00:00Welcome to viewers who have joined us on BBC One, you are watching Open All Mics on BBC Radio Scotland, no shortage of drama as ever right across the country this afternoon, Julie Fleeting, Neil McCann and Bobby Madden alongside me in the studio we'll have a special guest joining us late in the programme, stay tuned for that, let's take you on
00:29a trip around the country, two games kicking off at three o'clock in the top flight this afternoon, let's get to West Lothian, the game between Livingston and Falkirk, there for us Callum Davison, give us the latest Callum
00:40Yeah, Livingston actually, Falkirk changed their shape, second half, actually Livingston and the team bossing it, they've had a couple of good chances second half, obviously they've had a missed penalty from your head which might come back to bite them, Falkirk haven't really offered anything, second half, here we go, there's a cross in the box, there's a chance, oh he's hit his own player
00:59Ross McGeevers headed it straight into Graham, he's got a great chance, that's probably Falkirk's best chance this half, the system hasn't really suited them, they haven't really settled into their shape and it's mostly Livingston in the second half
01:13And we were saying earlier on Callum that David Martindale, key to the success of last season and what will be key to any success to have this campaign is the very good recruitment he's had
01:23Yeah, definitely the strength and depth, I think that's the biggest thing when you get to this level, it's having the strength and championship, it's probably your start of living, it's the big thing without any injuries, when you get to the Premier League it's as well your strength and depth because you're going to get injuries, you're going to have high intensity games that you're playing, you're going to have players that can be robust enough to play, so yeah, really good recruitment by him so far
01:43It's been a real struggle Julie hasn't it for John McGlynn's side, they're not used to losing games, you know, back to back promotions, it's a big step up isn't it into the top flight of this campaign
01:53Yeah, it's although this game this afternoon is one that they, a team that they'll know really well, a ground that they'll know really well from last season, so a game where they probably had high hopes of getting all three points but they've come up against an extremely strong Livingston side, I think they've really struggled against them this afternoon and haven't really created too many clear cut opportunities either
02:16Yes indeed Kenny, it's 0-0 here in Paisley, Mudder will have been excellent in terms of the possession and keeping the ball however they've really struggled to create chances in the first half
02:36there was a chance right at the start for Mark O'Hara of St. Murren, followed up by 22 minutes a chance for Ibrahim Saeed on the angle which was a good save
02:44Flurry of corners for St. Murren and a wee half chance for Masquanisi after that
02:48In the second half there's not been a lot of chances, young Evan Mooney who came on at half time has had one there
02:54and he's just made a treble change Stephen Robertson which probably speaks to how unhappy he's been, he made two at half time as well, Richard King's come on corner, McManaman's come on, Jonah Jungus come on
03:04and he's taken off Mark O'Hara of the captain and Marcus Fraser who I'm pretty sure had a record of playing every minute last season
03:10I did say he was struggling ever so slightly with Masquanisi so it's 0-0 here and not the best version of St. Murren we've seen, Mudder will playing well, struggling to create chances
03:20Yeah Neil, you used the word passive early on in relation to St. Murren, they just don't look themselves today
03:25No they don't, young Mooney coming on is just a half chance, a little stab at it, he's better than that young kid but
03:34Yeah, they just don't seem to have their same energy levels that they showed even against Celtic, I thought they were brilliant at Celtic Park last week but
03:43Yeah, there's something missing
03:44All the way in
03:45Yeah, is that a goal?
03:46It's another for Arbroath
03:48Right, Stuart Mitchell is at Leicester handing for us this afternoon and the away side in cruise control there now
03:55Yes, now Queen's Park 0, Arbroath 3, a free kick on the right side of the penalty box, Jack Wilkie stepping up left footed, it went all the way through a crowd of bodies
04:04Callum Ferry looked unsighted at it but what a second half performance, this has been from the Smokies, it was an even first half but they've come out on fire
04:13A goal in 49 minutes from a free kick of Ross Callaghan, two minutes later Finlay Marshall making it 2-0 and now with 26 and a half minutes gone in the second half
04:22Jack Wilkie with Arbroath 3rd, Queen's Park 0, Arbroath 3
04:26Absolutely fantastic for them, just promoted of course after a great title success last campaign, very good in their opener away, sort of at home to Air United last Friday night and following on from that in big style this afternoon
04:39Let's get to the game at Somerset Park, Air United at home to Wraith Rovers and get the latest from Chick Young
04:45Yep, that's Air United 0, Wraith Rovers 1, that goal came a nice age ago, the first 40 seconds, a wonderful piece of vision from Dillon Easton
04:55It was a mistake in the Air United defence, he saw the goalkeeper off his line and he just dinked it in, maybe chipped it in from, let a wind-assisted goal
05:03The ball floating into the net to put Wraith Rovers ahead, the first half saw Air really toil into the wind and the Wraith Rovers are possession
05:13Great opportunities and Air created nothing, second half, it's been all Air United, they've got forward time after time, too much pace
05:21I think Scott Brown's going nuts at the goalkeeper David Mitchell with some of these dead ball kicks
05:25which actually have got out for a by-kick at the other end of the pitch, that'll give you an idea of the ferocity of the wind
05:31and he's wanting to spread the ball a little bit, maybe just take some pace off it and try and find some players in the middle of the park
05:37There's been no passing out from the back in terms of a short game from Air United, it's the long ball they're going for
05:43It is working up to a point but they just cannot find that equaliser, it remains here at Somerset Park
05:49Air United, nil, Wraith Rovers won, there's been a clash there, Kenny just on the far side, two players down
05:57I'm sure that pans out but it's 1-0 as I say to the visitors at the moment
06:01Thank you to Chick Young, big things expected off Den Ferman this season, Neil Lennon of course in charge
06:06there has been serious investment there and certainly Will Miller this afternoon, they're delivering
06:11Yeah, they had a really good five-minute spell just before half-time, Kenny
06:16Other than that, it's been pretty even, I would suggest, you know, Den Ferman's shading it with chances that they haven't put the ball in the back of the net
06:24but, you know, Airdrie are not out of it as yet, they really need, you know, to find something
06:29Mokri did really well dancing in the byline just a few minutes ago, great cross, he's playing as the one striker
06:37there was no one in the box to take advantage of a cross, it was just a simple tap in if a red jersey had been there
06:44so, you know, Airdrie, they're still in this game
06:47Erm, Den Ferman have kind of bossed it up to a point and obviously getting the two goals as well
06:53and they're in a great position to take, the three points, but I don't feel that it's over yet
06:58but I do feel that Den Ferman has got enough to see this game out, still 2-0 for the home side
07:04Thank you to Willi Miller there, sounds Derek Ferguson like a very decent game at Fir Hill
07:10Partick Thistle getting themselves right back into this game now
07:13Yes, Partick Thistle won, Morton won at the moment, Kenny, yeah, you're right, the first half hour of this game
07:20it was pretty poor to say at the least, but it all changed in 33 minutes
07:24Morton getting into the lead, an Eamon Brophy shot breaking to Ali Crawford, eight yards out
07:29and he stroked the ball home into the second half, five minutes into the second half
07:34the equaliser came from Partick Thistle's sub Lipsosa, brought down a soft one in my opinion
07:42but it was Logan Chalmers stepping up to calmly slot home
07:46the football in the second half, it's been far better
07:50and both teams going into the latter stages now, you know, it's up for grabs
07:54Thistle looking probably the more lightlier, getting their wide men more involved on the ball
08:00but don't count out this Morton side because they've got a lot of character, a lot of grit about them
08:05so all to play for, it's Thistle won, Morton won at the moment
08:09No Kenny, I know our 50 years of sports seeing this feels like I'm watching on a portable here
08:14the size of the screen that we're starting to see down in the corner
08:17but just a wee bit about the tactics in terms of what we're watching
08:20Motherwell away from home against St Mirren
08:22I don't think anyone would have suggested that they would have 70% of possession
08:27that's the stats that are sort of coming up now, so you can see the enjoyment of possession that they've got
08:31but I spoke already about the little kind of short one, Fadinga being the main one that comes and starts things for Motherwell
08:39and I felt that St Mirren could just adapt their tactics and instead of playing a flat three just sit somebody on him
08:45but what Motherwell are doing really well is always making sure that there's a ten for them to play through the press
08:51so it's a wee bit of a kind of twist for Stevie Robson I think to get a grip of the game
08:56it's easily adapted because he's got three centre-backs against one striker
08:59so Owen needs one of those centre-backs to step into that number ten
09:02whether it be Justice coming in there or it's Slattery that's involved
09:06but they've got no control of the game
09:08and that is backed up by the possession stats
09:10so I've said about the lack of aggression St Mirren have got
09:13but they're keeping their spare man at the back
09:15and I just wonder whether if he adapts Stevie by just stepping a centre-back in there
09:19just to nullify the ten
09:20that'll allow them then to get higher up and engage more
09:23and maybe steal more of the possession in St Mirren's final third attacking third
09:27they might get more joy in the game
09:29Julie, I think we should applaud the approach of Jens Bertolaski
09:32I know the Motherwell fans were delighted
09:34particularly that second half performance at home to Rangers last Saturday evening
09:37it's a really good watch for them now isn't it?
