff I mean I'm I don't want to be rude to the guy but all you said
06:11sometimes just nice to know yeah but I mean I'd give this car a I'd give this
06:16car I'd buy this car that's a fun little thing yeah guys kept it in pretty dang
06:23good shape man good for him he put the headers on it though yeah
06:29gotta have headers okay what are you doing dude okay we're not gonna take the
06:41pan off of it we'll pressure wash it because it's got to be with whistling
06:45clean dude this is at 5-0 yep yeah hey everybody wanted to know about that 5-0
06:52Cummins that thing spun bearings that block was junk I mean could I fix it yes
06:59I could fix it I could make billet caps then a line board and put a crank in it
07:04and I'd be fine but it's just cost prohibitive but so what we're gonna do on
07:10this this is a used engine the guy's budget was so much that we got we found a
07:15used engine did it come with an oil filter it's just been laying in the dirt
07:20look at that that's not good when we turn this bad boy over by hand real quick I
07:26mean when you get one of these like this let's just take a look at the dang
07:30thing let's see this one geez see this is the problem folks whoa man let's go
07:36ahead and get the glow plugs out of it and bore scope this thing real quick
07:41let's do this because I don't want to blow any of that dirt even down you know
07:45you got all this dirt up here man this isn't going in my machine like this so
07:49it's going to get steam cleaned at some point and it would be better to steam
07:52clean it with all the covers on it so that we're not getting shit inside the
07:56motor it's got to go in my sim test machine pristinely clean and you'll need
08:01to pull off that lower oil pan because we'll just stick it the sump in our
08:04pickup because we're gonna have to change that oil pan out anyway follow me yep
08:09okay man try not to make too big a mess here because this thing looks like it's
08:12gonna get messy Tyson you going to hide from me how you doing man

08:20drove the transit this morning so far looking good my temperatures got up in
08:27my exhaust my soot count came down it didn't say it was regenning but it was
08:31clearing it out so this is a car and I'll show you this car's got how many did you
08:36look at all the invoices on this thing that he I haven't gone through all of them
08:39holy smoke dude I flipped through a little of it they did replace a lot of parts oh my
08:43gosh so and that's I think the dealer right yeah the part looks new and just
08:50because you have a new part doesn't mean you can't have a bad part causing a
08:54problem you know so this is actually yeah so this is what so I would activate it
08:58no fuel would come out it was kind of intermittently sometimes it would work
09:02sometimes it wouldn't and he said that he'd replace this or he it looks like it's
09:06been replaced but it looks newer that's one of the most there's a lot of
09:10frustrating it's funny they call it a pump but it's more like a solenoid that
09:13lets fuel go and then I wanted to drive it one more is this not on the frame
09:18yeah just on the bottom but I wanted to drive it one more time because they said
09:23they kind of had a smell and I noticed that once that temp got up to about a
09:28thousand degrees you could start noticing the smell of you know just the
09:33exhaust getting hot and I'm wondering if that's their smell they're noticing gotcha
09:37and it's just kind of the nature of it or if there's something else that's the
09:41other thing I got to look at on it well this is so people a lot of times people
09:46ask me how do we not get comebacks condition cost correction confirm and
09:50sometimes the confirmation you got to think about that everybody out there this
09:55is a secret how you keep that practice going and guys don't don't do it
10:00mechanics don't do it you got to pay them for it that's that's the that's the
10:05point you know if you need additional confirmation time you can tell the
10:10customer that and say this is what we have to do a lot of times my guys will
10:13do these extended test drives and drive the car home at night you know you got
10:16to put the scan tool back on it you got to run all your readies maybe you have to
10:20do a regen for the guy you know make sure everything's fine and that needs to be
10:23built correctly we're professionals here you build properly for your time
10:29that that's that's the key you're the man dude oh my goodness getting closer so we
10:38got our engines on pallets our monster engine line this is one that's done and
10:45ready to be shipped and tested that's why it's on a pan this whole wall will be