09:40there are no negative tactics, very open, very attacking
09:43Yeah, really different for them now
09:45and I think last week with it being against Rangers
09:48you were unsure what you were going to see
09:50I think quite often teams play a different way when they're up against the old firm
09:55I think all credit to Motherwell
09:56they came out and stuck to how they want to play this season
10:00I think they've continued to do that again this afternoon
10:04I think the most disappointing part has been in the final third for Motherwell
10:07Penalty to Falkirk, a lifeline here
10:09Right, okay, this could be a massive moment in that match
10:13just talk us through it, we've got Bobby Madden in the studio
10:15Bobby, I'll try and get a look at the replay of that one
10:17the referee's part of the spot, Callum, just talk us through the incident
10:19Yeah, it was Keelan Adams who drove inside
10:20it was McCauley-Tate who's just leaned on him
10:22it actually looks a really soft penalty
10:24it'll be interesting to see where the first contact is
10:26I thought he was falling over Callum as he got to the ball
10:28Yeah, it looks like it, McCauley-Tate looks a wee bit upset by it
10:31because he doesn't look as if he's made an attempt to play the ball
10:34it's just like when your bodies collide
10:36Yeah, the tackle looks off balance as you say Callum
10:39it is very close to the penaltarial line as well
10:41so there's a couple of things for the VAR to check
10:43just as wee away on a replay
10:45Yeah, we're not sure we're going to get a replay on here
10:47there's a problem with the feed
10:49earlier on what we did actually we got a view of the VAR incident
10:52as the match official was looking at it after he was called over
10:55so I want you to explain that as well later, Bobby
10:58but the referee right now, he'll just be getting spoken to
11:00Oh no, he's given a free kick I think
11:01So he's been told it's outside Bobby
11:03Yeah, he's been told it's his
11:04the initial contact was outside
11:06Yeah, so there's no need to go at the monitor there
11:08in fact, the decision first contact is outside the penalty area
11:11saves you that
11:12Oh, Alex Gogich
11:13Good job
11:14Good job
11:15Good job
11:16Good job, Callum
11:17Right, okay, so hold on, we'll go back to Rory in just one second
11:20just to finish up on things there in that game
11:22because there was a penalty awarded earlier on Bobby
11:24we've seen fewer penalties awarded for hand balls over the past year or so
11:28but you felt it was the correct decision
11:30Robbie Utehead's effort was saved
11:32but it was the correct decision to award Levy the penalty
11:34With the current guidelines, yes
11:35Goal!
11:36Right, goal!
11:37Progner's all in free kick
11:39Oh no, yeah, it's a goal
11:41I'm not sure, it was Ross McGeever
11:43I think it was a great ball by Muller
11:45into the box
11:46he's just flicked into the top corner
11:48Livingston 2, Falkirk 1
11:50Right, they're right back in this game now
11:52we'll just get a replay hopefully of that goal
11:54John McGlynn on the touchline there's some real hope for his side Bobby
11:57but it just shows how big that say could be
12:00that Mutehead opportunity
12:01it was the right decision to give the penalty
12:03but a poor penalty from the player
12:05Yeah, the execution of the penalty wasn't great
12:06but I think in current guidelines the penalty award was correct
12:09and given by VAR
12:10as Liam Henderson turned away to block the shot on goal
12:13East 5-0, Allo Athletic 1
12:15David Devine on 73 minutes
12:17Stranar 1, Edinburgh City 1
12:19Jack Duncan with equaliser for the away side there
12:22we're still waiting on a replay Neil
12:24for that goal for Falkirk through there
12:27but we're just waiting actually
12:28the referee's just delaying as ever all the goals
12:31of course are checked
12:32the referee's in the screen right now
12:33he's been spoken to by his colleagues in VAR HQ
12:38It looked fine, a brilliant delivery
12:40in swinger left-footed
12:41it looked like everybody was getting sucked towards the back post
12:44if it was going to go along with a clip
12:45or maybe a drive towards the back post
12:47I didn't see anything wrong
12:48I didn't see anything
12:50They're taking a while though, aren't they?
12:52They're running across the front post area
12:54and it's just a little glance into the top corner
12:56brilliant header, brilliant delivery
12:57Yeah, former colleague of us Steve McGinn just panned to him
12:59he of course is now in the Falkirk coaching team
13:01John McGlynn was asking him
13:02he's looking at the monitor there
13:03so there's maybe a wee bit of concern
13:05on that Falkirk bench
13:07we're just waiting for the final decision made
13:08Goal, let's go
13:09Right back in it
13:10Livingston 2, Falkirk 1
13:12Ross McKeever with that goal on 74 minutes
13:15stay tuned to hear from Davey Martindale
13:17they don't win that game
13:18he will be absolutely livid
13:20Livingston, they seem to be cruising
13:21as we said they had the chance
13:23from the spot
13:24New York heads penalty kick
13:25it was put, it was saved
13:27that was 2-0 at that point
13:28they would have killed the game off
13:29Falkirk now right back in this match
13:31let's get back to the other top flight game
13:33that's kicked off at 3 o'clock this afternoon
13:35that game is in Paisley
13:37Rory Loy is there for us
13:39is the game starting to open a wee bit now Rory
13:41yes it's starting to open up massively
13:43and if Agunga would lift his head
13:45then Evan Mooney is in
13:46wait till you see this Neil Julie
13:48how he doesn't see him
13:49I've no idea
13:50he could have just hooked it over his shoulder as well
13:52young kid was through
13:53yeah he was through in goal
13:54but Alex Gogic should have put St Murrn one up
13:57Conor McManaman bucking the trend in this game
13:59and putting on a fantastic delivery into the box
14:01and Gogic looked from point blank range
14:03brings the best out in warp
14:04he tipped it over
14:05from the resultant corner
14:06the second phase of play
14:07Keanu Bacchus drives into the box
14:09and it was Ward again who stopped him
14:11so St Murrn eventually starting to have a say in this game
14:15there's not been a lot in terms of goal mouth action
14:18but one which hopefully will make the sports scene highlight rules
14:21is Elliot's Watt
14:22he had a lovely little turn in the middle of the pitch
14:25fantastic piece of vision and skill
14:27so that's definitely something to pick up on
14:29if there's no goals in this game
14:31what's that reaction Rory from the home fans there
14:33they expect a certain level of performance from their team
14:36and we know what Steven Robinson teams
14:38what they're like what they deliver
14:39they're very physical
14:40they're well organised
14:41they're up and at them
14:42but it's been way off it today
14:44have the fans been showing the frustration there?
14:46they've been frustrated
14:48I don't think it's necessarily been directed to Steven Robinson
14:51or anyone in particular
14:52because you know he's done so fantastically well here
14:54you can't play at the top of your game every week
14:56but they have been so far off it today in large spades of the game
14:59that it is surprising
15:01he's rang the changes
15:03he's made the changes
15:04and they've been better in the last 10 minutes or so
15:05but I think you've got to give Motherwell credit as well
15:07for the way they've moved the ball and passed the ball
15:09but listen
15:11I still wouldn't rule out something going on and getting the winner in this game Kenny
15:14yeah let's hope there's a goal in that game
15:16what around about 7 or 8 minutes to play
15:18plus stoppage time there
15:19we've got both games coming into the studio here
15:21Neil we commented on this earlier on
15:23and Callum was saying how good it looks for you there
15:25but the difference it makes that new artificial pitch
15:28through there at Livingston
15:29because that was the big problem
15:30you felt when the games were on telly
15:31that old pitch it was so bare
15:33it was shiny it looked terrible
15:34it looks good today
15:35and I think it plays quite well as well
15:37well it looks like it
15:38I couldn't tell you from experience Kenny
15:40but it certainly looks as if it's bouncing a lot better
15:42it's moving a lot better
15:44it'll still get dry
15:45it'll still get sticky
15:46erm
15:47I think the big change
15:48if a fall cut
15:49with Brian Green coming up
15:50right another goal going in
15:52Queen's Park reply
15:53it's now Queen's Park 1
15:55Arbo 3
15:56Arbo have had a couple opportunities
15:59to extend their lead
16:00but unable to convert
16:01and it's Josh Fowler
16:03just twisting and turning inside the area
16:05unleashing the shot
16:06left footed
16:07it comes off the post
16:08Aidan McAdams beaten
16:09in the Arbo goal
16:10it's their time left
16:11Queen's Park 1
16:12Arbo 3
16:13yeah perhaps too little
16:14too late
16:15they have released a rally
16:16from the home side
16:17but Arbo, as I said
16:18very good on Friday night
16:19against Air United
16:20and they looked to be in course
16:22for three points
16:23yes Derek
16:24can you describe that pitch again to me
16:26it just looks fantastic
16:28it looks great
16:29it looks great
16:30describe it
16:31it's bare
16:32it's shiny
16:33no no no
16:34see the last pitch Derek
16:35looked terrible
16:36oh right okay
16:37I thought you were describing me and Chick Young's Barnet there
16:39you know the way you were talking
16:40and there's somebody in the studio
16:42a bit uncomfortable with that as well
16:44I can tell you sitting right to the ends
16:46a long convoluted way to get a bit of slagging in Perry
16:50isn't that a disgrace
16:52he doesn't miss an opportunity does he
16:55Derek you're talking about your game at Firhill Derek
16:58it's a
16:59it's a real challenge isn't it for Mark Wilson
17:02I think it was a surprising choice for the job
17:04they did very very well of course
17:05in the League Cup campaign
17:06got out doing
17:07last weekend in Perth
17:09important to take something this afternoon
17:11yeah
17:12and they're going all out for a
17:14for a win
17:15you can see that
17:16it was pretty shrewd
17:17of Mark to bring in Alec Ray as well
17:19you know
17:20pretty experienced in that role
17:21obviously working with Rangers
17:23recently as well
17:24so
17:25I know Alec pretty well
17:26good right hand man
17:28not
17:29listen
17:30they're giving it everything
17:31they've changed tactics a little bit
17:33they've been a little bit unlucky
17:35they're still
17:36getting themselves forward at every opportunity
17:38just need a clear
17:39real clear chance
17:40I'm going back to that Fitzpatrick one
17:42I'm still not sure whether it was a penalty
17:44or whether
17:45you know it just took maybe a
17:46a little bit too long
17:47but
17:48they've been far better this second half
17:50they'll be disappointed with first half hour
17:52because
17:53this is a big crowd here
17:54at Firhill
17:55you know
17:56and they expect to win this today
17:57so
17:58we've still got what
17:59we've got about
18:00six minutes to go
18:01so
18:02don't count them out yet Kenny
18:03no you would never count them out
18:05three games kicking off
18:06in the top flight
18:07two at three o'clock this afternoon
18:08Livingston two
18:09Falk at one
18:10St Mirren nil
18:11Motherwell nil
18:12Rangers against Dundee
18:13kicks off
18:14at 5.45
18:15full coverage of that one
18:16right here on BBC
18:17Radio Scotland
18:18on the television
18:19we'll get the team news for you
18:20and we'll hear from our pundits here
18:21just to set the scene
18:22for the game
18:23Rangers very good on Tuesday night
18:24as I said Dundee
18:25it's been a real struggle so far
18:27for Steven Press
18:29let's get back to the game
18:30between Livingston and Falkirk
18:32Callum Davidson
18:33Falkirk right back in it now
18:34with the pushing for that equaliser
18:35I wouldn't say pushing it
18:38the goal came against the run of play
18:39a little bit
18:40you know the Falkirk
18:41hadn't really done much
18:42but again it's just those little things
18:44Dave Martin has made a couple of changes
18:46he took Muirhead and Smith off
18:48who are probably the two best players
18:50and two guys who are probably about six foot five
18:52that have come on for them
18:53haven't won a header yet
18:54so he'll be going nuts at that
18:56because again they've kind of lost a bit of momentum in the game
18:58and probably for me it's come from the two guys up front
19:01who's brought on
19:02he likes to be specceding more
19:03I can see him at the sideline going nuts at them
19:05as he sometimes does Davey
19:10so they haven't really pushed too much Falkirk
19:12it's been a wee bit scrappy
19:13there's been a lot of free kicks
19:14a lot of fouls in this game
19:15yeah we're seeing pictures of John McGlenn
19:18a far more calmer character on the touchline
19:20Julie there hands on his hips there
19:22as he hopes his side can get back into it
19:23the kind of role of air so if Livingston do get pegged
19:25but of course they fought their way back in
19:27against Comara last weekend
19:28got themselves a point
19:29we're actually pushing for a winner at the end
19:31against the ten men
19:33but if he does drop any points
19:34he is going to be delivered
19:36yeah you would be
19:37just the way the game has panned out
19:38I think they had done enough
19:40early on in the game
19:41to see it out
19:42I think second half
19:44despite Falkirk changing
19:46formation
19:47I think for me Livingston still look like
19:49the side two were going to get the next goal
19:51obviously the penalty miss is a massive blow
19:53for them
19:54but all credit to Falkirk
19:56they've got themselves back into it
19:57and they're making it an exciting end to the game
19:59Edinburgh City
20:00two and up now
20:02Bradley Barnett with the goal there
20:03on 88 minutes
20:04so put yourself in a tactical situation
20:06David Martindale now
20:08Neil, how do you just short things up
20:09and get through to the end of this game?
20:11well he's gone a 4-1-4-1
20:12I think Callum
20:13hopefully he'll back that up
20:14it looks like
20:15and they said they're physical
20:17but they need to stem the flow a wee bit from Falkirk
20:20Falkirk
20:21because Arfield on the part now
20:22Aguiman
20:23Miller on the left hand side
20:24and it's Graham
20:25it's actually a focal point
20:26so they've got a real bounce
20:28and Graham
20:29for what he's good at
20:30a great goal return again
20:31from Partick last year
20:32but his actual hold up player
20:33will allow particularly Arfield, Aguiman
20:35and Miller to get in touch
20:36so they need to make sure
20:37they're screening well Kenny
20:38that one in front
20:39will need to get across
20:40it might be
20:41it might adapt it again
20:42and go a 2
20:43and a 3
20:44and it becomes a 4-5-1
20:45and just get a wee bit of control in the game
20:47Callum
20:48would you say that's
20:49yeah that's right
20:50he's made all his changes
20:51the fact he's obviously made all five subs
20:52so it's one of those
20:53for me it's the two guys
20:54you've brought up front
20:55they've got to do better for him
20:56they've got to hold it in
20:57they've got to hold it up
20:58they've got to let him go up the pitch
20:59you know they're struggling to actually get any kind of
21:01foothold in the game
21:02it's not become the back players
21:03the back players have been really good for Livingston
21:05it's the ones for the pitch
21:06they've got to do better
21:07and once they can get control of the ball
21:09then that will definitely help them
21:10see the game out
21:11Was Brian Graham a surprising signing for Falkirk
21:14for you Callum?