10:50pallets of engines and we'll do a pallet on this wall too and I figure I can get
10:57about a hundred engines in this warehouse and I'm pretty excited about
11:02that it's it's and I got this my other machine shop I'm still working on how much
11:09is happening here it's kind of slow I can still got to get the crane in here but
11:16it's coming along let's go see the other shop see what's up I think every time I do
11:22the fun Friday the weather's wet and cold I wish mother nature finally gets us that spring
11:30business because Utah is beautiful all year round but I love spring and fall here for all the
11:38seasons here gorgeous up in the mountains now I got to find my favorite guy in the whole world one
11:43of my best workers Jason Jason the heck is he doing back here the heck are you doing here
11:52strapping don't get yeah I I just I'm finding a noise this is some hillbilly shit you got going on
11:58it worked though didn't it it's what you smash your finger one time and I think oh I feel the play in it
12:05and you're like I'm done so I check in that you join in it yeah and it feels good feels good there's
12:12no slop in it no but click that back and forth side to side the bearings junk in it was it howlin
12:22yeah it's howlin and the transfer case transfer case is howlin so oh is it yeah you should try
12:29taking that thing off the rear diff or the front trans the front transfer case yeah I had to take
12:34this off to isolate it because this is howling and clanging in the middle of the vehicle to be able
12:41to listen to the transfer case by itself itself so got that so the dealer had it but they didn't
12:48I couldn't hear the transfer case over that because when that's spinning up uh-huh it's like a stereo
12:56under a heat shield so I pulled this plug out uh-huh and it's got a bunch of metal on it but the
13:02fluid's pretty clean it's right there yeah I was just seeing if this looks like the original one and
13:08I'm looking it is it's only got 46,000 miles on this thing you got metal on it yeah on the magnet
13:14like on the fill magnet yeah they don't have a drain huh no oh geez yeah oh yeah good quality is okay
13:26so so somebody's just drained it yeah somebody probably sucked it out yeah changed it but that
13:31you wrote all that up oh yeah how much is the transfer case on one of these things oh I I don't
13:37know I don't you got to pull the engine to do it don't you I don't think so I think I can get it
13:41out every time you work on these things the whole front of clips coming off I mean you do it you know
13:45except for an oil change okay cool dude you know it's my fun friday dude you know once a week I gotta
13:54come around and make sure you're still breathing I'm still alive what are you doing glow plugs no fuel
14:01filter it's easier this way look I get so much closer to it I don't have to bend over like enlighten me what
14:10else are we doing uh oil filter housing because it was leaking yeah clean the radiator and all that
14:17stuff so that's why it's yeah gotcha the rest of it looks good your tensioners idlers yeah replace
14:23that idler tensioner was new waiting for this pulley because that one was bad you're the master
14:29on these things dude these are a piece of cake not that well that's because you've been you've done so
14:35many of them okay you still got some crap in here that just won't leave dude why what what is going
14:43on here parts the bane of my financial existence parts the access of parts ah is that what we're
14:51waiting on at yeah that one the camp something wrong with the camshaft again oh yeah we still
14:56can't get a can for that we had one but there's one sitting on the desk in there I don't know what's
15:00going on with it I hope it's the right one okay that one's pretty good if you want to look in that
15:04air box right there before I show it to you I want to I want to point out we have an old drive
15:10belt on here in fact it's quite cracked that's not the drive belt what is it that's the tube that goes
15:16on the inside of the fender well to pick up the fresh air okay well we're gonna let we're gonna go
15:22ahead and let that be a video because this is why I thought it was a drive belt look at this that
15:26looked like the back side of a drive belt with the v's on it doesn't it but yeah this is the inner
15:31fender well yeah so it's the tube that hooks to the inside uh-huh it runs up into the wheel and
15:37the fender to pick up the fresh air and it has been wrapped up it's been sucked in
15:47so it's in it's inside here here this is one of those has anybody seen that before