21:15I don't think in his goal return
21:16I think you probably look at his age
21:18and where he is in his career
21:19but I think it's
21:20you know
21:21the way Falkirk play
21:22kind of probably really suited
21:24really suited
21:25the way Falkirk play
21:27Right that was a chance for Chick Young
21:29down there at Somerset Park Chick
21:31this game has become bonkers actually
21:33because
21:34the goalkeeper David Mitchell
21:36the United goalkeeper
21:37he's taken two clubs too many
21:38he's played the ball from by kicks
21:40and he's got out the other end
21:41in the wind
21:42he's played it
21:43a dead ball
21:44he's driven it
21:45low and hard
21:46it's going for a by kick again
21:47he needs to be dinked forward a little bit
21:50Callum
21:51he needs to play a knuckleball
21:53he needs to play the wee knuckleball
21:55he needs to play the wee knuckleball
21:57so
21:58and now we've got a game
21:59he's turned into games ahead
22:00tennis with
22:01Ayr just trying to knock the ball into the box
22:03and
22:04Wraith Rovers get it out again
22:05all shape of football's just getting out the window here
22:08as they're hanging on
22:09remember Wraith
22:10leading by a goal to nil
22:11this ain't a beautiful football match anymore
22:14but in its own way
22:16it's quite entertaining
22:17what about Scott Brown
22:18is he quite entertaining on the touchline Chick
22:20we remember his comments
22:21when they lost out in the playoffs
22:22I think a lot of us weren't sure
22:23he would actually stay on as the United manager
22:25he was very unhappy with the performance
22:27last Friday night
22:28what's he like in the touchline?
22:29Emotional
22:30he's
22:31you know he's
22:32joined in the observation
22:34of David Mitchell
22:35he's trying to spread his arms
22:36he's saying
22:37try and get it wide
22:38you're putting it down the middle
22:39and it's going past everyone
22:40get a bit of width in it
22:41take some pace off it
22:42he's going bonkers
22:43the other Scott Brown
22:44who's the captain of Wraith Rovers
22:45has just been
22:46substituted
22:47so maybe it is a game
22:48oof
22:49that's what you call a tackle
22:50that's why I was
22:51never a brave football player
22:52that coming in that challenge
22:53just coming in there from
22:54from Kyle Ewer
22:56the Air United
22:57they're going for it here
22:58they've only got a few minutes left
22:59in which to try and grab an equaliser
23:01but everyone up
23:02everyone
23:03nearly everyone
23:04bar the Air United goalkeeper
23:05now insider around
23:07the Wraith Rovers' 18-yard box
23:09long throw comes in
23:10and it's pretty useless
23:11right let's get back to
23:13Fir Hill
23:14it's very much on edge there
23:15Derek Ferguson
23:16deep deep into the closing stages
23:18yeah it became a little bit scrappy
23:20the ball was like hot potato
23:21but you can just see both sides
23:23they're giving it their all
23:24but they're
23:25they're just losing
23:26a little bit of calmness
23:27but that's what
23:28probably
23:29probably you need to
23:30you know get into the last few
23:31minutes of the game
23:32but
23:33sometimes players just want it so
23:35so much so
23:36yeah just like Chick's game
23:37you know maybe not
23:38as bonkers
23:39but certainly
23:40a little bit more scrappy
23:41than they've been used to
23:42in the second half
23:43so
23:44one each
23:45time added on
23:46right let's get to
23:47East End Park
23:48Willie Miller is there
23:49for us the home side
23:50in total control
23:51Willie?
23:52yeah still 2-0 here Kenny
23:53and
23:54Dunfermline
23:55have kind of a
23:56went to the back five
23:57they're not allowing their
23:58wing backs to get forward
23:59so they're trying to just
24:00control the lead
24:01that they've
24:02that they've built up here
24:03in that five minute spell
24:04just before half time
24:05and
24:06and they're good value for it
24:07in the second half
24:08Josh Cooper's been really
24:09prominent
24:10with a couple of efforts
24:11Charlie Gilmer as well
24:12had a
24:13low drive that was
24:14well shaved
24:15and
24:16Adriel though
24:17didn't look to be out
24:18they played some nice
24:19football and they
24:20continued to play some
24:21nice football
24:22but at the same time
24:23nothing up front at all
24:24to disturb
24:25Mason Nunning goal
24:26and so
24:27it's looking very much
24:28like
24:29Dunfermline are going to
24:30see this one out
24:31pretty comfortably
24:32they're looking very strong
24:33Kenny I would say
24:34they're a big physical side
24:35they like to
24:36you know pass the ball
24:37on the ground as well
24:38so I'm not
24:39you know saying that
24:40getter mentally
24:42in terms of
24:43put Neil Lennon's
24:44building here
24:45so they look well equipped
24:46for the season ahead
24:47and they're 1-2-0 here
24:48at this moment in time
24:49it's an interesting project
24:50there isn't it Bobby
24:51because there is serious
24:52investment
24:53they've got a serious
24:54manager there
24:55cross paths with many many
24:56times with how passionate
24:57Neil Lennon is
24:58I mean in that
24:59certainly I think
25:00because they have supported
25:01and they'll expect results
25:02immediate results
25:03but as we spoke about earlier
25:04the championship is a very
25:05competitive league this season
25:06yeah certainly it's always
25:07very tough to call
25:08although St Johnson are off
25:09to an absolute fire
25:10let's get back to the game
25:12in Paisley
25:13what's happening there now
25:14Rory Loy
25:15not an awful lot
25:16to be honest with you Kenny
25:17the last ten minutes or so
25:18there's three minutes added on
25:19by the way there's two minutes
25:21of it left
25:22last ten minutes has been
25:23devoid of any real quality at all
25:25there was a good ball put into
25:26the box
25:27which Stamatoloffelos' substitute
25:28tried to get on the end of
25:29didn't quite manage to do so
25:30Kelly and Phillips had a shot
25:33from outside the box
25:34as did Keanu Bacchis
25:35but both comfortably saved by Ward
25:37Motherwell not quite as influential
25:40on the ball as they had been
25:41although Slattery is still
25:42picking up good positions
25:43but
25:44I just don't see a breakthrough
25:46with two minutes to go
25:47to be honest with you Kenny
25:48That's cool time Kenny
25:49yeah let's get it
25:50it's a two Somerset Park trip
25:52big win for Ray Throvers
25:54the goal
25:5590 plus minutes
25:56the goal
25:57because it came in that
25:58after 40 seconds
25:591-0 Ray
26:00Goal
26:01Goal for Livingston
26:03yes
26:04yes
26:05just a hopeful ball
26:06just turned down the side
26:07by Montano
26:08and been hammering Bacchili all game
26:10for not getting across
26:11and holding it up
26:12he seemed to take an eternity
26:14to get a shot off
26:15on the left hand side
26:16he stuck it in the far corner
26:173-1 Livingston
26:19you might have been hammering him Callum
26:21and I totally agree with you
26:22because
26:23Livingston were looking
26:24ragged Kenny
26:25there was no intent
26:26in terms of when they were getting
26:27control of the ball
26:28they were just turning it over
26:29and Bacchila
26:30he wasn't getting in front of the defenders
26:32he wasn't running channels
26:33he was just sort of static
26:34but I have to say
26:35what a brilliant finish this is
26:36on his left side
26:37whips it into that far corner
26:39he looks as though he took too long
26:40he was hesitating
26:41hesitating
26:42hesitating Neil
26:43and he just took his time
26:44I thought the chance had gone
26:45must have just squeezed in the far corner
26:47Livingston looked like
26:48they were actually hanging on
26:49a little bit
26:50yeah they were
26:51just the energy levels had dropped
26:52you know they
26:53couldn't get up the pitch
26:54it became a 4-5-1
26:55but this might have won them the game
26:57yeah it's an absolute beauty
26:58well time lesser hand in
26:59yes let's just quickly go to Stuart Mitchell
27:01win for the away side there Stuart
27:03a stunning second half performance
27:05from the Smokies now
27:07both are 3-1 winners
27:08right so 3-1 victors are brought away
27:11at Queen's Park
27:12we'll get to Rory in just one second
27:13just to wrap things up
27:14from the game at Livingston
27:15that's a big big goal there Julie
27:17yeah a huge goal
27:18they were up against it
27:19and although I think for me
27:20Livingston have defended their own box
27:22extremely well
27:23they've really restricted Falkirk
27:25to opportunities outside the box
27:27trying to play in and around them
27:29so although they've defended really well
27:31they have been under a bit of pressure
27:33and that's exactly what you need
27:34you need somebody to be running the channel
27:36at this stage in the game
27:38and he does that
27:39and he's finished from quite a tight angle
27:41is absolutely brilliant
27:42yeah
27:43sorry I don't think
27:44I don't think I had any choice to run
27:45the channel
27:46I don't think he wanted to
27:47but the ball was that good
27:48he had to go
27:49and got his reward for it
27:51and we just got a close up there
27:53didn't we of John McGlynn
27:54very first straight in the touchline
27:55because he would have felt
27:56he would have grabbed something out
27:58that game later on Neil
27:59yeah
28:00full time Kenny
28:01pushing for it
28:02yeah
28:03right okay let's go
28:04full time Kenny
28:05Thistle won
28:06Morton won
28:07right just give us a brief update there on things
28:08wouldn't that be a fair reflection on what you watched this afternoon on that scoreline Derek
28:12yeah I think Thistle will be a little bit disappointed
28:15more of the ball
28:16couple of more chances than Morton
28:18but Morton
28:19you've got to give them real credit
28:20real gritty
28:22determined performance
28:24and you'd expect nothing less from a Dougie Emery side
28:26so
28:27but
28:28probably a fair reflection on the
28:30on the overall play Kenny
28:31Kenny
28:32full time
28:33James and Furman to
28:34Airdrenell
28:35yeah as you were saying
28:36they're on fairly comfortable
28:37they just got their noses in front
28:38a couple of quick fire goals
28:40really towards the end of that first half
28:41and seem fairly comfortable in the end
28:43yeah very strong in the second half
28:44you know as I've been saying
28:46they're quite a big physical team
28:48but they like to play football as well
28:50they got their two goals
28:51quick fire within
28:52three minutes of each other
28:53just before half time
28:54great time
28:55to get the goals went on
28:56the second half
28:57looked really comfortable
28:58didn't look
28:59under any real pressure at all
29:01although Airdre still trying to play the
29:03the game the way
29:04Rhys McCabe likes it
29:05on the ground
29:06but they had very little up front
29:08and you know
29:09Dunfermline ran out
29:10quite comfortable winners here
29:11thanks to William
29:12it looks like Keltie Hartz has scored
29:13a late late winner
29:14away at Montrose
29:15Tees deal with that one
29:16on 95 minutes
29:18so in the midst of all that
29:19Rory Loy
29:20full time whistle
29:21has gone
29:22in Paisley
29:23you would imagine
29:25that Steven Robinson
29:26certainly would be very disappointed
29:27at his size performance today
29:29yeah he will be
29:31with a general play
29:32throughout the 90 minutes
29:33I think he'll be extremely disappointed
29:34whether he
29:35you know
29:36whether he says that
29:37in the post match interview or not
29:38I'm not quite sure
29:39he's usually pretty honest
29:40so I'd like to think he would
29:41you know
29:42say that it wasn't good enough today
29:44because it wasn't
29:45that being said
29:46you know
29:47in the second half
29:48Gogic had a chance
29:49Bacchus had a good chance
29:50Phillips had a good chance
29:51so
29:52you know
29:53it's not as though
29:54they couldn't have won the match
29:55because Motherwell is
29:56you know
29:57as good as they were in possession
29:58at times
29:59they were a bit powder puff up front
30:00and didn't really produce much
30:01at the other end
30:02all the real good chances
30:03outwith the one in the first half
30:05that fell to Saeed
30:06fell to St Mirren
30:07so
30:08you know
30:09yes he'll be disappointed
30:10with the level of performance
30:11probably feels
30:12they could have nicked it in the end
30:13one way or another
30:14so
30:15yeah
30:16I just think it was
30:17it was a disappointing spectacle
30:18overall
30:19yes I enjoyed watching Motherwell
30:20and getting out of tight situations
30:21and passing the ball up the pitch
30:22it was nice to watch
30:24but there was no real end product
30:25so
30:26it's not the most exciting game
30:27we'll see this season I'm sure
30:28and it does end 0-0
30:30Rory we've had predictions
30:31including from yourself
30:32over the past couple of weeks
30:33from our pundits
30:34and
30:35many are suggesting that
30:36Murlow could have a very good season
30:38perhaps even outsiders
30:39for a spot in that top six
30:41yeah well
30:42I know crossing and finishing
30:43will be on the agenda
30:44this week in training
30:45I would imagine
30:46because they get in good positions
30:47and you know the crossing
30:48left a lot to be desired
30:49as did the finishing at times
30:50so I think they maybe need to
30:52to work on their ruthlessness
30:53in the final third
30:54because you know it's all good
30:55and well passing the ball
30:56but there's no
30:57no reason whatsoever
30:58if they can get that bit right
30:59which is probably the hardest bit
31:00to do in fairness
31:01if they can get that bit right
31:02there's no reason
31:03based on what I've seen today
31:04why they can't be
31:05you know
31:06whether they can force themselves
31:08into the top six
31:09I'm not quite sure
31:10but they can be in and around
31:11it certainly
31:12come the 33 game mark
31:13if they can put the ball in the net
31:15as well as pass it
31:16as well as they did
31:17Neil would you say
31:18perhaps one spot available
31:19in the top six
31:20Celtic, Rangers
31:22we're expecting a very strong season
31:24from Hearts
31:25Hibs looked to have just followed on
31:26from a terrific season
31:27last campaign
31:28Aberdeen
31:29we'll get Willy's thoughts
31:30on that in a minute
31:31disappointing opener
31:32on Monday night
31:33would you expect these five
31:34to be in the top half
31:36and just one more spot available
31:38I think the first four you mentioned
31:40yes
31:41Aberdeen
31:42would need to find
31:43a goal threat for me
31:45to replace the guys
31:46that they've lost
31:47in order to be
31:48that guaranteed first spot
31:50the catalyst they won
31:51in the Scottish Cup last year
31:52should have been
31:54and I'd imagine
31:55will be
31:56huge for them
31:57in terms of what they want
31:58to achieve this season
31:59looking at Muddle
32:00I think Muddle
32:01will need to strengthen
32:02centre-back position
32:03and as Rory's pointed out
32:04there quite clearly
32:05in the forward positions
32:06if they've got aspirations
32:07of top six
32:08it's okay
32:09playing wonderful football
32:10but it's both ends
32:11two boxes
32:12where it's the most important
32:13and when you're playing
32:14with
32:15Steven O'Donnell
32:17and McGinn
32:18as your centre-backs
32:19that
32:20can't continue
32:21for the full season
32:22those guys are not young
32:23to play all of the games
32:24so they need to
32:25kind of try and
32:26find a solution there
32:27but
32:28I mean there could be
32:29a number of teams
32:30that will challenge
32:31for the top six
32:32maybe one or two positions
32:33I still think St Mirren
32:34will be stronger
32:35they've been brilliant
32:36in the last few seasons
32:37and they'll continue
32:38to be
32:39I think up there
32:40with the favourites
32:41and nipping a wee top six again
32:42What about Aberdeen, Willi?
32:43you watched them of course
32:44in their opener
32:45it was a difficult opening game
32:46of course
32:47from Monday night
32:48away at heart
32:49do you think Aberdeen
32:50have got work to do
32:51still a lot of recruitment
32:52are you there with us, Willi?
32:57Slight problem in the line there
32:59Julie what are your thoughts
33:00then on this battle
33:01for top six
33:02we always enjoy it
33:03it gets really exciting
33:04when it comes to
33:05the split
33:06do you think there are four nailed on
33:07and perhaps a couple of places
33:08or would you say Aberdeen
33:09would be in there?