15:53so it's the air in the fresh air intake tube collapses because it's made out of garbage
15:59if it gets any bit of moisture moisture on it and you know hello everybody y'all are never driving your
16:05your trucks when it's raining or snowing right i guess you're not allowed to do that now because
16:12they made your your air intake let's just pull it out of there this is ridiculous
16:16okay dodge that's kind of disappointing yeah you got an you know you got enough plastic under these
16:22things what you just said let's just go to claw i know i'm being a little harsh there but come on
16:28that's okay it's pretty bad oh what do we got there joey some engine crates we got crates now more crates
16:38uh everybody i love you the business is great uh try to get me your cores back a little quicker i need more
16:45course what else is going on here today man just simming some engines and then i got to build that
16:52hemi for katie so listen my favorite braxton is not here this morning what is the deal dude i'm not
17:01sure the last couple of days i could tell he was not feeling well or something was off he'd text me a
17:07few times and say he was sick you know everything you do in your life is training you for something
17:15yeah you know you're training yourself at every moment of your life so be very careful what
17:22you're training yourself for if you're training yourself to uh just quit i'm not going to talk to
17:27my boss or anybody yeah i don't know if that's what you want to train yourself for wish you the best
17:33braxton dang it with that said though you know even training yourself i've been there i was that was me
17:37oh you know get real now you can uh you can break that habit it's it's definitely possible it's
17:43difficult to get out of it that's for danger everything on the earth including your vehicle
17:48you don't maintain them they go bad you don't maintain your relationship they go bad you don't
17:52maintain yourself your work environment yourself you know you go bad i'd love you son give me a hug
18:01i had an opportunity the other night to take my boys to jp man mr jp jordan peterson pretty great he
18:08came to salt lake city it's good to see a lot of people wanting to hear about him he he's doing a
18:12tour called wrestle with god with god wrestle with god and uh it was interesting but i'm gonna break
18:20old jp down here and i know people out there you're gonna you're gonna think i'm awfully brave or stupid
18:25and i'm both so we'll give that a shot and i teach myself taught my son this so remember how he talked
18:31about abraham and the journey abraham and the story he goes out on his own and he's got challenges and things
18:37like that you know and so i call that the exercise of your faith or your will you know you're gonna
18:43okay i'm gonna think about this i'm gonna have that thought i'm gonna go out and do it that's
18:46abraham's journey and then you're going to have a trial of that exercise there's going to be an
18:51experience and then there's going to be the pros and cons a judge of that and the judge is ultimately

19:54new exhaust guides in it got them honed and now i'm setting up my cutters doing this valve job on
20:01cool we're doing just stock uh i think he or he already had some upgraded springs in a huh so we're
20:07gonna put those back in i believe he's already had some like hardened push rods and stuff so he's already
20:13set yeah so with hemi's the only thing you've got to do is you just get rid of the solenoids so you
20:17put a block off in for the solenoids and then uh just change the lifters yeah that was the original
20:23problem with this engine is they changed the lifters but oh that's right they didn't change the
20:27solenoids that's right so they say the solenoids were like gunked up still well yeah so it doesn't
20:33allow oil pressure to the certain lifters it changes the oil pressure and that's probably what failed that
20:38all right all right i'm gonna go talk to uh dylan dude it's fun friday and i haven't even seen you
20:45look at this man like it feels like it feels like we should get some steaks and yeah i know right
20:51we need to start chopping up some steaks here wow that's the nicest that top will ever look what are

21:27good to see but this isn't it makes no sense to me so guys if you're gonna do a job right and then

21:39four c's condition cause correction confirm confirm your repairs right because if it's not it's not i
21:45mean there's not a lot of gray area in automotive repair is there dylan nope there isn't but a lot
21:51of people seem to think there is a lot easier to do it right the first time anything else going on today