33:10I think this season
33:11more than any
33:12erm
33:13it's really intriguing
33:14I think
33:15what we do have is
33:16other than
33:18I mean
33:19when you look at last season
33:20you look at Hibs
33:21they haven't started the season
33:22particularly well
33:23we've already got a Hibs side
33:24who are established
33:25or they had a
33:26David Greywood only just coming in
33:27and trying to embed
33:28these principles
33:29I think now
33:30you've got that four
33:31erm
33:32so it makes it even more difficult
33:34I think Aberdeen
33:35slightly different
33:36in that they haven't started
33:37the season so well
33:38erm
33:39but I think the
33:40excitement this year
33:41is that we do have
33:42more sides
33:43who are going to be battling it out
33:44I think it's a really difficult
33:45one to call
33:46you've also got Dundee United
33:48who last season
33:49were really strong
33:50erm
33:51in their first season
33:52back up
33:53so you would expect them to
33:54to go from strength to strength
33:55as well
33:56and a Motherwell side
33:57who have started well
33:58in terms of
33:59how they've been playing
34:00yes their end product
34:01erm
34:02this afternoon
34:03wasn't quite there
34:04and a St Mirren side as well
34:05who
34:06over the last few seasons
34:07have
34:08probably overachieved
34:09in terms of the size of the club
34:11and they will want to continue that
34:12so
34:13really difficult to call
34:14I think
34:15when we talk about
34:16the top four
34:17I think
34:18they're all in a really good space
34:19erm
34:20I think
34:21the two Edinburgh sides
34:22and the old firm
34:23I think
34:24where they are at the moment
34:25it would be really
34:26silly of you to think
34:27that they were going to drop out
34:28of the top six
34:29so for me
34:30those four
34:31plus two more
34:32and it will just depend
34:33on how things go
34:34with Aberdeen
34:35in terms of their recruitment
34:36over them
34:37from now until the end of the window
34:38yeah Willy's back with us
34:39now Willy
34:40we were just discussing
34:41the top six
34:42and one space
34:43I was suggesting
34:44perhaps up for grabs
34:45Neil's not so sure
34:46Julie's sharing the
34:47concerns around Aberdeen
34:48you watched them
34:49that tough opener
34:50at Tyne Castle
34:51on Monday night
34:52the suggestion is
34:53they need a couple of players in
34:55yeah I can understand
34:56their concern
34:57erm
34:58you know
34:59I share that concern as well
35:00I don't think the preparation
35:01for the season has been
35:02particularly spectacular
35:04it's been very low key
35:05in fact
35:06I think
35:08the toughest fixture
35:09and I include Rangers and Celtic
35:11in this
35:12in Glasgow
35:13that they could have picked
35:14would have been Harps
35:15at Tyne Castle
35:16as their opening game
35:17and they didn't seem ready for it
35:19in the first half
35:20and I don't think the squad
35:21is ready for it as yet
35:22for the season ahead
35:23and
35:24the worrying thing is
35:25that they've got
35:26European competition
35:27they're guaranteed
35:28league
35:29European league football
35:30as well
35:31so that's going to put
35:32pressure on them
35:33so I do feel that
35:34the recruitment
35:35has still got to be up to
35:36they've lost a lot of players
35:37during
35:38erm
35:39you know
35:40the close season
35:41so they're still short
35:42and in particular
35:43I don't think they're too bad
35:44at the back
35:45in terms of options
35:46that Jimmy Tallinn
35:47have
35:48have
35:49decent in midfield
35:50the question now for me
35:51tomorrow afternoon
35:52is
35:53does he stay with a 4
35:54does he go to a 5
35:55you know
35:56does he play the same
35:57formation that he played
35:58against Celtic
35:59in the cup final
36:00which was very successful
36:01or
36:02does he stick with his
36:03normal formation
36:04which is 4
36:05I think he's maybe got to mix it up a little bit
36:07he's got plenty of central defenders
36:08that he can go to that shape
36:10and I think he'll be tempted to do that
36:12but I do feel that the squad
36:14needs strengthened
36:15and I don't think that they were prepared well enough for that
36:17that Harts opening game at Tynecastle
36:20could it be
36:21sorry Kenny
36:22could it be the challenge
36:23of trying to bring in players maybe from Sweden
36:24I mean
36:25Jimmy Tallinn
36:26will know that market better than any
36:27they are halfway through their season
36:28but sometimes it can be a challenge to take
36:30players away from clubs
36:31who are competing on their own stage
36:33yeah speaking to a few Aberdeen fans
36:34there certainly seems to be a bit of frustration right now
36:36that the club is not doing enough
36:37and it's always difficult recruiting late in the day
36:40I'll go to the classifiers in just a minute Bobby
36:43but Willie's bringing up European football there
36:46it feels right now
36:47we've had a great week in Europe for the Scottish clubs
36:50we of course had the nomination for Ballon d'Or
36:52Caroline Weir is in there
36:53Scott McTominay is in there
36:55it feels that we're in a good place right now
36:56I think a lot of people say Scottish football
36:58has probably not been in this good position for a decade or so
37:00I think we need to take the positives of that
37:02if we've got Caroline and Scott both competing at that level
37:06that level of recognition
37:08we also need to think we could potentially have five clubs
37:11in the group stages of European competition
37:13full time here
37:15yes
37:16full time whistle
37:18just go to that now
37:19full time
37:21yeah full time here
37:22Livingston
37:23Livingston 3
37:24ball cut 1
37:25good performance in the end by Livingston
37:28yeah very very good
37:29we can see David Martindale celebrating with his staff there
37:32in the dugout
37:33so we'll go through the classifiers for you in just a couple of minutes
37:35just a couple of minutes
37:36just waiting on that full time score come in
37:37Callum just brought us that one there
37:39we'll try and bring you managerial reaction as well
37:42before we leave you on television around about 25 past 5
37:47but Julie and Neil just briefly on this before we do the classifiers
37:50it does feel like we're in a good place right now
37:52and I think with also domestically
37:54there are a lot of stories
37:55there are clubs in transition
37:57there are new managers
37:58there's new investment
37:59there is a lot to look forward to
38:01a lot to be excited about
38:02yeah I think the season started really well
38:05and I think when you look at how it ended last year as well
38:07I think what we want is more teams being able to compete for those top six
38:12we want more teams to be able to take points off each other
38:15and I think already we've seen
38:18yes Rangers maybe not where they want to be
38:21but they've already dropped points
38:23Celtic were pushed really hard last weekend as well
38:26so what we want is all of the teams to be able to compete
38:30and make sure that they can make a game of it
38:33when they're coming up against the old firm
38:35and hopefully points can be spread across the season
38:37talking about European football Kenny
38:39in terms of the teams that have fared
38:43it's so pleasing because you take Partizan, Belgrade and Rapid Vienna
38:48they might not be at the top of the tree right now
38:51but they've got a real European pedigree about them
38:53it's not just minnows that these sides have knocked out
38:56and so often our teams have gone out really early
38:59in European competition
39:01but those two results I think are big, big results for Scotland
39:06Rangers then doing the business during the week 3-0
39:09looks like they're going to progress to the next stage
39:12so all in all it's been a wonderful week for Scotland
39:14in European football
39:16The thing about that Neil is though
39:17last season and seasons before that
39:20they bemoan the fact that they're in European football
39:23and it affects them domestically
39:25and they don't have good league campaigns
39:27and that's where they've got to
39:29they've got to be able to match the ambition
39:32Hearts look as though they're working towards it
39:35but are Hibbs ready for it? Are Aberdeen ready for it?
39:38It's Dundee and United ready for it
39:40if they do get into the league stages of Europe
39:43so that's a big challenge for these clubs
39:45Yeah, it certainly is
39:47but we're all looking forward to the action next week
39:49full coverage right across the BBC
39:51of our teams in Europe
39:53so let's run through the classified scores for you

41:48it's time now
41:49on open our mics
41:51for a fantastic guest
41:53a legend of broadcasting
41:55is about to join us
41:56in the studio
41:57let's go
41:58I gave you the big build up
42:19you always do
42:20I always do
42:21thank you
42:22you always do
42:23the best in the business
42:24I've said that for a number of years
42:25there is no contest
42:26there at all
42:27so talk to us
42:29I've seen all the build up all week
42:31we'll all have seen it
42:32fantastic coverage
42:3350 years of sporting
42:35there's a special programme tonight
42:36tell us what's happening
42:38how are you feeling about it?
42:39I'm actually very excited
42:40about it Kenny
42:41should I just point out
42:42that I haven't done all 50 years
42:44I mean I did 32
42:45which wasn't a bad shift
42:46and thinking
42:47well that was ok
42:48I loved that
42:49and now to be back in again
42:50and to be meeting some old pals
42:51that I haven't seen for a while
42:53now they see Jock Brown
42:54and Archie
42:55and Gordon Smith
42:56so yeah
42:57we're going to be talking
42:58about football tonight
42:59just as we've always done
43:00sitting and talking football
43:01with your pals
43:02it's fantastic
43:03it's the best job
43:04is there one moment Doogie
43:06throughout all these years
43:07that stands out for you?
43:08ah goodness
43:09one moment
43:10one game
43:11one programme
43:12no there probably isn't one
43:14I mean the best cup final
43:15I always say
43:16was Morrowald and D United
43:17in 1991
43:18which finished 4-3
43:19that was a great game
43:20Stevie Kirk's last minute
43:21winning header
43:22so that was special
43:23that was special
43:24but I mean you think
43:25the number of World Cups
43:26that I got to with Scotland
43:27and the days when we qualified
43:28for every World Cup
43:29those were special
43:30the emergence of the new firm
43:32was hugely exciting obviously
43:34and particularly
43:35I always say the kind of
43:3680s, 90s was a golden age of
43:38not just Scottish football
43:39but Scottish sport
43:40because you had the old firm emerging
43:42you had Graeme Souness
43:43arriving at Ibrox
43:44you had Celtic winning the double
43:45in their centenary year
43:46plus you had all the fantastic golf we had
43:50fantastic
43:51just every sport
43:53Stephen Henry emerging
43:54Alan Wells winning Olympic gold
43:56Scotland winning two rugby grand slams
43:58and luckily for me
43:59and for all of us who worked on it
44:01the BBC had all of that
44:03and we worked on it
44:04so how fortunate was I
44:06and then to be asked back
44:07all these years later
44:08to do it again for one night only
44:10fantastic
44:11it's a treat for the viewers to me
44:12it's such an iconic programme
44:13we're all privileged to be part of it
44:15aren't we?
44:16yeah absolutely
44:17I'm actually a bit starstruck
44:19oh stop it
44:20I had to say that
44:21I love what you do
44:23at the telly
44:24yeah yeah
44:25I remember growing up with
44:26all the things that
44:27you're talking about
44:28Julie you're embarrassing me
44:29but you're loving it
44:31you're loving it
44:32I love it
44:33tell me more
44:34no I mean it's such a fantastic time
44:36to be a part of the BBC
44:38and tonight's going to be
44:39extra special
44:40and yeah I just can't wait
44:41to see it all unfold
44:42and we're just chatting
44:44with Bobby Madden there
44:45Dougie about
44:46we seem to be
44:47you've seen all the highs and lows
44:48but right now
44:49I think we're in quite a good place
44:50they're off the back
44:51of a really good European campaign
44:52we're talking about
44:53Caroline Weir and Scott McTominay
44:55the Ballon d'Or nominees
44:56it's a good time to be involved
44:58in Scottish football
44:59it is I mean the start of every season
45:01is always exciting
45:02because every supporter
45:03of every club thinks
45:04this is going to be our season
45:05and very few of them are right
45:06but there are signs I think
45:08that this year we are going to see
45:10quite special things happening
45:11we're all excited about
45:13Hearts obviously
45:14Hibs are going to be very good again
45:15who knows what will happen
45:16at Aberdeen
45:17but they should be challenging
45:18and seeing Falkirk and Livingstone
45:20coming up
45:21and yeah no it's it's
45:22I think it's exciting times
45:23and long may it continue
45:24the European results in midweek were great
45:26I think back to one story you told me before
45:29France 98
45:30it's all about prep isn't it in this job
45:32you do your best
45:33but it's live radio
45:34it's live television
45:35things happen all the time
45:37and you were presented with a situation
45:39where you had to commentate on the opening ceremony
45:42with no warning
45:43no absolutely
45:44we had a technical problem
45:47and the opening ceremony had just begun
45:49in the Stade de France
45:50I'm up there looking forward to Scotland against Brazil
45:53opening match of the World Cup
45:55and Barry Davis is doing the commentary
45:57on the opening ceremony of the World Cup
45:59but BBC Scotland for whatever technical reason
46:02didn't have Barry's commentary
46:04the pictures were there but silence
46:05and then I get this panic-stricken voice
46:07a panic-stricken voice
46:08where Dougie you'll have to commentate on the opening ceremony
46:11I had no idea
46:13you know it's all this French symbolism
46:15and wonderful things going on
46:17and luckily luckily
46:18on the way out of the media centre
46:20going up to the commentary position
46:22there was a big thick pad of the running order
46:25for the opening ceremony
46:27and I walked past I think
46:28I'll not need that
46:29don't need that
46:30and then for some reason I thought
46:31I'll take it anyway
46:32and fortunately it was in the bag at my feet
46:34and scraping
46:35where are we
46:36where are we
46:37oh the school kids are coming on
46:38this must be
46:39and I did a very very poor commentary
46:41on the opening ceremony
46:42you know I doubt that
46:43because I was about to say Dougie
46:44that I bet the audience at home
46:45had no idea that you had no prep time
46:47oh I don't know about that
46:48it certainly wasn't as polished
46:50as Barry would have done
46:51he'd have been at the rehearsal
46:52the night before
46:53and done nothing else
46:54but opening ceremony
46:55but yeah
46:56but then again that's what we do
46:57as you said
46:58it's live TV
46:59it's live radio
47:00that's the buzz
47:01that's what's it
47:02if you're not good enough to play
47:03or referee Bobby
47:04yeah
47:05this is the next best thing
47:06we get to
47:07live it vicariously almost
47:09don't you?
47:10someone wants to speak to you
47:11he's out at a game for us today
47:12you'll work with this man for
47:1340 years I'm guessing Chick
47:17I never said I wanted to speak to him
47:19you said you have to speak to him
47:22and you know
47:23it was a nice Kenny for you to say that
47:25Dougie Donald
47:26Dougie Donald
47:27he's the greatest at this business
47:28he certainly is in that studio
47:30at the moment let me tell you
47:35yeah Dougie
47:36Dougie and I go back a long long way of course
47:38yeah and I know in Dougie's book
47:41he regaled us with a story of a night
47:44in the World Cup in 1990 in Italy
47:46when him and I were out with
47:48oh dear
47:49a couple of players for a night cap or two
47:51are we not naming the players?
47:53you put them in your boot
47:55you're a bit weird
47:56no we had a night out with
47:58Murdo McLeod and Craig Levine wasn't it?
48:01check
48:02yeah
48:03yes yes
48:04we went out for a nice meal
48:05and a few glasses of wine
48:06for chicken eye anyway
48:07the boys weren't drinking
48:08and then we were
48:09we couldn't get back to the team hotel in Rapallo
48:12and of course there's security everywhere
48:14and we were
48:15no it's two Scotland players
48:16they weren't for letting the boys in
48:18imagine what Craig Brown and Andy Roxburgh
48:20were thinking at this point
48:2110-15 minutes late
48:23trying to get back into the hotel
48:24so yeah great memories like that
48:26great nights
48:27great laughs
48:28but the point was
48:29that the next morning
48:30the tabloids were full of
48:31Scotland players breaking the curfew
48:33Mo Johnson and Jim Bett
48:35I think it was
48:36yep
48:37and we'd had Craig in Murdo
48:38about an hour after the other two had got home
48:41that's right
48:42and they
48:43they got away with it
48:44not that we got
48:45I mean we weren't the bad influence obviously
48:47laughs
48:48yeah that'll surprise everybody I'm sure
48:50fantastic memories
48:51fantastic memories
48:52Duggy
48:53Duggy
48:54Eiffel Tower
48:55Ulrika Johnson
48:56do you remember that one?
48:57laughs
48:58no listen
48:59I'm only
49:00listen I was there
49:01it was the both of us
49:02Ulrika Johnson
49:03me and Duggy
49:04had the pleasure of
49:05Ulrika Johnson up the Eiffel Tower
49:06and she had a Scotland top on
49:08laughs
49:09I think you might want to rephrase that
49:11will I
49:12laughs
49:13as we said live radio
49:14laughs
49:15that is all
49:16that is all your minds
49:17that is all in your minds
49:19as it did say the pleasure of her company
49:21yeah I think in fact
49:22talking of books
49:23I'm so pleased for getting a plug in for my book
49:25but didn't you do the book and use the photograph will I
49:28of you and me and Ulrika
49:29I think it did yes yes we did
49:30did you ever get anything paid to you for that
49:32no
49:33did you get any royalties no
49:34I'm sure I said to the publisher to give you something
49:37laughs
49:38yeah I'm sure you did
49:39it was Macaulay wasn't it the show that was on and we were up doing a little press thing
49:43that's right I think
49:44Ulrika was a guest on Fred and Ali's show
49:47and it was a night of all the lines as well
49:50and it didn't actually work out too well for Ulrika
49:53later on if you turn your mind back to it
49:55but she was
49:56she was very nice she had a lovely personality
49:59she was
50:00absolutely
50:01you know about lovely personalities don't you
50:03we've got plenty of different personalities in this programme

51:54and Danilo
51:55as for Dundee
51:57a couple of changes
51:58for them
51:59from their last outing
52:00which was the 2-1 defeat
52:01at home

52:03last weekend
52:04there's a
52:05a debut

52:12he comes in
52:13along with the
52:14the more experienced
52:16Dre Wright
52:17with Ingram and Aqua
52:18both dropping to the bench
52:20but it still looks like
52:21to be a 3-5-2 formation
52:23for Steven Presley
52:24up against one of his former sides
52:26here this afternoon
52:28it's John McCracken in goal
52:29with Ryan Astley

53:07Thank you to Alistair Lamont
53:08so that commentary
53:09will be on BBC Radio Scotland
53:10and it kicks off
53:11at 5.45pm
53:12we'll hear from both managers
53:13a little later
53:14we'll get the thoughts
53:15of our pundits
53:16who are at that game tonight
53:17that one is a tea time kick off
53:19as I said
53:20two games kicked off
53:21this afternoon
53:22in the top flight
53:23we brought you the full time
53:24reports earlier on
53:25it was a really dramatic game
53:26you'd have to say
53:27between Livingston
53:28and Falkett
53:29Livy running out
53:303-1 victors there
53:32St Mirren 0
53:33Motherwell 0
53:34in Paisley
53:35this afternoon
53:36we'll get the final thoughts
53:37from Rory Loy in just a minute
53:38first of all
53:39let's hear from the Motherwell
53:40manager Jens Bertel Ascu
53:42he's been speaking with Brian McLaughlin
53:56right so I apologise
54:03we've got a slight problem
54:05with the audio there
54:06we certainly can't hear it on radio
54:08I'm not sure if it's going out
54:09on television or not
54:10but a technical issue
54:11there have been a few
54:12as we're speaking to Doogie
54:13about this afternoon
54:14it happens on live radio
54:15it's been happening all afternoon
54:16but Jens Bertel Ascu
54:17Rory Loy is at the game in Paisley
54:20for us Rory
54:21we'll hear what he had to say
54:22we're not sure we'll get it on TV now
54:24we'll certainly hear it later on BBC
54:26Radio Scotland
54:27Motherwell
54:28a lot of possession
54:29but no real cutting edge
54:31St Mirren a bit off it today
54:33yes indeed
54:34I could hear the start of that interview
54:36believe it or not Kenny
54:37so he started by saying
54:38that they were brilliant
54:39so that's all I got from it
54:41I would say they were brilliant
54:42in the first two thirds of the pitch
54:43in the last third of the pitch
54:45they lacked a bit of punch
54:46Masvinisi actually didn't play
54:48particularly badly
54:49but I don't
54:50you know I played up front myself
54:51for a number of years
54:53and there's nothing worse than
54:54you know
54:55I'd rather miss a chance
54:56than have no chances whatsoever
54:58so he'll have been frustrated
54:59with that side of things
55:00so yeah
55:01Motherwell were brilliant
55:02in the first two thirds
55:03they passed the ball well
55:04a different way
55:05and a different style of playing
55:06to what the Motherwell fans
55:07will be used to
55:08in terms of St Mirren
55:09yep they were off it today
55:10Motherwell maybe caught them out
55:11with the way they played
55:12but they didn't really commit
55:13to trying to
55:14you know
55:15catch Motherwell out
55:16they didn't really commit
55:17to a press
55:18and they were just kind of
55:19you know
55:20Neil McCann used the word passive
55:21it's a terrific way of describing
55:22how St Mirren were today
55:23and I don't think you could really
55:24during Steven Robinson's tenure
55:25describe them ever as passive
55:27so listen
55:28overall
55:29St Mirren probably had the
55:30better chances as well
55:31so
55:33I know
55:34Asku will probably
55:35deny that
55:36a draw was a fair result
55:37but
55:38listen
55:39Motherwell had loads of the ball
55:40no real chances created
55:42St Mirren had
55:43a poor game on the day
55:44created a few chances
55:450-0 for me
55:46is probably a good story
55:47of the game
55:48Yeah
55:4967% possession
55:50for the away side
55:51there
55:52but no goals
55:53in that game
55:54no shortage of goals
55:55through in West Lothian
55:56no shortage of talking points
55:57either
55:58Callum Davison
55:59it was a decent game
56:00through there
56:01and what a fantastic result
56:02for Davey Martindale
56:03Yeah
56:04thoroughly entertaining game
56:05here today
56:06I thought Falkirk
56:07weren't quite at the races
56:08we normally see them
56:09attacking down the sides
56:10balls over the top
56:11weren't quite there
56:12and that's probably all down
56:13to Davey and his team
56:14I thought
56:15first 20 minutes
56:16I thought Falkirk
56:17were the better team
56:18and then
56:19Levy scored out the blue
56:20and then after that
56:21I think the work rate
56:22from the Falkirk
56:23sorry the Livingstone players
56:24was outstanding
56:25he had to make five changes
56:26I think
56:27two or three
56:28due to injury
56:29but overall
56:30Ryan McGowan
56:31Macaulay Tate
56:32they were outstanding
56:33today
56:34and a thoroughly deserved
56:35victory
56:36and it's a great victory
56:37for them
56:38at the start of the season
56:39it's a tough game
56:40the two newly promoted teams
56:41coming up
56:42and it's a wee challenge
56:43to see where they are
56:44they will go home
56:45really happy tonight
56:46John will be a wee bit
56:47frustrated with this team
56:48they weren't quite at the races
56:49but they'll bounce back
56:50they showed against Dungeonite
56:52they're capable
56:53and they'll just need to
56:54sort of dust themselves down
56:55and move on to the next game
56:56thank you to Callum Davison
56:58four points Neil
56:59from their opening two games
57:00for Livingstone
57:01as Callum said
57:02Davey Martindale will be delighted
57:03we spoke a bit about Falkirk
57:04and the style of play
57:05that John McGlynn has got
57:06I know he changed it
57:07during the game today
57:08do you think
57:09there's an approach
57:10you'll perhaps have to look at
57:11certainly away from home
57:12I think his decisions
57:17will be dictated to
57:19by his squad
57:20and who's available
57:21I honestly don't see John changing
57:23he's come through
57:24League One
57:25he's come through Championship
57:26with a swagger
57:27and he understands
57:29he's not going to disrespect
57:30the league
57:31but if you take out
57:32the top teams
57:33I think if you
57:35if you sat down with John
57:36and said right
57:37can we play the way
57:38we've played for the last couple
57:39of seasons
57:40against the majority
57:41of the rest
57:42I think his answer will be
57:43yes
57:44you know we can do
57:45and why should he change
57:46what's got him there
57:47I think maybe at times
57:48a little bit more pragmatic
57:50but again that might be dictated to
57:53by who he's got available
57:55because it might not be allowed
57:56to play a certain way
57:57he changed shape today
57:58to try and get back in the game
57:59as you should do as a coach
58:00if something's not working
58:01hammering away at the same nail
58:03that's not going in
58:04might not just give you anything
58:06in the match
58:07he did change it
58:08he got a reaction
58:09brought Brian Graham on
58:10Aggie Mann up top
58:12Calvin Miller
58:13they got a really good goal
58:14from a free kick
58:15which we discussed
58:16was it going to be a penalty
58:17and then they were the team
58:18that are putting Livingston
58:19under pressure
58:20so I think
58:21he'll still retain
58:22the element of
58:23wanting to be attacking
58:25and wanting to play
58:26in a certain style of football
58:27I can never see John McGlynn
58:28setting up a side
58:30like Falkirk
58:31to be 10-9 behind the ball
58:33it's been a great story
58:34of course
58:35over the past couple of seasons
58:36another busy day
58:37across Scottish football
58:38the conversation continues
58:39on BBC Radio Scotland
58:40full coverage to come
58:41of Rangers against
58:43indeed
58:44but it's time to say goodbye
58:45to viewers who've been with us
58:46on BBC One Scotland
58:47thank you for your company
58:48we'll see you soon
